Leonard Mace
Leonard Mace, 89, of 248 Darwin Rd., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Elizabeth Dillinger Mace and son of the late Joe Lonzo Mace and the late Ellen Clack Mace. He was a retired textile employee and a Jehovah’s Witness.
Surviving are six daughters, Joan Black of Silver Springs, Md., Sybil Shropshire of Chantilley, Va., Barbara Ruppe, Janice Rochester, Linda Pennington, all of Gaffney, and Kathy Hudson of Florence; three sons, Jody Mace, Billy Mace, both of Gaffney, and Johnny Mace of Greenville; one sister, Louise Jones of Gaffney; 26 grandchildren.
The body is at the residence.
Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Johnny Byers.
Pallbearers will be David McSwain, Kevin Rochester, Brian Rochester, Chris Hudson, Sammy Joe Fisher Jr., Dickie Mace, Michael Mace and Whity Jones.

Danny Hawkinberry
Danny Leon Hawkinberry, 54, of 300 Filter Plant Rd., died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at his home.
A native of Clarksburg, W.Va., he was the husband of Nancy Stemple Hawkinberry and son of Lillian Ferrell Hawkinberry and the late Denzil W. Hawkinberry. He was owner of Hawkinberry Auto Sales in Gaffney, was a Vietnam veteran and of the Baptist faith.
Also surviving are one son, Danny Hawkinberry Jr. of the home; one stepson, Jason Stemple of Jacksonville, N.C.; three daughters, Tina Hughes of Catlettsburg, Ky., Tonya Robey of Hilton Head Island and Jennifer Hawkinberry of the home; six grandchildren; one brother, Willard Hawkinberry of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; and one sister, Martha Maston of Gaffney.

Wylie Fowler
Wylie Roger Fowler, 63, of 206 Marietta St., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Nan Virginia Gunn Fowler and son of the late Charlie Fowler and the late Mattie Painter Fowler. He was a retired police officer for the City of Gaffney and was owner of Fowler’s Radiator Shop. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kathy Fowler and Deborah Bolin, both of Gaffney; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Carl Fowler of New York; and two sisters, Alma Sue Childers of Blacksburg and Ann Hummer of Gaffney.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at the residence. The body will remain at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. James Humphries.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bolin, Brian Bell, Heath Bolin, Charlie Wise, Larry Petty and Olin Davidson.
The family is at the residence.

Faye McCarson
Faye Flowers McCarson, 80, formerly of 2797 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Inman.
A native of Bryson City, N.C., she was the widow of Odell McCarson and daughter of the late John Flowers and the late Harriett Corn Flowers. She was a retired textile employee and a retired nurses aid at Mountain View Nursing Home. She was a farmer and homemaker and member of Rocky Face Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth Cantrell of Honea Path, Molly Waddell of Spartanburg, Louise Davis of Shelby and Rebecca McCarson of Cowpens; four sons, George Moore of Rock Hill, Charles Moore of Forest City, Donald McCarson of Chesnee and Billy McCarson of Forest City; one sister, Lilly McIntyre of Canton, N.C.; 30 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by the Rev. Tim Williams. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Helen Crepps
MT. GILEAD, N.C. – Helen Smith Crepps, 79, of 673 DeBarry Rd., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at 1:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter in Troy, N.C., after an extended illness.
A native of Montgomery County, she was the widow of Albert Crepps and daughter of the late H.C. Smith Sr. and Nannie DeBarry Smith. She was a retired employee of Sox Inc. of Mt. Gilead and a lifelong member of Stony Fork Baptist Church.
Services were held today at 11 a.m. at Stony Fork Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Bruton and Flynn Richardson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Benny Crepps of Pittsboro, N.C.; two daughters, Barbara Ross of Gaffney and Brenda McIntyre of Troy; one brother, LaVerne Smith of Mt. Gilead; five sisters, Rachel Warner, Betty Jean Suggs, both of Troy, Bernice Hurley of Maiden, N.C., Irene Nordan and Marcie Greene, both of Mt. Gilead; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchild.

Gus Petty
Gus Petty, 81, of Brookview Healthcare Center, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at 940 a.m. at Brookview.
A native of Rutherford County, N.C., he was the widower of Eva Oglesby Petty and son of the late Laura Petty. He was retired from Duke Power Co. and was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Vertie Petty Hollis of Gaffney; three sons, Robert Petty of Mooresboro, N.C., Frankie Petty and James Howard Petty, both of Gaffney; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillie Mae Sarratt of Avondale, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Bertha Oglesby of Shelby; one brother-in-law, King Watkins of Gastonia.
Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Suck Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tony Macomson. Burial will be in Suck Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Edward Webster, Michael Howell, Harold Fair, Luther Savage, Carl Dawkins and M.J. Phillips.
Flower bearers will be Lonnie Bridges, Francis Dawkins, Bertha Phillips, Malene Rodriques, Shirley Smith and Ida Wilson.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Vertie Petty Hollis, 400 Oxford St.

Howard Adair
SPARTANBURG – Howard Arthur Adair, 85, of Magnolia Manor of Inman, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Polk County, N.C., he was the widower of Nellie Mae Blanken Adair and son of the late Arthur L. and Emma Durham Adair. He worked at Drayton and Converse Mills for almost 50 years and was a Baptist.
Survivors include four daughters, Patsy Barlett of Arcadia, Mabel Cantrell of Spartanburg, Carolyn Camp of Drayton and Trudy Millwood of Cowpens; five sons, Dean Adair of Lyman, Robert Adair and Douglas Adair, both of Cowpens, Gene Adair and William Adair, both of Converse; one brother, Hubert Adair of Union Mills, N.C.; four sisters, Myrtle Moore of Laurens, Bertha Dudeck, Ozie Clark and Elsie Cash, all of Gaffney; 23 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today at noon in Good Shepherd Memorial Park with the Rev. Randall White officiating.
Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel is in charge.
Rev. John Wren Sr.
Services for Rev. John Everette Wren Sr., 84, of Peachtree Centre, were held today at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Joel Sellers, Drs. John Wren and Joe Wren. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Wren, Joel Wren, Jace Wren, Joseph Wren, Tim Wren and Brian Wren.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Sunday School class.
