DONALDS — Bessie Garrett, 102, of 434 Olin Smith Road died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Holloway’s Funeral Home of Belton.
The family will be at the home and at the home of her daughter, Vivian Makin, 440 Olin Smith Road, Donalds.
Gaines, Lena
HARTWELL, Ga. — Lena Mae Hilley Gaines, 86, of 261 Fairview Ave. died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Hart Care Center of Hartwell.
Born in Franklin County, she was a retired warehouse worker employed with Toy King Distribution and also cared for children in her home. She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Sharon Craft of Hartwell; brother, Charlie B. Hilley of Canon; sister, Frances Marion Sanders of Longwood, Fla,; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Charles Samuel Gaines and the daughter of the late Marion Francis and Sallie T. Kinley Hilley. She was preceded in death by two sons, Gordon and Charles Gaines; three brothers, Jack, Bennie F. and James Hilley; and three sisters, Fleeta Sewell, Aileen Starrett and Jean Hendrix.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, by the Revs. Kagey Barrow and Randall Starrett and Doug Brown; burial will be in Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home of Alton and Sharon Craft, 361 Collier Road, Hartwell, Ga. 30643.
Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund, 440 E. Howell St., Hartwell, Ga. 30643.
Dunn, James E.
ABBEVILLE — James E. Dunn, 74, of 514 S.C. 71, husband of Mae Todd Dunn, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Melrose Cemetery with the Revs. David Cobb and James R. Alewine officiating. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the home of Ricky and Nancy Dunn, 1083 Stevenson Road, Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Carver, David
CARNESVILLE, Ga. — David Edward “Leroy” Carver, 48, of 1300 Plainview Road died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., he was a poultry worker with Fieldale Farms. He was a member of the Church of God in Thee Now, in Newton, N.C.
Surviving are mother, Viola Grace Wise Carver of Knoxville; daughter, Daisy Maevell Carver of Newton; and a sister, Gina Thomas of Knoxville.
He was the son of the late Edward Leroy Carver.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jonathan Swing.
Friends and family visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ginn Funeral Home.
Anderson, Judith
Judith Anderson of 23312 White Harbour Road died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Seneca Mortuary, Seneca.
Anderson, Cran
ELBERTON, Ga. — Cran Anderson, 82, of 1397 Double Bridges Road died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in the Hart County Hospital.
Born in Elbert County, he was a retired farmer and a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church.
Surviving are brother, Frank Parks Anderson of Lilburn and sisters, Betty Greenway of Elberton and Alvia Smith of Anderson.
He was the son of the late William Frank and Lucy Gaines Anderson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer “Preach” Anderson; and two sisters, Mildred Todd and Clara Malone.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at the Coldwater United Methodist Church by the Rev. Nancy Morgan. The body is at Hicks Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday until the hour of service.
The family is at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Greenway.
Tucker, Verna
IVA - Verna Mae Clemons Tucker, 89, of 4501 Flat Rock Road, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Johnson Funeral Home, Anderson.
The family is at the home of her son, Leon Tucker, 3220 Flat Rock Road, Iva.
Waddell Jr., Horace
Born in Laurens County, he was a graduate of Laurens High School, and attended Clemson College. He taught in the Vocational Education Department of Laurens and Abbeville County Schools for 40 years. After retirement he worked several years with the USDA as a livestock grader. He was a U.S Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Lions Club of Abbeville, where he was a past President, a member of Foothills, and Piedmont Seniors Golf Association. He was a member of Southern Squares Dance Group, and a former director of High Meadows Golf Club. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Abbeville, where he had served as a deacon, and was a member of the Bible Study Class.
Surviving are widow, Dorothy Moore Waddell of the home; daughter, Jolee Waddell Beaver of Abbeville; and sisters, Miriam Waddell of Washington, D.C., Betty W. Blalock of Wilson, N.C., and Carolyn W. Cook of Laurens.
He was the son of the late Horace Fred Waddell Sr. and Eva Compton Waddell.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church by the Revs. Reiny Koschel and Wayne Wiggins; burial will be in Long Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home.
The family suggests memorials be made to The First Baptist Church Building Fund, N. Main St., Abbeville, S.C. 29620, or to the Lions Club.
Standridge, William Jeremy 'Billy'
TOWNVILLE - William Jeremy Standridge, 29, of 421 Dogwood Lane, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was employed by Piedmont Natural Gas, and was a part-time auto mechanic. He was a member of the Double Springs Fire Department, where he served as a 2nd Lt. with five years of service. He was also a Rookie of the Year in 1999 and Firefighter of the Year in 2000.
Surviving are widow, Sandra Diane Elgin Standridge of the home; parents, Larry Clayton Standridge and Deborah Jean Fowler Standridge, both of Townville; stepson, John Eric Nix of Elmire, N.Y.; stepdaughters, Shannon Hines of Flowermount, Texas, Teresa Elaine Burnette of Elmire, N.Y., Karen Nix of Spartanburg, and Sharon Nix of Royal Oak, Mich.; brothers, Michael Paul Standridge and Larry Scott Standridge, both of Townville; sister, Jennifer Jean Standridge of Townville; grandparent, Byrd Fowler of Sandy Springs; and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jewell Ann Brown Fowler, Clayton Standridge, Leila Irene Standridge, and James Henry Clayton.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Oakdale Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel Blizzard and Chaplin Pelham Medlock; burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday.
The family will be at 101 Double Springs Road, Townville.
Staggs, Rudy
BELTON - Rudolph F. Staggs, 66, of 115 Simpson Road, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was retired from Duke Power. He served in the U.S. State Air Force and the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are brother, Robert Staggs of Anderson; and sisters, Shelby Jean Cloud and Betty Bridges, both of Pelzer.
He was the son of the late Walter Staggs and Ruth Kay Staggs.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home
The family will be at the home of Darrell and Teresa Staggs, 113 Simpson Road, Belton.
Simpkins, Ludie
Ludie Simpkins, 85, of 611 E. Hampton St., Anderson, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Calhoun Falls, she attended Glover's AME Church.
Surviving are daughters, Carrie Simpkins of Anderson, and Lucille Simpkins of Columbia; sisters, Azalee Cowans, Marie Bell, and Johnnie Simmons, all of Abbeville; and two grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Willie Simpkins and Lizzie Wilson Simpkins Raindrop. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Simpkins; and a brother, John Wesley Raindrop.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Annie-Frank Memorial chapel of Johnson Funeral Home; interment will be in Westview Cemetery.
Shaw, Ida
BELTON - Ida Mae Shaw, of 810 Anderson St., died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Richland County Hospital, Columbia.

SENECA - The Rev. Floyd Wilson Putnam, 86, of 138 Seniors Way, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Oconee Memorial Hospital, Seneca.
