CHERAW - Mrs. Geraldine "Dean" Adams Brasington, age 62, entered into rest on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Phillip Caulder, Jr. with burial following in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at Dean's home, 88 Oakdale Road, Cheraw, SC.

Mrs. Brasington was born November 27, 1955 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of Hannah Funderburk Adams and the late Jerry Adams. She was an employee of Hendley & Associates of Cheraw and a former employee of Chesterfield Manufacturing. Dean was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and shopping.

In addition to her father, Dean was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew E. “Gene” Brasington, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Michael Knight.

Survivors include her mother, Hannah Lou Adams of Cheraw, SC; brother, Tommy Adams of Chesterfield, SC; sisters, Jackie Adams Knight of Lugoff, SC and Kathy Adams (Stephen) Tarlton of Ruby, SC; 2 special nieces, Kellie Knight of Lugoff, SC and Kassi Tarlton of Ruby, SC; 3 special nephews, Brian Adams of Mexico, Matthew Adams of Chapin, SC, and Cory Adams of Chesterfield, SC; and her beloved pet, “Dixie.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paws and Claws, P.O. Box 386, Chesterfield, SC 29709 or the Chesterfield County Animal Shelter, 436 Goodale Road, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Mary Beth Robeson Freeman

CHERAW - Mrs. Mary Beth Robeson Freeman, age 79, entered into rest on Friday, January 12, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Zoar United Methodist Church by Pastor Ryan Powell and Phillip Caulder, Jr. with inurnment to follow in the church cemetery. The family receives friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Freeman was born July 22, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Leon Barton “Bub” and Maggie Lee Streater Robeson. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and a faithful member of Zoar United Methodist Church. Mary Beth was a dedicated worker in the church serving on various committees throughout the years including the U.M.W. and was instrumental in founding the Senior lunches. A lady involved in her community and civic organizations, Mary Beth served on the Cheraw Town Council for 12 years before being elected to the SC House of Representatives where she served two terms. She was a member of the Cheravian Club, Kiwanis Club, former board member of Chesterfield General Hospital and the Camp Sandhill Board, and was awarded The Order of the Palmetto by Governor Mark Sanford in 2004.

In her younger years, Mary Beth enjoyed playing tennis, basketball and watching sports. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of the Wednesday evening Bridge Club for the past 50 years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Freeman was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Preston Randolph “Bud’ Freeman, Sr; son, Preston Randolph “Randy” Freeman, Jr.; and brother, Willis Ford “Bill” Robeson.

Survivors include her daughter, Betsy (Greg) Roumillat of Summerville, SC; sisters, Rachel R. King of Chesterfield, SC, Rebecca R. Burch of Jefferson, SC, and Helen R. Moore of McLeansville, NC; sisters-in-law, Peggy D. Robeson of Chesterfield, SC, Betty Freeman of Rock Hill, SC, Annelle F. Teal of Chesterfield, SC, and Sylvia (Bob) Campbell – Cline of Cheraw, SC.

Wayne Howard Hendrix Sr.

WALLACE - Wayne Howard Hendrix, Sr., 71, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Born in Bennettsville, SC he was a son of the late James Edmond and Ida Lee Brigman Hendrix. Wayne worked many years at Bud Motor Company in Cheraw until going into his own car detailing business, where he continued to work until he became disabled in the early 90’s. He was very handy with his hands and could fix anything. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his family dearly.

The family received friends 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018 at True Gospel Emmanuel Holiness Church, Wallace, SC. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Surviving is his wife of nearly 47 years, Betty Hendrix, their three children, Wayne (Shannon) “Howard” Hendrix, Jr., Michael Hendrix and Amy Hendrix Holden all of Wallace, SC, six grandchildren, John Wayne Hendrix, Brandon (Briah) Hendrix, Joshua and Hannah Hendrix. John Howard “Cujo” Dial and Noah Holden, great grandchild, Emma, sisters, Loretta Southernland of Travelers Rest, SC, Hilda Rae Hood, Gloria Jean Hutchinson, Mary Lee Bradshaw and Gaye Hubbard all of Bennettsville, SC.

Memorials may be made to: McLeod Hospice or Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Frances Anne Bryant Parker

SOCIETY HILL - Frances Anne Bryant Parker, 77, died Thursday, January 11, 2018. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late James Henry Bryant, Sr. and Hallie Gertrude Riley Bryant. She was the widow of George H. “Bogon” Parker, Sr. She was an avid history buff. She loved painting pictures, loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grands.

Surviving is her son, Eugene (Lisa) Parker of Hartsville, SC, a daughter, Cindy Anne Parker (Mike) Noel of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Kaitlyn Parker, Morgan Parker, Jade (David) Johnson, Mica (Travis) Dowdy, great grandchildren, Holden Wayne Dowdy and Sadie Grace Johnson. Also, two ladies that were very dear to Mrs. Parker, Renee Brown and Karen Floyd.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, a son, George H. Parker, Jr., brothers, James Henry Bryant, Jr., Rufus Bryant and Jerry Bryant.

The family received friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, SC.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.

Laura Mae Sellers

CHESTERFIELD - Ms. Laura Mae Sellers, age 79, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 3:30 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Hopewell Baptist Church by Pastor Phil Wyatt and Brent Taylor with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, January 12, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Ms. Sellers was born April 12, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Hardy R. Sellers, Sr. and Agnes Gaskins Sellers. She began her working career at Hageman’s Dime Store just after graduation from Chesterfield High School and later worked and retired from Chesterfield Manufacturing. She was a faithful and lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she enjoyed years of working with the young people, from teaching Children’s Sunday school, to assisting with the GA’s and Acteens. She loved the years she spent teaching Bible School and was equally loved by all the children of Hopewell and very deeply loved by all her cousins’ children. She enjoyed visiting the beach and spent many vacations there with her close friend, Grace Sellers. She also loved the Senior Trips she took with her close friends from Hopewell.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her beloved guardians, Robert Paul, Sr. and Elizabeth G. Sellers, (her uncle and aunt) and by her maternal grandparents, Jesse N. and Laura Gaskins.

She is survived by her loving brother and caregiver, Hardy R. Sellers, Jr. and by all her cousins and their families.

Henry Allen ‘Buster’ Shaw Jr.

WALLACE - Henry Allen “Buster” Shaw, Jr., 86, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Born in Wallace, SC on May 13, 1931, he was a son of the late Henry Allen Shaw, Sr. and Betty Quick Shaw. He was the widower of Jessie “Phyllis” Shaw. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR racing, and he loved his many dogs he had over the years.

Surviving are his, sons, James “Jimmy” Shaw of Wallace, SC, Jerry (Twila) Lee Shaw of Wallace, SC, Tommy (Cathy) Shaw of Rockingham, NC, Randy (Tracy) Shaw of Rockingham, NC, a daughter, Sarah (Mike) Carter of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Betty Lucille “Susie” Shaw of Cheraw, SC, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, also brothers, James Edward Shaw, Willie Preston “Jadie” Shaw, Merley Leroy Shaw, Franklin Roosevelt Shaw.

Louise M. Shaw

CHERAW - Mrs. Louise M. Shaw, age 83, entered into rest on Friday, January 12, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Dr. Steve West and Phillip Caulder, Jr. with burial following in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shaw was born April 17, 1934 in Yancey County, NC a daughter of the late John Thad and Maude Young McCurry. She was a graduate of Micaville High School and a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church. A devoted Christian lady, Louise served the Lord faithfully through the years as a former children’s Sunday school teacher, a member of the bereavement meals committee, and sang in the adult choir.

In addition to her parents, Louise was also preceded in death by her brother, Max McCurry.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 57 years, Jack L. Shaw of the home; 1 son, Rodney Lee (Lynn) Shaw of N. Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Brittany and Nick; great grandchildren, Gracie Lynn, Ryleigh, and Alaina; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nelson Skinner, Jr.

Nelson Skinner, Jr. was born in Charleston, South Carolina on November 25, 1944 to the late Nelson Skinner, Sr. and Anna White Skinner. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, he peacefully entered eternal rest at Georgetown Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

Nelson, affectionately known as "Fat",¯ was educated in the public schools of Georgetown County. After thirty years of dedicated service, he retired from Georgetown Steel Mill as a Crane Operator.

At an early age, Nelson joined Sandhill Freewill Baptist Church in Hemingway, South Carolina.

Nelson was formally married to Vidella Bromell Skinner. He later married Otha Rice Skinner, who preceded him in death.

Nelson enjoyed farming, taking care of people in the community, and talking on the telephone. He loved to spend time with his beloved sister, Blondelle Deas and his brother-in-law, Ervin Deas. He would often be found with his best friends Deacon Joe Weaver, John Coles, Quincy Moore and Mr. Froster. Above all, Nelson loved sharing special moments his children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his two sons, Malcolm Skinner of Columbia, SC, and Glenn (Christine) Skinner of Murrells Inlet, SC; five daughters, Lorna (Michael) Greene of Conway, SC, Annie (Jeffery) Cokely of Georgetown, SC , Angelina "Big Red"¯ Skinner of Georgetown, SC, Marthena (Kevin) Greene of Atlanta, GA, Kecia "Big Mama"¯ Smalls of Georgetown, SC , Wanda (Wesley) Williams of Georiga , and Shevis (Timothy) Bryant of Georgetown, SC; two brothers, Tyrone (Hottest) Skinner of Georgetown, SC and Sidney Skinner of Hemingway, SC; three sisters, Betty Jacobs, Deloris Brown, Blondelle (Ervin) Deas all of Georgetown, SC; two aunts, Mary White of Georgetown, SC, and Lucille Skinner of Detroit, MI; thirty-three grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives who will miss him dearly.

Bessie Mae Driggers Teal

WALLACE - Mrs. Bessie Mae Driggers Teal, age 76, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 11, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Phillip Caulder, Jr., Brent Taylor, and the eulogy was delivered by Gloria Lewis with burial following in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends immediately following the committal service and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Teal was born May 13, 1941 in Wallace, NC a daughter of the late Harden and Meater Kelly Driggers. She was a graduate of Wallace High School and retired employee of Delta Mills with 41 years of service. Mrs. Teal was a life-long member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Bessie Mae enjoyed shopping, traveling, and going on cruises.

In addition to her parents, Bessie Mae was also preceded in death by her brother, Allen Fred Driggers.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, James M. Teal of the home; sister-in-law, Patsy K. Driggers of Wallace, SC; Niece, Myra Driggers Levine and husband, Bobby of Murrells Inlet, SC; great nephew, Austin Smith; and great-great niece, Callie Marie Smith.

The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Teal was born February 14, 1932 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late John and Dele Odom Lewis. She was a retired employee of Chesterfield Webbing with over 40 years of service. A former member of Bay Springs Baptist Church, Betty Jo enjoyed working in her yard, and freezing and canning vegetables from her garden.

In addition to her parents, Betty Jo was also preceded in death by her husband, Baxter Teal; brother, John Robert Lewis; sister, Kathryn Lewis Teal Fulton; and special nephew, David William Teal.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Teal (Steve) Treadaway of Patrick, SC; brothers, Billy Lewis of Chesterfield, SC and Jerry (Cathy) Lewis of Cheraw, SC; 2 grandchildren, Scotty (Nicole) Treadaway of Ft. Mill, SC, and Ian Webber of Patrick, SC; 2 great grandchildren, Madalyn and Brayden; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

William Frank Driggers

CHERAW - Mr. William Frank Driggers, age 86, entered into rest on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Monday, January 8, 2018 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church by Pastor John Howle and Pastor Donnie Driggers with burial following in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Driggers was born in Wallace, SC a son of the late Frank and Lena Quick Driggers. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Cheraw Masonic Lodge #15. Frank was a retired employee of CSX Railroad with 35 years of service and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. A man with a quick sense of humor and always a smile, Frank enjoyed talking with people and making new friends. He enjoyed woodworking and “tinkering” on small engines as he was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-It”.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Driggers was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Driggers Moore.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 40 years, Barbara B. Driggers of the home; sons, Marty (Tammy) Shaw, and Scott Shaw both of Chesterfield, SC; daughter of the heart, Missy Shaw of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; grandson, Cam Shaw of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughters, Mary Lynn Woodward and Brandi (Gene) Jordan both of Chesterfield, SC; niece, Mary Inda (Jim) Dozier of Bishopville, SC; also his beloved pets, “Westie”, “Zane”, and “Midnite” and his beloved grand-dog, “June”.
