Garland S. Simons Sr.

Garland Selvester Simons Sr., 50, of 112 Sycamore St., died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 4:20 p.m. at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Albemarle, N.C., he was the son of the late Leroy Parker Simons and the late Francis B. Simons. He was a former employee of Gaffney Manufacturing Company.
Surviving are his wife, Carleen Wilkins Simons of the home; two sons, Garland Simons Jr. and John Cunningham of Gaffney; two stepsons, Jackie Jefferies and Curtis Wilkins of Gaffney; four step daughters, Merchell Harris, Geneva Wilkins, Teresa Wilkins and Melissa Wilkins of Gaffney.

Melba S. Adams

Melba Smith Adams, 92, of 2370 Martin Rd., Hickory Grove, widow of Green Adams, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 8:45 a.m. at White Oak Manor, York.
Daughter of the late Riley Smith and the late Sarah Smith, she was a native of York County and served as custodian at Broad River Baptist Church in Smyrna for over 30 years. She was a member of Jones Chapel Fire Baptize Holiness Church in Hickory Grove and was a former member of Smith Chapel Fire Baptize Holiness Church. She was an ordained minister of the gospel.
Surviving are a foster son she reared, Samuel Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Tryphena S. Jefferson of Blacksburg; six nieces and nephews she reared as her own – Winifred Gaffney, Timouthy Jefferson, both of Baltimore, Md., Marlene Rochelle Smith of Blacksburg, Robert Covington of Charlotte, Janice Boswell of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Brenda Johnson of Largo, Md.
The family is at the home, 2370 Martin Rd., Hickory Grove.

Christine Walker, 78, of 2202 Bailey Rd., Mooresboro, NC, widow of Chris Amos Walker, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Daughter of the late Silas Crate and the late Janie Surratt, she was a native of Cherokee County and a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was retired from Gardner-Webb College.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Walker; five sons, Charles Walker, Gene Walker, Chris Walker, Thomas Lewis Walker and Silas Walker; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services for M.B. Wood, 80, of 109 Allenwood Rd., Pacolet, will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Gowdeysville Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Duane Cooper, Jerry Manning and Jennifer Hemphill. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m.

Services for Alice Faye Blanton Lane, 60, of 210 Camellia Circle, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Roger Mason. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Gaffney native
GREENVILLE – Bob Tillman Mosley, 49, died May 31, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, N.C.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Blakley and Helen Coyle Mosley and was retired from the State Highway Department. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Lynn Tremblay Mosley; maternal aunt, Colleen King of Charlotte; and paternal aunt, Gracie Jolly of Gaffney.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary School Computer Lab Fund, 2 James Dr., Greenville, S.C. 29605.

Joseph D. Bailey

Joseph Dwain Bailey, 66, of 1617 Overbrook Dr., died Thursday, June 5, 2003, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
A native of Mooresboro, N.C., he was the husband of Ruby Janice Easler Bailey and son of Doris Humphries Bailey of Gaffney and the late Charles Broughton Bailey. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic at Sanders Brothers and was a member of Midway Baptist Church and the Jim Swofford Sunday School Class. He was a veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Amelia Bailey Davis of Blacksburg; a son, Joseph Dwaine Bailey Jr. of Blacksburg; three brothers, Keith Bailey, Don Bailey and Tom Higgins, all of Gaffney; three sisters, Mary Ann Robinson of Rock Hill, Darlene Timms of Kings Mountain and Alice Higgins of Gaffney; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by a brother, Maxwell Bailey.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Danny Emory. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Sanders Brothers and the Jim Swofford Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.

Ansel E. Cooley Sr.
President, board member of Spartanburg Co. Farm Bureau
CHESNEE – Ansel Edward Cooley Sr., 78, of 8195 Parris Bridge Rd., died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Husband of Betty S. Cooley, he was the son of the late Perry Edmond Cooley and Ruby Nantz Cooley. He was a member of Cooley Springs Baptist Church and served as president and board member of the Spartanburg County Farm Bureau and a district commissioner of the Spartanburg County Soil and Conservation. He was a co-founder of Forest Lawn Mortuary.
Also surviving are a son, Edward Cooley Jr., of Chesnee; a sister, Cathryn C. Pettit of Spartanburg; and a brother, Gene Cooley of Chesnee.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cooley Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Hedgpeth and C. Ray Lewis. Burial will be in Springhill Memorials Gardens.
The family will receive family and friends tonight from 6:30-8:30 at Eggers Funeral Home, Chesnee.
