Grace Elizabeth Rivers Sellers

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Rivers Sellers, age 92, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Granny Grace, ” entered into rest on Friday, January 20, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 4:00 PM Monday, January 23, 2017 at Hopewell Baptist Church by Pastor Phil Wyatt, Rev. Ronald Thurman, and Phillip Caulder, Jr. with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sellers was born February 29, 1924 in Mt. Croghan, SC a daughter of the late Ralph K. and Mattie Summerford Rivers. She was a graduate of Mt. Croghan High School and a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Granny Grace served the Lord through the years at her church as Youth Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years, was a member of the Adult Choir, member of the W.M.U. and was involved in various other activities and committees in the church. She was also a member of the Chesterfield Chapter of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Sellers’ hobbies included collecting dolls and enjoying being outdoors in God’s creation working in her flowers.

In addition to her parents, Granny Grace was also preceded in death by her husband, Burris Sellers; son-in-law, Carson Diggs; and 5 brothers, Joseph, Kemp, George, Lester, and James Rivers.

Survivors include her children, James Richard (Phyllis) Sellers, Judy Diggs both of Chesterfield, SC, and Sharon (David) Thurman of Ruby, SC; grandchildren, Teresa Diggs, Scott (Theressa) Diggs, Jonathan (Michelle) Sellers, Sarah (Justin) Griggs, and D.P. (Cynthia) Thurman; great grandchildren, Clifton (Crystal) Mangum, Cody Diggs, Ryan Sellers, and Haley Diggs; great great grandchild, Caston Mangum; and sister, Margaret (Gene) Sellers of Ruby, SC.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Newsome and the staff of Cheraw Family Medicine; long – time caregiver, Sherry Honeycutt; Dr. Dyer and the staff of McLeod Health of Cheraw; and the staff of Cheraw Healthcare for the loving care shown to Granny Grace and her family.

Grady William Burr

CONCORD, N.C. - Grady William Burr, Sr., 75, formerly of Chesterfield, passed away January 14, 2017, at Tucker Hospice House.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Broadus Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Quesenberry officiating. The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial took place in West Concord Cemetery.

Grady worked for Estes Trucking for a number of years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing billiards, gardening, and cooking his delicious chicken and dumplings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George “Buddy” and Rellie Johnson Burr; brothers, Avery, Kenneth, Donnie, L.J. Burr and Pete Atkinson; sister, Helen Melton; and grandson, Charles William Gooden.

Survivors include wife, Hilda Helms Burr; daughters, Jenny Burr Laney (Michael) of Pageland, SC and Cheryl Ann Burr of Concord; son, Billy Burr, Jr. of Charlotte and family friend, Donna Dupras; sister, Brenda Burr Modlin of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Timmy Bostian of Pageland, Neal Bostian (Maranda) of Bluffton, Garrett Furr and Dannielle of Concord, Taylor Hash of Sparta, N.C., and Drew Allen of Concord; five great-grandchildren, including Anna Hash of the Home; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregiver, nephew Rusty Furr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Krishna Gaines-Hickman

COLUMBIA - Krishna Gaines-Hickman, 41, died on Friday, December 30, 2016. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 1PM from the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Columbia, SC. Burial followed in the Memorial Gardens of Columbia, Columbia, SC. She was born on September 23, 1975 in Columbia, SC to Beverly R. Gaines and the late Johnny L. Gaines. Survivors: her husband, Jacques Hickman, Sr.; three children, Ky-Shah Gaines, Jacques Hickman, Jr. and Jany’a Hickman; a step-daughter, Jadiamond Hickman; her mother, Beverly R. Gaines; grandfather, Herbert Winston, Jr.; two sisters, Jocelyn Gaines and Toni Faulkner (Jeremy); and a brother, Jonathan Gaines (Tiesha). Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals. .

James Ervin Griffin

PAGELAND - Mr. James Ervin Griffin, age 59, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, after a valiant battle with a long-term illness for over 15 years. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Ervin loved his Lord and Savior, and he knew he was going home with Him when it was his time.

Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Griffin was born on November 21, 1957, in Monroe, North Carolina, a son of the late Haskell Griffin and the late Barbara Mangum Hargett. He was a loyal husband, heroic father, proud grandfather, loving brother, and dear friend.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Mills Griffin of the home; one son, Daniel Griffin and his wife Jessica of Pageland, SC; one daughter, Rebecca Geer and her husband Matthew of Pageland, SC; one brother, Alfred Griffin and his wife Debbie of Monroe, NC; and four grandchildren: Carla, Collin, Carys, and Celsey Griffin of Pageland, SC.

Mr. Griffin was a hard-working, skilled farmer who was the owner/operator of a poultry farm for over 21 years and the owner/operator of a dairy farm for over 8 years. He also grew row crops for over 29 years. Ervin enjoyed traveling and going out to eat with his family, fishing, and going to dirt track races. His wit and delightful sense of humor will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for having such a giving spirit and always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Mr. Griffin’s final wish would be for all of his friends and family to surrender their hearts and lives to the Lord.

Doris Lotharp

PAGELAND - Doris Lotharp, 67, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 12 p.m. from the Piney Grove East Baptist Church, Marshville, NC. Burial followed in the Nicey Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Marshville, NC. She was born to the late Edward Bivens and Katherine Robinson on June 23, 1949 in Union County, NC. Survivors: three daughters, Tabatha Lotharp, Pageland, SC, Samantha Williams (Kenneth), Raleigh, NC, and Nicole Maske of the home; two sons, Anthony Moore, Raleigh, NC and Darryl Bivens, Greenville, NC; two sisters, Patricia Diana White and Paulette Hammonds, Wingate, NC; two brothers, Eddie Bivens, Wingate, NC and Timothy Bivens Janice, Pageland, SC and six grandchildren. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .

Janet Elizabeth Mangum

PAGELAND - Ms. Janet Elizabeth Mangum, 53, of Pageland, SC went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 13, 2017, while surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Janet Elizabeth Mangum was born on August 17, 1963 in Union County, North Carolina to the late Lenson Mangum and Gladys Sullivan Mangum. She was a pillar of the community. Janet served on the Watermelon Festival Committee for many years. Her lively personality, extreme dedication, and willingness to help not only with the Watermelon Festival, but with other organizations in the Town of Pageland as well. She was the type of person that you did not have to call and ask for help, she was already there. She was a take charge type of person, so you knew things were done. She always put others needs before herself. She was a teacher for 31 years and Athletic Director for 10 of those years at New Heights Middle School. She had a passion for teaching and helping her students. She touched many lives through the years.

Those left to celebrate and remember her life include her brothers, Jerry Mangum (Sandra) of Charlotte, NC, Jimmy Mangum of Pageland, SC, Joey Mangum (Joyce) of Pageland, SC and Red Mangum (Sandra) of Pageland, SC, nieces and nephews, Jamie Griffin, Kelly Kirby, Greg Mangum, Jason Mangum, Holly Troxell, J.R. Mangum and Jessie Mangum, great nieces and nephews, Tyler Parker, Logan Parker, Lilly Elizabeth Kirby, Emilyn Kirby, Camryn Troxell and Connor Troxell and special aunt, Frances Reeves of Kershaw, SC.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 16, 2017 at New Heights Middle School with Dr. Joel Dale and Pastor James Lewis and Larry Stinson officiating. The family received friends following the Memorial Service.

Everett Ryvers ‘Sam’ Mason Jr.

CHERAW - Everett Ryvers Mason, Jr. (“Sam”) passed away on January 10, 2017. He was born in Wadesboro, NC on July 17, 1943 to Everett and Ruth Parker Mason. He graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1961. Soon after graduating he joined the U.S. Army, embarking on an extremely interesting and educational military career punctuated by numerous awards and commendations. Assignments over the years took him and his family to faraway places such as Korea, Vietnam, Germany and Greece. The Mason family established many strong and lasting friendships during their foreign travels, which are maintained to this day. Upon his military retirement in 1981 he once again embarked on an interesting career, this time in transportation. He and his “Big Rig” could be spotted anywhere from Arizona to Maine during those years. He retired a second time in 2004.

Sam was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cheraw serving as President of the Berean Sunday School Class.

Sam was a kind and compassionate man whose outgoing friendliness brought him many friendships. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind a family who adored him, including his wife, Margaret, of 54 years, his son Keith Mason (Kathy) of Blythewood, SC, a daughter Bonnie Cable (David) of Winnsboro, SC, a daughter Pamela Shell (Bob) of Logoff, SC, a daughter Suzanne Crowe of Nags Head, Outer Banks, NC and 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The family received friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 1:00 PM, Friday, January 13, 2017 at Cheraw First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

Burial with full military honors was held in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Those who would like to offer a memorial may do so to First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC or to a hospice program of their choice.

Carolyn Marshall McMillon

CHERAW - Carolyn Marshall McMillon, 67, died on Saturday, December 24, 2016. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1PM from the Ramah Grove Missionary Baptist Church, McFarlan, NC. Burial followed in the Galilee A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, McFarlan, NC. She was born to the late Robert and Winnie Royal Marshall on March 7, 1949 in Chesterfield County, SC. Survivors: her husband, James McMillon, Sr.; two sons, James McMillon, Jr. (Angela) and Eric McMillon (Tosha), Society Hill, SC; four grandchildren, Millie Azore (Martin), Marquest Walls, Erica McMillon and Ciera McMillon; two great grandchildren, Cameron Azore and Camilla Azore; two brothers, Sherman Marshall, High Point, NC and Albert Marshall (Lillie Mae), Cheraw, SC; two sisters, Nausicaä Ledbetter (Jimmy), High Point, NC and Shirleen Diggs (Claude), Chesterfield, SC. Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield.

Betty Pegues

CHERAW - Betty Pegues, 64, died on Monday, January 9, 2017. A memorial service was held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11am from the Word of Life Fellowship Church, Cheraw, SC. She was born to the late Olin and Cleo Alexander Pegues on February 8, 1952 in Marlboro, SC. Survivors: a son, Ronald Pack, Cheraw, SC; a daughter, Myra Peterkin (Patrick), Cheraw, SC; a stepson, Jerry Smith (Carolyn), Sumter, SC; a brother, Larry Pegues (Betty Lee), Chesterfield, SC; two sisters, Sally Bennett,

Concord, NC and Olinda Robinson (Harry), Cheraw, SC; eight grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield. .

Vivian Quick Poston

CHERAW - Vivian Quick Poston, 74, entered into Heavenly Rest on Sunday, January 8, 2017. She was married for 54 years to the late James Leonard Poston.

Born in Marlboro County on January 26, 1942 she was a daughter of the late Joe Hayes Quick and Aretta Caulder Quick. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved her church family, working in her yard, spending time at the beach, the many everyday walks and rides in the golf cart, and Thursday Morning breakfast at McDonalds.

She was retired from the Marlboro County School System, Wallace Elementary School and enjoyed helping her sisters at the Regal Touch Beauty Salon.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, listed above, and infant son, Leonard Monte Poston.

She is survived by her devoted son, Leonard Marlin Poston of North Augusta, SC, a devoted daughter, Selene Poston Clinkscales (Ray) of Cheraw, grandchildren she adored, Nicholas Bailey Poston and Ethan Poston Clinkscales, also Julia Hayes; sisters Jean Quick, Angela Q. Johnson (Scott), Brothers, Billy Joe Quick (Sandy), James William Quick (Dorothy), all of Bennettsville; several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Kiser Funeral Home.

A funeral service was held 3:00 PM, Thursday January 12, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC.

Entombment followed at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.

Serving as pallbearers Mike Quick, Ashley Quick, Joe Quick, Lathram Quick Johnson, Griffin Driggers and Brian Shy.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Steeple Fund, PO Box 377, Wallace, SC 29596 or First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market Street, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Allen Dale Webb

WALLACE - Mr. Allen Dale Webb, age 66, entered into rest on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at his home. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Cheraw Church of God by Pastor Michael Shirley and Rev. Brad Lewis with burial to follow in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Webb was born September 28, 1950 in Marlboro County, SC a son of Mildred G. Webb and the late S.B. Webb. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a faithful member of Cheraw Church of God where he served as church treasurer and Sunday school secretary. Mr. Webb enjoyed collecting coins and was proud of his collection. A devoted husband and father, he will be most remembered for his love for his family and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his father, Allen was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Peggy Glarum and Ann Brazzell.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Eleanor Q. Webb of the home; son, Nicholas (Staci) Webb of Bennettsville, SC; daughter, Lynne (David) Best of Wallace, SC; mother, Mildred G. Webb of Wallace, SC; 5 grandchildren, Noah Caulder, Caylee Webb, Caleb Webb, Lottie Best, Lee Best, and granddaughter to be arriving in April, Kyndall Webb; 2 brothers, Floyd (Libbie) Webb of Wallace, SC and Glenn (Karen) Webb of Hartsville, SC; 2 sisters, Carolyn (Alvin) Garten of Wallace, SC and Glinda Bryant of Lillington, NC; also numerous nieces and nephews.

The family cordially requests that memorials be made in memory of Mr. Webb to the Cheraw Church of God “Children’s Education Building Fund” 100 Pecan Drive, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Kelly Williams

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Kelly Williams, age 52, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 13, 2017 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Davis with burial following in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Williams was born October 17, 1964 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Linzy and Viola Tarlton Williams. He worked in construction as a pipefitter and welder for many years. Kelly was a true tradesman who enjoyed “tinkering” on old cars.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Teresa H. Williams of the home; 3 daughters, Michelle (Rick Davis) Williams of Chesterfield, SC, Erica Williams of Cheraw, SC, and Nicole Williams of Chesterfield, SC; 8 grandchildren, Alyssa, Jaylynn, Austin, Jimmy Ray, Sofia, Gabe, Carleigh, and Shanya; 4 brothers, Charlie Everett Williams of Patrick, SC, Bobby Ray (Wanda) Williams of Mooresville, NC, Lentties May (Elizabeth) Williams of Cheraw, SC, John Robert Williams of Kannapolis, NC; 2 sisters, Jean (Charles) Black of Jefferson, SC, Geraldine (Jimmy) Horton of McBee, SC; mother-in-law, Linda Hurst of Chesterfield, SC

CHERAW - Rebecca (Becky) Mayhew Cassidy, 46, died Sunday, December 25, 2016. She was the daughter of Catherine Thompson and the late Jackie Taylor Mayhew.

Becky is survived by her son, Johnathan Taylor Cassidy of Cheraw, SC, Johnathan’s father, Johnny Cassidy of Cheraw, SC, her mother listed above, a step-father, Bill Thompson of Cheraw, SC, sister, Crystal (Jason) Mayhew McQuage of Southport, NC, aunts, Joan Mayhew Easterling of Cheraw, SC, Wendy Mayhew of Charleston, SC, Ruth Horne of Ruby, SC, Margaret (Tommy) Blackwell of Cheraw, Grace Sellers of Chesterfield, SC, Louise (David) Brigman of Chesterfield, SC, and Carolyn (Dwight) Russell of Cheraw, SC, an uncle, Junior (Angie) Faulkenberry of Mt. Croghan, SC, a paternal grandfather, William Marshall of Lynchburg, VA, a maternal grandmother, Jane Mayhew of Cheraw, SC and many other family members whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Willard and Rena Lee Faulkenberry and paternal grandparents Lula Rowland Marshall and R.E. Mayhew.

The family received friends 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. A memorial service was held 4:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home.
