Theodore Wilbur Webber, ORANGEBURG

Funeral services for Theodore Wilbur Webber, 91, of 755 Whitman St., were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating.

Active pallbearers were Aubrey Martin, Wilbur Barwick, Christopher Barwick, Larry Shuler, Wayne Shuler, Irvin Shuler, Tom Bonnette and Tim Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post No. 4 and the Agape Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Webber died Thursday, December 7, at the Orangeburg Nursing Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1240 Russell St., Orangeburg, SC 29115; Orangeburg Nursing Home, 755 Whitman St., Orangeburg, SC 29115; or to the American Legion Post No. 4.

Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Freeman -- BAMBERG

Funeral services for Willie Freeman, 82, of 101 Price St., Bamberg, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Spires Chapel Baptist Church in Cope, with the Rev. Wendell Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Freeman died Friday, Dec. 8, at the Bamberg Nursing Center.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at the Johnson-Dash Funeral Home of Bamberg.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Dash Funeral Home of Bamberg.

Mrs. Elease Weaver Saxon Green, ORANGEBURG

Funeral services for Mrs. Elease Saxon Green, 92, formerly of 2319 Russell St., Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Williams Chapel AME Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Caesar R. Richburg and the Rev. Allen Parrott officiating. Burial will be in Belleville Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Orangeburg.

The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

She died Thursday, Dec. 7, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Green, daughter of the late Tony and Hattie Weaver, was born July 19, 1914, in Alcolu. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics at South Carolina State College (University). She also completed requirements for the Master of Education degree at South Carolina State College in 1967. Further study was done at Hampton University, Va., Temple University in Philadelphia and Winthrop College, Rock Hill. Mrs. Green was first married to the late Jackson Saxon and then the late James H. Green. She rendered many years of outstanding and dedicated service to the public schools, especially Wilkinson High School as a teacher to the Orangeburg community, and in Williams Chapel AME Church.

Her awards were many, including Certificate of Appreciation, Chapter Member-Order of Eastern Star Edisto Chapter No. 258, April 29, 1990, Worthy Matron-Order of Eastern Star, Edisto Chapter No. 258, 1983-1985; Fiftieth Anniversary Chapter Member, Edisto Chapter No. 258, 1999 Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, 50-year membership, July 19, 1999; Past Worthy Matron, Order of Eastern Star, Edisto Chapter No. 258, 1999; Dedicated Service to Education, Wilkinson High School, 1943; Loyal and Dedicated Service to Orangeburg School District No. 5 1939-1980; Robert Shaw Wilkinson Consistory No. 220 and Jeddah Temple No. 16-Award for dedicated service, March 6, 1998 Orangeburg County Council on Aging, Volunteer Contributions to Progress for the elderly, June 28, 1985; Certificate of Recognition, Outstanding Service of Mission work, Orangeburg Area Missionary Society, May 22, 1998; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Outstanding Service and Dedicated Commitment to Alpha Omicron Zeta Chapter, March 25, 1995; Certificate of Appreciation for Loyal and Dedicated Service as Past Basileus, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, July 1975- June, 1977; Certificate of Lifetime Membership, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, November 30, 1984; Dedicated and Loyal Service to Mu Kappa of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Claflin College, May 1, 1998; Outstanding and Dedicated Service to the Chappelle Club of Williams Chapel AME Church in September 1996; she was also honored to be named “Mother of the Year” for Williams Chapel AME Church, 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, E. Jacqueline Saxon of the home and LaRose (Cedric) Saxon-Cannon of Fort Lee, N.J.; one sister, Sarah Sanders of Sumter, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call at Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority will observe their ritual service from 5 to 6 p.m. with the Eastern Star service to be held from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Williams Chapel AME Church Learning Center.

Mrs. Sarah A. Butts, ORANGEBURG

Mrs. Sarah A. Butts, 92, of 1443 Essex Drive, Orangeburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at her residence following a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Glover’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Beulah Sanders -- BAMBERG

Mrs. Beulah Sanders died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at the Bamberg County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Lees. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Joe Cephus Sanders of Denmark; one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Mae Thompson; one son-in-law, Mr. Edward Thompson, both of Blackville; two sisters; two brothers; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Friends may call at the residence, 18810 Heritage Highway, Denmark.

Lebby Funeral Home of Denmark is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reba W. Dixon, ST. MATTHEWS

Mrs. Reba Wise Dixon, 73, of 465 Old Belleville Road, Orangeburg, died Saturday, December 9, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, December 11, at Congaree Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Golden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Calvin Wise Jr., William F. “Bill” Wise, Randy Wise, Marion Bookhart, Lee Godwin, David Wise and Ryan Griffin.

Mrs. Dixon was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late G. Fred and Katie Haltiwanger Wise. She was an Avon sales representative serving Calhoun County for 40 years. She was a member of Congaree Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley Lee Dixon of the home; daughter, Mrs. James H. (Becky) Rucker of Sandy Run; brother, George Calvin Wise of St. Matthews; grandson, James H. Rucker Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of St. Matthews; granddaughter, Katie R. Rucker of Sandy Run; and great-granddaughter, Emma Caroline Rucker.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 10, at Gethsemane Baptist Church. At other times, friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Congaree Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 299 Old Belleville Road, St. Matthews, SC 29135 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Charlie Lee Hammonds, GREENSBORO, N.C.

Mr. Charlie L. Hammonds, 54, of 5509 Tomahawk Drive, Greensboro, N.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, N.C.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Timothy M. Hannibal officiating. Burial will be in Belleville Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Orangeburg.

Mr. Hammonds was born July 30, 1953, in Orangeburg, a son of Marguree Hammonds Shuler and the late David Hammonds Sr. He graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1970. His continued pursuit of knowledge led to degrees in Automobile Mechanics and Industrial Engineering Technology. He was a certified journeyman/carpenter. He lived in Milwaukee/Brown Deer, Wis., where he was owner and general contractor for Hammonds Drywall and Remodeling. He was united in holy matrimony to Barbara August-Hammonds on Oct. 29, 1983.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Hammonds of Greensboro, N.C., mother, Marguree Hammonds Shuler of Orangeburg; a son, Marcus Hammonds of Milwaukee/Brown Deer, Wis.; a daughter, Ramona Hammonds of Milwaukee/Brown Deer, Wis.; brothers, David (Arminte) Hammonds of Madison, Wis., Kirby Hammonds of Madison, Wis.; Ramsey (Yvonne) Hammonds of Madison, Wis., Sherlock Shuler, Orangeburg and Isaac Shuler of Madison, Wis.; sisters, Marie Brown of Orangeburg, Ada (Robert) Jamison of Orangeburg, Angie (Tony) Glover of Orangeburg, Patricia Wade of Madison, Wis., Barbara (Lindy) Green of Orangeburg, Nora (Lenny) Cain of Orangeburg and Irma Adams of Orangeburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the residence of his mother, Marguree Hammond Shuler, 881 Kearse Drive, Orangeburg, or at Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be held at from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
