Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 12PM from the Gum Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Timmonsville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Croghan, SC. She was born on June 10, 1932 in Chesterfield, SC. Naomi was the daughter of the late Floyd Chapman and Corine Nivens Chapman. She was married to the late Henry Lane Burch. Survivors: two daughters, Debra D. Davis (Dwayne), of the home and Ann M. Bivens (Michael), Monroe, NC; five grandchildren; Nikki Lane Davis, Kevin Dwayne Davis, both of the home, Tierra D. Bivens, J. Elijah Bivens and Onii E. Bivens, Monroe, NC; a great grandson, Kaden Chancelor Davis, Pageland, SC; three brothers, John Chapman (Mary), Cheraw, SC, Jerry Chapman (Evelyn), Tampa, FL and Parnel Chapman (Nezzie), Cheraw, SC; two sisters, Irene Wright, Wadesboro NC and Ella Chapman, Cheraw, SC. Flemming Funerals- Chesterfield is in charge. .
Mabel Baber Dowdy
CHERAW – Mabel Baber Dowdy died peacefully at home on December 3, 2015. Born in Appomattox, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James and Bertha Adcock Baber and was one of 14 children. She was the widow of Jessie Dowdy. Mrs. Dowdy worked for Burlington Industries for over 20 years while raising 4 children. In her earlier years, she also enjoyed dancing, singing and playing music.
In her later years, she enjoyed cooking, watching classic movies, and spending time with her family. Two of her specialties, chicken and dumplings and Vegetable Soup, have been enjoyed by many over the years.
She is survived by her children, Cathy (Mike) Chapman of Cheraw, SC, Danny (Sandy) Dowdy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Terrell Dowdy of LA, grandchildren, Dana (Corey) Wolf of Charleston, SC, Kelly (Ken) Furtick of Fort Irwin, CA, Michael (Alison) Chapman of Columbia, SC, Leigh, Tara, and Michael Dowdy. She was also the “adopted” grandma of Alex, John, and Sara Grace O’Neal of Cheraw. Great Grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, and Owen Furtick, Carson, Delaney, and Hadley Wolf, sisters, Catherine Brown of Lynchburg, VA, Helen Bates of Lynchburg, VA, Thelma Campbell of Lynchburg, VA, Tootsie Stoker of Lake Winnemutka, NV, Hazel Hummel of Cary, IL also, multiple nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dowdy was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above and a daughter, Cindy Dowdy, also several brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, December 7, 2015 in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.
Archie D. Gore
CHERAW - Archie D. Gore, 63, died Tuesday, December 01, 2015. Born in Mullins, SC, he was a son of the late Beatrice and Ned Gore. Mr. Gore enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and a son Richard Gore.
He is survived by his wife, Doris K. Gore, daughter, Cynthia Rivers (Tommy) of Ruby, SC, sisters, Louise of Columbia, SC and Shirley of Cheraw, SC, and two grandsons, William Gore and Landon Rivers.
The family received friends at their home, 5349 Brock’s Mill Road, Cheraw, SC.

Thelma Primus Huggins
CHERAW – Thelma Primus Huggins, 96, of Cheraw, SC died on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 2PM from the Mt. Mary Baptist Church, Chesterfield, SC. Burial followed in the Foundry Hill Cemetery, Cheraw, SC. She was born on April 18, 1919 in Kelly Town, of Darlington County, SC. Thelma was the daughter of the late Ephraim and Easter Bessie Thomas Primus. She was married to the late Elder Mack Huggins, Sr. Over the years, she was employed with Kimbrell Furniture Store in Cheraw, SC and owned several businesses with her husband in the Cheraw area: Mack’s Café, a taxi service and a seafood market. Survivors: a daughter, Ernestine Black Blackwell, Chesterfield, SC; a stepson, Roosevelt Bradley (Alexzine), Cheraw, SC; three grandchildren, Tracye Snow (Travis), Woodbridge, VA, Jerry William Perry Blackwell, Jr. (Loretta), Cheraw, SC and Jeffrey A. Blackwell, Chesterfield, SC; two great grandchildren, Trarae Emanuel, Washington, DC and R.J. Emanuel, Woodbridge, VA; two great great grandsons, Cameron Keys and D.J. Keys, both of Washington, DC; a sister, Bessie Elleby, Charlotte, NC. Flemming Funerals-Cheraw was in charge. .
Farish Watlington Justice
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Farish Watlington Justice, widow of John William Justice, Jr., passed away peacefully on November 24th, 2015 at Penick Village in Southern Pines, N.C. at the age of 90. She was born and raised in Caswell County, N.C. and graduated from Cobb Memorial High School where she was voted "Best All Around Girl" and was captain of the basketball team. Farish graduated from Peace College in Raleigh, N.C. in 1945 and worked in the State Capitol as a secretary for Thad Eure, the Secretary of State. She and John were married in 1951 and raised their two children, Anne and Johnny, in Camden and Cheraw, S.C. and at their vacation home on Pawley's Island, S.C. They then moved to Siler City, N.C. and back to Cheraw before retiring to Penick Village in 2002.
Farish was active in Grace Episcopal Church in Camden, St. David's Episcopal Church in Cheraw and Siler City United Methodist Church. She was an avid tennis and bridge player and pianist and a lifelong University of North Carolina basketball fan. She was known to unplug her phone when Tarheel basketball games and professional tennis tournaments were being televised.
She is survived by her two children, Anne Farish Justice of Georgetown, S.C. and John William Justice, III (Donna) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Sea Island, GA, two grandsons, John William Justice, IV (Barbara) and Samford Watlington Justice all of Savannah, GA, two sisters, Mary Lily Watlington of Ruffin, N.C. and Carolyn Watlington Fagan of Laurens, S.C., two nieces, Betsey Reed Mayhew (Jack) of West Tisbury, MA and Kay Reed Carey (Lee) of Virginia Beach, VA and one nephew, Roy Otho Fagan (Mary) of Reidsville, N.C. and five great-nieces.
A small family graveside service will be held at Old St. David's Episcopal Church in Cheraw, S.C. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be made to the Old St. David's Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 1196, Cheraw, S.C. 29520.

Arlevia Harrell Lee
CHERAW – Mrs. Arlevia Harrell Lee, daughter of the late Elijah Dixon and Mary Harrell was born on August 2, 1940 in Chesterfield, SC. She departed this life and entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. The funeral service was held on October 16, 2015 at Pee Dee Union Baptist Church.
Arlevia accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Lilly Grove Holiness Church where she faithfully served as pastor aide president. She was a graduate of Long High School in 1962.
Arlevia had a love for cooking especially for her family. She held various jobs to include a cook at Long Jr. High School and Cheraw High School for many years until she began experiencing health issues.
She was a loving and devoted mother and wife. In 1964 she was united in holy matrimony to Willie Edward Lee and to this union God blessed them with three children.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 51 years Willie Edward Lee Sr. of the home; two devoted sons: Ronald Lee and Willie Lee Jr. of Cheraw, SC; one beloved daughter, Latisah (Bobby) Melton of Cheraw, SC; one sister, Eva Mae Harrell of New Haven, Connecticut; three sister-in-laws: Louise Bennett of Baltimore, Maryland, Irene Bloomfield and Ineze Hancock of Cheraw, SC; a special cousin Maudie Sue Prince of Cheraw, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Grooms Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
Hubert Ray ‘Ray-Ray’ Melton
CHERAW – Hubert Ray “Ray-Ray” Melton, 45, died Monday, November 30, 2015. Born in High Point, NC, he was a son of and known as “Sunshine” to the late Patricia and Hubert Melton. He was a very proud employee of American Mechanical & Piping (AMP) and loved his job as a welder/fabricator. Mr. Melton was “THE Clemson Fan.” He enjoyed doing yard work, and spending time with his grandchildren, great nephew Aiden and his Boxer bulldog, China.
Mr. Melton is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betsy JoAnne Melton, sons, Cody Melton (Rylee), Aaron Roscoe (Shareena), of Cheraw and Nicholas Melton (Lacey) of Patrick, a brother, James Edward Melton (Crystal) of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Wendy Walters (Greg) of Cheraw, SC, his mother-in-law, Janet Rivers of Cheraw, SC, three grandchildren, one nephew, two nieces, and 1 great nephew.
The family received friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.
A funeral was held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.

CHERAW – Mrs. Chasity Griggs Robbins, age 41, died Thursday, November 26, 2015 at her home.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 30, 2015 at House of Praise Church. Visitation was from12:30 – 2:00 PM, Monday, November 30, 2015 prior to the service at House of Praise Church.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Robbins was born June 26, 1974 in Cheraw, SC a daughter of Tommy Louie Griggs and Delores Kay Presnell Griggs. She was a former floral designer with Melton’s Florist, a true collector, and Elvis Pressley fan.
Survivors include HUSBAND: Adam Robbins of the home; SON: Jonathan “John Boy” Lambert of the home; DAUGHTER: Katie “Bookie” (Jamie Boan) Lambert of the home;
MOTHER: Kay (Timothy) Driggers of Cheraw, SC; FATHER: Tommy (Sharron) Griggs of Corsicana, TX; 2 BROTHERS: Arron (Misty) Cottongame of Corsicana, TX and Tommy (Shannon) Griggs, II of Corsicana, TX; 3 SISTERS: Nicole (Emily) Griggs of Darlington, SC, Aline (Brian) Paul of Cheraw, SC and Emily Griggs of Corsicana, TX

CHESTERFIELD – Zelma Denise Smith, 53, died on Monday, November 30, 2015. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 2PM from the Word of Life Fellowship Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, Cheraw, SC. She was born on May 21, 1962 in Chesterfield, SC. Zelma was daughter of the late Benjamin Townsend and Justine Lewis Townsend Ashe. She attended the Chesterfield County, South Carolina public school system. Her employment over the years included Kingston Resorts in Myrtle Beach, SC and the Chesterfield Convalescent Center, Cheraw, SC. Survivors: her husband, Jerry Smith; a daughter, Latonya Townsend-Wilson (Christopher), Cheraw, SC; three grandchildren, Kelvin Evans, Christopher Wilson, Jr. and Christian Wilson all of Cheraw, SC; a brother, Benjamin Townsend, Chesterfield, SC; four sisters, Patricia Marshall (Dwight), Bennie Sene Townsend, both of Cheraw, SC, Taloria M. Johnson, Bennettsville, SC and Cari Hughes (Herbie), Cheraw, SC. Flemming Funerals-Cheraw was in charge.

RUBY – Mr. Ricky Dean Davis, age 57, died Saturday, April 2, 2016.
A funeral service was held at 4:00 P.M. Monday, April 4, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 3:00 – 4:00 P.M., Monday, April 4, 2016 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis was born December, 13, 1958 in Ruby, SC, a son of Grace Oliver Davis Dees and the late James Eleba Davis. He was a former textile worker and an avid outdoorsman. Ricky enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. In addition to his father, Ricky was also preceded in death by a daughter, Holley and by a sister, Linda Penman

She was born on June 15, 1939 to the late William Clyburn and Lillian Blakeney Clyburn in Chesterfield County, SC. Survivors: husband, James Francois, Sr.; two sons, Joseph Francois, Washington, DC and James Francois, Jr. (Constance), Simpsonville, SC; a daughter, Jennifer Francois, Pageland, SC; two sisters, Lillian Louallen, Pageland, SC and Betty Lockhart, Pageland, SC and two grandchildren. SOCIETY HILL – Sadie H. Freeman, 89, died Thursday, April 07, 2016. Born in Hartsville, SC she was a daughter of the late Richard Hayward and Lula Reynolds Hainey. She was a widow of Grover C. Freeman. She was a lifetime member of Society Hill Church of God.
She is survived by her sons, James E. (Emma Jean) Freeman of Great Falls, SC, George (Joyce) Freeman of Society Hill, SC, a daughter, Mary (William) Dixon of Society Hill, SC, a brother, Jim O’Neal of San Diego, CA, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also a son Charles O. Freeman, Sr., brothers, Gus Haney, Richard Haney, William O’Neal, Leroy Reynolds, sisters, Mary L. Dixon and Cremus Haney, and grandson, Scott Freeman.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Society Hill Church of God. Burial will be in the church cemetery

CHERAW - Henry V. Griggs, 88, died Monday, April 4, 2016. Born in Chesterfield, SC he was a son of the late Henry V. Griggs Sr. and Ola Purdue Griggs. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of American Legion Post 23. He enjoyed fishing, camping and NASCAR racing.
Surviving is his wife Dixie L Griggs of Cheraw, SC, a son, Frank (Pat) Wiseman of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Susan (B.J.) Leviner of Cheraw, SC, a brother, Grady (Alise) Griggs of Chesterfield, SC, a sister, Ruth Crowley of Chesterfield, SC, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
