Marvin Randolph
SMYRNA – Marvin Randolph, 88, of 6991 Hwy. 97, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill.
A native of Rutherfordton, N.C., he was the son of the late George Washington Randolph and the late Mollie McCraw Randolph. He was self-employed and a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, George Randolph of Simpsonville and John M. Randolph Sr. of Blacksburg; one daughter, Barbara (Sis) Burkett of Columbia; one sister, Mary Lessie Simmons of Forest City, N.C.; one brother, Ervin Randolph of Gastonia; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pete Ruppe
Royal Freeman (Pete) Ruppe, 82, of 717 W. Floyd Baker Blvd., died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in Peachtree Center.
A native of Rutherford County, N.C., he was the husband of Tommie Anne Whelchel Ruppe and son of the late Fitzhugh Ruppe and the late Della Harris Ruppe. He was a retired car dealer and a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Phillip Ruppe and Tony Ruppe, both of Gaffney; two daughters, Linda Ruppe McCraw and Judy Ruppe Dennis, both of Gaffney; two brothers, Raymond Ruppe of Gaffney and Marshall Ruppe of Charlotte; one sister, Bertie Thomas of Cowpens; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by the Revs. Danny Emory and Rick Robison. Burial will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Scott Blanton, Lyman Ruppe, Rand Bailey, Lawrence Moore, George Whelchel and Leyland Cook.
The family is at the home of Judy Dennis, 1209 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney.
Memorials may be made to the Midway Baptist Church Van Fun, 153 Midway Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; Cherokee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, 959 E. O’Neal St.; Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or to the charity of one’s choice.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Karl Spencer
COWPENS – Karl Leonard Spencer, 69, or 1763 S. Green River Rd., died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Doris Clary Spencer and son of the late Earley Q. Spencer and the late Sara Gardner Spencer. He was retired part-owner of Fashion Engravers Inc. and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Macedonia Baptist Church and was a member of the Macedonia Fire Department.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Michael K. and Rita P. Spencer of Gaffney; one granddaughter, Clari Spencer of Gaffney; two sisters, Mary Jo Goforth and Dot Jennings, both of Gaffney.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by Dr. Terry Duvall. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Gardner, Lynn Wilkie, Timmy Spencer, Ronnie Petty, Joey Jennings and Ronnie Clary.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Macedonia Baptist Church’s Men’s Sunday School Class No. 2.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 Macedonia Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29341.

Donald Robinson
Donald W. Robinson, 60, of 437 Corinth Rd. died Saturday, August 21, 1999, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Carolyn Wilkie Robinson and son of the late Neal Robinson. He was retired from The Timken Co. and was a member of Berry Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Terry Robinson of Gaffney; one daughter, Donna Lindley of Gaffney; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Jim McClure, Joel Gardner and Jimmy Tarrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Mark Robinson, Rodney Lamb, Chuck Cooper, Michael Pierce, Dewayne Wilkie and Steve Wilkie.
The family is at the home of Terry Robinson, 427 Corinth Rd.

Annie Welchel
ROCK HILL – Annie Frye Welchel, 95, of 375 Baskins Rd. died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, in Piedmont Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Thomas Fred Welchel and daughter of the late Thomas Lee Frye and the late Mary Laney Starns Frye. She was homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Naomi W. Orr of Rock Hill and Rebecca W. Hambrick of Gaffney; two sons, Thomas P. Welchel of Parkers Lake, Ky., and Daniel D. Welchel of Hot Springs, Calif.
Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Forrest Scoggins and Chris Osborne. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ernest Orr, Daniel Sherrill and John Fawsett.
The family is at 204 W. Birnie St., Gaffney.
Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Regina Carroll
BLACKSBURG – Regina Blanton Carroll, 66, of 208 W. Carolina St. died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at her home after a long battle with cancer.
A native of Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late Nazie B. and Rhea Byars Blanton and a member of Broad River Baptist Church. She was a former textile worker and was retired from the Cherokee County school system.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Byars.
Surviving are two sons, Larry W. Blanton and Grant A. Carroll, both of Blacksburg; one daughter, Gwen C. Spanos of Gaffney; three brothers, Claude Blanton and Tommy Blanton, both of Blacksburg, and Sullivan "Bobo" Blanton of Tamassee; three sisters, Jewell B. Wilt of Johnstown, Pa., Dovie Lena Hartness of Denver, Colo., and Cherry B. Spencer of Blacksburg; one grandchild, Regina "Niki" Blanton.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Alester McKinney, howard Allen and Norman Philbeck. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is at the home of Tommy Blanton, 143 Shannon Acres Dr., Blacksburg.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Wilt, Barkley Spencer, Jimmy Spencer, Russ Webb, Richard Byars and Ran Bailey.
Memorials may be made to Broad River Baptist Church Building Fund, 419 W. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, S.C. 29702.
White Columns–Blacksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Shiver McCraw
Shiver Lee McCraw, 83, of Spencer, N.C., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, N.C., he was the husband of Joyce Beatty King McCraw, widower of Iris Martin McCraw and son of the late Creola McCraw. He was retired from Duke Power Company’s Buck Steam Plant after 37 years of service and was a U.N. Navy veteran of World War II. He participated in the Normandy invasion and was also stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Spencer where he was a member of the Men’s Bible class. He had served 23 years as church treasurer and had also served as a deacon. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and a former member of the Rowan County Rescue Squad. He was an avid fisherman.
Also surviving are three sons, Dan McCraw of Belmont, N.C., Allen King of Oakboro, N.C., and Dale King of Richfield, N.C.; three daughters, Sharon Cauble of Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Herman Beck of High Point, N.C., and Yvonne Stallings of Surfside Beach; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Max Mills. Burial was in Rowan Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veteran’s Council.
Memorials may be made to Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, 825-A West Henderson St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144 or to Gideon’s International, Salisbury North Camp.
Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, N.C., was in charge.

Walter Pettit
Walter Robert Pettit, 85, of 721 College Dr., died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Doris Patrick Pettit and son of the late James Nathan Pettit and the late Bertha Mae Marsh Pettit. He was a retired textile employee, a Mason and a veteran. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son, Dennis Wayne Pettit of Gaffney; one daughter, Sandra Pettit Gallman of Gaffney; two brothers, Fred Pettit of Charlotte and Niles Pettit of Gaffney; one sister, Winnie Mae Clark of Florence, Ala.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The family is at the residence.
