CHESTERFIELD - Isaac J. McFarlan, Sr., 71, died on Monday, October 16, 2017. Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 3PM from the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, Chesterfield, SC. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. He was born December 18, 1945 in Chesterfield County, SC to the late Dan and Emma B. McFarlan. Survivors: his wife, Gloria J. McFarlan; children, Isaac J. McFarlan, Jr. (Sonja), Ivan K. McFarlan, Sr. (Allison), both of Blythewood, SC, Joshua Ellerbe, Monroe, NC and Kelsey Ellerbe, Dalzell, SC; a sister, Iris Lee Chapman, Charlotte, NC; a brother, Dan McFarlan (Edith), Hartly, DE; five grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield. .

Lori G. Mills

MARSHVILLE, N.C. - Lori G. Mills, 55, passed away on October the 24th, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Mecklenburg Co., on May the 1st, 1962 to Ted and Peggy Thomas Gaddy. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School as well as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. She retired from Anson County Schools after 29 years as a Chemistry Teacher.
She was preceded in death by her father Mr. William Ted Gaddy, her paternal grandparents Tyler and Eunice Gaddy and her maternal grandparents Lee and Maggie Lou Thomas.
Graveside Services were held at 2pm Friday the 27th of October, 2017 in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Peggy Thomas Gaddy of Marshville. Her sister Lisa Gaddy Davis and her husband Jim of Monroe. Her nieces: Krysta Davis Cearley and her husband Russ of Charlotte and Karla Elizabeth Davis of Nashville, Tenn. Her great-nephew Greyson William Cearley and her great-niece Reagan Elizabeth Cearley. She is also survived by her longtime friend Terry Drye and her faithful dog “BB”.

Dillon Gerrald "Jerry" Turner Sr.

CHERAW - Dillon Gerrald "Jerry" Turner, Sr., 84, died Thursday, October, 26, 2017. Born in Marion County (Rains), SC, he was a son of the late Henry Clark and Ina Eulee Gerrald Turner. He was a 1951 graduate of Rains High School and attended Wofford College. Mr. Turner retired in 1991 from Southern Bell Telephone Company with 38 years of service. Upon his retirement he received Life membership in the Telephone Pioneers of America and he regularly attended meetings in Florence, SC. He had 26 years of service in the South Carolina National Guard, from which he retired in 1977. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC. In the church he served in many capacities as member and/or chair of the Trustees, Staff-Parrish Relations, Building, Nominations, and Family Life Committees. He was formerly President of the United Methodist Men and was a vital part of the annual United Methodist BBQ for many years. Mr. Turner was also a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was awarded Father of the Year Award by the United Methodist Women and also was a recipient of the Roy Smith Humanitarian Award presented by the Mission Ministry Team. In the 1970’s, he began his involvement in the Boy Scouts of America (Troop 655) and became more actively involved especially during his years of retirement, serving as Troop Committee Chairman. He received the Silver Beaver Award (2000) from the Pee Dee Area Council and the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow (2002) and District Award of Merit (2002). Numerous Scouts received Eagle Scout recognition because of the influential help and assistance of Mr. Turner, which brought him great joy and honor. Just within the last week he had helped a recent recipient. Along with his wife, he enjoyed gardening and yardwork and was been awarded “Yard of the Month” by the Four Seasons Garden Club. Mr. Turner was an avid Gamecock fan and a supporter of Cheraw High School Athletics. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and church member. He was described as “loyal to his family, loyal to his church and loyal to his friends.”

He is survived by his adoring wife Patricia “Trish” Morgan Turner (51 years of marriage) of the home; a son, Dillon “Gerrald” Turner, Jr. and his devoted girlfriend Lib Owen, Chesterfield, SC; a daughter, Shannon (Jeffery) Johnson and only grandchild, Kathryn Johnson, of McFarlan, NC; sisters, Marilyn Faust of Virginia Beach, VA, Ralley Sue Shirley of Taylors, SC and Mary Beth Tanck of Lexington, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, and also brothers, Randolph Turner, William Turner and sisters, Minnie Evelyn Turner and Joretta Turner.

The family received friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 in First United Methodist Church Fellowship Building. A funeral service was held 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at First United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Arthur Thomas ‘Tom’ Wilkerson

PATRICK - Mr. Arthur Thomas “Tom” Wilkerson, age 78, entered into rest on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his home. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Bay Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Julian Cato with burial following in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Wilkerson was born December 9, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Arthur and Omie Gooden Wilkerson. He was a retired employee of Chesterfield County Department of Transportation with over 25 years of service and a member of Refuge Baptist Church. Tom enjoyed watching wrestling, going to flea markets and yard sales, and always had an eye for a deal. He was a man who enjoyed being in nature, from going to the mountains to taking a drive in the country, or simply sitting on the porch.

In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by his sisters, Melba Shephard, and Ruby Lee Wilkerson; 2 grandchildren, Terri Jean Avant and Logan Nicholas Avant.

Survivors include his children, Teresa (Michael) Joplin of Chesterfield, SC, Sheila (Shorty Cribb) Avant of Hemingway, SC, Crystal (Adam) Tolson of Patrick, SC, Mike Bess of Pageland, SC, and Lisa (Eddie) Gibson of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Geno (Summer) Avant of Florence, SC, Daisey Tolson, and Matt Tolson both of Patrick, SC, Haley Bess, and Austin Bess both of McBee, SC, and Logan Gibson of Hartsville, SC; great grandchild, Garrett Matthew Avant; brothers, William “Bill” (Vernie) Wilkerson of Cheraw, SC, Bobby (Sue) Wilkerson of Cheraw, SC; brother-in-law, Freddie Shephard of Patrick, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

WALLACE - Mathew Benjamin Barnard, 46, died Friday, December 22, 2017. Born in Marion, SC, he was a son of Debbie Holme Barnard and the late James Lawrence Barnard. He was a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole Barnard of Richmond, IN, his mother Debbie Holme Barnard of CA, an aunt, Carole Barnard LeBel of Wallace, SC, and cousins, Sherry Turner, Bobby LeBel, Tracy LeBel, Dawn Parris, and Barbara (Jimmy) Hill.

Marvel ‘Mickey’ Bittle

CHESTERFIELD - Marvel “Mickey” Bittle, 62, died on Saturday, December 23, 2017. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2PM from the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Chesterfield, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born November 30, 1955 in Chesterfield, SC to the late James and Rosa Lee Richardson Bittle. Survivors: a sister, Mary Ingram (Bobby), Cheraw, SC; two brothers, Henry Lee Bittle and William Bennett, both of Chesterfield, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield. .

William Wesley ‘Honey’ Dixon

SOCIETY HILL - William Wesley “Honey” Dixon, 72, died Friday December 29, 2017. He was a son of the late William George and Lena Mae Atkinson Dixon. Mr. Dixon was married to his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Freeman Dixon, for 51 years. He enjoyed working in his yard, sitting on the front porch, watching westerns and wrestling, and playing with his grand and great grandchildren.

Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife listed above, sons Chris Dixon of Society Hill, SC, James Dixon of Society Hill, SC, Phillip (Lynn) Dixon of McBee, SC, daughters Teresa (Eric, Sr.) Sweat of Society Hill, SC, Robin (Thomas) Tyner of Society Hill, SC, brothers George (Anne) Dixon, Jr, of Camden, SC, Jimmy Eugene Dixon of El Paso, TX, Marion (Jenny) Dixon of Cheraw, SC, sister Katherine (Robert) Hammonds of Pageland, SC, special nieces Stacie Knotts of Hartsville, SC and Kristie Dixon of Society Hill, SC, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren with 2 on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above.

The family received friends 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday December 31, 2017 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday January 1, 2018 at the Church of God, Society Hill, SC. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

Tracy Warren Dotson Sr.

CHESTERFIELD - Tracy Warren Dotson was the son of the late Oliver Thomas and Elizabeth Mary (Bessie Mae) Evans Dotson. He was born in Spokane, Washington, on January 12, 1933. He was the youngest of ten children and preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Oliver Thomas, Jr. (Elsa Lowery), Walsh Evans (Hildaguard), Bessie Ford, Ella Juanita (Joseph Clarke), Emry Myron (Bettye Wampler), Lenore Oakla (Charles Mohr), Anna Marie (Board), Adrian Ervin (Ruth Wilson), and an infant sister.

Tracy graduated from Chesterfield South Carolina High School in 1951. He worked at Delta, in Cheraw, SC, during the summer of 1951. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1951, and served as a 1st Class Aviation Electronics Technician. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He married Margaret L. Collins, from Chesterfield, SC, in 1956. They were married at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC.

Tracy is survived by Margaret, his wife of 61 years; three sons: Tracy Warren, Jr. (Lorraine Gaye Penny) — Asheville, NC, Nathan Trent — Arlington, VA, and Stephen Wayne (Michele Williamson) — Mint Hill, NC; and five grandchildren: Bradan Page (Allison), Galen Kane, Parker Gray, Austin Connor and Stephanie Michele.

Tracy was hired by IBM in February 1955 as a Customer Engineer in their Time Recording Division, in Charlotte, NC. In 1959, he moved to Lexington, Kentucky as an Associate Engineer in the Electric Typewriter Division. In 1964, he transferred to the Research Triangle Park, near Raleigh, NC and as a Staff Engineer in the Reliability, Availability & Serviceability (RAS) Department, for IBM Store Systems, where he retired as Senior Manager, in 1990.

Tracy and Margaret lived in Cary, NC for 27 years and following retirement, moved back to Chesterfield, SC in 1993.

Tracy was very active in the Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry as Senior Warden at St. Gabriel’s The Archangel in Lexington, KY and St. Paul’s in Cary, NC. After moving back to SC, he again became a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church, in Cheraw, SC and then the Cheraw Episcopal Worship Group.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, while his sons were in the Scouts, and served as Scout Master for Troup 201, sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cary, NC. Tracy was a Mason and a member of The American Legion and the Chesterfield Service Club.

Tracy’s hobbies included restoring old automobiles, remodeling and building additions to his various homes over the years — including the restoration of their antebellum Austin-Craig-Laney House, in Chesterfield — and he was an avid reader.

Tracy will be buried, near his parents, at Old St. David’s Cemetery, in Cheraw SC following a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cheraw Episcopal Worship Group (Outreach), c/o Phil Powell, 230 3rd Street, Cheraw, SC 29520 or to the Old St. David’s Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1196, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Fred Marvin Eddins

MT. CROGHAN - Mr. Fred Marvin Eddins, age 73, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017. Graveside Services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Eastview Cemetery, Wadesboro, NC, by Rev. Ed Butler. The family received friends 5:00 – 7:00 PM Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, 318 E. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC.

Fred was born January 22, 1944, in Anson County, NC, a son of the late Fred Linwood and Elizabeth Meachum Eddins. He was a drill sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a retired sales manager for Moorman Manufacturing.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Eddins was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Hildreth.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Ramsey Eddins and wife, Tanya Avery Eddins; his grandsons, Brandon Ramsey Eddins and Avery Calhoun Eddins, all of Rembert, SC; his brother, Harvey Eddins (Joyce) of Burlington, NC; his sisters, Myrtle Wall (Bill) of Lilesville, NC and Helen Lail (Ralph) of Wadesboro, NC; his nieces and nephews and their families.

Mary Lou Walters Eddins

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Mary Lou Walters Eddins, age 70, entered into rest on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Thursday, December 28, 2017 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Phillip Caulder, Jr. and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Westfield Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Eddins was born March 19, 1947 in Darlington, SC a daughter of the late James Edward and Celia Atkinson Walters. She was a 1965 Honor graduate of McBee High School and received her Early Childhood Diploma in 2007 while caring for her terminally ill husband. A retired textile worker, Mary Lou worked with Dan River for over 10 years and Chesterfield Manufacturing for 10 years, and was a member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church. She was a dedicated homemaker at heart, and enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to sharing her cornflakes with Michael each morning.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was also preceded in death by her husbands, Tony Moore and Aubrey Eddins; siblings, Sarah W. Barefoot, Linda W. Outlaw, Dale Walters, William “Buddy” Walters, and Eugene Walters; son, James W. “Jimbo” Eddins; and grandson, P D Roberts.

Survivors include her children, Anthony Shane Moore (Debbie) of Cassatt SC, Bradford Eugene Moore (Michelle) of Lancaster, SC, Teresa Dawn Self of Kershaw, SC, Dale Lynn Cheek (Leroy) of Chesterfield, SC, Teresa Carol Preston of Wallace, SC, and Danny Ray Eddins (Deanna) of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Drew Moore, and Brook Moore both of Cassatt, SC, Brittany Moore of Kershaw, SC, Brandon Moore of Lancaster, SC, Tommy Key (Staci) of Cassatt, SC, Crystal Roberts of Florence, SC, Gary Roberts, Jr. of Kershaw, SC, James Roberts of Columbia, SC, Tiffany Roberts of Maysville, SC, Lorina Cheek of Bennettsville, SC, Audrey Cheek, Krista Cheek, Madalin Cheek, Leroy Cheek, IV, Michael Butler, Bradley Graham, Danna Eddins, and Brandon Eddins all of Chesterfield, SC; great grandchildren, Melody, Brooklyn, Gavin, Gabriel, Laylah, Isabella, Jaden, Ivy, Leilani, Tommy Jr, Harmony, Andrew, Nicholas, Katie Lynn, Oaklyn, and Lucas; brother, Maxie Walters of Effingham, SC; and special family members, Steve & Ruth Press of Chesterfield, SC and their children, Kayleigh and Kaeden.

Margie Autry Evans

PAGELAND - Mrs. Margie Autry Evans, 86, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017.

Margie was born on November 12, 1931 in Marshville, North Carolina to the late Charlie Autry and Lovetta Taylor Autry. She later met and united in marriage to the late Billy Evans. Margie assisted her husband in the Watermelon Business, as well as, being the owner and operator of Evans Grocery. She also worked as a seamstress for many years. Margie was always on the go, but when she was home she loved to talk on the telephone and watch TV. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and cross stitch. She was also a very good record keeper. She also enjoyed cheering for her Carolina Panthers in which she was an avid fan. Margie loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful and lifelong member of Philadelphia Baptist Church where she held numerous positions throughout the years there, including the historian of the church. Margie loved her Lord and her church family dearly, they always held a special place in her heart.

Those left to celebrate and remember her life include her loving daughters, Peggy Smith (Butch) of Marshville, North Carolina, Deborah Sullivan (Donald) of Pageland, South Carolina, and Teresa Eudy (Tony) of Marshville, North Carolina; sisters, Dale Evans (Marvin) of Marshville, North Carolina, Loree Evans (Max) of Pageland, South Carolina, Lavonne Floyd (Paul) of Marshville, North Carolina, and Bonnie Newland of Marshville, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Michelle Simpson, Kelly Baker, Jonathan Mills, Meghan Threatt, Michael Sullivan and Jennifer Helms; four step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; special friend, Sam Funderburk Sr.; also numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Pastor Carroll Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Baumgartner Funeral Home, 708 West McGregor Street, Pageland, South Carolina 29728.

William ‘Al’ Alton Graham

CHESTERFIELD - William “Al” Alton Graham, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 11, 2017 in Columbia, SC. He was 44 years old.

Born March 17, 1973 in Bennettsville, he was the son of the late Aline Graham Wilson. He received a BS degree in political science and sociology from Francis Marion University, and was employed as a mill technician team leader with Domtar Paper Mill. Mr. Graham was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Cheraw. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, watching his son Shane play baseball, and was an avid Clemson Tiger fan.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Leigh Wright Graham; his daughter Emma Logan Graham; two sons, William Austin Graham and Shane Turner Graham, all of Chesterfield; and a special aunt, Elsie Graham of Bennettsville.

He was preceded in death by his mother listed above.

A funeral service was held 2:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2017 at Burroughs Funeral Home with Rev. Steve West officiating, followed by burial in Sunset Memorial Park. The family received friends from 1-2 pm, just prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, 7100 Forest Point, Charlotte, NC, 28217, or to a charity of one’s choice.
