Rosa Lee Lawrence Nave, 63, wife of Leldon Nave, of 264 Vernon Foster Rd., died May 20, 2002, at 5:35 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Mrs. Nave was born in Orangeburg on March 6, 1939, a daughter of the late Grover C. and Linda Fox Lawrence. She was a member of the Union Church of God and the Brenda Berry Sunday School Class. Mrs. Nave was formerly employed with Hardee's and was retired from the Bantam Chef. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald C. (Cleve) and Pam Perry Nave of Prosperity; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda N. and Eddie Duncan of Union; five grandchildren, Kelly Allison, Jessica Elaine Nave, Phillip Stephen Nave, Seth Perry Nave and Rebecca Ann Nave. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Union Church of God by Rev. Alton Stone and Rev. Lacy Jones. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Kent Foster, Michael Nave, Johnny Nave, Trip Duncan, Tim Martin and Brandon Sinclair. Members of Brenda Berry's Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. The body will be placed in Union Church of God tonight at 7:45 where the family will receive friends from 8-9:30. The family is at the home, 264 Vernon Foster Rd., Union. The S.R. Quenton P. Savage
UHS Class of 2002
Quenton P. Savage, 18, son of William Clowney and Joyce Ann Savage, died in an automobile accident in Georgia May 19, 2002. He was a member of the Union High School Class of 2002 and a member of the Union High football team. Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Cierra Savage; his grandmother, Mrs. Janie Clowney; a special friend, LaShonda Thomas and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry Clowney and Mr. and Mrs. George Savage. The family is at the home of his mother, Joyce Ann Savage, 118 Horseshoe Circle, Union, and at the home of his father, William Clowney, 120 Aqua Lane, Union. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Union Community Funeral Home.
Jerel Eugene Brandon
2001 Union High graduate
Jerel Eugene Brandon, 19, of 503 McLure St., died in a car accident in Georgia May 19, 2002.
The son of Howard and Cathy Brandon, he was born in Union County March 7, 1983. He was a 2001 graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College. He was a member of the Union High School 1999 and 2000 Class 3-A State Championship Football Teams. He attended Woodson Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Shakira Brandon of Union.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at Woodson Chapel Baptist Church conducted by Minister Eric Kershaw. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence. Mourners may stop by the Gibson & Brown Funeral Home to sign the guest register as there will be no public viewing.

James R. Ruth
UHS Class of 2001
James Robert Ruth, 19, of 119 Hillside Dr., died May 19, 2002.
Born in Union County on Sept. 6, 1983, he was the son of Robert and Paula Ruth. James was a graduate of Union High School Class of 2001. He attended South Carolina State University. James was a member of Union High School's 1999 and 2000 Class 3-A State Championship Football Teams.
Surviving in addition to his parents of the home are a brother, Marcus J. Ruth of Union; grandparents, Willie and Patricia Ruth of Union; great-grandparents, J.T. and Maggie B. Walton, Eliza M. Ruth, Tom Ruth and Lewis and Dorothy Rice all of Union.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Union High School by the Rev. Waddell Gault. Burial will be in the St. Paul Society Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 119 Hillside Dr., Union.
Mourners may stop by the funeral home to sign the guest register as there will be no viewing of the body.
Union High School football players are asked to be at the gym by 10:30 a. m. and are requested to wear their football jerseys.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - William Glen Sanders, 74, of Charlotte, N.C., died May 21, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
Mr. Sanders was born in Chester County. He was a discharged veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Sanders was employed for many years as a roofer and truck driver.
Surviving are a son, Everett Hoover of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Wilean Moore of Union; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lockhart Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Union. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at the funeral home.

CHARLOTTE - Mary Doris Gregory Frazier, 85, wife of Samuel Alfred Frazier, of Charlotte, died May 24, 2002.
The daughter of Annie and Starks Gregory of Union, she was retired from Consolidated Coin Caterers.
Surviving in addition to her husband are: two daughters, Barbara Ann Teal and Donna Frazier Brim; three sisters, Deanie Blackwood and Bonnie Eaves and Ruth Cohen of Union; two brothers, Gene Gregory of Union and Robert Gregory of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at River Hills Community Church in Charlotte.

Mary Louise Knox Horne, 83, of 178 Georgia Road, wife of Johnnie Horne, died at her home on Saturday, May 25, 2002, at 11 p.m. after an extended illness. Mrs. Horne was born in Cherokee County on May 19, 1919, a daughter of the late Clifford and Dora Ramsey Parris. She was a member of The Greater Union Church. She was retired from J.P. Stevens Company, Jonesville Plant.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Geraline K. Pruitt of Kelton, Brenda A. Rollins of Buffalo and Ginger K. Greer of Union; two stepdaughters, Laura Stegall of Union and Cathy H. Williams of Virginia; a stepson, Billy Horne of Union; eight grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Paul V. Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Greater Union Church conducted by Dr. John J. Cody and the Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Ricky Jolly, Wesley Pruitt, Chris Fowler, Richard McKelvey, Harold Coleman and Kenneth Palmer.
The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Brett Burgess, Phillip Cody, Wayne Todd, Bobby Brown and Anthony Shetley.

WHITMIRE - Milum Lawson, 70, husband of Willie C. Lawson of 899 Little Egypt Road, died May 25, 2002, in the Baptist Hospital in Columbia.
He was born in Lee County, Va., the son of the late George Quillen and Synthia Lawson.
He was a retired machine operator from Torrington Bearing Co., a member and deacon of the Grace Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Rosoboro Masonic Lodge and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: two sons, Curtis Lawson and his wife, Terry, and Gary Quillen Lawson and his wife, Lisa, all of Whitmire; a daughter, Synthia J. Sinclair of Whitmire; a daughter-in-law, Susan Lawson of Whitmire and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Milum Jeffrey Lawson Sr., and two sisters, Dollie Stircikland and Lucy Stroud.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at Grace Baptist Church with burial in the Whitmire Cemetery.
The family received friends at the home Sunday evening.

Mary Mobley Mathis, 80, of 1305 Jonesville Highway, Union, widow of Louie M. Mathis, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at 10:30 p.m. in Allen Bennett Hospital in Greer after an extended illness.
Mrs. Mathis was born in Union on Feb.10, 1922, a daughter of the late Jack and Annie Mae Tucker Mobley. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Mathis was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha and David Yarbrough of Union and Suzette Northern of the home; a son, Thomas Mathis of Union; a sister, Clara Peigler of Charleston; six grandchildren, Beth Weltman, Joey Northern, Misty Northern, Matthew Northern, Michael Yar-brough and Jason Yarbrough; and nine great-grandchildren, David Yarbrough, Eric Yarbrough, Tiffnay Crumley, Lee Moss, Dustin Weltman, Blake Northern, Maleah Adams, Parker Northern and Chandler Northern. Mrs. Mathis was predeceased by a sister and two brothers, Elizabeth Mobley, William Mobley and Daniel Mobley.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Barry Ellis. Grandsons and great-grandsons will be active pallbearers.
The body will remain the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m.

Wayne Rogers Murphy Sr., 72, of 612 Sweetleaf Court, Cantonment, Fla., husband of Margaret Puckett Murphy, former residents of Union, died Sunday, May 26, 2002 at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., after an extended illness.
Mr. Murphy was born in Spartanburg County on May 16, 1930, a son of the late Paul Vernon Murphy and Ida Elizabeth Rogers Murphy. He was a former member of New Life Baptist Church and a member of Rutledge Masonic Lodge #351, the American Legion and a member of the 27th Infantry, 25th Division, Wolfhounds. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army and was formerly employed with Conso Products and was retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Suzy M. and Dennis Linder of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Andrea M. Murphy of Union and Wayne Rogers Jay Murphy Jr. and Pam M. Murphy of Jonesville; two sisters, Daisy Gregory of Union and Irene Penldleton of Jonesville; four grandchildren, Kayla Murphy, Valerie Sprouse, Kacey Linder and Mandy Camby; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Belue, Eric Camby and Kyle Caldwell. Mr. Murphy was predeceased by a sister and brother, Hilda Johnson and Robert Murphy.
