CHERAW - Mr. Leroy Mumford, Jr., age 84, entered into rest on Monday, November 20, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Dr. Lindsey Powell and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Sunset Memorial Park of Bennettsville, SC. The family greeted friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Mumford was born January 12, 1933 in Marlboro County, a son of the late Leroy Mumford, Sr. and Daisy Pope Mumford. He was an employee Carolina Canners, Inc. in Cheraw, SC, for several years. Mr. Mumford was also a carpenter for many years. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and tinkering with his tractors.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by a son, William “Billy” Mumford, and a daughter, Brenda Kay Mumford; brother, William “Buddy” Mumford.
Survivors include 1 son, R.D. (Mary) Mumford of Chesterfield, SC; 1 daughter, Joyce A. (J.B.) Wood of Chesterfield, SC; 2 brothers, James Mumford of Bennettsville, SC and Richard (Linda) Mumford of Gibson, NC; 3 sisters, Eloise Oliver of Bennettsville, SC, Mary Frances (Tom) Atkinson of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Katie Gause of Bennettsville, SC; also 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

CHERAW - Mrs. Bernice Brock Rivers, age 89, entered into rest on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at her home. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Brock’s Mill Baptist Church by Rev. Donald Wallace, Jr. and Phillip Caulder, Jr. with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Norma Hemric, 2395 Orchard Road, Cheraw, SC 29520.
Mrs. Rivers was born in the Brock’s Mill community of Cheraw on March 19, 1928 a daughter of the late Squire Kirby and Ella Belle Liles Brock. She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Zoar High School. A member of Brock’s Mill Baptist Church, Bernice loved the Lord and her church. Her hobbies enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was also preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Homer Rivers; brother, Edward Brock; sisters, Ethel Britt, Ruth Brock, Mable Eisenschmid, Nora Morris, Bytha Campbell, and Margie Teal; 2 grandchildren, Rose Hemric and Kathryn Brigman.
Survivors include her son, Preston Rivers of Laurel Hill, NC; 3 daughters, Anita (Charlie) Ansell of Rocky Point, NC, Patricia (Mike) Brigman of Clio, SC, and Norma Gail Rivers (Dean) Hemric of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Tammy Hemric of Archdale, NC, Garry (Mary) Hemric of Thomasville, NC, Anthony (Alicia) Hemric of High Point, NC, Cheryl Hemric of High Point, NC, Malcolm (Michelle) Brigman of Bennettsville, SC, Bradley (Brooke) Brigman of Laurinburg, NC, Matthew McIntyre of NC, Patti (Michael) May of Wilmington, NC, Kimmy (Derek) DeSimone of Daytona Beach, FL, Ashley (Damien) Warren of Cheraw, SC; Christopher Rivers Huffman, Brittany Rivers Huffman of Laurel Hill, NC; and 14 great grandchildren and 2 on the way.

Daniel F. Thompson
HOLLY HILL- Daniel Franklin “Pop” Thompson, 82, husband of Barbara Turnage Hall Thompson, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 at Trident Hospital.
Funeral service was held at 11am Wednesday, November 22 at Avinger Funeral Home with Bob Kronyak officiating. Burial was at 1pm Friday, November 24 at the Florence National Cemetery with military honors. The family received friends from 5 pm until 7pm Tuesday, November 21 at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson was born in Whiteville, NC a son of the late Sadie Pope Thompson and Daniel Thompson. He was a retired truck driver, a Baptist, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Thompson was predeceased by a daughter, Pearl Mcghee; a son Paul Cartrette; and a brother, Joe Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of the home; daughters, Earlene “Sue” (Jim) Toth of Colorado Springs, CO and Meryl Stamp (Marvin) Staller of Holly Hill; a sister, Annette Davis of Whiteville, NC; and a number of grandchildren.

Andrew C. Baxter
CHERAW - Andrew C. Baxter, 63, died Thursday, November 16, 2017. Born in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Dilmus Candler and Margaret Seckinger Baxter. He was a graduate (and member of the Ag Club) of Berry College, Rome, GA. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, baseball, bicycling eating, fishing and cross country running. He loved spending time with his dogs, cats and fish.
Surviving is his wife, Lavenia “Levi” Bass Baxter of Cheraw, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and a sister, Cynthia Baxter Sears.

Susan Price Breisch
PAGELAND - Mrs. Susan Price Breisch, 53, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 while surrounded by her loving family.
Susan was born on September 18, 1964 in Monroe, North Carolina to the Wayne Price and the late Frances Evans Price. Growing up in the Pageland Community, Susan was a jack of all trades, being a renaissance of her time and an entrepreneur at heart. She was a cosmetologist for 33 years, the co-owner of City Slickers for 25 years, while also owning a couple daycares and restaurants. Susan’s outgoing “life of the party” personality made you feel as though you had known her all your life. She was headstrong and was the type of person who was charitable towards other. She put others before herself even if that meant doing without. Susan truly had a servant’s heart. She was an avid motorcyclist and an amazing cook. Susan was a member of Providence Baptist Church, growing up in the church in her younger days, she was there more than the Pastor was. Every time the doors were open you would find her there. She was a loving mother, she lived for her three children, two grandchildren, family, and friends and was extremely proud of them all. Susan made a big impact on the Pageland Community by serving on The Town Council for eight years, as well as, being a member of the Pageland Volunteer Fire Department, where she helped with the clean up after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Susan was a role model to the Town of Pageland and will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched during her time here with us. In addition to her mother, Susan is preceded in death by her brother, Scott Price.
Those left to celebrate and remember her life include her loving son, Kyle Strickland (Courtney) of Pageland, South Carolina; daughters, Farrah Strickland (Meredith Fant) of Orlando, Florida and Carly Strickland (Jeff Parker) of Pageland, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Olivia Strickland (Kyle) and Reeves Fant (Farrah); father, Wayne Price (Carolyn Gwin) of Pageland, South Carolina; brother, Shawn Price of Pageland, South Carolina; sister of the heart, Libby Moore (Rev. Tim) of Marshville, North Carolina; also one step-sister, Deanna Belk of Pageland, South Carolina.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Jimmy Lee Hoyle
WILLOW SPRING, N.C. - Jimmy Lee Hoyle, 64, passed away Tuesday November 15, 2017. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Saturday November 18, 2017 at Benson Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Cashwell officiating. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife; Brenda Bass Hoyle, son; Jeremy Lee Johnson and wife Lea, daughters; Misty Michelle Johnson, Crystal Leigh Langston and her husband Jonathan, sisters; Ann Hostettler, Phyllis Johnson and Sadie Murphy, grandchild; Noah Ray Langston.
The family received friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service from 10 until 11:00am at the church. Arrangements are with McLaurin Funeral Home, Clayton, N.C.
Thomas E. Lovorn
Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Lovorn, 79, of Petersburg, VA, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cell Roane Lovorn, Sr. and Myrtle Iris Parker Lovorn. Rev. Dr. Lovorn retired after 19 years as pastor of Monumental Baptist Church, he then completed interim work before assuming the pastoral position at God’s Storehouse Baptist Church, where he had been serving the community for the last 8 years. His career included pastoring churches in Mississippi, Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina. He attended Mississippi College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Luther Rice Seminary to complete his Doctorate degree. He served on the Board of Directors for the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf and was a professor with Rockbridge Seminary for many years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janie Johnson Lovorn; daughter, Christy Stawarz and husband, John; four grandchildren, J.T. Stawarz, Micah Stawarz, Christopher Stawarz and Michaela Stawarz; brother, C. Roane Lovorn, Jr; two nephews; and many extended family and friends.
A funeral service was held at Monumental Baptist Church, 2925 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M.
Interment followed in Blandford Cemetery.
The family received friends at the church for 2 hours prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.

Flovelia ‘Flo’ Spease Outen
CHERAW - Flovelia “Flo” Spease Outen, 87, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017. She was born July 16, 1930 to Clarence Carrigan and Susan Toler Spease. She was retired from J.P. Stevens with twenty-seven years of employment.
Flo was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Kinsey Mulloy Bible Class, United Methodist Women and the Joy Club. She was a loving wife of 70 years and a compassionate mother and grandmother. She was known for making the best deviled eggs. Flo enjoyed visiting shut-ins, playing “dominos” and “Bridge” with close friends, and spending time outside. Her beautiful smile and compassionate soul will be greatly missed.
Flow is survived by her husband, Ellison Outen of Cheraw, SC, a son, Jimmy (Jenny) Outen of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Ginger O. (Bill) Caughman of Batesburg-Leesville, SC, grandchildren, Mikki MacCheyne of Concord, NC, Cynthia (Brady) Vannoy of Daniel Island, SC, Will (Erin) Caughman of Smyrna, GA, Lauren Outen of Richmond, VA, great grandchildren, Catherine MacCheyne and Julia MacCheyne of Concord, NC, Rob Vannoy of Daniel Island, SC, Mark and Elizabeth Caughman of Smyrna, GA and a brother, Bill (Frances) Spease of Darlington, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above, also, a brother, Hollis Spease and a sister, Cynthia Spease.

Kenneth Ray Pruitt
CHERAW - Mr. Kenneth Ray Pruitt, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 18, 2017, at Carolinas Hospital in Florence, SC. Mr. Pruitt was 57 years
old.
Born September 26, 1960, he was a son of the late Tommy Eugene and Minnie Lee Pate Pruitt. Kenneth was a graduate of the class of 1979 from Bennettsville High School and worked as a machinist at INA Bearing in Cheraw, SC, for the past four years.
Kenneth was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR on Sundays, especially back when his favorite driver, Darrell Waltrip, was racing.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, listed above.
He is survived by his brother, Mark Pruitt of Lake City, SC; sister, Rhoda McGill of Bennettsville, SC; nieces, Heather Pruitt of Wallace, SC, and Angelica Caulder of Gainesville, Fla.; step-sister, Irene Crist of Tampa, Fla.; and ex-wife, Tammy Dixon of Florence, SC.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday November 20, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville, with Rev. Carroll Bazen officiating. The family received friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Malcolm Lee ‘Mack’ Tolson
PATRICK - Mr. Malcolm Lee “Mack” Tolson, age 71, entered into rest on Friday, November 17, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Donald Wallace, Jr. with burial following in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, November 20, 2017 at the funeral home.
Mr. Tolson was born September 10, 1946 in Hartsville, SC a son of the late William Edward and Lillian Perdue Tolson. He was a retired employee of NAPA Auto Parts with 23 years of service and a member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. A U.S. Army Veteran, Mack loved his country, his God, and his family. He enjoyed working in his yard, and his greatest passion was spending time with the love of his life, his 6 year- old grandson, Christian Scott Still.
In addition to his parents, Mack was also preceded in death by his brothers, W.M. Tolson, James Lyde Tolson; and sister-in-law, Betty Tolson; infant niece, Sandra Tolson; nephew, Mike Tolson.
Survivors include his children, Abby Leigh (Chris) Still of N. Augusta, SC, Anna Paige Paul of Cheraw, SC; grandson, Christian Scott Still; Companion and Close Friend, Gail Paul of the home; brothers, John E. Tolson of N. Carolina, Eugene (Linda) Tolson of Patrick, SC; sister, Grace Annetta Tolson of Cheraw; also 13 nieces and nephews.
