Mrs. Mamie G. Salley Jenkins

The funeral for Mrs. Mamie G. Salley Jenkins, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Emanuel AME Church, with the Rev. William Washington Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Jenkins died Wednesday, Oct. 1 at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, following an extended illness.

She was born on May 5, 1932, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Elex Salley and the late Mrs. Hattie Mae Salley. She was educated in the Orangeburg County Public Schools. She was a member of Emanuel AME Church. She was employed by Quincy Family Steak House and Western Sizzler Steak House. She retired in 1993.

Surviving are three sons, John David Salley of Orangeburg, SFC Jody (Annetta) Salley of Alexandria, Va., Clarence (Tammy) Jenkins Jr. of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Sandra (Freddie) Dixon of Orangeburg, Janice J. Glover of Orangeburg; one sister, Mrs. Evelener S. Dixon of Orangeburg; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Majorie Agieson, Mrs. Dorothy P. Salley, Mrs. Eartha S. James, Mrs. Margaret R. Jenkins, all of Orangeburg; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Evans of New Jersey, Jerry Huggins Jr. of Cope; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Glover's Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

John L. Gilmore -- Santee

John L. Gilmore, 55, of 168 Harvard Lane, Santee, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.

Funeral plans will be announced by Williams Funeral Home of Elloree.

Friends may call at the residence of Kathy Gilmore, 146 Harvard Lane, Santee, and at the funeral home.

Carlyle J. Bolin -- North

Mr. Carlyle J. Bolin, 77, of 875 Iva Road, North, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Springfield Cemetery with Rev. Ellis "Cook" Addy officiating.

Pallbearers will be Royce McLester, Rickey Bolin, Larry Bolin, Danny Bolin, Luther Bolin, Owen Bolin and O'Neal Bolin.

Mr. Bolin was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Jessie R. and Lula Williams Bolin. He was retired from Fort Jackson Civil Service; had worked for Orangeburg County; Army veteran of World War II; was a Mason; member of Corinth Baptist Church and attended King Grove Baptiet Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Iva Williams Bolin of North; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (Sandy) Reed of Orangeburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald C. Bolin of Neeses, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Carolyn) Bolin and Mr. and Mrs. Farrell (Debbie) Bolin, all of North; granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Philip (Robin) Smith of Cope; grandsons, Mr. and Mrs. Trey (Wendy) Reed of Lexington, Wesley Bolin and Jeffrey Bolin both of Neeses, Dusten Bolin of North and Rocky Reed of Orangeburg; great-granddaughters, Tori Smith of Cope and Janie Reed of Lexington; stepgranddaughter, Erica Davis of Pelion; stepgrandson, Royce McClester of North; brother, John J. Bolin of North; sisters, Rosa Mae Jenkins of Adrian, Mich., Ruby Jay of Toledo, Ohio, and Ruth Callahan of North.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home of North.

Memorials may be made to King Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1580 Hwy. 176, Swansea SC 29160.

Vera E. Faulling -- Orangeburg

Vera E. Faulling, 79, of 281 Beason Road, Orangeburg, died Thursday night, Oct. 2, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Thomas Brookshire officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

Active pallbearers will be Gene Hay, Steven Hoffman, Billy Fort, Zane Ferris, William Jaybird and Allen Nettles.

She was born July 9, 1924, in Orangeburg. She was the daughter of the late Shelly Smoak and the late Martha Ashe Smoak. She was retired from Roper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Faulling and two sons, Buckey Faulling and Clyde Faulling.

Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Faulling of Orangeburg; one son, Al Faulling of Orangeburg; five grandchildren, Billy Faulling; Tommy Faulling; Shelly Faulling; Christina Faulling and Gregory Faulling, all of Orangeburg; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence, 281 Beason Road, Orangeburg, and at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Richard C. Fogle -- Orangeburg

Richard C. Fogle of 795 Webster St., Orangeburg, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

The funeral will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. James Preveaux officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Jean Livingston of Orangeburg; brother-in-law, Paul Livingston of Garner, N.C.; niece and nephew, Rhonda and Steve Lutz of Cary, N.C.; great-niece, Carolyn Lutz of Cary, N.C.

Friends may call at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

James A. Gartman -- Neeses

James A. Gartman, 69, of 2866 Ninety-Six Road, Neeses, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home, with Rev. Henry Chavis officiating.

Mr. Gartman was born in Neeses, a son of the late Rev. John Gartman and Dora Hutto Gartman. He was a retired Air Force Staff Sergeant and served in Vietnam. He was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Williams; brother, Dennis Gartman; nephew, Tom Gartman; and beloved dog, "Cocoa."

Survivors include his wife of the home, Margaret Gartman; two stepdaughters and husbands, Teresa and Glenn Purvis Sr. of West Columbia and Crystal Smith of Lexington; one stepson and wife, Randy and Marlene Shirey of Prosperity; four stepgrandsons, Robert John Shirey, Kyle Shirey, Glenn Purvis Jr., and Gary Purvis; three nephews, Billy Williams of Aiken, and Archie Gartman and Bobby Williams, both of Salley; one niece, Dot Williams of West Columbia; and good friends, Thurston Hutto and Heyward Jeffcoat.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home of North and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mrs. Melba 'Irene' Baack Sherrell -- Elloree

Mrs. Melba "Irene" Baack Sherrell, 52, of 2507 East Cleveland St., Elloree, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

The funeral will be held at noon, Monday, Oct. 6 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Bob Matthews officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Bjorge, Brad Doan, Del Green and William Baack.

Mrs. Sherrell was born Oct. 19, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas. She was the daughter of Bonnie Pearl Wall Baack and the late Arthur A. Baack.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Jerry Don Sherrell of Elloree; three daughters, Tunita Walker of Vance, Vickie Blankenship of Goose Creek, Dawn Bjorge of Florida; four grandchildren, Lisa and Amber Bjorge; Adam and Austin Blankenship; one brother, William Baack of Oklahoma; one sister, Sharon Thorton of Texas; and her mother, Bonnie Baack of Vance.

Friends may call at her residence, 2507 East Cleveland St., Elloree and at the funeral home.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Mr. Jerry D. Sherrell, P.O. Box 466, Elloree SC 29047.

Mrs. Leila Mae Carson Summers

Funeral services for Mrs. Leila Mae Carson Summers, of 1180 Wolfe Trail, Orangeburg, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald E. Greene Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews.

The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Summers died Tuesday, March 9 at Jolley Acres Health Care Center.

Mrs. Summers was born April 4, 1926 in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Mrs. Mae Ella Felder Carson and Henry Carson Sr. At an early age she joined Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and later affiliated herself with Andrew Chapel Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. Mrs. Summers served as president of the Gospel Choir for many years, was a member of the Mass Choir and the Christian Burial Association. She received her education in Orangeburg County public schools. She was retired from Orangeburg Nursing Home. Mrs. Summers was the widow of the late Willie Summers Jr. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Anderson; son, Lee Earl Carson; and sisters, Sadie Malinder and Susie Lowman.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Nelson (Cathy) Summers of Orangeburg; one daughter, Lillie (James) Nelson of St. Matthews; adopted daughter, Ann Green (Jonas) Logan of Jamison, daughter-in-law, Gloria Carson of Orangeburg; five sisters, Evangelist Lillie (Ivory) Minnigan of Newark, N.J., Catherine (Clifford) Salley, Ruby (Sammie) Felder, Lurine Carson Mitchell, all of Orangeburg, and Willia "Neil" Lawton of Columbia; two brothers, Henry (Charlotte) Carson Jr. of Orange, N.J., and John David (Minnie) Carson of Newark, N.J.; one brother-in-law, James (Lucille) Summers of Orangeburg; one sister-in-law, Pearline Jackson of Orangeburg; ten grandchildren, Tara, Big Bubba, Stacey, Cory, Lynn, Ashley, Lisa, Shane, Janovila, and Brittany; nine great grandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m., Friday, at Bythewood Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lillie Nelson, 925 Murph Mill Road, St. Matthews and at the funeral home.
