Alice Cuthbert Allston
Alice Cuthbert Allston, 86, of Beaufort, widow of Francis Bacot Allston, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Columbia.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Summerville.
Mrs. Allston was born Feb. 28, 1912 in Belton, a daughter of Grange Simons and Anne Latimer Cuthbert. She was a member of St. Helena's Episcopal Church, Beaufort.
Surviving are a son, Francis Bacot Allston of Beaufort; a daughter, Anne Allston Smith III of Columbia; a brother, Grange Simons Cuthbert Jr. of Summerville; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to St. Helena's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1043, Beaufort, S.C. 29901.

Carl Gerald Jacobson
Carl Gerald Jacobson, 57, of Fripp Island died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Roper Hospital, Charleston.
Memorial services will be Dec. 19 in Peachtree United Methodist Church, Atlanta.
Mr. Jacobson was born Aug. 13, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, a son of Carl Metzger Jacobson and Marion Jacobson. He was retired from the Linde Division of Union Carbide.
Surviving are his mother of New Port Richey, Fla.; his wife, Elsbeth Jacobson of Fripp Island; two daughters, Christine Carter and Sandra Jacobson of Atlanta; and a brother, Robert Jacobson of New Port Richey.
The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to South Carolina Historical Society, Charleston or by giving a unit of blood to the American Red Cross blood bank.

Meredith H. Mead
Dr. Meredith H. Mead, 84, of Port Royal, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his residence.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Helena's Episcopal Church.
Dr. Mead was born July 13, 1914, in Mitchell, S.D., a son of Dr. Harold Tupper Mead and Helen Edith Hunt Mead. He lived for short periods of time in Chicago, LaJolla, Calif., Boulder, Colo., New Orleans, New Haven, Conn., and Oneonta, N.Y. He graduated from Oneonta High School in 1931. He attended Hartwick College, College of the City of New York, Columbia University, the University of Alabama and graduated from Atlanta Southern Dental College in 1941. He was in private dental practice for a short time in Charleston until he joined the U.S. Navy in September 1941. He retired from the Navy in 1972 after a number of assignments and duty stations. He received a Purple Heart and Legion of Merit, among other decorations. Dr. Mead served as dental director of Beaufort-Jasper Comprehensive Health Services for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Marian McSweeney Mead of Port Royal; a daughter, Coni Harrison of Fort Pierce, Fla.; four sons, William Mead of Lady's Island, Guy Mead of Isle of Palms, Miles Mead of Port Royal and Meredith Mead of Asheville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
The family suggests that those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Helena's Preservation Trust or the Friends of Caroline Hospice.

Alfred N. Wyatt
Alfred N. Wyatt, 48, of Beaufort, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Medical University Hospital, Charleston.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 today in Anderson Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Carteret Street United Methodist Church with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Wyatt was born Jan. 18, 1950, in Onslow County, N.C., a son of retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Alfred Wyatt and Pearl Mixson Wyatt. He graduated from Beaufort High in 1968. He was a Boy Scout, reading Eagle Scout in Beaufort Troop 252 and then served as Junior Assistant Scout Master. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 281 in Millington, Tenn., in the mid 1970s.
He volunteered on the Millington and Annandale, Va., fire departments. He was instrumental in rebuilding the Hampton United Methodist Church in Millington, after it was destroyed by fire.
He entered U.S. Navy boot camp in 1970 in Orlando, Fla., and went to machinist mate school, Great Lakes, Ill. He served at Naval Station, San Diego and San Francisco, Calif. He served aboard the USS Wiltsie DD716 in Vietnam, part of West PAC and also served aboard the USS Kiska. He transferred to Millington. He was medically discharged in October 1978 as a petty officer first class in the Office of Chief of Naval Operations, Washington.
He worked with his father in home repair until March 1979 when he started with the City of Beaufort Fire Department as fire inspector and training officer and assistant chief. In 1985, he became Burton Fire Department assistant chief and training officer and later became deputy chief and fire chief. He medically retired in July 1996.
Surviving are his father of Beaufort; his wife of 27 1/2 years, Sharon Sandberg Wyatt of Beaufort; and a son, James Alfred "Jay" Wyatt of Beaufort.

Erin Lockhart Jernigan
Erin Lockhart Jernigan, 79, of Beaufort, widow of Paul Robert Jernigan, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Helena Episcopal Church with burial at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jernigan was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Fort Smith, Ark., a daughter of Malcolm Wright Lockhart and Frances Hardley Lockhart. She was a member of St. Helena Episcopal Church and was a volunteer with the Child Abuse Prevention Association and the Beaufort Area Caregivers Association. She was also a member of the Country Club of Beaufort.
Surviving are a son, Paul Jernigan of Beaufort; a daughter, Erin O'Loughlin of Endicott, N.Y.; a brother, David Lockhart of Concord, N.C.; a sister, Frances Campbell of South Africa; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions to Beaufort Area Caregivers, Post Office Box 1514, Beaufort, SC 29901.

Katharine Whitsell Kroeg
Katharine Whitsell Kroeg, 82, of Clinton, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesay at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
Ms. Kroeg was born in Charleston, a daughter of Andrew Alexander Kroeg Jr. and Oliveros Witsell Kroeg. She was a retired principal of Beaufort High School and a member of Beaufort Presbyterian Church where she was the first woman elder. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a graduate of the College of Charleston.
Surviving is a brother, Alec Kroeg of Greenville.

Marjorie Smith Langford
Marjorie Smith Langford, 85, of Port Royal, widow of Oliver Webb Langford Sr., died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, in Helena House, Port Royal.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Anderson Funeral Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Carteret Street United Methodist Church with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery.
Mrs. Langford was born on Dec. 22, 191,3 on St. Helena Island, a daughter of George Franklin Smith and Arlene Minola Pritcher Smith. She was a member of the Carteret Street United Methodist Church.
She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina Nursing School in 1935. She worked as a registered nurse at Beaufort Memorial Hospital for five years and U.S. Naval Hospital for 15 years. She was a member or the Mary Heyward Eastern Star Chapter 124 in Ridgeland for 50 years.
Surviving are two sons, O.W. "Webbie" Langford Jr. of Beaufort and Charles Smith Langford Jr. of Summerville; one daughter, Helena Gregg-Bennett of Beaufort; two brothers, Lavan Earl Smith of Seneca and Holland Smith of Elgin; one sister, Doris Bunn of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Sinclair Albany Sr., 76, of Dale, husband of Thelma Albany, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at his residence.

Rosa Barnwell
Rosa Barnwell, 88, of Bronx, N.Y., died Thursday, April 15, 1999, in Montiefero Medical Center, Bronx.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in Young Funeral Home, Yemassee. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Wilkerson Baptist Church, Early Branch.
Mrs. Barnwell was born in Early Branch, a daughter of Frank Barnwell and Isabelle Duncan Barnwell Heyward. She lived most of her life in Bronx. She was a domestic technician. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mount Vernon, N.Y., where she was a missionary.
Surviving are a sister, Louvenia B. May of Bronx; several nephews including Roosevelt, Larry and William Barnwell of Yemassee and Robbie Barnwell Jr. of Ridgeland; and several nieces.

Andrew Patilla Caldwell Jr.
Andrew Patilla Caldwell Jr., 90, of St. Simons Island, Ga., died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Mausoleum Chapel, Savannah.
Mr. Caldwell was born July 23, 1908, in Spartanburg, a son of Andrew Caldwell Sr. and Martha Alice Adair Caldwell. He was a retired electrical engineer with Union Camp. He attended Clemson College. He was a member of Mary Calder Golf Club, Savannah. He was a Mason and a member of Bull Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Anne C. Adams of Fripp Island and Beverly C. Penkava of St. Simons Island; a son, Andrew P. Caldwell III of Beaufort; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
