ELKHORN CITY, Ky. - Leslie J. Anderson, 85, of 245 Hatcher St., husband of Mary Bigg Anderson, died at his home Thursday, March 14, 2002, after a brief illness.
Mr. Anderson was born in Hellier, Ky., on Feb. 5, 1917 a son of the late Perry J. Anderson and Alpha Potter Anderson. He was an accountant.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Leslie S. Anderson of Union, Francis William Anderson of Lexington, Ky., and Gregory Ray Anderson of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Ferne A. Bird of Daytona Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Anderson was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Gene Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Elkhorn City Christian Church of Christ conducted by the Rev. Billy Ford. Burial will be in the Elkhorn City Cemetery.
Visitation was held at 6 p.m. Friday at Elkhorn City Christian Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elkhorn City Christian Church of Christ, Elkhorn City, Ky., 41522; or to Hospice of Pike County.

Altie V. Baber

LOCKHART - Altie Vanderford Baber, 96, widow of John William Baber Sr., of 309 North Second St., died at her home on Sunday, March 17, 2002, at 8:50 p.m.
Mrs. Baber was born in Union on March 6, 1906, a daughter of the late Jim and Etta Blackwood Vanderford. She was a member of Union Church of Christ. Mrs. Baber was formerly employed in the canteen with Milliken & Company, Excelsior Plant.
Mrs. Baber was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia B. Gibson of Lockhart, Kathryn Baber and Cheryl B. Lowe, both of Union and Judy B. Kerr of Jonesville; a son, Wayne Baber of Union; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. and three special friends, Dianne Thompson, Louise Gibson and April Wright. Mrs. Baber was predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline Gwen "Jackie" Baber Reep; two son, James Robert "Bob" Baber and John William "Bud" Baber Jr.; and a great-grandson, Jared Tyler Cudd.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Union Church of Christ conducted by Minister Curtis Gilbert, Minister Jesse Ham Jr. and Gary Ham. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
The body will remain at the funeral home and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Patricia B. Gibson, 309 North Second St., Lockhart and will receive friends at Rosemont Cemetery immediately following the service.

Roy H. Baldwin, 88, widower of Grace Wade Baldwin of 1003 East Main St., Union, died at his home on Sunday, March 17, 2002, after an extended illness.
Mr. Baldwin was born in Union on Dec. 31, 1913, a son of the late John E. Baldwin Sr. and Molly Millwood Baldwin. He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, Rutledge Masonic Lodge #351 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. Mr. Baldwin was retired from Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance Company.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Ernestine Baldwin of Prosperity; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Baldwin of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Jeanette Maness of Union; and five grandchildren, Gregg Baldwin, Randy Baldwin and Chris Baldwin, all of Orlando, Fla., Brandy Crocker of Prosperity and Brian Crocker of Union.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green and Mr. Charley Hughes. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Members of the Earl Fowler Sunday School Class are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 and will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service.

BALTIMORE, Md. - Herbert Alexander Bome, husband of Mrs. Aileen Jeter Fair Bome, died Feb. 23, 2002. Funeral services were held March 2, 2002 in Baltimore, Md.
He was the brother-in-law of Barbara Epps, Joyce Falls, Ethel Rice and Larry Jeter, all of Union.

PACOLET - Lee Sims Oakman, 64, of 130 Liberty Ridge Drive, husband of Donna Young Oakman, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at his home.
A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Dewey Lee and Annie Sims Oakman and a stepson of the late Zera Gilliam Oakman. He was owner and operator of Oakman TV. He attended Carlisle Military Academy and Wofford College. He attended Glendale Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Laurie Ann Oakman of Spartanburg, Susan O. Williams and her husband, Terry, of Landrum, Amy O. Green and her husband, Jerry, of Campobello; a son, Lee Bradham Oakman of Landrum; two stepsons, Chip Belue and Mick Belue and his wife, Kristy, all of Union; three sisters, Betty Hodson of Boone, N.C., Katie Sterba of Florida and June Thomas of Charleston; and 12 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Kenny Moore, Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens.

William Fred Southers
Retired master sergeant
SEATTLE, Wash. - William Fred Southers, 87, died March 16, 2002 in Seattle, WA.. He was born Aug. 10, 1914 in Columbia, S. C., the son of Arthur and Florence (Gallman) Southers.
He was retired from the United State Air Force as a Master Sergeant serving in WWII in C.B.I. Following his military career, he was a police officer for both the University of S. Florida and The Tampa International Airport. Active in Temple Terrace Lodge 240 in Tampa, FL. and the Order of the Easter Start Chapter 277.
Surviving are: his wife of 62 and a half years, Esther Southers; two daughter, E. Suzanne Knoblet and Arnette Rattleff; grandchildren, Rebecca and Carolyn Rattleff and four great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p. m. at Evergreen-Washelli Chapel, 11111 Aurora Ave., N. Seattle.

Biron B. "Jake" Vaughan, 73, of 111 Kennedy Circle, husband of Peggy Crawford Vaughan, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Vaughan was born in Union on Sept. 28, 1928, a son of the late Charles Douglass and Bessie Lawson Vaughan. He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Eagle Grocery and Gulf Oil Distributors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He was a Shriner and a Mason and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Debbie Lynn Crain of Moncks Corner; a son and daughter-in-law, Biron S. "Simp" and Patty Vaughan of Buffalo; a sister, Hazel Vaughan Moore of Union; a brother, Charles William "Spud" Vaughan of Whitmire; six grandchildren, Shannon and Clay Brock, Heather Graham, Megan and Whitney Vaughan and Jeannie Swank; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey Brock, Corey Swank and Lilly Graham. Mr. Vaughan was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Lee Davis, and a brother, Paul Vaughan.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church by the Rev. Barry Ellis and the Rev. Bennie Green. Burial will be in the Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Vaughan, Paul Greer, Dennis Moore, Michael Tyler, Robbie branham and Marvin Pound.
