CHERAW - Steven C. Bilby, 71, died Sunday, March 25, 2018. Born in Kokomo, IN, he was the son of the late Omer Phillip and Hazelene Rivers Bilby. He was a US Marine Veteran. Mr. Bilby was owner of Bilby Construction.
Surviving is his wife Donna M. Bilby of Cheraw, SC, a son, Scott Bilby of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Shannon (Kevin) Vogel of Novato, CA, a sister, Libby Knight of Cheraw, SC, a grandchild, Taylor Vogel, a nephew, John (Aya) Knight and a niece, Jennifer (Tommy) Troskoski.
The family received friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Billie Moore Mackey
CARTHAGE, N.C. - Ms. Billie Moore Mackey, age 82, former commissioner and mayor of Carthage passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday at Carthage United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Jim Bolyard. Burial followed at Cross Hill cemetery. Following the service there was a reception in the Sinclair House next door to the church.
A native of Chesterfield, SC she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Gladys Cole Moore. Billie graduated from Columbia College with a B.S. degree and taught school in Richland County for 12 years. In 1972 she moved to Carthage where she joined her mother as co-owner of The Billie-Fran Shoppe (ladies apparel business) until 1992.
Billie became active in politics paving the way for women in local government. She was the first female town commissioner in Carthage where she served five terms. She then served four terms as the first female mayor of Carthage. While serving as mayor she did many good things for the town including, but not limited to helping establish the annual Buggy Festival, and organized the Carthage bicentennial celebration in 1996 which carried on for a full two years. She was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Merchants Association, the Carthage Appearance Committee, first female member of the Rotary Club of Carthage, as well as many other civic and local community groups.
In 1997 she assisted in the founding of the Dispute Settlement Center of Moore County, Inc. and served as it’s executive director until her retirement.
Billie loved Carthage and was proud of all she was able to accomplish with the help of others, but above all she was most proud of the fact that she raised three boys as a single mother while working and serving our community.
She was preceded in death by her sister Frances Sullivan.
She is survived by her three sons Bill Mackey and wife Lisa of Carthage, Clay Mackey of Florida, Chris Mackey and wife Rhonda of Sanford; niece Harriet Riley of Siler City; grandchildren Cole, Tristin, Ian, Lily, Wyatt Mackey, Jake Verrett and John Garrison.
The family received friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday.

Jean Reece Tucker
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - Jean Reece Tucker, 83, died March 20, 2018, at Brookdale Morehead City after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Mrs. Tucker was born June 24, 1934, in Chesterfield County, S.C., only child of the late Olyn and Arminta Hammond Reece of Cheraw, S.C. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Guy V. Tucker of Morehead City; two daughters, Lynn S. Carlson and husband Eric of Ocean Isle Beach and Brenda S. Tudor and husband Dave of Asheville; a grandson, Patrick McGowan of Black Mountain; and many dear friends in Carteret County and in Cheraw, S.C.
Mrs. Tucker had been a resident of Morehead City for 35 years, first at The Bluffs and later in the Brandywine community before becoming a resident of Brookdale in 2015. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cheraw, S.C., where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir for many years. An accomplished artist, she painted in watercolors and oils, played piano and guitar and was a talented needlework artist. Prior to her retirement, she had served as an administrative assistant at Cheraw Elementary School and later had a career as a graphic artist at The Cheraw Chronicle newspaper.
Visitation was held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Burial was in Old St. David’s Cemetery in Cheraw, S.C., at a later date.
The family would like to express deepest gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living for their devoted and compassionate care of Mrs. Tucker.

Connie ‘CB’ Adams
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Connie “CB’ Adams, 67, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2PM from Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, Jefferson, SC. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. He was born May 30, 1950 in Chesterfield County, SC to the late Amos William and Alice Wright Adams. Survivors: his wife, Enice Adams; a son, Rontal Edgeworth, Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Mikayla and Rontal Edgeworth, Jr.; four stepsons; Cassius Alexander, Diego Alexander, Ronald Sanders, Lataj Parker; seven step grandchildren, four sisters, Evelyn Raley, Maize Baker, Charlotte, NC, Truelove Baker, Pageland, SC and Barbara (Ervin) Seegars, Jefferson, SC; three brothers, Jessie Adams, Bill (Albertina) Adams and Nathaniel Adams all of Jefferson, SC. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .
Gilbert Lee Demby
JEFFERSON - Mr. Gilbert Lee Demby, age 56, entered into rest on Friday, March 16, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2018 at Almetta Baptist Church by Pastor Thomas Thacker and Pastor Michael Thompson with burial following in the church cemetery with military honors. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Monday prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.
Mr. Demby was born November 26, 1961 in Chesterfield, SC a son of Paul and Margie Oliver Demby. He was a former employee of Jefferson Auto Parts with over 20 years of service and a member of the S.C. Army National Guard. Lee was a member of Almetta Baptist Church where he served as former deacon and former church treasurer. An avid outdoorsman, Lee enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his greatest pastime was spending time with his family. A loving son, husband, father, and grandfather, he will be remembered as a “friend to all”. Mr. Demby was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike Cook, and mother-in-law, Georgia Lee Autry.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Patricia L. Demby of the home; children, Michael (Luz) Thompson of Rock Hill, SC and Bryan Thompson of Kershaw, SC; parents, Paul and Margie Demby of Jefferson, SC; grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, and Julie Thompson; siblings, Paula (Michael) Polk of Monroe, NC, Phyllis (Robbie) Deese of Rutherfordton, NC; Barbie (Randy) Gordon of Pageland, SC, Brenda (Mark) Sullivan, and Christina Demby Cook both of Jefferson, SC; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda Crawley Dixon
PATRICK - Ms. Wanda Crawley Dixon, age 68, entered into rest on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Lower Macedonia Baptist Church by Dr. Lindsay Powell and Rev. John L. Melton, III with burial following in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 3:30 – 5:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
Ms. Dixon was born January 29, 1950 in Monroe, NC a daughter of Will Frank “Hank” Crawley and the late Bonnie Rae Griffin Crawley. She was a 1968 graduate of Chesterfield High School and attained her associate’s degree from Chesterfield – Marlboro TEC. She was a former employee of Chesterfield General Hospital and retired from Cheraw Healthcare as a Medical Records Clerk. A faithful member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church, Wanda served on the cemetery committee, the bereavement committee, and as church historian for many years.
Ms. Dixon enjoyed researching genealogy and helping others with family history. She volunteered of her time at the Chesterfield Genealogical Society and the Woodmen of the World Youth Camp. Wanda was a lady who will be remembered for her efforts to always help others and those trademark hugs that she greeted everyone with.
In addition to her mother, Ms. Dixon was also preceded in death by her former husband, Ray Dixon.
Survivors include her children, Bridget (Bobby) Wilkerson, and Shirley Ann Gibson both of Patrick, SC; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Dawson, Heather, James, and Tyler; great grandchild, Madison; father, Hank (Mary Lou) Crawley of Chesterfield, SC; brothers, Will Arthur “Art” (Dorothy) Crawley of Emporia, VA, and Wayne (Deena) Burr of Lugoff, SC; sister, Elaine C. (Joe) Rogers of Patrick, SC; also numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews whom she loved very much.

Flora Belle Sellers Huntley
CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Flora Belle Sellers Huntley, age 89, entered into rest on Friday, March 16, 2018. Funeral Services were held 4:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Hopewell Baptist Church by Pastor Phil Wyatt and Rev. Dan Austin with burial following in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Mrs. Huntley was born December 1, 1928 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Harmon and Eula Jeanette Adams Sellers. A retired employee of Sacony Industries, Flora Belle was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she served as church historian, former Sunday school teacher, church association representative, member of the W.M.U., and various other committees throughout the years. She enjoyed reading, history, and researching genealogy. Flora Belle enjoyed talking and never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Huntley was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Huntley; grandson, Will Huntley; and 4 brothers, William, Thomas, Steven, and Charles Sellers.
Survivors include her 2 children, Keith (Beth) Huntley, and Faye (Rickey) Williams both of Chesterfield, SC; great granddaughter, Aubree Huntley and her mother, Erin Huntley of Pittsburgh, PA; sister, Ann Ratliff of Chattanooga, TN; also numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Embrace Hospice, Dr. Travis Novinger and staff of Palmetto Family Medicine, and her dedicated caregivers, Jennie Wallace, Maureen “Moe” Zwiefka, and Glenda Lisenby.

Frank Edward Nicholson
MT. CROGHAN – Mr. Frank Edward Nicholson, age 87, entered into rest on Friday, March 16, 2018 at his home. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Center Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Charles Terry and Rev. Rodney Nicholson with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Nicholson was born November 28, 1930 in Mt. Croghan, SC a son of the late Ross E. and Dezzie Summerford Nicholson. In his early years, Frank enjoyed farming prior to being the owner and operator of Nicholson’s Garage in Mt. Croghan. A faithful member of Center Grove Baptist Church, Frank served as a Deacon and was a member of the cemetery committee. He enjoyed drag racing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nicholson was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Honeycutt Nicholson; daughter, Peggy N. Jones; son, Eddie Nicholson, Jr.; sisters, Annie “Ann” Campbell, Muriel N. Boan, and Elsie N. Cooper; and by his brother, Mack “Coy” Nicholson.
Survivors include his sons, Marty A. (Amy) Nicholson of Kershaw, SC, and Mike H. Nicholson of Mt. Croghan, SC; daughter, Betty N. (Randy) Knight of Mt. Croghan, SC; 4 grandchildren, Dan “Tan” Nicholson, Sandy N. (Carey) Reid, Tina Gaddy, and Madison P. Jones; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy N. “Dot” Wilkerson of Ruby, SC; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Peggy Eddins Leonard
CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Peggy Eddins Leonard, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Presbyterian Community Home in Clinton, SC.
Funeral services were held at 3:00PM Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Long Pine United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Marbry officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00PM.
Born June 13, 1941, Peggy was a daughter of the late Peter Raymond Eddins and Carrie Gaddy Eddins. She graduated from Deep Creek High School and from cosmetology school in Greensboro. She first worked with Mabel Horne in her beauty shop and later for a few years at Glenn Mfg. in Morven. Eventually she went to work for Weller Wire Wrap (Cooper) where she stayed for 27 years until her retirement.
Peggy was a faithful member of Long Pine United Methodist Church where she attended until her health failed. She was married to Ervin Leonard who died in 2003.
Survivors include a son, John Leonard (Julie) of Laurens, SC; one grandson, Jeremy Leonard; a sister, Betty Davis of Florence, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Leonard in 2010 as well as her brothers, Robert, James, Gene, Marcus and E.C. Eddins; and sisters, Ruth Eddins, Lib Pratt, Dot Wilkes, Louise Scott, and Corrine Ricketts.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Long Pine UMC Cemetery Fund, c/o Kay Jones, 351 Hannah Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.

PAGELAND - Johnnie Miller, 78, died on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1PM from Word of Life Fellowship Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Pageland, SC. He was born June 3, 1939 to the late Jerry Miller and Roberta Robinson Miller. Survivors: wife, Wilhelmenia Miller; children, Willa Blakeney and son-in-law, Hampson Blakeney, Mildred Smith and son-in-law, Daniel Smith, Johnnie Miller, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Tammy Miller; siblings, Willie Jo Miller, Shirley Little, Geraldine Miller, Joseph Miller, Eddie Dean Miller, Anthony Miller, and sister-in-law Phyllis Miller; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland. .
