Martha M. Foster
Union native

COLUMBIA - Funeral services for Martha Miller Foster of Columbia will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Northeast Baptist Church with burial following in Mitchell Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Union. Mrs. Foster was born in Union, the daughter of the late Albert and Florie M. Miller.

She is survived by a son, two daughters, a brother and two sisters. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home of Columbia has charge of arrangements.

William T. Brown
Formerly employed with Milliken and Co.

William Thomas Brown, 70, of 1817 Jonesville Highway, died Dec. 19, 2002, at 4:15 a.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mr. Brown was born in Union on Nov. 27, 1932, a son of the late George O. Brown and Estell Steen Brown. He was a Baptist and was formerly employed with Milliken and Co., Lockhart Plant.

Surviving are his step-mother, Irene M. Greer of Union; two half-sisters, Iris Whisnant and Patricia B. Edmonds both of Union; and a half-brother, Oliver R. Brown of Union. Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lockhart Cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately after the graveside services at the home of his step-mother, Irene M. Greer, 1530 Santuc-Carlisle Highway., Union. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Carolina, 432B N. Duncan By-Pass, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gordon Lee Everhart
Former Union merchant

MARTINSVILLE, VA. - Gordon Lee Everhart, 87, formerly of Belmont, N.C. died Dec. 17, 2002 at Stanley Total Living Center in Stanley, N.C. Mr. Everhart was owner of Gordon's Shoes in Union for many years and resided on Springdale Drive.

He is survived by a daughter, Jane Everhart Horne, of Belmont, N.C. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va. Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 8 at Norris Funeral Services Chapel in Martinsville. Norris Funeral Services Inc., Martinsville, Va. has charge of arrangements.

Hamlet F. Harris
Retired Chief Petty Officer

NORTH CHARLESTON - Hamlet Finis Harris, of North Charleston, widower of Thelma Harris, died Dec. 17, 2002. Mr. Harris was born in Union on Aug. 22, 1926, a son of the late Samuel J. and Stella Belle Palmer Harris. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was a retired Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was also retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Mr. Harris was a member and Past Master of Solomon's No. 1 Masonic Lodge, a member of the York Rite, the Omar Shrine Temple, the Fleet Reserve, Chapter #50 and the VFW Post 3142.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan White of N. Charleston; a son, Hamlet F. Harris Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert N. Harris of Union and S.J. Harris of Buffalo; five sisters, Anne Litchfield and Stella Litchfield of Charleston, Easter Walton of Augusta, Ga.; Joyce Harris of Mobile, Ala.; and Ruth Corn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mildred Martin of Goose Creek.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., North Area Chapel. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's North Area Chapel today from 5-7 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 4990 Dorchester Rd., N. Charleston, S.C. 29418. Stuhr's North Area Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Carrie E. Bouler
Retired from Rutgers University

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Carrie E. Bouler, 91, of New Brunswick, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at Franklin Care Center, Franklin Park, NJ. Born in Fairfield County, she formerly lived in Union before relocating to New Jersey. She was a retiree of Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Ms. Bouler was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, New Brunswick and served on the Deaconess and Missionary Boards.

She was predeceased by a son, Morris Ranzy Tucker and 15 brothers and sisters. Survivors include: two daughters, Floree Tucker of Highland Park, N.J., and Lois Moorman of Union; four grandchildren, Lamar Rucker of Spartanburg, Annette Glenn of Union, Sheila Porter of Somerset, N.J., and James Tucker of Highland Park, N.J.; nine great-grandchildren, a god-son, Norris Howell of New Brunswick and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, New Brunswick. Anderson Funeral Home of New Brunswick has charge of arrangements.

Frederick W. Cleghorn
Korean War veteran

Frederick William Cleghorn, 71, of 109 Crestview Drive, Union, a loving father and loyal friend, died at his residence Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at 5:55 p.m. after an extended illness. Mr. Cleghorn was born in South Bend, Ind., on July 16, 1932, a son of the late Frederick Samuel Cleghorn and Emma Gratzol Cleghorn. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister within the church.

Mr. Cleghorn was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 363 of Lakeville, Ind. Mr. Cleghorn was a retired Engineer with Torrington Co. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Cleghorn of Simpsonville; two sons, Fred M. Cleghorn of Newberry and Michael Cleghorn of Union; two sisters, Nancy Weber and Patricia Diederich, both of South Bend, Ind., and six grandchildren, Zachary Swearingen, Kendall Swearingen, Emma Swearingen, Michael Cleghorn, Mason Cleghorn and Manning Cleghorn.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church conducted by Father Raymond J. Carlo. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with military rites. Active pallbearers will be Fred Cleghorn, Mike Cleghorn, Don Swearingen, Zack Swearingen, Amber Cleghorn and Patricia Cleghorn.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. The family will be at the home, 109 Crestview Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regional Home Health Service, 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral home has charge of arrangements.

Eunice D. Thomas

Funeral services for Eunice D. Thomas of Spartanburg will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Chapel Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. D.A. Nash. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J. W. Woodward Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

William H. Turner
U.S. Army veteran

William H. Turner, 64, of 1018 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, husband of Patricia (Pat) Kirby Turner, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Turner was born in Union on Dec. 9, 1939, a son of the late Clarence W. and Martha Cudd Turner. He was a Baptist, a member of the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge and a member of the Union Shrine Club. Mr. Turner was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from Amerada Hess Corp. and was presently employed at Ace Auto Salvage.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Tonya T. and Kevin Brown of Jonesville; a son and daughter-in-law, W. Todd and Christie Turner of Jonesville; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra T. and Harold Harris of Greenville; a grandson, Jonathan Turner of Jonesville; 18 nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Joe Stover, the Rev. Bill Adams and the Rev. Scott Cobb. Mr. Turner's nephews will serve as active pallbearers. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. The family is at the home, 1018 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral home has charge of arrangements.

Michael V. Jenkins
Retired truck driver

WHITMIRE - Michael Vernon Jenkins, age 64, of 688 Old Newberry Highway, died Dec. 17, 2002, at his home. Mr. Jenkins was born in Newberry County and was a son of the late Michael and Nancy Ellen Oxner Jenkins. He was retired from Milliken & Co. as a truck driver; was a deacon of the Whitmire Presbyterian Church; served in the S.C. National Guard and was a former member of the Cattleman's Association.

Surviving are one son, Jon Jenkins of Whitmire; five daughters, Stephanie Jenkins and Leslie Jenkins both of Whitmire, Shelby Benson of Clinton, Lenlee Bodie of Laurens and Lorrie Watkins of Irmo; two brothers, Elmer Jenkins and Dutch Jenkins both of Whitmire; two sisters, Frances Adams of Union and Martha Gilmore of Whitmire and five grandchildren.

Mr. Jenkins was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Garner. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Whitmire Presbyterian Church with burial in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home in Whitmire.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Suite 312, Columbia, S.C. 29204. The family will be at the home of his brother, Elmer Jenkins, 334 Old Newberry Highway, Whitmire. Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire has charge of arrangements.

Jeannette W. Mixon
Retired from Paragon Plastics, Inc.

Jeannette Walters Mixon, 67, of 218 Belvue Drive, widow of William Harrison Mixon, died Dec. 19, 202, at 4:09 p.m. in Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mrs. Mixon was born in Walterboro on March 22, 1935, a daughter of the late Rance and Grace Parnell Walters.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Union and the Joy Sunday School Class. Mrs. Mixon was a graduate of Coker College and was retired from Paragon Plastics, Inc.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennie Lynn and Tommy F. Knox II and Regina Dare Mixon all of Union; three sisters, Leatha Tedder of Johnsonville, Mary Grace Cason of Walterboro and Betty Eaddy of Kingstree; and two brothers, Carl Robertson and Horace Robertson both of Walterboro.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Clay Howerton. Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m.

The family is at the home, 218 Belvue Drive, Union. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, S.C. Affiliate, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 311, Columbia, S.C. 29204. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
