Jack Jordan

PAGELAND - Mr. Jack Jordan, 77, of Pageland, South Carolina went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 16, 2016.

Mr. Jordan was born in Jefferson, South Carolina to the late Oris Jordan and the late Nellie Sutton Jordan. He later met and united in marriage of 58 years to Sue Jordan. He was a lifetime member of Zion United Methodist Church, High Point Fire Department, and a Charter member of the Pageland Rescue Squad where he served as Chaplain. Jack loved Bluegrass music, playing his fiddle and his cat, Garfield.

Mr. Jordan is survived by his Wife, Sue Jordan of the home, Son, Michael Jordan of Pageland, SC, Brother, David W. Jordan of Lancaster, SC, Sisters, Betty J. Wilbanks of Pageland, SC and Edith Sabia (Mark) of Las Vegas, Nevada.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Zion United Methodist Church with Pastor Athon Arant and Pastor James Lewis officiating. The burial followed at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Baumgartner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 647 Zion Church Road, Pageland, SC 29728, High Point Fire Dept., PO Box 164, Pageland, SC 29728 or Pageland Rescue Squad, PO Box 507, Pageland, SC 29728.

Nona G. Lowrimore

HICKORY, N.C. – Nona Jean Gardner Lowrimore, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Catawba Valley Hospice House. Born June 23, 1930 in Patrick, SC, she was the daughter of the late Simeon Hoke Gardner and Essie Hodge Gardner. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and was a devout Christian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy H. Lowrimore, Jr; and brother, James Carlisle Gardner.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas R. Lowrimore and wife Carla of NM; daughters, Hope R. Lowrimore of VA and Leanne Lowrimore Johnson of Hickory; grandchildren, Megan Johnson of Hickory, Scott Johnson and wife Mykah of Stoney Point, Levi Johnson of Taylorsville, Steven Lowrimore and wife Mary of WA and Kristi Lowrimore of TX; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Johnson Moose; brother, Simeon H. Gardner, II and wife Shelby of GA and sister-in-law, Martha Gardner of GA.

A graveside service will be held for Nona and Roy at a later date in Cheraw, SC.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kenneth Colman and the staff of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.

Billy Ray Leviner

WALLACE - Billy Ray Leviner, 76, died Saturday, May 14, 2016. Born in Marlboro County, SC he was a son of the late Jimmy and Lucy Mae Rainwater Leviner. He was a retired pipefitter. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and riding his tractor. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Brenda Sue Chavis Leviner, a son, William Ray Leviner, a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Chavis, a brother, Jimmy “Jap” (Barbara) Leviner, sisters, Nellie Faye (Charles) Perdue, Mildred (Richard) Jackson, grandchildren Tristan Chavis and Hayden Leviner all of Wallace, SC. Also, several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, May 16, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Bonnie Atkinson Privette

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Bonnie Atkinson Privette, age 69, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at her home.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 21, 2016 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Privette was born June 7, 1946, in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of the late Coy Thomas and Essie Cassidy Atkinson. She was a retired employee of Galey & Lord. Bonnie enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking for her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Patricia Brigman and Vonzille Jordan.

Survivors include Husband of 54 years: Robert H. Privette of the home; 1 Son: Robert H. Privette, Jr. of the Philippines; 4 Daughters: Carolyn (Eric) Hatchell of Cheraw, SC; Pamela (Tommy) Kirkley of Society Hill, SC; Robin Lang of Bennettsville, SC; and Deborah (Randy) Sellers of Chesterfield, SC; 12 Grandchildren: Joseph (Diedra) Hatchell, Jr., Randell (Bailey) Sellers, Brandon (Kimberly) Pregmon, Amber Pregmon Parker, Corbin (Ashley) Hatchell, Courtney (Bret) Hess, Carrie Privette, Taylor Lang, Caitlin (Jacobs) Williams, Forrest Privette, Rory Privette, and Carolina Privette; 7 Great Grandchildren: Kinsey Hatchell, Lily Pregmon, Joseph Hatchell, III, Kodak Hatchell, Remmington Hatchell, Brody Williams, and Case Sellers;

7 Brothers: Jack (Julia) Steen of Ruby, SC; Bobby Atkinson and Billy (Ruth) Atkinson, both of Charlotte, NC; Robert (Faye) Atkinson of Jefferson, SC; William (Jenny) Atkinson of Pageland, SC; Tommy (Gail) Atkinson of Chesterfield, SC; and Grady (Betty) Atkinson of Ruby, SC;

4 Sisters: Beatrice Johnson and Sylvia Lawing both of Charlotte, NC; Claire Roberts of Mt. Croghan, SC; and Catherine Atkinson of Ruby, SC; and Brother-in-law: James Jordan of Ruby, SC.

Herbert D. Snyder

CHERAW – Dr. Herbert D. Snyder, 65, of Cheraw, SC, died Monday, May 9, 2016, in hospice near his former residence in Shallotte, NC. He was born March 10, 1951, in Carlisle, the second of four sons of the late William H. Snyder, Sr., and Dorothy W. Snyder. He was twice married, first to Janice Eyler (now Snyder-Hess) and later to Denise Yunginger (now Snyder), who was his care-giver during his last illness. Both survive, along with the following children: Jeffrey B. Snyder, of Lancaster, Benjamin S. Snyder, of Oakland, CA, Kathryn L. Snyder, of Cape Town, South Africa, and Cole R. Snyder, of Shallotte, NC, and two grand-children: Ivy and River. He is also survived by three brothers: William, of Bedford, Edward, of Charlotte, NC, and Reginald, of Roanoke, VA; one aunt, Jane Gorman, of Bedford; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He nurtured his relationships with them all with kindness, thoughtfulness and endearing good humor.

Dr. Snyder was a graduate of Bedford High School and Dickinson College in Carlisle. He completed a master of science degree in biology at Pennsylvania State University, medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia (1979), internship (1980) and residency (1984) at Boston University Surgical Training Program in Boston, and two years in the United States Navy as a medical officer. He was a board certified general surgeon.

Following his military service, he established a practice in general surgery in Lancaster, and relocated to Brunswick County in southeast NC in 1997 and to Chesterfield County, SC, in 2008. There he maintained affiliations with Chesterfield General Hospital, Marlboro Park Hospital and Loris Healthcare System until illness led to his retirement in 2014.

A Methodist by upbringing, he was last attending services and singing in the choir at the United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, SC, before his final illness.

A memorial service was held at the Bedford United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Jeff Welsch officiating. Burial at Everett Cemetery. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, at 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.

Peggy Taylor Wallace

CHERAW - Peggy Taylor Wallace, SC 58, died, Tuesday, May 17, born in Union, SC she was a daughter of Francis McGowan of Union, SC and the late Joan Wood McGowan. She was a Dean’s List Graduate of Francis Marion College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. She was retired from INA Bearing. She attended Cheraw Family Worship Center. She loved spending time with her children, nieces and nephews.

Surviving is her husband, Thomas Wallace of Cheraw, SC, a son, Austin Mashburn of Cheraw, SC, her father listed above, brothers Michael McGowan, Francis “Dudley” McGowan, Jr. both of Union, SC, and a grandchild, Mallory Brooke Outlaw.

She was preceded in death by her mother listed above a daughter, Kacie J. Taylor and a sister, Janet Northern.

The family received friends 11:00 am to 12 Noon, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Cheraw Family Worship Center, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 12 Noon, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Cheraw Family Worship Center, Cheraw, SC.

Burial was in Hawkins Lane Cemetery, Union, SC.

Jean Hancock Curtis

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Jean Hancock Curtis, age 86, died Sunday, July 17, 2016. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2016at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Phillip Caulder, Jr. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home until 5:00 PM. A private family committal will be held at the Chesterfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Curtis was born March 25, 1930 in Ruby, SC a daughter of the late Carl Ezra and Annie Campbell Hancock. She was a graduate of Ruby High School and Furman University. Mrs. Curtis was a faithful member of Chesterfield Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and on various church committees through the years. Mrs. Curtis began her working career as a supervisor with the Chesterfield County School District lunch program and joined her husband Bill in 1961 as co-owner and operator of Curtis Oil Company. She was the first recipient of the Katherine G. Hurst business woman of the year award. Mrs. Curtis loved her Lord, her family, and her flowers. In addition to her parents, Jean was also preceded in death by her twin brothers, Harold and Harris Hancock; her sister, Madge Wilkins; and 1 son-in-law, Kenny Welch.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 63 years, Bill Curtis of the home; children, Dennis Curtis and friend Rosa Privette, Teresa Welch, Dean Curtis and wife Josephine, Douglas Curtis and wife Carol Ann, Danny Curtis and wife Terrie, and Tenita (Jerry) Sellers all of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Amanda Jean Curtis, Jennifer Curtis Grainger and husband Brandon, William Dennis “Will” Curtis, Jr., Clint Welch, Moni C. Rayfield and husband Brandon, Ashley Curtis, Josh Zearfoss and wife Kristy, Kirkley Curtis, Natalie Watson and husband Trey, Linsey Curtis, Taylor Curtis, Elizabeth C. Snipes and husband Brandon, Daniel Curtis and Lane Sellers; her great grandchildren, Kaylee, Emma, Scarlett, Everett, Briley, Reed, and Deacon; 2 sisters, Joyce Rivers of Fletcher, NC and Bertie Willis and husband Joe of Simpsonville, SC; 1 brother, Terry Hancock of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and her children of the heart, Johnny Rivers and Debbie Lisenby.

PAGELAND – Elsie Miller, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 18, 2016, at 2PM from the Salem United Methodist Church, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born November 22, 1915 to the late William and Effie Blakeney. Survivors: five sons, Jackie Miller (Sarah), Eddie Miller, both of Manhattan, NY, Tony Miller (Mary), Indian Trail, NC, Ronald Miller, Pageland, SC and Vernon Miller (Kay), Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Janet Capehart (Walt), Valley Stream, NY; three sisters, Marcene Timmons, Charlotte, NC, Ernestine Gantt, Columbia, SC and Peggy Ann Blakeney, Manhattan, NY; eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals-Pageland was in charge. .

J.B. Moore

CHERAW – Mr. J.B. Moore, age 84, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 15, 2016 at his home. Funeral Services will be12:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. R.P. Grice. The interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore was born April 17, 1932 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late James William and Mary Harpe Moore. He was a retired textile worker with Cannon Mills and a faithful member of Cheraw Church of God. Mr. Moore enjoyed fishing and working in his garden.

In addition to his parents, J.B. was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, James Hazel Moore and John Moore; 3 sisters, Annabell Moore Proctor, Edith Moore Williams, and Rosa Moore Sims; 1 son, Bobby Ray Moore; and his son-in-law, James Webb.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Harriet Graham Moore of the home; 3 sons, William Gary Moore of Cheraw, SC, Ronnie Dean Moore of Concord, NC, and Timothy Scott Moore and wife Gloria of Salisbury, NC; his daughter, Bonnie Jean Webb of Concord, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Travis Novinger, the nurses and staff of Embrace Hospice, and Kathy Teal for the love and care shown to Mr. Moore.

The family requests that memorials be made in Mr. Moore’s memory to Cheraw Church of God, 100 Pecan Orchard Road, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Sylvia Starnes Crowley

PATRICK - Mrs. Sylvia Starnes Crowley, age 69, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Scott Adams. Burial followed in the Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Crowley was born October 30, 1946 in Cassatt, SC a daughter of the late Joyce and Pearl Halford Starnes. She was a homemaker and member of Green Hill Church of God of Prophecy. She also enjoyed attending The Living Word. Mrs. Crowley enjoyed working in her flowers, watching hummingbirds, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a true Christian lady who loved the Lord, and was known throughout the community as a faithful “Prayer Warrior.”

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Moore Crowley; and her 3 sisters, Judy Russell, Marie Carpenter, and Eunice Brown.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth Moore Crowley and wife Jackie of Patrick, SC, Eric Michael Kuhn and wife Becky of Chesterfield, SC, Vera “Cretia” Egner and husband Parker, Kim Blackwell and husband Chris, and Jean Bryant all of Patrick, SC; 8 grandchildren, Cortney and Andrew Egner, Jimmy and Shelby Bryant, Lucas and Hannah Blackwell, and Haley and Gavin Kuhn; 3 great grandchildren, Zada Reece Egner, Rhett Boone Leviner, and soon to be arriving, EllijaePearl Phillips; and 1 brother, Jeff Starnes and wife, Betty Jo of Patrick, SC

Harold Taylor Holliday Sr.

FLORENCE - Mr. Harold Taylor Holliday, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Holliday was born to the late John Mayo Holliday and Blanche Taylor Holliday McWhite on January 23rd, 1928 in Conway, South Carolina. He graduated from Carlie Military School in Bamberg, South Carolina. Mr. Harold attended Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1952. He served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Pasadena from 1946—1948. While in Long Beach, CA, Harold witnessed the flying of “The Spruce Goose” that Howard Hughes built for the military. He married Sally Rice in 1949. After 47 years of marriage, Mrs. Sally Holliday passed on. He worked for J.P. Stevens in Wallace, South Carolina and retired there in the late 1980’s.

Mr. Holliday is survived by his son, Harold Taylor Holliday, Jr. and wife Doris Holliday in St. Ignatius, Montana, daughter, Tressa Holliday Tuck and husband Phillip Tuck of Nolensville, Tennessee, grandchildren, Harold Taylor Holliday III, Benjamin Jacob Holliday, John Phillip Sullivan Tuck, Sally Madison Ann Tuck, great grandchildren, Victoria, Olivia and Landon Holliday.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service was held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016

at Chatham Hill Memorial Garden in Cheraw, South Carolina with Pastor Ken Timmerman officiating.

The family visited with friends following the Graveside Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to go to the General Fund at First United Methodist Church of Cheraw, 117 3rd St., Cheraw, SC 29520.

The family has chosen Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, South Carolina to handle arrangements.
