Lillian B. Ellis, ST. MATTHEWS

Funeral services for Lillian B. Ellis, 72, of 1005 Liberty Street, St. Matthews, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Bethel AME Church, St. Matthews, with the Rev. Phil Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for viewing.

Mrs. Ellis died Wednesday, December 6.

She was born in Clarendon County to the late William Ballard and Dollie Richardson. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, where she was a dedicated member, dedicated to the works of the church and loved her church dearly. She was a life member of the Wateree Area of the Women’s Missionary Society, past president and vice president of the Missionary Society, Central Conference Organization, lay historiographer, class leader, stewardess, and Steward Board and Sunday School. She worked diligently with all Missionary Societies. Her civic duties included the Best Chance program, voter registration drives and being a life member of the NAACP.

Lillian was educated in the public schools of Clarendon and Calhoun counties. She received several higher education certificates from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Orangeburg. Bea worked in the Calhoun County public schools as a dietician for more than 10 years and retired from the Orangeburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra (Ronald) Bonaparte; a son, Steven (Joan) Ellis; and a foster son, Spencer Kempson, all of St. Matthews; foster son Everett “Ted” Ballard of Columbia; sisters, Ida Jenkins of Fort Motte and Lillie Dell Glover of St. Matthews; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home of St. Matthews.

Friends may call at the residence and the funeral home.

Anna Louise Culler Teel, JUPITER, FLA.

Anna Louise Culler Teel, of Jupiter, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Striffler-Hamby. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. A viewing will be held prior to the graveside service.

Mrs. Teel was born Oct. 20, 1917, in Orangeburg, the daughter of Julia Belle Marchant and Julian Wesley Culler. She graduted from Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Honorary Sorority and a member of the Senior Honor Society.

She was a member of Button Guinnett Chapter of the D.A.R., Ambassador’s Club (Ga. Power Co.), Sherwood United Methodist Church, Friendship Bible Class, Elizabeth Clark Circle. She was a former teacher at Mountain Hill School, Fortson, Ga., and a supply teacher in Columbus, Ga., where she lived for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Teel.

Survivors include a son, James R. Teele Jr. and Pat Teel of Jupiter, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Ballard of Orangeburg; grandchildren, Brad, Eric, Ricky and Rachael Teel, all of Jupiter, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Williams of Fortson, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, Jupiter, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.

Lillie A. Boyd, HARLEYVILLE

Lillie A. Boyd, 87, of Harleyville, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in Walterboro Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Mount Zion AME Church. Burial, directed by Brown & Son Funeral Home, will be in Dorchester Cemetery.

Mrs. Boyd was born in Harleyville, a daughter of the late Alice Rivers Pendarvis and Elijah Pendarvis. She was a member of Mount Zion AME Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was married to the late Shellie Boyd.

Survivors include one son, Cicero Boyd of Durham, N.C.; one daughter, Collette Frazier of Rorkville Centre, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Artie Vernell Boyd; son-in-law, Augustus Frazier; granddaughters, Renee Boyd Ford and Charlotte Nicole Frazier of New York. She was a surrogate mother figure to Keith Morgan, Dorothy Hill, Raymond Hill, LaMonica Hill, Raymondus Hill, Mary Ellen Payne, Amelia Boyd, D’Angela Boyd, ShaMonique Payne and Shannon Payne.

John Wesley Keitt, ORANGEBURG

Funeral services for John Wesley Keitt, 65, of 411 Medford St., Orangeburg, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at New Life in Christ Ministries, 241 Broughton St., Orangeburg, with the Rev. Warren Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bull Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Keitt died Sunday, Dec. 3.

Friends may call at the residence and at Bethea’s Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

C.M. Shingler Jr., EUTAWVILLE

Mr. C.M. Shingler Jr., 81, of Eutawville, husband of Noralee W. Shingler, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at First Baptist Church in Eutawville, with the Rev. Mike Thompson, the Rev. John Scott and the Rev. Trey Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Eutawville Cemetery.

Mr. Shingler was born in Eutawville, a son of the late Clarence M. Shingler and Bertha Ward Shingler. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a former councilman for the town of Eutawville, and former manager of the Holly Hill Country Club. Mr. Shingler was a member of First Baptist Church in Eutawville, and a member and former Worshipful Master of Vance Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, David Shingler.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Connie Miller of North Augusta; sons, Robert (Wanda) Shingler of Harleyville and Larry (Sheryl) Shingler of Holly Hill; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Avinger Funeral Home of Holly Hill.

Memorials may be made to Eutawville Cemetery, PO Box 5, Eutawville, SC 29048.

Sims C. Moorer, LONE STAR

Sims Canady Moorer, 63, of 3033 McCords Ferry Road, Lone Star, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, in Pine Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Olin W. Chassereau officiating.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Shannon, Cecil Moorer Jr., Pinckney Moorer, Tinny Traxler, Mike Stroble, Kirk Pooser, Wayne Polin and Carroll Stoudenmire.

Mr. Moorer was the son of the late William Jacob and Dora Estelle Smoak Moorer. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and was a graduate of Capitol Barber School in Columbia. He was the retired owner of Moorer’s Barber Shop in Cameron, as well as Moorer’s Farm. He was a member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Rickenbaker Moorer of the home; a son, Williams Berley Moorer of Lone Star; a daughter, Kathy Moorer Sinnott and husband, Bucky, of Cameron; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Moorer of Cameron; a sister, Betsy Moorer of Eutawville; three grandchildren, Jake and Sidney Moorer and Katelyn Sinnott; a niece, Mary Elizabeth Moorer, of Hickory, N.C.; and caregivers Sallie Mack, Theresa Oliver and Sam Houser.

Friends may call at the residence.

M.L. ‘James’ Mintz, SPRINGFIELD, MO.

M.L. “James” Mintz, of Springfield, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel in Springfield, Mo.

Mr. Mintz was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Orangeburg, a son of Eugene and Maggie Mintz. Although M.L. was his given name, he grew to be called James. He excelled in school and was a standout lineman on the football field at Wilkinson High School. Upon graduation he had several college football scholarship offers but chose to join the Air Force in 1949. He was stationed at Fordland Air Force station in Missouri. During his military career he served in the Korean War and traveled to Japan and the Netherlands.

Following his military stint, James worked in Orangeburg for Star and Dash Cab companies. Upon his return to Springfield, Mo., he worked at Southwest Missouri State University and later Lily Tulip Co. He was a Shriner and served with Truth Masonic Lodge 151. In recent years, he relished attending Gibson Chapel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Marvin Grant.

Survivors include two brothers, Albert Mintz (Maggie) of Atlanta and Lonnie Mintz (Irene) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Carolyn Bleakney (Tony) of Orangeburg; children, Carolyn Mints of Charlotte; Daniel Grant, Michael Grant and Mitzy Doomes, all of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; a nice and nephew; and numerous extended family and friends throughout Springfield, Missouri and Orangeburg.
