PAULINE - Eula Virginia Thornton, 86, formerly of 110 Foster Mill Circle, Pauline, died March 26, 2002 at Mountain View Nursing Home.
A native of Glenn Springs, she was a daughter of the late Samuel C. Thornton Sr. and Annie Mae Cannon Thornton. She was retired from Raycord and was a lifelong member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Teaster of Pacolet and Sandra Jennings of Pauline; two sons, Leonard Thornton of West Springs and Billy Thornton of Pacolet; two sisters, Ruby Carter of Pacolet and Mary A. Thornton of Pauline; a brother, James Thornton of Brandon, FL; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchlldren.
The family will receive friends from 11 a. m. until 12:20 p. m. Thursday at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church where the body will lie in state. Graveside services will follow at 2 p. m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit.

Health specialist
Marvin Eugene Lyles, 45, of 108 Williams St., died March 27, 2002 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The son of Wardell and Barbara Lyles, he was born March 22, 1957 in Union.
He graduated from Union High School and attended South Carolina State University. He worked as a certified Health Specialist for the S. C. Department of Mental Health in Columbia. He was a member of Brooklyn Baptist Church in Columbia where he sang in the Men's Chorus.
Surviving in addition to his parents are: four sisters, Belinda Jennings and Beverly (W. T.) Williams of Columbia; Vivian (Charles) Lott of Union and Alfreda Heidt of Atlanta; two brothers, David Lyles of Union and Jerry McNeal of Aliquippa, PA; a nephew, Charles Lott Jr. of Union; a niece, Ebony N. Williams of Columbia; his grandmother, Ellen Jones of Union.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at St. Paul Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. A. L. Brackett. Burial will be in St. Paul Society Cemetery.
The Union High School Class of 1975 will serve as honorary escort and are asked to assemble at the church at 1:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the home, 108 Williams St. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a. m. until 8 p. m. and Saturday from 8 a. m. until noon. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p. m. to await the hour of service.

Elaine Alma McBride, 61, of 501 South McQueen St., Florence, a former resident of Jonesville, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 at 9:27 p.m. in Carolina Hospital.
Ms. McBride was born in Jonesville on July 20, 1940, a daughter of the late Lewis and Edith Horne McBride. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was formerly employed with City Motors in Jonesville.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas L. "Tom-Tom" Simmons Jr. and Angie McGowan Simmons of Union and Christopher Todd Simmons and Pamela Lawson Simmons of Woodruff and formerly of Jonesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Simmons Rose and Marcus Rose of Union; a sister, Brea McBride of Union; two brothers, Friday McBride and Randy McBride, both of Jonesville; six grandchildren: Sonya Sinclair of Buffalo, Shannon Manibusan, Ashley Simmons and Amber Simmons all of Jonesville, April Simmons and Zachary Simmons both of Union; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Sinclair of Buffalo, Novah Manibusan and Little Matt Manibusan, both of Jonesville. Ms. McBride was predeceased by a brother, Louie McBride.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel conducted by the Rev. Randy Smith.

KILLEEN, TEXAS - Memorial services for Joyce C. Brooks, 62, of Killeen, Texas were held this morning at 10 at the First Baptist Church in Killeen.
Mrs. Brooks was born Oct. 27, 1939 in Union, the daughter of Lewis M. Clark and Louise Posey Clark.
She was president of the NCO wives club and a former employee of Winns Department Store. She was a great lady and will be missed. She was married to her husband, retired SFC Jack E. Brooks, for 47 years and two months.
Surviving in addition to her husband are: a son, Jack E. Brooks Jr. of Killeen; a daughter, Debbie Burton of Killeen; a brother, L. Gene Clark of Columbia, S. C.; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Virginia Phillips Medlock, 72, widow of Fred Medlock, a former resident of Union, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in the McDowell Nursing Home in Nebo, N.C.
Mrs. Medlock was born in Savannah, Ga., on June 29, 1929, a daughter of the late Percy and Frances Alexander Phillips. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Medlock Gossett of Spartanburg and Ellen Vess of Beaufort; four sons, Thomas Medlock Jr. of St. Helen's Island, William Medlock of Campobello, James Medlock of Beaufort and Keith Medlock of Spartanburg; two sisters and a brother and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd.
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the graveside services.

Donald A. Boulware Sr.
Korean Conflict veteran
Donald Andrew Boulware Sr., 70, of Lowe's Trailer Park, Union, husband of Dorothy Roark Boulware, died at his home Sunday morning, March 31, 2002.
Mr. Boulware was born in Union on May 2, 1931, a son of the late Ross Boulware Sr. and Opal Hunsinger Boulware. He was formerly employed with the State of South Carolina. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict and was former member of the U.S. Army Reserve.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a sister, Mary Ellen B. Trammell of Union; two daughters; two sons, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery with military honors.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6-8.

Florine S. Gallman

Florine Sherbert Gallman, 86, of 1583 Kelly Road, widow of R.E. Gallman Sr., died Monday, April 1, 2002 at 1:25 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Gallman was born in Spartanburg County on Sept. 23, 1915, a daughter of the late Roland and Leila Belcher Sherbert. She was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a charter member of the W.S.C.S. of the church and was a former Sunday School teacher.
Mrs. Gallman was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Acie Blanton and Betty and Earl Atkinson, all of Union; a son and daughter-in-law, R.E. Gallman Jr. and Clara Gallman of Union; four grandchildren, Jeff Atkinson, Linda Jolly and Andrea Justice of Union and Buddy Gallman of Chester and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Linda Jolly, 1671 Kelly Road, Union.

Virginia Shirley Redmon, 81, of 202 John St., widow of Ralph James Redmon Sr., died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at 10 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Redmon was born in Union on April 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Frazier and Ruth Middlebrooks Shirley. She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, the Winnie Couch Circle and the Jimmy Smith Sunday School Class. Mrs. Redmon was formerly employed with Milliken & Company, Monarch Plant.
Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Mary Redmon of Monroe, N.C. and Michael and Rebekah Redmon of Goose Creek; two sisters, Ethel Russell and Doretha Goodson, both of Union; a brother, Freddie Shirley of Union; a sister-in-law, Mable Eaves of Union; six grandchildren: Vickie Strickland, Monty Redmon, Randy Redmon, Michelle Shaak, Francis Uhrich Jr. and Alison Johnson; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Redmon was predeceased by a granddaughter, Wendy Redmon and a sister, Marjorie S. Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green, the Rev. James Crocker and the Rev. Bobby Crocker. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Monty Redmon, Randy Redmon, John Shaak, Clint Goodson, Walter Strickland and Dennis Russell.
