Mary Elma Brunson Stafford
SUMTER - Mary Elma Brunson Stafford, 83, widow of William Archie Stafford Sr., died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Lexington Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 this evening in Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, Sumter, and at other times at the home of Loretta Stokes, 1814 Hialeah Parkway. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Sumter Cemetery.
Mrs. Stafford was born in Clarendon County, a daughter of Jack and Loretta Baker Hodge Brunson. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active as a former Sunday school teacher and member of the Ladies Circle.
Surviving are a son, William A. Stafford Jr. of Spartanburg; three daughters, Sylvia Stafford Therrell of Columbia, Loretta Stafford Stokes of Sumter and Teresa "Terri" Stafford Stokes of Beaufort; three brothers, Jack Wade Brunson Sr. of Cleveland, Robert M. Brunson of Salisbury, N.C., and Charles F. "Mickey" Brunson of Bradenton, Fla.; five sisters, Frances H. Denton of Camden, Harriett B. Bruce of Raleigh, N.C., Sarah B. Zemp of Hartsville, Emma B. Marshall of Columbia and Jacqueline "Jackie" G. Partin of Greenville; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

MOULTRIE, Ga. - Annie Robinson Kelly, 72, of Moultrie, widow of Austin Kelly, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Services will be directed by Cobb Funeral Chapel, Hwy. 37, West Camilla Highway, Moultrie.
Mrs. Kelly was born May 1, 1928, in Mitchell County, Ga., a daughter of Nathan and Ruth Edenfield Robinson. She was a seamstress and worked in manufacturing. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Moultrie.
Surviving are a daughter, Laquitta A. Padgett of Beaufort; a son, Austin Lee Kelly of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Charlie Robinson of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Douglas Robinson of Thomasville, Ga.; three sisters, Nell Willis of Dawson, Ga., Laverne Hardin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joyce Tucker of Thomasville, Ga.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Oswald Weeks Lunde
Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Oswald Weeks Lunde, 87, of Bluffton died Friday, June 1, 2001, in Beaufort Naval Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. June 27 in U.S. National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., with full U.S. Air Force honors.
Col. Lunde was born Aug. 11, 1914, in Keewahnee, Wisc. He was a World War II U.S. Air Force pilot officer who received his wings and commission in 1938. When the Pacific war began in 1941, he was stationed in the Philippines. He survived the attack on Bataan and later joined Gen. George MacArthur's forces in Australia. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Lunde of McLean, Va.; two daughters, Rosalind of McLean and Susan of Fairfax, Va.; three sons, John of McLean; Eric of Bluffton and Marc of Denver, Colo.

Robert Eugene Mort
Retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Robert Eugene Mort, 74, of Beaufort died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 today in Anderson Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Mort was born June 29, 1926, in Fairmount, W.Va., a son of Raymond E. Mort and Madie Ellen Hershberger Mort. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, (Iwo Jima), Korea (Chosin Reservoir) and Vietnam. He was awarded numerous citations and commendations including Purple Heart with two stars, Navy Commendation Medal, two Presidential Unit Citations, seven Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, China Service Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential United Citation and United Nations Service Medal.
He was employed by Atlantic Coast and Prudential insurance companies and retired in 1989. He was a lifetime member of the Purple Heart Association, 4th Marine Division Association, Dog 7 Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Underwriter's Association, a Mason,. a 20-year member of Gideon's International and a member and served on the counseling board of the Gospel Light Christian Ministries Church.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey J. McGuire Mort of Beaufort; a son, Michael Mort of Sturgis, Mich.; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mort Payne of Beaufort; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Mort Weinhofer.

Glondell Malphrus Walters
RIDGELAND - Glondell Malphrus Walters, 70, of Ridgeland, wife of Joseph C. Walters III, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at her residence.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 today in Sauls Funeral Home, Ridgeland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Great Swamp Baptist Church, Ridgeland.
Mrs. Walters was born May 23, 1931, in Ridgeland, a daughter of Orland James "O.J." Malphrus and Hannah Lee Boyles Malphrus. She was a retired clerk/treasurer for the Town of Ridgeland. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church, Ridgeland. She was a member of the Ridgeland Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her mother and husband of Ridgeland; a son, Joseph C. Walters IV of Ridgeland; three daughters, Kathy W. Langford of Ridgeland, Lynda W. Saxon of Hilton Head and Donna W. Popanicholas of Newark, Del.; three brothers, O. Dale, G. Dwaine and Larry S. Malphrus of Ridgeland; three sisters, Anne M. Long, Jeanette M. Crosby and Varner M. Cleland of Ridgeland; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Thomas V. Jaskiewicz
NIANTIC, Conn. - Thomas V. Jaskiewicz, 64, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Waterford, Conn.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurday at Copeland Funeral Home, Beaufort. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parris Island Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will be at Beaufort National Cemetery.
Mr. Jaskiewicz was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Willimantic, Conn., a son of Marjorie De'Lia Jaskiewicz. He married Sheila Anderson on Parris Island.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Naval Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five stars, Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars. He also earned the Rifle and Pistol Sharpshooter Badges. He was retired from the Connecticut Department of Corrections, for which he worked as a correction officer at Gates Correctional Institution in Niantic. He earned the department's Circle of Merit in 1994, Governor's Community Service Award in 1997 and a 10-Year Certificate of Achievement.
He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and served two years as a Grand Knight in Charleston. He was a past post commander in the Niantic American Legion, a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Portsmouth, N.H., a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Niantic, a member of Beaufort AMVETS and Niantic Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife of Niantic; three sons, Thomas and Timothy of Beaufort and Garland of Niantic; two daughters, Tereasa and Mary of Beaufort; five brothers, Charles Jaskiewicz of Jewett City, Conn., Anthony Jaskiewicz of Southington, Conn., Donald Jaskiewicz of Laughlin, Nev., Richard Jaskiewicz of Tucson, Ariz. and Joseph Jaskiewicz of Montville, Conn.; a sister, Regina Westner of Montville; and eight grandchildren.

Wilena Frances Ovocky, 81, of Beaufort, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., widow of Henry "Hank" Ovocky, died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.
Mrs. Ovocky was born Jan. 4, 1920 in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of Willard Leslie and Ola D. Carey Johnson.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna G. Lincoln and Kay Lincoln Hines of Beaufort; a son, Ronald L. Johnson of Boone, N.C.; a brother, Donald Leslie Johnson of Huntington; eight grandchildren and 10 grandchildren.
