SOCIETY HILL - Patricia Joyce English, 72, died Sunday, January 07, 2018. Born in Chesterfield County she was a daughter of the late Curtis Monroe Chapman and Edna L. Atkinson Chapman and the widow of Wayne English. She was a member of Thomas Memorial Church. She was active in church and participated in different organizations.
Surviving are her sons, Marty English of Bishopville, SC, Robbie English of Bishopville, SC, daughters, Jackie Crowley of Patrick, SC, Patti Norris of Society Hill, SC, grandchildren, Chandler English, Sunny Norris, Brayden English, Gage English, Mason English and a sister, Carolyn Griggs of Jefferson City, MO.
The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Albert Allen Haire
WALLACE - Albert Allen Haire, 61, died Sunday, January 07, 2018. Born in Marlboro County he was a son of the late Alton James Haire, Jr. and Mary Taylor Haire. He attended White’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are his sons, Allen Haire of Wallace, SC, Scottie Haire of Cheraw, SC, brother Alton (Brenda) Haire of Laurinburg, NC, a sister, Sylvia Diane Haire of Wallace SC, also two grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents listed above, a brother, Richard “Cricket” Danny Haire, sisters, Brenda H. Floyd and Mary Elizabeth H. Johnson.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at White’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church, Wallace SC.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, January 11, 2018 at White’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church, Wallace SC. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ronald Edward ‘Ronnie’ Hall
CHERAW - Mr. Ronald Edward “Ronnie” Hall, age 63, entered into rest on January 5, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Jason Pope, Rev. Kyle Oliver, and Brent Taylor with burial following in the church cemetery with masonic rites. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, January 8, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1486 Hinson Hill Rd, Cheraw, SC.
Mr. Hall was born April 19, 1954 in Wadesboro, NC a son of the late Otis Wilson and Mary Frances Gulledge Hall. He was a retired employee of Chesterfield County with 25 years of service as a law enforcement/correctional officer and a former employee of Burlington Industries. Ronnie was a charter member of the BWZ Brotherhood, the Brock’s Mill Rural Fire Department, and a member of Cheraw Masonic Lodge # 15. He was also a member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church where he previously served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, building and grounds committee member, and adult choir member.
Mr. Hall was married to the love of his life, Carol, for over 38 years. A great conversationalist and story teller Ronnie loved people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his best friend, Ned. His greatest delight was was being Papa to Madeline, Samuel, and Chandler. He also loved being the “bus driver” for Redeemed & Rejoicing.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was also preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell, Larry, and Mike Hall; sister, Nancy Ellen Hall Sports; nephews, Dwayne Hall, Donald Mauldin, and David Braddock; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard Rudolph Lee and LouRoue S. Lee who loved him as a son.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Carol Lee Hall of the home; son, Rodney William (Teresa Moser) Hall of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Madeline Elizabeth Hall, Samuel William Hall, and Chandler Lee Hall; 2 brothers, Randy Hall of Pageland, SC and Chris Hall of Bennettsville, SC; 4 sisters, Elaine Hall (Steve) Moree of Morven, NC, Eleanor “Ellie” Hall (Howell) Mauldin, Bonnie Hall Braddock both of Tignall, GA, Lucille “Lucy” Hall (Howard) Mauldin of Harvey, LA; brother-in-law, Richard R. “Ricky” Lee, Jr and wife, Pam; nephews and nieces, William (Lisa) Skipper, Richard R. “Trey” Lee, Courtney Elizabeth Lee, Jennifer (Richard) Gaddy, Jessica (Kyle) Oliver, Cody Hall, Kevin Hall, Kristen Hall, Brandon Jenkins, Tom Mauldin, Darlene Breaux, and Angela Hall Mauldin; best friend, Ned Hinson and wife, Jane of Cheraw, SC; special family friends, John and Lynn Sullivan, Marc, Ashley & Quinton Goldberg, and Kaleb Cassidy; and his fur babies, Summer, Sparky, and Trixie.

Charles Reid Jackson Sr.
COLUMBIA - Charles Reid Jackson, Sr., retired businessman, died on Friday January 5, 2018 at his home at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community in West Columbia, SC. Mr. Jackson was born April 15, 1937, the first of three children of Harold Dean Jackson, Sr. and Mary Charles Rivers Jackson.
Mr. Jackson grew up in Cheraw, SC. He graduated from Cheraw High School in 1955 and the University of South Carolina in 1959, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served with the Air National Guard from 1959 until 1964, including a year of active duty in the United States Air Force from 1961 through 1962.
Mr. Jackson was associated with Jackson Oil Company in Cheraw for many years. He was active in industry affairs, a past president of the South Carolina Oil Marketers Association, and a former board member of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America. He was a former member of the board of directors of the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce. Governor Richard W. Riley appointed Mr. Jackson to a term on the South Carolina State Development Board (South Carolina Department of Commerce).
Mr. Jackson was active in civic affairs in Cheraw and was a past president of Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, Cheraw Kiwanis Club, and Cheraw United Fund. He was elected mayor of Cheraw in 1973 to fill an unexpired term of Mayor Miller S. Ingram, Sr. Mr. Jackson was re-elected to a full term two years later and served as mayor until 1980.
Surviving are his wife, Coles Cathcart Jackson of Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, West Columbia, SC, three children, a daughter, Coles Jackson Lawton and her husband, Dr. Joseph James Lawton, III of Columbia, SC, a son, Charles Reid Jackson, Jr., and his wife, Gracyn Streater Jackson, of Cheraw, SC, and a daughter, Alice Jackson Fort, and her husband, George Hamlet Tatum Fort, of Hartsville, SC and eight grandchildren: Coles Heyward Lawton, Louisa DuBose Dwight Lawton, Joseph James Lawton, IV, Charles Reid Jackson, III, Campbell Heyward Jackson, George Hamlet Tatum Fort, Jr., Alice Findley Dean Fort and Sarah Boykin Heyward Fort. Mr. Jackson is also survived by a sister, Jane Jackson Avinger and her husband, Dr. Robert L. Avinger, Jr. of Davidson, NC and a brother, Harold Dean Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Amy Generelly Jackson, of Lubec, Maine and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Monday evening, January 8th, from four until six o’clock at the Guignard Mansion at Still Hopes. Memorial services for Mr. Jackson were held on Tuesday, January 9th, at three o’clock at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Columbia, SC. A graveside burial service will be held in Cheraw, SC at Old Saint David’s Episcopal Church Cemetery on Wednesday, January 10th, at two o’clock.

Sylvia Curtis McGee
CHERAW - Mrs. Sylvia Curtis McGee, age 80, entered into rest on January 4, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 7, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by the Honorable Rev. Richie Yow and Rev. Mike Williams with burial following in the David’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. McGee was born September 26, 1937 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Legett Roland and Lena Tucker Curtis. Sylvia, along with her husband, was the owner and operator of Pee Dee Pallet & Repair. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. McGee enjoyed working in her yard, traveling and camping at Ocean Lakes, and spending time with her beloved husband.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Willie David McGee; 2 brothers, Julian and Larry Curtis; and sister-in-law, Jean Curtis.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia McGee Haynes of Cheraw, SC; 2 sons, David Wayne McGee of Cheraw, SC, and Robert Lynn (Karen) McGee of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Taylor and Zachary Haynes of Cheraw, SC, and Hillary and Ryan McGee of Lexington, SC; brother, Bill Curtis of Chesterfield, SC; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Curtis of Ruby, SC and Shelby Jean Curtis of Chesterfield, SC; also numerous nieces and nephews.

CHESTERFIELD - Delmar Jay Potter, 58, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Born in Westchester, PA he was a son of Rosie Marie Lloyd Potter of West Grove, PA and the late J. C. Potter. He was a master craftsman with his hands and enjoyed making positive changes to things that were drab. He loved riding his motorcycle and was a member of Keystone Crusaders for Christ. He loved his dogs.
Surviving is his wife, Glenda Gail Potter of Chesterfield, SC, sons, Brock Potter of Darlington, SC, Jay Potter of Bethune, SC, daughters, Rebecca (Benji) Galloway of Bethune, SC, Mary Ann Potter of Chesterfield, SC, his mother listed above, brothers, Jack Potter of Nottingham, PA, Jimmie Potter of Parksburg, PA, sisters Daren Hillman of Elkin, MD, Martha Bowling of Oates, SC, also 9 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father listed above and a sister Deb Reeves.

Franklin Wayne Rabon
PATRICK - SSG (Ret) Franklin Wayne Rabon, SCNG, age 61, entered into rest on Friday, December 29, 2017 at his home. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 4, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Tim Cox, Tim Ebbs, and Alvin Tolson with burial following in the Patrick Cemetery with full military honors. The family received friends from 6:00 -8:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Rabon was born January 18, 1956 in Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late Franklin Rudolph and Shirley Perdue Rabon. He was a retired Staff Sergeant with the S.C. Army National Guard with 22 years of service. Wayne was employed with INA USA as an electrician and was a former employee of Carolina Packaging. He was a member of Patrick Baptist Church and a proud member of the PGA (Patrick Golf Association). An avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan, Wayne enjoyed golfing and riding his Harley. He dearly loved his family and would always reassure them of that each time he talked to them.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was also preceded in death by 1 sister, Alma Jean McDowell; and 1 brother, Bert Kendall Rabon.
Survivors include his children, Franklin Douglas Rabon and wife Casey, and Lanaia R. Wood and husband Charles all of Lexington, SC; 3 grandsons, Colby, Hunter, and Brandon; 3 sisters, Margo (Rev. Tim) Cox, Locket (Tim) Ebbs both of Loris, SC, and Millie (Terry) Prince of Tabor City, NC; also numerous nieces and nephews.

WALLACE - Thelma Quick Rainwater, 95, died Sunday, January 7, 2018. Born in Bennettsville, SC was a daughter of the late Roland V. and Katy Cox Quick. She was the widow of Wallace George Rainwater. She was a member of White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Wallace, SC. She was an avid wrestling fan. Mrs. Rainwater enjoyed gardening, cooking and lending a helping hand. She loved her church and family dearly. She was known lovingly to all in the community as “Granny.”
Surviving are her sons, John W. (Joyce) Rainwater, Richard W. (Ann) Rainwater all of Wallace, SC, Carolyn Perhealth of Wallace, SC, Joanette (Richard) Sinclair of Rockingham, NC, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, a son, Danny L. Rainwater, a son-in-law, Wayne Perhealth, brothers, Luther Quick, Harrison Quick, sisters, Minnie Rainwater, Donnie Sweat, Mamie Monroe and Mildred Cox.

James Oscar Taylor Jr.
MT. CROGHAN - Colonel James Oscar Taylor, Jr. celebrated a lively 98th birthday on New Year's Eve 2017 and entered his heavenly home on New Year's Day 2018. Colonel Taylor was a fourth-generation native of Mt. Croghan, SC born on December 31, 1919 to James Oscar Taylor, Sr. and Lucy Jordan Taylor. His father, J.O. Taylor, Sr. was an accomplished farmer and President of the Local Bank in Mt. Croghan. He was the son of Franklin Pearce Taylor - a local merchant, Judge and Distinguished Member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and an original signer of the South Carolina State Constitution. His father was James H. Taylor who sold his plantation in Columbia, SC to the State of South Carolina where the State Capital stands today and settled in Mt. Croghan, S.C in 1786. Col. Taylor's mother, Lucy Jordan Taylor was a very accomplished lady of her day with two Bachelor degrees at the age of 17. She then acquired a music degree from Juilliard School of Music. Lucy Taylor was the daughter of Henry H. Jordan and Annie Sellers Jordan of Saxapahaw, N.C.
The Colonel was adored by the people who knew him and loved by all his family. He is survived by his second wife of 12 years Janie Kirkley Taylor (Cheraw S.C), (first wife, Carolyn Nicholson Taylor -deceased), son James O. Taylor, III and wife Debra Watson Taylor (Mt. Croghan. SC), daughter Carolyn Rose Laney and husband Dr. Paul Sherwood Laney (Mt. Croghan, SC), grandchildren: James O. Taylor, IV (Atlanta, GA), Natalie Rose Taylor (Mt. Croghan, SC) and partner Kimberly Shaw Baucom, Jordan Wilson Laney, wife Katie and great-grandson Grayson Porter Laney (Anderson, SC), and Curtis Jackson Laney (Charlotte, NC) as well as an adoring contingent of nieces and nephews.
Colonel Taylor lived an extraordinary life and has impacted thousands of people's lives ... one at a time. To encounter the Colonel just once became a memorable event. He was a farmer/ rancher (800 head of breeding stock), an accomplished pilot (mastered 38 different aircraft), Mayor of Mt. Croghan, SC for 20 years, Director of Chesterfield/Marlboro County Economic Development Agency, Co-founder of Chesterfield Rural Water Company (Board Member-30 years), a member of the National Space Society and International Planetary Societies, and a Full Colonel and Command Pilot in the USAF (30 years of service.) Colonel Taylor saw military action in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War earning the Soldiers Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Service Award and The Commendation Medal. Col. Taylor graduated from Clemson University with B.S. degrees in both Agriculture and Aeronautics (Class of 1941). He subsequently graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master’s degree in Business and Accounting, the Old West Point of the Air, Army Corps for Pilots, Air Command and Staff College, Federal Staff College, and Industrial College of the Armed Services. He was a true patriot with a pedigree of integrity, honesty and heart.
Col. Taylor was a joy to be around, well versed on almost any subject. He had a dry humor that would catch you off-guard and always brought out the best of any audience ... one person at a time. You never had any doubt the Colonel was delighted to see you. He was an Ambassador of Joy to everyone he encountered. Colonel Taylor was worldly, distinguished, honorable, humble, kind, extremely generous and very wise. He will be sorely missed by a large community that loved him.
A Celebration of Life Service for Col. James Oscar Taylor, Jr. was held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Mt. Croghan United Methodist Church by Rev. Sonny Hall, Rev. Kyle Henderson, Dr. Alan Arnold, and the eulogy delivered by his son, James O. Taylor, III. The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, 318 E. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC.

Ola Rae Tucker
RAEFORD, N.C. - Mrs. Ola Rae Tucker of Raeford died January 5, 2018 at Hope Mills Retirement Center at the age of 85.
Mrs. Tucker was born February 24, 1932 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late John and Pearl Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Tucker. Mrs. Tucker was a member of Raeford United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son Jerry L. Tucker and his wife Julia Anne of Cheraw, SC: three daughters, Teresa T. Frahm and husband Reginald of Raeford, Suzanne T. Ramsey and husband Edward of Fayetteville, and Cassandra T. Bunnels and husband Mitchell of Raleigh. 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family received friends from 3:00 until 4:00 pm Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 North Main Street. Raeford.
A memorial service was held 4:00 pm Sunday, Raeford United Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Wingo officiating.

James Alfred Geaves Beales III
LAURINBURG, N.C. - James Alfred Geaves Beales, III, 94, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Morrison Manor.
A memorial service was held by the family at 11:00 am Saturday, March 24, 2018, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC officiated by the Rev. William D. Oldland.
Born October 2, 1923, in Fairfield County, CT, he was a son of the late James Alfred Geaves Beales, Jr. and Helen Cornelius Beales. He retired from Prudential Securities in Philadelphia PA where he served as Vice President of Investments. Mr. Beales was also a professional writer and wrote a weekly column for the Cheraw Chronicle.
He is survived by one daughter, Diane Beales Lobaugh of Baroda, MI; sons, Jefferson Davis Beales of Bethlehem, PA and Jonathan T. Beales of Atlanta GA; sister, Mary Beales Bradberry of NH; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife. Margaret Haskins Beales.
