Funeral services for Mrs. Kay P. Hampton, 61, of 1720 Wingfield St., Orangeburg, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at Bull Swamp Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Leroy Cain officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Hampton died Sunday, Nov. 12, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
She was born January 14, 1945, in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Marion and Georgia Moss Holman. She was educated in the Orangeburg public school system. She was a member of Bull Swamp Baptist Church and was employed with Lone Star BBQ of Santee.
Survivors include her husband, Marion Hampton of Orangeburg; six daughters, Dianne Fersner, Angela Hampton, Tasha Hampton, Pearline Hampton, Stephanie Hampton, all of Orangeburg and Anita Hampton of Statesboro, Ga.; three sons, Marion Hampton of Jonesville, Va., David Hampton and Shawn Hampton, both of Orangeburg; five sisters, Ethel Holman, Catherine (Hillard) Keitt, Ida Sistrunk, Mary (George) Zeigler, Georgiann (Lovern) Keitt, all of Orangeburg; two brothers, Frank Holman of Washington, D.C. and James (Queen) Holman of Orangeburg; one goddaughter; one son-in-law, Edward Anthony Fersner of Orangeburg; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; three aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Dianne Fersner, 280 Green St., Orangeburg or at Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
Johnny Lee Washington -- St. George

Johnny Lee Washington, 60, the husband of Edith Washington of 215 Primus Drive, St. George, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, after a brief illness.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Greater St. Paul AME Church, Harleyville, with the Rev. Eugene Collins officiating. Burial will be in the St. John United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dorchester.
Mr. Washington was born Oct. 23, 1946, to J.L. Washington and the late Annie Jean Smith Washington. He attended the public schools of Dorchester County and continued his education at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Mr. Washington was also a United States Army Veteran and a retired Criminal Investigator for the New York City Police Department.
Mr. Washington leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife Edith Bright Washington, of St. George; two sons, Craig Washington, of Wheatley Heights, N.Y. and Corey Washington, of Kew Gardens, N.Y.; one daughter, Audreyess Washington, of Winterville, N.C.; three brothers, A.J. (Barbara) Washington, Jimmy (Annie) Washington and Andrew Washington, all of Harleyville; one sister, Louise Washington, of Harleyville; a host of nephews, nieces, cousin and other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Ling Funeral Home of St. George.
Marion Bessinger -- Bamberg

Marion Bessinger, 75, of Bamberg, died Saturday, November 11, 2006, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Ehrhardt Memorial Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the South End Cemetery in Bamberg.
Mr. Bessinger was born December 28, 1930, in Bamberg, a son of the late Willie and Onie Davis Bessinger. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from the New Jersey Transportation Authority as a subway conductor. He loved to work on the farm and in his garden and raise his animals. He also loved western movies and country music. Most of all, he will be remembered for being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and for the love he had for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Griessbach Bessinger; children, Gloria Hiott, Peter Bessinger, Greta Bessinger, Daniel Bessinger, Gail Brownlee, and Willie Bessinger, all of Bamberg, David Bessinger, of Gerard, Ga.; brother, Bobby Bessinger, of Bamberg; sisters, Wilhelmina Miller, of Brookville, Va., and Iris Drigger, of Monroe, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel, 2515 Lowcountry Highway, Ehrhardt.

Mrs. Mazie Singletary Hopkins, ST. MATTHEWS

Funeral services for Mrs. Mazie Singletary Hopkins, 93, of 155 Merrybelle Lane, St. Matthews, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, St. Matthews, with the Rev. Velma Heyward officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Hopkins died Sunday, Nov. 12, after an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of the late James Singletary and Mrs. Sarah Murph Singletary Murchinson. Mrs. Hopkins attended the public schools of Orangeburg and Calhoun counties. At an early age, she joined Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully until her health started to decline. She retired from the Green Thumb Program.
She was married to the late Elliott Hopkins and to the union six children were born and five preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Mattie H. Jones of Jamaica, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Mamie M. Stroman of St. Matthews; 10 grandchildren, Mrs. Brenda (Fred) Mosley of St. Matthews, Ms. Linda Waymer of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Ms. Valerie Jones and Mrs. Carmen (Authur) Weeks of Jamaica, N.Y., James (Teresa) Williams of St. Matthews, Mrs. Tijuana (Christopher) Iverson of Waterbury, Conn., Ms. Aimee Brunson, Craig Clark and Ms. Alicia Clark, all of Orangeburg, and Vincent Brunson of Clinton, Md.; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a special caregiver, Ms. Jannie Flood; and a caring personal care aide, Ms. Elaine Howell.
Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jenkins Funeral Home, St. Matthews.

Ms. Clara Rourk Kemmerlin -- Santee

Funeral services for Ms. Clara Rourk Kemmerlin, 83, of 1740 Bonner Ave., Santee, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at Fogle-Hungerpiller Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Hucks officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The casket will be open for viewing one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be James Simpkins (grandson), Jesse Griffis (great-grandson), Sonny Rourk (grandson), Ray Zeigler (nephew), Walter “Bubba” Zeigler (nephew) and Christopher Peagler (friend of the family).
Ms. Kemmerlin left this world Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 to be with God and her other family members that she missed so dearly. She died at home after an extended illness.
She was born August 5, 1923, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late James Hubert Rourk and Sophie Dukes Rourk. She was a retired supervisor at Ambler Industries in the garment division. She enjoyed cooking for her grandchildren almost as much as we enjoyed it. Although she retired many years ago, she still continued to enjoy “supervising” the family.
She was a most devoted single parent of seven children, two sons and five daughters; Anne Eargle of Holly Hill, Cheryl (Terry) Blewer of Santee, Marie Moon of Virginia Beach, Va., Mae Moore of Norfolk, Va. and Betsy Kemmerlin of Santee. She was predeceased by two sons, Willie Lewis “Bill” Kemmerlin and Benjamin Douglas “Ben” Kemmerlin.
She was the most wonderful, loving, giving “Grammie” a grandchild could ever ask for.
Survivors include Jody (Julie) Eargle of Harleyville, Martie (Wesley) Williams, of Holly Hill, Michael (Arlene) Eargle of Harleyville, Tina (Dave) Wales of Virginia Beach, Va., Terry Le (Sandra) Blewer of Santee, Dawn Hirsch, of Norfolk, Va., Nina (James) Simpkins of Virginia Beach, Va., Maria Moon of Virginia Beach, Va., Angela Moore of Norfolk, Va., Krystal Moon of Virginia Beach, Va., Kimberly Moore of Norfolk, Va., Sonny Rourk of Reevesville; also the doting great-grandmother of 24 and the great-great-grandmother of one. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters and have four surviving siblings, Wade “Hamp” (Helen) Rourk of Holly Hill, Heyward (Bobbi) Rourk of Tennessee, Vivian “Sister” (Bobby) Smith of Cookeville, Tenn. and Mildred (Tea) Zeigler of Elloree; and numerous nieces, nephews and close, personal friends for which we are grateful.
The family will be accepting visitors at 2097 Bonner Ave., Santee (previous residence of Sonny and Ann Rourk).
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fogle-Hungerpiller Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
