Louise B. NeSmith

NORTH AUGUSTA - Funeral Services for Mrs. Louise B. NeSmith, 93, who entered into rest September 2, 2017, were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Mr. Jamie Grant officiated. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. NeSmith was a native of Chesterfield County, South Carolina, having made the CSRA her home for the past 57 years. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Lakeside Baptist Church. Mrs. NeSmith work in retail her entire life, most notably at Rueben’s for the past 38 years.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Watkins, Florence, SC; a brother JW Brown, Florence, SC; a sister, Kathleen Smith, Cheraw, SC; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lance Wallace, Kris Cassidy, Jamie Grant, Gary Locklear and Kin Smith.

The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

JEFFERSON - Evangelist Nannie Huntley Sinclair, 78, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 3PM from the Christ Bible Discipleship Worship Center, Marshville, NC. Burial followed in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Wadesboro, NC. She was born April 17, 1939 to the late Crosson Huntley and Margaret Covington. Survivors: two sons, William Pegues (Debra), Cheraw, SC and John Pegues, Brooklyn, NY; four daughters, Margaret Pickett (Billy), Jefferson, SC, Barbara Selby (Hugh), Marshville, NC, Gladys Pegues and Nettie Miller (Mark), both of Pageland, SC; two sisters, Gennie Covington and Gracie Huntley, both of Charlotte, NC; four brothers, Edward Huntley, Robert Huntley (Catherine), Theodore Huntley and James Huntley (Gloria), all of Charlotte, NC; 28 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .

Barnice G. Turner

CHERAW - Mr. Barnice G. Turner, age 86, entered into rest on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 1, 2017, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Cheraw, SC, by Pastor Joe Arnold with burial to follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service in the Social Hall of the church.
Mr. Turner was born May 28, 1931, in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Gary and Ethel Burr Turner. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and a former Deacon of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Turner retired from Glenn Manufacturing, and in his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and repairing sewing machines. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and delightful sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was also preceded in death by his siblings, John Robert Turner, James G. Turner, Shirley T. Goodwin, Gladys T. Moss and his brother-in-law, William Francis Knight.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Betty W. Turner of the home; son, Gene (Debra) Turner of Patrick, SC; two daughters, Sammie (James) Griggs of Cheraw, SC, and Penny (Byron) Jacobs of Chesterfield, SC; four sisters, Willie B. Knight, Mildred (Mike) Michael, and Mary (Tom) Johnson all of Cheraw, SC, and Carolyn (Wayne) Chapman of Society Hill, SC; brother-in-law Tommy Goodwin of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren Ray (Melissa) DeJesus of South Port, NC, Kelley Christopher of Oak Ridge, TN, Brannon (Kristin)Turner of Vienna WV, Terri Anne (Jason) Cribb of Patrick, SC, Jason Winburn of Patrick, SC, Amanda (Bradley) Mishue of Hartsville, SC, Tripp Jacobs of Charleston, SC, and LeAnna Jacobs of Charleston, SC; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Tony M. Hamilton

MT. CROGHAN – Mr. Tony M. Hamilton, age 59, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 22, 2017, from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Harold Cooke and Rev. Charles Terry with burial following in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Hamilton was born October 20, 1957, in Monroe, NC, a son of the late John David Hamilton and Edith “Ms. Bill” Hamilton Vaughn. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired employee of Chesterfield Webbing. Tony was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he was a former member of the Cemetery Committee and the groundskeeper for many years. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Hamilton enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle.

In addition to his parents, Tony was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Bobby Dean Hamilton.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Annette Bowers Hamilton of the home; 2 sons, John Michael (Amanda) Hamilton of Conway, SC and James Scott (Allyson) Hamilton of Surfside Beach, SC; grandchildren, Asher Wyatt Hamilton, Devyn Cole Long, Hayley Rae Barker, Reese Lorrene Parick; brother, Johnny (Carolyn) Hamilton of Mt. Croghan, SC; uncle, Charles (Grace) Hamilton of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Robert Hamilton and David Hamilton and his children, Zachary and Xander; special great niece, Megan Suzanne Deese.

Heyward Jordan

CHERAW – Heyward Jordan, 76, died Saturday, October 21, 2017. Born in Patrick, SC he was a son of the late Hoyt and Grace Tolson Jordan. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and wrestling. His hobbies were working on cars and carpentry. He loved quality family time and going on vacations. He will be missed by family, friends and his dog Chewy.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Marie Quick Jordan of the home, daughters, Amy J. (Craig) Parks of Columbia, SC, Jamie J. (John) Atkinson of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Kelsey Atkinson, Kaitlyn Atkinson, Anna Grace Parks, Coleman Parks, Addy Parks, brothers, Floyd Jordan of Florence, SC, David Jordan of Columbia, SC, sisters Brenda Jordan Byrd of Hartsville, SC and Geraldine Jordan Griggs of Patrick, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, also, a brother, Leavern Jordan, Sr. and a sister, Hazel Jordan Boatwright.

The family received friends 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Cheraw First Baptist Church (Foyer of the family life center).

A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the family life center of Cheraw First Baptist Church. Burial was in Brown Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Patrick, SC.

PAGELAND – Margaret Miller Price, 65, died on Friday, October 13, 2017. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 2PM from the Pageland Community Center, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, Pageland, SC. She was born March 7, 1952 in Chesterfield County, SC to the late Astor Miller and Eldred Miller. Survivors: her husband, Johnny Price; a son, Johnny Wayne Price, Jr. of the home; four daughters, Nancy Bernice Price, Mt. Croghan, SC, Tonya Faye Price Owens, Pageland, SC, Shantee Rene Price, Pageland, SC and Lynzae Meleah Price Smith (Timothy), Monroe, NC; two brothers, Allen Miller (Nancy), Pageland, SC and Anthony Miller, Pageland, SC; three sisters, Mildred Blakeney, Pageland, SC, Minvera Jackson, Charlotte, NC and Mary Clark, Roxboro, NC; eight grandchildren. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .

Johnnie Wooten Adams

CHERAW - Johnnie Wooten Adams, 75, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Born in Hamlet, NC she was a daughter of the late Melvin L. Wooten, Sr. and Irene Biles Wooten. She enjoyed gardening and traveling (Las Vegas and Graceland). She loved spending time with her kids and family.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Adams and Mathew Adams both of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Teresa Tumasian of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Katie Tumasian, Kimberly Tumasian, 4 great grandchildren, brothers, Melvin Wooten, of Cheraw, SC, Tommy Wooten of FL and Bob Wooten of Cheraw, SC and a sister, Linda McDonald of Patrick, SC

The family received friends starting at 1:30 PM, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Gloria Dean McBride

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Gloria Dean McBride entered Heaven’s pearly gates on October 9, 2017.

Dean accepted Christ at an early age and has been a long-time member of Southview Baptist Church in Hope Mills, NC. Dean was retired after 27 years of service with Belk department store. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.

Dean was preceded in death by her husband, Harold McBride Sr.; her husband, Domingo Gallegos; and her daughter, Pamela Arbogast.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son and daughter in law, Harold and Eugenia McBride; her daughter, Elizabeth Propp; her grandchildren, Terry West, Michelle Fraser, Emilia McGarity, Heather Simmons, and Michael McBride; her great grandchildren Molly West, Troy Cashwell, Bailey Cashwell, and Emerson Claire McGarity; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Each has their own special memory of her, but all recall her strength, tenacity, stubbornness, kindness, and undying love for them. Dean blessed her family and friends with many valuable lessons during her time with them: put your faith in God, always be kind, work hard, there is no bad time for a cup of coffee, don’t be a bystander in life, actions speak louder than words, Elvis will always be king, friends are the family you choose, Whitman’s makes the best chocolate, and love unconditionally.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 12th, at the Patrick Baptist Church in Patrick, SC and followed immediately by burial at the Mt. Olive Methodist Church Cemetery in the Hunts Mill area of Chesterfield, SC.

The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday October 11th, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home in Chesterfield, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory (www.mmrl.edu).

Virginia Ruth McManus Miller

LANCASTER - Virginia Ruth McManus Miller, 81, passed away on October 9, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Mrs. Miller was born August 5, 1936 in Lancaster County, daughter of the late JB McManus and Grace Reeves McManus. She was the widow of Floyd “Buddy” Miller. Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Buford High School and was a former member of Sherwood Baptist Church where she enjoyed working with the Acteens and the GA’s. She was a current member of Springdell Baptist Church where she helped with the nursery. She was a foster parent for 35 years having impacted over 75 children and was the president of The Foster Parent Association of Lancaster. She loved to read her Bible and recipe books, enjoyed helping others, loved her family, and liked to do crossword puzzles.

Survivors of Mrs. Miller include her son, Jayson Paul Miller (Leericka) of Little Mountain, SC; daughters, Sheila Miller Adams (Mark) of Lancaster, Melanie Miller Griffith (Eric Boykin) of Chesterfield, SC, Janet Miller Roach (Robert) of Walhalla, SC, and Sherry Miller Hudson (Jimmy) of Lancaster; brother, Ray Von McManus (Doris) of Lancaster; grandchildren, Michele Allen (Bill), Caroline Hudson (Elizabeth Barrett), Emily Leaphart (Jason), Amy Viars (Andy), Allison Smith (Matthew), Shelly Catoe (Gerald), Jared White (Kayla), Haley Griffith, Abigail Griffith, Madison Griffith, and Belle Adams; great-grandchildren, Andrew Allen, Anna Beth Allen, Anson Allen, Alexandra Hudson-Willcox, Logan Leaphart, Grace Leaphart, Emma Viars, Garrett Viars, Lucas Smith, Suzanne Catoe, Bently Catoe, Wyatt Catoe, Emery White, Aubree White, Finley White, George Barrett, and Paul Barrett.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Alex Drew Leaphart; three brothers, J.P. McManus, Raymond McManus, and Pierce McManus, a sister, Doris McManus; and a son-in-law, Robert Griffith.

The family received friends on Wednesday, October 11 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at Springdell Baptist Church with a funeral service following at 2:00 pm in the church. Pastors Donald Tillman and Dean Casey will be officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Debra Ann Chapman Oxendine

SOCIETY HILL - Debra Ann Chapman Oxendine, 57, died Thursday, October 12, 2017. She was a daughter of the late Ronald E. and Grace Driggers Chapman. She was a 1978 graduate of Cheraw High School and attended Chesterfield Marlboro Technical College. She had 22 years of service at Galey and Lord/Klopman Mills. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, also her great niece Addison Shaw, great nephews Noah Shaw and Coit Chapman. She loved gardening and working with her flowers. When she became unable to be outside she stayed occupied with QVC and Facebook.

Surviving is her husband of 40 years Roger Oxendine of the home. Sons, Edward Bryan Chapman of Society Hill, SC, Roger (Josette) Oxendine, Jr. of Society Hill, SC, a sister, Rhonda (Theodore) C. Lindsey of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Alyssa Chapman, Journey Chapman, Talon Oxendine, Ronald Hyde, Ian Palmatier, great grandchildren, Alayah Hyde and Hayden Palmatier.

The family received friends beginning at 5:00 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at their home. A funeral service was held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Welsh Neck Baptist Church Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mildred Beatrice Funderburk Robinson

PAGELAND - Mildred Beatrice Funderburk Robinson, 79, died on Sunday, October 8, 2017. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3PM from the Flemming Funeral Chapel, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Flint Ridge Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Pageland, SC. She was born July 3, 1938 in Chesterfield County, SC to the late Azzie Lee Funderburk. Survivors: a daughter, Ramona Robinson (Randy), Cassatt, SC; a granddaughter, Latonya Myers (Terrence), Chesterfield, SC; two great grandchildren, Terriana Myers and Iraan Myers, both of Chesterfield, SC; a son-in-law, James E. Hillian, Chesterfield, SC; two special cousins, Pamela Melissa Funderburk and Uriah “Sam” Funderburk, both of Charlotte, NC. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .

Travis ‘Brother’ Adams Jr.

TUPELO, Miss. - Travis Graham Adams, Jr., 58, went to join his family in heaven on Thursday, September 28, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born August 18, 1959, to the late Travis and Ila Hudson Adams in Florence, South Carolina. Travis, or "Brother" as he was more affectionately known, was born with Down's Syndrome and immediately stole the hearts of everyone who knew him. Brother loved wrestling, Elvis Presley, hot shaves, watching TV, coloring, going out to eat, shooting pool, bowling, dancing and socializing with just about anyone who would take the time to talk to him. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

Visitation was from 4 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. A funeral service was held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, South Carolina.

Survivors include his sister, Phyllis McKoin (Jack) of Tupelo; extended family, Angel Harbin (Terry) of Tupelo and Samantha West (Matt) and their children of Mooreville; aunts, Lois Poole and Lillian Hudson Stubbs both of South Carolina and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Dana Lynn Adams Miller, parents and grandparents.

James Howard Driggers

CHERAW - James Howard Driggers, 67, of Bennettsville died on Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 3 PM in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Wallace, SC, directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

James was born in Marlboro County. He was the son of the late Howard Burch Driggers and Ethel Rainwater Driggers of Bennettsville. He had a daughter, Jill Driggers and son Jason Driggers of Bennettsville; and brothers, Jimmy E. (Teresa) Driggers of Charlotte, NC and Michael G. Driggers of Cheraw.

He was a graduate of Wallace High School. James was a pitcher on Wallace High State Baseball Champion Team. He was also on the Basketball Team. James was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also worked for ARA Food Service and Cheraw Yarn Mill until his retirement. James liked fishing and hunting along with raising vegetables to give to family and friends.

James Aluther Graham

HARTSVILLE - James Aluther Graham, 61, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 2PM from the Bethesda Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. He was born August 3, 1956 in Darlington, SC to Bessie Mae Lucas Graham and the late Jessie E. Graham. Survivors: two sons, Shauntel Bull, Florence, SC and Varick Bull, Darlington, SC; four grandchildren; his mother, Bessie Mae Graham, Society Hill, SC; three sisters, Thelma Ellerbe, Society Hill, SC, Katherine Peterson (Archie), Hartsville, SC and Kinshasa Gillespie, Darlington, SC; three brothers, Edward Graham (Betty), Bennettsville, SC, Jerry Graham (Diane), Hartsville, SC and Larry Graham, Society Hill, SC. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Cheraw. .
