ROCKINGHAM - Sarah Adeimy Branham, 90, died, Saturday, February 24, 2018. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late Namtalla David and Mary Estelle Stowe Adeimy and the widow of John W. Branham. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cheraw, SC and St. James Catholic Church, Hamlet, NC.
Surviving is her son-in-law, Ben (Mary Anna) Davis of Rockingham, NC, a sister, Marie A. Smith of Mobile, AL, a grandson, Ryan S. Davis of Rockingham, NC, also, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, a daughter, Theresa B. Davis, also several brothers and sisters.
A funeral mass was held 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Burial was in Old St. David’s Cemetery.
Flora H. Bryant
SOCIETY HILL - Flora H. Bryant, 84, died Friday, February 23, 2018. Born in Marlboro County she was a daughter of the late Stonewall and Shirley Ventris Hudson and the widow of Glenn Bryant, Sr. She was retired from Chesterfield General Hospital and had close to 20 years of Health Care Service. She was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church for almost 50 years and at one time was part of the bus ministry. She was known for her legendary 12-layer cakes. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is her son, Andy (Laura) Kirby of Society Hill, SC, daughters, Kathy Shoemake of Society Hill, SC, Jo Ann (Randy) Warr of Cheraw, SC, a daughter-in-law, Angie Bryant of Society Hill, SC, a sister, Shirley Ann Bryant of Society Hill, SC, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above, sons Harold Bryant, Donald Gene Kirby, June Bug Bryant, a daughter, Mia Bryant, a son-in-law, Richard Shoemake, a brother, Clyde Hudson, Sr. and a sister, Carolyn Hudson.
The family received friends 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Welsh Neck Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC.
A funeral service was held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Welsh Neck Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC.

Tammy Q. Carter
CHERAW - Mrs. Tammy Q. Carter, age 58, entered into rest on Monday, February 19, 2018. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Pat Tucker with burial following in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carter was born November 7, 1959 in Marshall, AK a daughter of the late Bobby Ray and Lenora Holliman Quick. She was a former RN supervisor with Chesterfield and Marlboro Counties Dialysis and enjoyed attending church at Holy Inheritance. A lady who loved being outdoors, Tammy enjoyed gardening, cooking, and riding her motorcycle.
In addition to her parents, Tammy was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim W. Carter; and brother-in-law, Garrett Morris.
Survivors include her daughter, Misty (Leslie) Riggan of Murrell’s Inlet, SC; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kaleb Riggan; 2 sisters, Debbie Morris, and Amanda (Adam) Robbins both of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Carroll Eugene ‘Gene’ Freeman
SOCIETY HILL - Carroll Eugene “Gene” Freeman, 29, died Friday, February 23, 2018. Born in Altamonte, FL he was a son of Carroll (Billie) Freeman of Society Hill, SC and Cheryl Rivers of Hamlet, NC. He enjoyed movies, video games and Carolina Football. He loved his bulldogs and his Chihuahua.
Surviving are his parents listed above, a brother, David “Bo” (Kim) Freeman of Kissimmee, FL, a sister, Julie (Jay) Keith of Camden, SC, a maternal paternal great grandmother, Ruth Clark, nephews, John Freeman, Will Keith, a niece, Amber (Chris) Andrews, a great nephew, Christopher Andrews, many aunts and uncles, and a host of friends. Also, Camrey Harold and Austin Harold.
The family received friends 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
Regina Ann Bost Gabr
CHERAW - Regina Ann Bost Gabr, 47, born July 21, 1970, passed away on February 18, 2018, at the home of her parents after a three-month illness. Regina was born in Concord, North Carolina, but moved to the Cheraw, S.C., area at a very young age. She graduated from Cheraw High School. She worked for more than 20 years at The Country Kitchen. She made many friends over the years and was known for her heart of gold and smile. No matter the mood, she always had that smile and helpful disposition. She would do anything for anyone in need. She had a heart for the older generation, babies, and the downtrodden. She is survived by her father and mother, Kenneth and Bonnie Long of Wallace, S.C. She was a wonderful mother to her only son, Anthony David Bost of Patrick, S.C. She is also survived by two brothers, Richard (Melissa) Bost of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Ken Long Jr. of Wallace, S.C., a sister, Michelle Bost Mason (Andy Mason), of Callaway, VA. She has many nieces and nephews she adored, William Dillon, Hunter Sloan, Daniel Sloan, Richard (Haley) Bost Jr., Breah Long, and Ayden Long. I would like to give a special thanks to Dianne Driggers; her best friend, that was always like a second mom to her. They were both each other’s rock in hard times. Regina will be missed but never forgotten; she touched so many lives. RIP my sweet girl till we all see you again!
A memorial service was held at the Anointed Word Ministry, 397 Moffat Road in Cheraw, S.C. at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. All close friends and family were invited to come and remember our sweet girl.
Lendoria Sowell Johnson
JEFFERSON - Lendoria Sowell Johnson, 67, died on Saturday, February 17, 2018. A memorial service was held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 3PM from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Cheraw, SC. She was born January 1, 1952 in Jefferson, SC to the late Lloyd Sowell, Sr. and Thelma Scarborough Sowell. Survivors: her husband, Wilbert Johnson; a son, Jeremie Johnson (Camille); six sisters: Bessie Donald, Cecilia Blackwell, Bertha Bowman (Lemuel), Dorothy Wright (Bobby), Yolanda Wright (Roger) and Arnetta Funderburk (Ervin). Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield. .
Arthur William Player
CLAYTON, N.C. - Arthur William Player, also called Art and Billy, 78 years old, of Clayton, NC, was called to his Heavenly Father on January 25, 2018 as a result of an extended battle with Alzheimer Disease. He was born the youngest of five on January 10, 1940, in Wilson, NC, to Charles Robert and Adele Matthews Player.
Art graduated from Central High School in Elizabeth City, NC in 1958. He served in the US Coast Guard. In 1959, Art met his loving wife Eloise Ruckman of Pocahontas County, WV. They were married on April 7, 1961, in Washington, DC, where they met.
Art began his career with the US Postal Service in Raleigh, NC, in 1966, as a Postal Clerk. He worked in Wilmington, NC, before becoming Postmaster in Johnsonville, SC, in 1978. He later was promoted to Postmaster, Hemingway, SC, in 1980, and Postmaster, Cheraw, SC, in 1985. He served as President, National League of Postmasters, SC Branch for several years and was voted National League of Postmasters, SC Branch Postmaster of the Year in 1984. He retired with 26 years of service in 1992.
Art and Eloise loved to travel. During their journey through life together, they visited all 50 states. During his 26 years of retirement, he traveled with Eloise to over 60 countries.
Art is survived by his wife, Eloise, and his 3 daughters, Donna Brown, Rhonda Abernethy and Pamela Player, 7 grandchildren: Stephanie Brown, David Jackson, II, Heather Smith, Nadia Ruelas, Rachel Burnham, Gabriel Ruelas, and Jennifer Abernethy, and 2 great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Collins and Serena Ruelas. Sister, Glenda Phillips of Laurenburg and Brother, Charles R Player Jr, of Union Bridge, MD, Sister-in-law Diane Player, brother-in-law Harry Harris and 15 nieces and nephews, all of whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sister Carolyn Bruce and Sister Shirley Harris.
He loved to do things with and for his family. He will be remembered for his willingness to go the extra mile no matter how hard it was.
The family received friends on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 7-9pm at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. Funeral Services were held at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home in Wilson on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 2:00pm with interment following at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Believers Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1133, Clayton, NC 27528.

Barbara Curtis Tucker
CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Barbara Curtis Tucker, age 71, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at her home. Funeral Services were held at 4:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2018 at Pine Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Phillips and Phillip Caulder, Jr. with burial following in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Tucker was born November 19, 1946, in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late William David and Doris Lera Moore Curtis. She was a former employee of Curtis Mini-Mart with over 24 years of service. A faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Barbara was a former choir member and was active in the W.M.U. She enjoyed working in her flowers and quiet time watching birds.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband, Barks Dale Tucker, Jr.; 2 brothers, David Legrand Curtis, and Donald William Curtis; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hunter; nephew, Chad Curtis; niece, Dana Curtis McLaurin; and great nephew, Philip McLaurin.
Survivors include her children, Richard “Rick” David Tucker, and Vicki T. (Dean) Brantley both of Chesterfield, SC; 1 granddaughter, Kinsey Grace Brantley; sister, Anita C. Hunter; sisters-in-law, Rachel Curtis and Trena Curtis both of Chesterfield, SC; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, “Muffin”.

Mary Alice Williams
RUBY - Mrs. Mary Alice Williams, age 71, entered into rest on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Graveside Services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery by Brent Taylor. The family greeted friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Williams was born April 14, 1946 in Bennettsville, SC a daughter of the late Belvin and Catherine Herndon Cope. She was a former employee of Cheraw Yarn Mills and attended Douglas Mill Baptist Church. She enjoyed housekeeping, gardening, and cooking.
In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was also preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Cope; sister, Virginia Pruitt; and son, Michael Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Jr. Williams of Ruby, SC; step-sons, Terry (Tammy) Williams of Ruby, SC, and Tommy (Jenny) Williams of Kannapolis, NC; 6 grandchildren, Tommy (Brittany) Williams, Brittany (Kendell) Wingler, and Abigail Williams all of Kannapolis, NC, Cole Webster, Hunter Williams, and Christian Williams all of Ruby, SC; brother, James Harold (Judy) Cope of San Antonio, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.

CHESTERFIELD - Rev. Charlie Young, 84, died on Sunday, February 18, 2018. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2PM from the Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. He was born July 3, 1933 in Darlington County, SC to the late Isaac and Mary Jackson Young. Survivors; five children, Loretta Massleino, Jacqueline Wallace, Theresa Evans, all of Camden, SC, Charles Young, Sr. (Yvette), Bowie, MD and Karen Young, Bridgeport, CT; a twin brother, Rev. Samuel J. Young (Mary Jean), Hartsville, SC; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield.
