MT. CROGHAN – Mr. Dennis Matthew Penny II. Age 40, died Thursday, March 17, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC.

Visitation was from 5:00 – 6:00 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2016, prior to the service at the Funeral Home

A funeral service, visitation and interment were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Community Funeral Home, Beulaville, NC, with Visitation 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery, Beulaville NC.
Mr. Penny was born May 14, 1975, in Magnolia, NC, a son of Dennis Matthew Penny, Sr. and the late Linda Denise Huggins Penny. He was a graduate of North Central Institute and was a former owner of an Auto Repair Shop and worked in the manufacturing of Medivac helicopters. Dennis was a US Army Veteran and an Apache helicopter engineer. He enjoyed scuba diving and sky diving.

Survivors include WIFE: Chasity Oliver Penny of Mt. Croghan, SC; 4 Children: Dennis Matthew Penny III, Grace Elizabeth Penny, and Ebren and Oliver Penny all of Mt. Croghan, SC; Father: Dennis Matthew Penny, Sr. of Georgia; and 3 Brothers: Adam (Jesica) Penny of Ruby, SC, Nick Penny of Chesterfield, SC, and Brandon Hatcher.

John Willie Peterkin Jr.

HARTSVILLE – John Willie Peterkin, Jr., 45, of Hartsville, SC died on Thursday, March 10, 2016. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 2PM from the Bethesda Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. He was born in Darlington, SC on August 8, 1970 to Katherine Graham Peterkin and the late John Willie Peterkin, Sr. Survivors: his wife, Lynette D. Peterkin; a daughter, Krishaunda Grant, Florence, SC; a step-daughter, Raquel Wilson, Hartsville, SC; two sons, DeOnta Peterkin, Hartsville, SC and Jordan Harrison, Mebane, NC; a step son, Antwan Wilson, Statesville, NC; his mother and step-father, Katherine and Archie Peterson, Hartsville, SC; two brothers, Michael Peterkin (Teresa), Chesterfield, SC and Timothy Peterkin, Charlotte, NC; a sister, Janice Peterkin, Bennettsville, SC; and a grandmother, Bessie Mae Graham, Society Hill, SC. Flemming Funerals-Cheraw was in charge.

Ernestine Melton Powe

CHERAW – Ernestine Melton Powe, 72, of Cheraw, SC died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 2PM from the Mt. Airy A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery Chesterfield, SC. She was born in Chesterfield, SC on December 30, 1943 to the late Noreen Melton. Survivors: a daughter, Mary Jean Davis of Pageland, SC and a son, Davie E. Melton of the home. Flemming Funerals-Cheraw was in charge. .

Tracy Hurst Rhyne

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Tracy Hurst Rhyne, age 46, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation was from 5:00 – 6:00 P.M. Thursday, March 24, 2016 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rhyne was born February 6, 1970, in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of Peggy Goodale Hurst Morrow and the late Billy Hurst. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and was a homemaker. Tracy was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She enjoyed trips to the beach and mountains and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Tracy also loved flowers, animals, and her 80’s music.

Survivors include Husband: Jody H. Rhyne of the home; Son: Tyler (Riley) Wallace of Cheraw, SC; 2 Daughters: Grayce and Gabi Rhyne of the home; Granddaughter: Willow Wallace of Cheraw, SC; Mother: Peggy Morrow of Chesterfield, SC;

Brother: Joe (Stacey) Hurst of Chesterfield, SC; Father and Mother-in-law: David and Rhonda Harpe Rhyne of Chesterfield, SC; Also a number of Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, and Cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Shiloh United Methodist Church “Parking Lot Fund, ” 3154 Hwy. 102, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Billy Frank Sinclair

MARSHVILLE, N.C. – Billy Frank Sinclair, 56, of Marshville, NC died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 3PM from the Pageland Community Center, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Gum Springs Church Cemetery, Pageland, SC. He was born in Mt. Croghan, SC on March 22, 1959 to the late Hardin Frank Sinclair and Helen Tyson Sinclair. Survivors: three daughters: Shekita Covington (Dewayne) Pageland, SC, Kamaria Sinclair, Bowie, MD and Khalilah Sinclair, Pageland, SC; two sisters: Dora Sinclair Gladney, Chester, SC and Fyrail Sinclair Marsh (Johnny), Monroe, NC; five grandchildren. Flemming Funeral-Pageland was in charge.

Betty Catoe Sullivan

JEFFERSON – Mrs. Betty Catoe Sullivan, age 72, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at her home.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Fork Creek United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation was immediately following the Interment in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Sullivan was born November 30, 1943, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late Clarence and Ruby Catoe. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Springs Industries, and was a member of Fork Creek United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed sewing, knitting, puzzles, and collecting antiques. She also loved camping and spending time at the beach.

Survivors include Husband of 56 years: Joe Thomas Sullivan of the home; 2 Sons: Brian (Wendy) Sullivan and Eric Sullivan both of Jefferson, SC; 2 Daughters: Beth (Floyd) Demby and Deborah (Tommy) Catoe both of Jefferson, SC; 8 Grandchildren: Chad (Kelsey) Demby, Layne (Kevin) Rollins, Casey (Nicole) Catoe, Alisha Catoe, Lacy (Davis) Catoe, Thomas Catoe, Jr., Sydney Sullivan, and Lexi Sullivan all of Jefferson, SC; 6 Great Grandchildren: Kylie, Ashton, Faith, Bentley, Emma, and Harper; 2 Brothers: Donald (Kathy) Catoe of Charleston, SC and Sam (Kathy) Catoe of Pageland, SC; 5 Sisters: Sue Rollings of Myrtle Beach, SC, Elaine Knight and Diane (Randy) Gregory, both of Lancaster, SC, Emily (Phil) Robinson and Janice (Kenneth) Cauthen both of Kershaw, SC.

Brian Murchison McBride

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Brian Murchison McBride passed away at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 13, 2016. Brian was born on May 26, 1980 in Charleston, SC to Bill McBride and Ethel Murchison Eckenstein.
Brian grew up in Cheraw, SC, and was a member of St David's Church. He graduated from Cheraw High School in 1998. He attended Florence Darlington Technical College.
Brian is survived by his mother, Ethel (Jack) Eckenstein of Florence, SC; his father, Bill (Jacque) McBride of Murrells Inlet, SC; his brother Billy (Karen) McBride of Florence, SC; his twin sister, Kate McBride of Florence, SC; his daughters, Myriam and Maya McBride of Cosby, Tennessee; his nephew and niece, Wells and Collins McBride of Florence, SC; and other relatives and friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Colonel Retired Robert B. and Mary Murchison of Dillon; and paternal grandmother, Juel D. McClain of Charleston.
Funeral was held at St David's Church on Friday March 18, at 11 AM. Visitation was held the hour before the service in the St David's Chapel. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Dillon in the Murchison plot. Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.

Deanna Driggers Miles

WALLACE - Deanna Driggers Miles, 47, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late Billy Carl Driggers and Grace White Griggs. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Lester Miles, daughters, Chasity (Travis) Miles, Alicia (R.C.) Miles, step-father, Edwin Griggs, a brother, Chris (Margaret) Griggs, sisters, Tracy Griggs (Jimmy) Miller, Judy D. (Shuler) Clark all of Wallace, SC, Cheryl D. (Billy) Lovin of Hamlet, NC, grandchildren, Ella, Karleigh, Madison, Liley and Brenna.

The family received friends 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Friday, March 18, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 5:00 PM, Friday, March 18, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Burial was in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wallace, SC.

Sue Brock Adams

CHERAW – Mrs. Sue Brock Adams, age 79, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Brock’s Mill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Adams was born August 28, 1936 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Therrell and Annie V. Parker Brock. She was a member of Cash Baptist Church and was a former employee of Stanley Tools. Sue loved working in her flowers and in her garden every summer, and working word search puzzles. She enjoyed having family and friends get togethers. Mrs. Sue was a loving mom and grandmom. In addition to her parents, Sue was also preceded in death by her husband Gerald W. Adams; two sisters, Reatha English and Arlene King; one brother, Dean Brock; one grandson, Michael Dean Malloy; and one great grandson, Riker Pittman.

Survivors include 2 Sons: Tim (Cathy) Adams and Mark (Tina) Adams both of Cheraw, SC;

1 Daughter: Geraldine (Ricky) Malloy of Cheraw, SC; 5 Grandchildren: Ricky Malloy, Jr., Brad (Erica) Pittman, Kenneth Nicholas, Jacob Nicholas, and Heather (Chuck) Caulder; Also: 7 Great Grandchildren; 3 Brothers: Richard Brock of Florence, SC, Harold Brock of Durham, NC, and Jerry Brock of Lexington, SC.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, SC.

John Olin Atkinson

CHERAW – John Olin Atkinson, 75, died Sunday March 6, 2016. Born in Angelus, SC he was a son of the late James Owen and Marie Middleton Atkinson. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Cheraw Masonic Lodge #15. Mr. Atkinson was a US Army Veteran (Helicopter Mechanic) having served in Vietnam 1963-1964. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, collecting and restoring classic cars, and hosting pig-pickins.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Barley Atkinson, sons, Bryan Steven Atkinson, John Edwin (Jamie) Atkinson, a daughter, Janice A. (Kip) Kiser all of Cheraw, SC, a brother, L. Neal (Mamie) Atkinson of Columbia, SC, grandchildren, Rachel Kiser, Graham Kiser, Kelsey Atkinson, Madyson Scott, Caleb Atkinson and Kaitlyn Atkinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents listed above and a brother, James Kenneth Atkinson.

The family received friends 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

Burial with military honors was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Gwendolyn Johnson

HYATTSVILLE, Md. – On Saturday, March 5, 2016 Gwendolyn Johnson went peacefully to Heaven while surrounded by her family. She was born in 1940 to Moultrie and Annie Hudson in Cheraw, South Carolina. Gwendolyn married a young man from her hometown named John E. Johnson. John’s career in the United States Army was the start of their unique adventure. As a military wife with a growing family, Gwendolyn still found time to earn her Master’s Degree. She taught at numerous primary schools, finishing her career at Brent Elementary School in Washington, DC. The couple were longtime residents of Bowie, Maryland and active members of St. Lucille AME Zion Church in Washington, DC. Gwendolyn was the beloved wife of 54 years to Lieutenant Colonel John E. Johnson (U.S. Army, Retired), devoted mother of Latonya Thompson, John Johnson, Duane “DJ” Johnson, Andrea Monique Kirkland, Chris Johnson and Amia Johnson. She was the mother-in-law of Robert Thompson, Clare Johnson, Jessica Johnson and Charles Kirkland Jr. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Danielle (Garrett) Simpson, Lavel Thompson, Brock Johnson, Andrew Jones, Charles, Samuel and Alyssa Kirkland, Jayden Boatwright and two beautiful great-grandchildren, Abraham Simpson and Janiya Maddox. Visitation and services were held in Maryland and Washington, DC. Graveside service at Cheltenham Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery on March 16, 2016. Arrangements entrusted to Gasch’s Funeral Home, P.A., Hyattsville, MD.

David Neal Jordan

PAGELAND – Mr. David Neal Jordan, 64, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Tuesday, March 4, 1952 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina to the late Hardy “Shine” Jordan and Betty Bernice Gooden Jordan. He is preceded in death by his Brothers, Leverne Jordan and Randy Jordan. Mr. Jordan enjoyed Drag Racing with his boys and the Jordan Brothers. He was a truck driver for 12 years. He also attended Pageland Rose Memorial Nazarene Church.

Mr. Jordan is survived by his Wife of 19 years, Libby Jordan of Pageland, SC, Sons, Chris Jordan (Brandy) of Pageland, SC and Scott Jordan (Amelia) of Florence, AL, Step-Son, Brad Williams (Angel) of Kershaw, SC, Step-Daughter, Hope Williams of Kershaw, SC, Brother, Charles Jordan (Lucy) of Pageland, SC, Sister, Darlene "Debbie" Helms (Don) of Pageland, SC Grandchildren, Zachary Jordan, Ariel Jordan, Kaleb Jordan and Allie Jordan and Step-Grandchildren, Alisha Prince, Cody Prince, Anna Williams, Lilly Prince, Tylor Tadlock and Caydence Tadlock.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Pageland Rose Memorial Nazarene Church with the Rev. Scott Gibson officiating. The burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Baumgartner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pageland Rose Memorial Nazarene, Church, P.O. Box 275, Pageland, SC 29728.

Willie C. Mungo

PAGELAND – Willie C. Mungo, 96, of Pageland, SC died on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11AM from the Pageland Community Center, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Mt. Elon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jefferson, SC. He was born in Kershaw, SC on August 3, 1919 to the late James Mungo and Catherine Mungo. He was united in holy matrimony to Malinda Mae Jowers and they celebrated 74 years together. Survivors: children, James “Jimmy” Mungo, Wilhelmina Miller (Johnny), Leonard Mack “L.M.” Mungo (Kay Francis), Nannie Lee Mungo, Catherine Redfearn (James), Matthew Mungo (Regina), Linda Blakeney (Sam) and Joyce Alford (Michael); and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals- Pageland was in charge. .

Dorothy Clark Winburn

Cheraw – Dorothy Clark Winburn, 90, died Saturday, March 12, 2016.

A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, March 15, 2016, St Peters Catholic Church, Cheraw, SC.
