Mrs. Dorothy ‘Dot’ Kennedy Maple -- ORANGEBURG

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Kennedy Maple, 65, of 1363 Goff Ave., died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, after a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Bethea’s Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence and the funeral home.

Quentin Rice Sprouse -- Weaverville, N.C.

Quentin Rice Sprouse, 87, died Saturday, March 18, 2006.

Mrs. Sprouse was born January 11, 1919, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. Quentin was the daughter of the late William James and Vista Edmonds Rice and the wife of the late Estrel J. Sprouse who died in 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Carroll Sprouse.

Surviving are her two sons, Harry C. Sprouse and wife, Judy, of Neeses and Rufus D. Sprouse and wife, Julia, of Hendersonville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Kolbasa and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, N.C. with the Reverends Larry Sprouse and Danny Ray Buckner officiating. Burial will be in Refuge Cemetery, Alexander.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Kirby S. Jones -- Orangeburg

Kirby S. Jones, 53, of 115 Courage Lane, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg from injuries received in an auto accident.

Funeral plans will be announced by Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence of his wife, Mrs. Deborah Jones of 115 Courage Lane, Orangeburg or at the funeral home.

Segris Hightower -- BAMBERG

Segris Hightower, 94, of 28 Third St., Bamberg, S.C., died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Bamberg County Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, in the Cooner Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Futrell officiating. Burial will follow in Bamberg County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Hightower was born October 4, 1911, in Denmark, a son of the late Henry Brunson Hightower and Ella Tant Hightower. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bamberg. He retired from E.I. Dupont after 23 years of service at Savannah River Site. He was a WWII veteran, enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an avid automobile enthusiast. He was predeceased by his wife; one son, Henry Reed Hightower; and daughter-in-law, Debra Hightower.

Survivors include one daughter, Eleanor H. and Steve Mann of Lexington; three grandsons, Thomas Mann of Clemson, Russell Hightower of Columbia and Heath Hightower of Bamberg; one granddaughter; Frances Mann of Lexington; two brothers, Harvey Hightower of The Methodist Oaks, Orangeburg, and Wilbur Hightower of Bamberg; two sisters, Mildred Hutto of Bamberg, and Poly Meyers of Bamberg.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cooner Funeral Home Chapel, Bamberg.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Bamberg, P.O. Box 355, Bamberg, SC 29003; to Bamberg County Hospital “Sunroom Fund”, PO Box 1027, Bamberg, SC 29003; or to Children’s Chance, PO Box 7453, Columbia, SC 29202.

Ozie Brigmon -- ORANGEBURG

Mr. Ozie Brigmon, 70, of 436 Murray Road, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at The Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral plans will be announced by Glover’s Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the residence of his mother, Mrs. Eva Mae Brigmon, 237 Hickson Drive, Orangeburg and at the funeral home.

Leon S. Martin
October 1, 1943 ~ October 9, 2016 (age 73)

HOLLY HILL - Leon S. Martin, 73, of Holly Hill, widower of Betty Chance Martin, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Eutawville. Burial will follow in the Eutawville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the CHURCH this Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

Leon was a son of Jannie Weatherford Martin and late Sidney Martin. He was an Army veteran, and long-time sheet metal mechanic in Heating and Air Conditioning.

Surviving are his mother; step-daughter, Brenda Hinton; sisters, Irene Zeagler, Lorene Weatherford, Annie Atkinson; and brothers, Jimmy Martin, Walter Martin, and Levi Martin.

Mrs. Myrtis Louise Hinkle -- Myrtle Beach

Mrs. Myrtis Louise Hinkle, 91, of 54 Plantation Road, Myrtle Beach, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Conway Manor in Conway.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Cordova, with the Rev. Lonnie Shull and the Rev. Winnie Brickle officiating.

Mrs. Hinkle was born January 24, 1915, in Orangeburg County. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie Tolson Brickle and the late Roberta Camile Hunt Brickle. She was retired from Utica Tool and was a member of Garden City Baptist Church in Orangeburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Laurie Brickle, Vernon Brickle and Richard Brickle; and one sister, Ruth Udell.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Cecelia McCollum and Mrs. Judy Bozard, both of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lonnie (Hazel) Shull of Columbia and Barbara Austin of Greensboro, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the residence of Mrs. Winnie Brickle, 1248 Sawyer St., Orangeburg and at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.

Eugene ‘Son’ Shuler -- Cordova

Funeral services for Mr. Eugene “Son” Shuler, 80, of Cordova, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Edisto Fork United Methodist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Hayes T. Gainey Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Mr. Shuler, son of the late Willie Shuler and Janie Shuler, died Tuesday, March 21, at his residence.

He was born October 5, 1925. He was married to the late Daisy Mae Shuler. At an early age he joined Jerusalem United Methodist Church, now Edisto Fork United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Ms. Mary Hillard, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one son, Harry (Bessie) Shuler, of Cordova; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanch Shuler; one brother-in-law, Vernon Cleckley; two stepbrothers, William Dash and Leon Dash Sr.; three stepsisters, Mrs. Mattie Dash, Mrs. Eula Adams and Mrs. Fannie Dash; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the residence of his son, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shuler, 114 Tatum Road, Cordova or at Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Whelmina Simpson Rhett -- Orangeburg

Mrs. Whelmina Simpson Rhett, 75, of 5134 Cannon Bridge Road, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Bamberg County Nursing Center following a brief illness.

Funeral plans will be announced by Glover’s Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jessie M. Pough Milhouse -- SALLEY

Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie M. Pough Milhouse, 61, of 230 Walnut St., Salley, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Norway, with the Rev. N.A. McNeal and the Rev. W. Henry Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Milhouse died Sunday, March 19.

Survivors include her husband, Christian Milhouse Sr. of the home; a son, Deacon Melvin (Christine) Pough Sr. of North; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Lee Donaldson of Trenton, N.J., and Ms. Karien Pough of North; two brothers, John Henry (Almeta) Pough of North and James Arthur Pough of Avon Park, Fla.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home of North.

Friends may call at the residence of her son, Deacon Melvin (Christine) Pough Sr., 463 Pond Road, North, and the funeral home.
