WALLACE - Joyce Smith English, 76, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Born in Hamlet, NC she was a daughter of the late Rozell Smith and Jennie Mae English. She was the widow of Joseph D. English. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC. She was a loving caretaker of family members and people in the community.

Her survivors include her daughters, Cindy (Randy) Polson, Sheila (Shaune) Whitten, Melinda J. English all of Wallace, SC, grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) Cohoon, Joseph (Amber) Cohoon, James (Nikki) Polson, Jadon English, great grandchildren, Landon Cohoon, Lillie Cohoon, Bentley Cohoon, Colton Cohoon, Kayleigh Polson, Brayden Polson, Aubree Polson, a sister, Barbara Sue Clark of Laurel Hill, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above and a sister, Leatha Steen.

The family received friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Friday, June 10, 2016 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC.

A funeral service was held 2:00 PM, Friday, June 10, 2016 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC.

Billy Ray Fincher

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Billy Ray Fincher, age 70, died Monday, June 6, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2016 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Fincher was born September 9, 1945 in Monroe, NC a son of the late Louie Vernon and Doris Nicholson Fincher. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired employee of Caro Knit with 35 years of service. Mr. Fincher was the owner and operator of Memories by Billy and a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Billy was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Fincher.

Survivors include 2 Sisters: Betty Oliver of Mt. Croghan, SC and Sheila Wright of Chesterfield, SC; Special Friends: Don (Betty) Crutchfield of Chesterfield, SC; Also: Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

Virginia Osteen Graham

CHERAW - Virginia Osteen Graham, 91, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Born in New Smyrna Beach, FL, she was a daughter of the late Mitchell Dick and Vera Louise Gessford Osteen and the widow of William Graham. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. Mrs. Graham was a retired Accountant Assistant.

Her survivors include a sister, Marian Roach of Jacksonville, FL, a niece, Elaine Strange, great nephews and nieces.

A graveside service was held 1:00 PM, Friday, June 10, 2016 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Martha Sue P. ‘Mama Sue’ Mancill

CHERAW - Mrs. Martha Sue P. “Mama Sue” Mancill, age 87, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.

Mrs. Mancill was born August 9, 1928 in Cheraw, SC a daughter of the late George Ervin and Kezzie Mae Caulder Parnell. She was a retired employee with Robertson Drapery and a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and working in her flowers. Mama Sue’s home was always open to everyone. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam Perry Mancill, her sister Genie Rae Parnell Davis, and sister-in-law, Maude Quick Parnell.

Survivors include 1 Son: Perry Mancill of Florence, SC; 3 Daughters: Jennie M. Turnage and Terrie M. Chapman both of Cheraw, SC and Brenda M. (Rev. Robert) Turner of Patrick, SC;

6 Grandchildren: Matthew (Kimberly) Turner, Dusty Chapman, Sam Turnage, Brandi (Joey) McKay, Patrick (Shannon) Mancill and Jonathan Mancill; Also 4 Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother: Roy Parnell of Cheraw, SC; and Special Caregiver: Lorriane English.

Marvin Munnerlyn Jr.

DARLINGTON - Marvin Munnerlyn, Jr., 80, died Friday, June 10, 2016. Born in Bennettsville, SC he was the son of the late Marvin and Evelyn McDuffie Munnerlyn. He was the widower of Brenda Gale Quick Munnerlyn. He and Brenda had been married for 50 Years. He was a member of Palmetto Street Church of God, Florence, SC. Mr. Munnerlyn worked at Pamplico Bank and Trust for over 40 years. He loved to tell stories, go fishing and spend time with his granddaughter Hailey.

Survivors include his son, Jason Marvin Munnerlyn of Darlington, SC, a daughter, Amy M. (Kevin) Poston of Pamplico, SC and a grandchild, Hailey Elizebeth Poston.

The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Palmetto Street Church of God, Florence, SC. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Palmetto Street Church of God, Florence, SC. Burial with military honors will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Janet Lee Brock Rivers

CHERAW - Janet Lee Brock Rivers, 62, died Thursday, June 9, 2016. Born in Chesterfield, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Allen Brock, Sr. and Mary Ruth Threadgill Brock. She had been a member of Brock’s Mill Baptist Church and Westfield Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and was a cat lover.

She is survived by her brother, Henry Allen Brock, Jr. of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Trudy Stamey of Hartsville, SC, and Ann Morris of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Erin Roscoe, Cody Melton, and Nicklos Melton, and great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Roscoe, Tanner Melton, and Lillie Rae Melton.

She is preceded in death by her parents listed above, and a sister Betsy Joanne Melton.

The family will receive friends 11:00 AM, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Fred Sheheen

CAMDEN - A Mass of Christian Burial for Fred Roukos Sheheen, 79, of Camden, SC, was held at noon Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Father John Zimmerman officiated. The family received visitors at the home on Wednesday, June 8th from 10 a.m. 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, 810 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020; the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Kirkland, 647 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, SC 29078; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1709 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020; Columbia City Ballet, 1545 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201; or Allen University, 1530 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29204.

Fred Sheheen, beloved husband of Rose Serio Sheheen for almost fifty years, died Monday, June 6, 2016. He was born in Camden, SC, a son of the late Austin Moses Sheheen, Sr. and Lucile Roukos Sheheen. Mr. Sheheen was a former head of the state Commission of Higher Education. He was a graduate of Camden High School and finished with honors from Duke University in the late 1950s. After graduating, he worked as a reporter for The Charlotte Observer, covering civil-rights issues. In the 1960s, he worked as an aide to S.C. Gov. Donald Russell.

Mr. Sheheen was head of the state agency that oversees public colleges and universities, the Commission on Higher Education, from 1987-1997. At the commission, he helped craft policies to provide equality for blacks attending S.C. colleges and universities. Mr. Sheheen was a dedicated supporter of the arts, and very active in local and civic affairs. He was a lifelong supporter of the Democratic Party and continued to be committed to public service until his death.

Besides his wife, Mr. Sheheen is survived by his son, Vincent Sheheen (Amy) of Camden, SC; Maria Spring (Steven) of Camden, SC, and Margaret Bishop (Matthew) of Camden, SC; brothers, Austin M. Sheheen, Jr. and Robert J. Sheheen; grandchildren, Austin, Joseph and Anthony Sheheen. William and Robert Spring, David, Olivia and Thomas Bishop.

Besides his parents, Mr. Sheheen was predeceased by his daughter, Olivia Marie Sheheen, and his brother, Michael Sheheen.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Kay Emanuel

CHESTERFIELD - Ms. Helen Kay Emanuel, age 64, died Monday, May 30, 2016.

A service of celebration was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation was from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ms. Emanuel was born January 8, 1952 in Washington DC a daughter of the late Florian Witczak and Emma Louise Richards Witczak. She was a retired teller with First Citizens Bank, and was of the Catholic Faith. Helen was a loving mother and a very proud grandmother.

Survivors include 1 Son: Sean F. Emanuel of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Daughter: Jennifer Emanuel of Myrtle Beach, SC; 1 Grandson: Mitchell Wideman III; 1 Brother: George Witczak of Chesterfield, SC; 2 Sisters: Mary Lou Entwistle and Martha Ann Mencer both of Maryland; Special Friend: Richard Sellers of Chesterfield, SC; Also many Nieces and Nephews.

Frances Ann Griggs Loflin

CHERAW - Frances Ann Griggs Loflin, 65, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Born in Mount Croghan, SC, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Pauline Horne Griggs. Mrs. Loflin was the widow of Donnie Loflin. She attended Living Hope Church when she was able. She enjoyed sewing, working with flowers and doing puzzles with family.

Mrs. Loflin is survived by a son, Eric DeWayne Loflin (Nikki McDonald) of Cheraw, SC, daughters, Donna Jean (James) Maroney of Cheraw, SC, and Donna Dean (Kenny) Childers of Cheraw, SC, brothers, Lemuel Wallace Griggs of Summerville, SC, James M. Griggs of Cheraw, SC, Tommy L. Griggs of Corsicana, TX, and William J. Griggs of Olanta, SC, sisters, Sara Pauline Roscoe of Cheraw, SC, and Marie Shaw of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Cameron “Alex” Loflin, Coty Childers (Christin Gulledge), Taylor Loflin, Kristopher “Peanut” Childers, Jade Maroney, and Donnie Maroney, step-grandchildren, Brent McDonald, and Amber Caison, a great-grandchild, Emelia, and two step-great-grandchildren, Ariyane, and Isaac.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents listed above, and a sister Shirley Gandy.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held, 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

Walter Robert Teal

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Walter Robert Teal, age 70, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at his home.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Teal was born September 27, 1945 in Hartsville, SC, a son of the late Frank and Mary Turner Teal. He was a retired employee of Highland Industries and was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Walter also was an auto mechanic and enjoyed working on cars, and was a NASCAR fan. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and spending time with Blade. He also was a former CB and Ham Radio operator. In addition to his parents, Walter was also preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Suzanne Teal.

Survivors include Wife of 47 years: Jo Ann Teal of the home; 2 Sons: Jackson Teal of Chesterfield, SC and Blade Teal of the home; 2 Sisters: Frances Teal of Las Vegas, NV and Elizabeth (Jimmy) Hutson of Hartsville, SC; Special Brother: Charlie Hageman of Cheraw, SC;
Also Nieces and Nephews.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o Oletta Deese, 252 Cassidy Mill Road, Patrick SC 29584.

CHERAW - Janice Gail Watson, 60, died Sunday, June 5, 2016. Born in Florence, SC she was a daughter of Dorothy Harris Watson of Cheraw, SC and the late Tyler Bennett “T.B.” Watson. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC all of her life. She was a sweet gentle lady who loved everyone she met. Janice had the talent to make you smile. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by them and all of her friends.

Survivors include her mother listed above, brothers, Ron B. (Sandi) Watson of Cheraw, SC, Wade H. (Debbie) Watson of Chesapeake, VA, a sister, Margaret W. (Roger) Wolfe of Cheraw, SC, nephews, Ben (Lauri) Watson, Randy (Kim) Watson, Alex Watson, a niece, Lauren (Paisley) Watson, great nephews, Drew Copeland, Tyler Watson, George Paisley Watson, III, Connor Watson and a great niece, Brantley Watson.

She was preceded in death by her father listed above and a niece, Allison Leanne Toole.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Old St. David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.
