Claude Bowman Jr.
Claude A. (Bo) Bowman Jr., 70, of 113 Ridgeway Dr., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at his home.
Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., he was the husband of Maxine Kiziah Bowman and son of the late Claude A. Bowman Sr. and the late Birdell Sutton Bowman. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a salesman for S&H Green Stamps.
Also surviving are one son, Ryan Bowman of Seneca; two daughters, Kim Newlen of Richmond, Va., and Shawn Hicks of Winston-Salem; one sister, Doris Wright of Hickory, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services were held today at 11 a.m at First Baptist Church Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joel Sellers. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
The family is at the residence.

Liane Isler
BLACKSBURG – Liane Isler, 92, of 282 Craton Rd., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of James Craton Isler and daughter of the late James Leon and Una Byars Batchler. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Edward C. Isler of the home; two daughters, Dorothy I. Whelchel and Mary Anne I. Moore, both of Blacksburg; one brother, James D. Batchler of Blacksburg; six sisters, Leatha Moss of Shelby, Flossie Allen of Gaffney, Elsie Peterson, Wilma White, Thelma Philbeck and Catherine Borders, all of Blacksburg; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Milledge Batchler and Alexander "Buddy" Batchler, and two sisters, Ollie B. Lanier and Madeline B. Upchurch.
Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at White Columns conducted by the Revs. Tony Fulbright, James Price and Scottie Bell. Burial was in Clingman Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Chucky Harrison, Roger Batchler, Michael Borders, Johnny Ledford, Ronnie Batchler and Albert Peterson.

Kathy Fowler
Kathy Marie Fowler, 45, of 117 Kraft St., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of Nannie G. Fowler of Gaffney and the late Wylie "Bob" Fowler. She was first married to James Owensby of Gaffney. She was a lab technician with Hoechst Celanese in Spartanburg and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother and Mr. Owensby, are one daughter, Kelli Owensby Bell of Gaffney; one sister, Deborah Bolin of Gaffney; one granddaughter, Brianna Bell.
In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Mark Fowler.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. James Humphries.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bolin, Heath Bolin, Brian Bell, Charlie Wise, Ray Martin and Paul Fowler.
Friends may visit the family at 206 Marietta St.

Ola Millwood
Ola Maebelle Osment Millwood, 89, of 3059 Pacolet Hwy., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at 3079 Pacolet Hwy.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Charlie Millwood and daughter of the late Oscar Osment and the late Janie Millwood Osment. She was a homemaker and member of Blue Branch Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Lunette Ross and Ruby Williams, both of Gaffney; two sons, William "Bill" Millwood and Ervin Millwood, both of Gaffney; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Osment and Albert Osment, both of Gaffney.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Millwood.

James Crook
BLACKSBURG – James Edward Crook, 72, of 112 Sunset Dr., died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, N.C., he was the husband of Nellie Crocker Crook and son of the late John and Gertrude Bratton Crook Sr. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Also surviving are one son, Ronald E. Crook of Blacksburg; three daughters, Julie E. Crook and Deborah A. Crook, both of Blacksburg, and Robin C. Hill of Gaffney; one brother, John Bell Crook Jr. of the Antioch community of Blacksburg; one sister, Mag Black of the Antioch community of Blacksburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Clingman Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joel Gardner officiating.

Bradley Tyler Lopez, infant, of 307 Poplar St., died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Surviving are his parents, Ruben Lopez and Jaime Carroll Orr of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Owens of Gaffney; maternal great-grandmothers, Linda Carroll and Cassandra Owens, both of Gaffney; paternal grandmother, Antonia Lopez of Mexico City, Mexico; and paternal grandfather, Gabriel Ruiz of Mexico City, Mexico.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery with Ashby Blakely officiating.

Jerry Gaffney Sr.
Jerry Haskell Gaffney Sr., 59, of 1238 Victory Trail Rd., died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at his home.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late F.P. Gaffney and the late Lydia Fowler Gaffney. He was a retired self-employed utility contractor and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Sherri Gaffney McAbee of Gaffney; two sons, Donald Eugene Gaffney of Marietta, Ga., and Jerry Haskell Gaffney II of Gaffney; four sisters, Corrine Owens of Greensboro, N.C., Dora Blanton of Shelby, Patsy James of Kernersville, N.C., and Freida Holmes of Gaffney; two brothers, Carroll Gaffney of Gaffney and Larry Gaffney of Mt. View, Ark.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel in Shelby conducted by the Revs. Sidney Norton and Harold Dean Painter.
The family is at the residence, 1238 Victory Trail, Gaffney.

Myrtle Coffey Douglas, 96, of 801 S. Limestone St., died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of George W. Douglas and daughter of the late Claude Coffey and the late Emma Bryant Broome. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are one son, W.R. "Bobby" Douglas of Gaffney; one daughter, Ann Kovacic of Beaver, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Joel Sellers.
Pallbearers will be Dean Ross, Buddy McCraw, George Douglas, Bobby Douglas, Robbie Douglas and Jerry Bobair.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.

Irene P. Gossett
Gaffney native
Irene Painter Gossett, 72, of 131 Great Meadows Rd., died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Brookview Healthcare Center.
Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Wells R. Gossett and daughter of the late William June Painter and the late Estelle Godfrey Painter. She as a retired textile employee and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Lisa Gossett Smiley of Gaffney and Nicole Marie Gossett of the home; three sons, Jeffrey Lynn Gossett of Rock Hill, Timothy D. Gossett of Gaffney and Ross Wells Gossett Jr. of Blacksburg; two sisters, Nell Painter Blanton and Evelyn Painter Farish, both of Gaffney; two brothers, James Walter Painter of Gaffney and Earl Painter of Bowie, Md.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by Dr. Paul Noe and the Rev. Stuart Kersey. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George Jones, Tommy Eaker, Bill Clary, Jim Bullock, Gerald Henderson and Conrad Barnhill.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Temple Baptist Church along with members of Mr. Gossett’s Sunday School Class.
