SANTEE - Mrs. Lola Newell Jeffords Bull, 91, of the Providence community, Santee, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at her home.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry L. Martin and Rev. Ken Hay officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Bull, James Shuler, Ethan Bull, Mike Blake, William Bull, Matthew Bull, Middleton Bull, Andrew Bull, and Stewart Bull.
Born in Timmonsville, Newell was the daughter of the late Sam Ernest “Jeff” Jeffords and Lillian Young Jeffords Godowns. She graduated from Columbia College in 1946. She taught at Brookland Cayce High School and coached girls’ basketball, and worked at Pee Dee State Bank in Timmonsville prior to her marriage to Porter Bull of Santee in 1948.
Newell wore many hats. She clerked at BC Moores’s, was summer counselor and Camp Bearwillow in NC, a dental assistant at Kessler Field, Biloxi, Miss., worked at Clemson College Library, Southern National Bank, Orangeburg, was a correspondent for 10 years with The Times and Democrat newspaper, and taught for 33 years in the Holly Hill Schools. In 1987 she was District Teacher of the Year for District 3. Since the 1950’s she was an active member of Providence United Methodist Church and the Maria Wightman Circle. She taught Sunday School and was active in almost every phase of the church. She was the youth leader at one time, and in 2003 Newell was Woman of the Year, and in 2006 Mother of the Year at the church. She was also a leader of the local 4-H Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen B. (Dahl) Shuler of Providence; a son, Dr. Michael P. Bull of Providence; grandchildren, Jonathan (Yasmeen) Bull, Jamie B. (Mike) Blake, Sara Shuler (Dean) Hutto, and James Porter Shuler; great-grandchildren, Ethan Keith Bull, Julie Elizabeth Blake, Emma Elise Bull, and Sara Michelle Blake.
The family will receive friends after the burial in the church social hall.

The family would like to thank Magnolias of Santee, Grove Park Hospice, and the Planters Trace Staff for the care given to Mrs. Bull and her family.
Clary ’Gator’ Sherman -- Bamberg
Funeral services for Clary “Gator” Sherman, 40, of 35 Kennedy Road, Bamberg will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Union Baptist Church, Bamberg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Sherman died Tuesday, March 14, in Bamberg County Hospital.
He was born in Bamberg County, to the late Marvin and Betty Sherman. He was educated in the public schools of Bamberg County. At an early age, he joined the Union Baptist Church. He was employed at Rockland Industries for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Protronda Mikell Sherman of Groton, Conn; four daughters, Shanya Mikell and Shamya Mikell, both of Groton, Conn., Vanessa E. Cann of Barnwell, Tatyanna Sherman of Ruffin; one son, Nikel Sherman of Ruffin; five sisters, Bessie and Sarah Sherman of Bamberg, Sarah Simmons of Queens, N.Y., Betty and Alice Sherman of Denmark.
Friends may call at the home of his sister, Bessie Sherman, 35 Kennedy Road, Bamberg and at the fellowship hall of the church.
Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg is in charge of services.
Mrs. Mary Walker Houston -- North
Mrs. Mary Walker Houston, 80, of 791 Forrest Creek Drive, North, died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law.
Funeral plans will be announced by W. B. Crumel Funeral Home of North.
Friends may call at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence (Dorothy) Brown, 791 Forrest Creek Drive, North and at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ida May Blake Boltin Nettles -- Cordova
Mrs. Ida May Blake Boltin Nettles, 89, of 288 Opie Road, Cordova, died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Jimmy Hanf officiating. Burial will be in the St. George Baptist Church Cemetery in Orangeburg.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Boltin, David Spigner, Ron Craven, Randy Blewer, Phil Sanders, Troy Cain, Curtis Cain and Travis Cain.
Mrs. Nettles was born September 21, 1916, a daughter of the late John Cleveland Blake and the late Lettie Mae Young Blake, her late stepmother, Anna Marie Stacy Blake. She was a member of St. George Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John David Boltin and was the widow of John Fairey Nettles. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Blewer and a brother and sister-in-law, J.P. and Fairey Blake.
Survivors include one son, Clevie (Martha) Boltin, of Cordova; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Vickey) Cain, of Orangeburg; a son-in-law, Jerry Blewer, of Cordova; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the residence of Mrs. Ronald (Vickey) Cain, 822 East Huson Circle, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Bonnie Heaitley Ryan
SANTEE - Bonnie Heaitley Ryan, 65, of Santee, wife of Clint Ryan, died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem United Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Allen and Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Doug Shuler, Jr., Leon Dantzler, Dane Dantzler, Tony Dantzler, Andrew Bull, and William Irick.
Bonnie was born in Orangeburg a daughter of the late Clive Edward Heaitley and Virginia Irick Lawson. She was a graduate of Elloree High School and was a front desk clerk at the Hampton Inn in Santee. Bonnie was a member of Jerusalem UMC.
Surviving are her husband, Clint, a daughter, Tiffany (Kevin) Stearns, a granddaughter, Hanna Stearns, and a sister, Deborah Russell, all of Santee.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill.

Miss Dorothy Mae Moore -- HOLLY HILL
Miss Dorothy Mae Moore, of 573 Cribb St., Holly Hill, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at her residence following a sudden illness.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Shuler-Marshall Funeral Home, 1235 Unity Road, Holly Hill.
Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Ms. Gwendolyn Moore, 201 General Dennis Drive, Summerville, and the funeral home.
Iva W. Livingston -- BATESBURG-LEESVILLE
Iva Warner Livingston, 86, of Batesburg-Leesville, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Wittenberg Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michael Sherman officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Crest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Mrs. Livingston was born in Lexington County, a daughter of the late Willie Preston and Lizzie Hayes Warner. She was a member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church and was a retired seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Livingston.
Survivors include sisters, Mrs. Samuel (Eva) Watson Sr. and Mrs. Clyde (Anne) Oswald, both of Batesburg-Leesville; brothers, Brooks F. Warner of Virginia and Daniel D. Warner Sr. of Orangeburg; an adopted daughter, Patricia Azzarelli of Ridgeland; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
