Annie Mae Buice
Methodist

Annie Mae Knox Buice, 85, widow of Albert Buice, of 1210 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, died at her home Aug. 10, 2002, at 4:30 p.m. after an extended illness.

Mrs. Buice was born in Union County on May 20, 1917, a daughter of the late John Laurie Knox and Nannie Cobb Knox. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are two brothers, Olin Knox of the home and Boyd Knox of Union; a niece and nephew reared in the home, Michelle Knox Quinn of Jonesville and Johnathan Olin Knox of the home; and a number of other nieces and nephews; and three great-nephews, Phillip Quinn and Kane Quinn both of Jonesville and Kolby Knox of Spartanburg. Mrs. Buice was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers, Rosa Lee Hodge, Pansy K. Sanders, Malcombe Knox, Lawrence Knox, Roy Knox, Baxter Knox and Wilburn Knox.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Keith Sweat, Rev. Larry Hyder and Chaplain Jim Hager. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 and will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 1210 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1622 Kelly Rd., Union, or to Palmetto Health Hospice, 2024 Bearville Ct., Wilson Rd., Newberry, SC 29108. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ruth L. Medford
Retired postmaster

BUFFALO - Ruth Lancaster Lawson Medford, 89, of 117 Riverside Dr., Piedmont, formerly of 2141 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, widow of Paul Medford, died Aug. 11, 2002, at 6:20 p.m. in the Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Easley after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Medford was born in Spartanburg on April 9, 1913, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Lancaster and Atta Jennings Lancaster. She was an active member of Putman Baptist Church and the Guiding Light Sunday School Class, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Putman Baptist Church Senior Citizens and was a member of the Postmaster's Association.

Mrs. Medford was a graduate of Roebuck High School, Class of 1933 and was retired postmaster at the Buffalo Post Office. Mrs. Medford was first married to the late Aubrey Lawson. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gary Brown of Piedmont; a sister, Margaret Byars of Gaffney; and a granddaughter, Michelle Brown of Piedmont. Mrs. Medford was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers, Lannie Bishop, Mary Youngblood, Guy Lancaster and Joe Lancaster.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Putman Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Tillman and Rev. Harold Belue. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7-8:30 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ruth L. Medford
Retired Postmaster

Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Marvin Trammell
World War II veteran

Marvin Trammell, 81, of 506 Lover's Lane Road, husband of Gladys Shaw Trammell, died Aug. 12, 2002, at 11 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Trammell was born in Union on Oct. 8, 1920, a son of the late Waddie and Molly Foster Trammell. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from Orangeburg Cotton Mill.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Carol Jean Martin of Santuck, Donna Lugo and Marsha Patrick both of Buffalo and Shirley Trammell of Union; three sons, James Trammell, Steve Trammell and Grady Trammell all of Union; a sister, Mildred Tipton of Union; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Trammell was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Trammell. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Sarah M. Sanders
Retired educator

Sarah M. Sanders, 86, wife of Rev. Leslie Sanders, of 207 Blassingame St,. died Aug. 8, 2002. Born in Anderson County on May 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Felton Lee and Nancy Armstrong.

She was a graduate of Read Street High School in Anderson and received an AB degree in Education from Benedict College and a Masters of Education degree from Columbia University. She taught in the public schools of Union, Spartanburg and Anderson counties. As a pastor's wife she served at the following churches: James Chapel Baptist Church in Union County; Saint Paul Baptist Church in Union for 18 years; Springfield Baptist Church in Laurens for 34 years; Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Laurens and New Beginning Baptist Church in Laurens.

She was Founder and Ministers Wives President in Union and Laurens; member of Bethlehem Chapter 176 OES, Order of the Eastern Star; S.C. Baptist Convention; S.C. Baptist Congress of Christian Educators; Benedict College Alumni Club; Interdenominational Ministers Wives Alliance; National Educators Association; Retired Educators Association; Senior Missionary Society Ministry; Founder of Junior Missionaries Ministry; Young Women Auxiliary Ministry and the Young Matrons Auxiliary Ministry.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, John Sullivan Sanders of St. Albans, N.Y. and Leslie Stanley Sanders of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Carolyn L. Sanders Cleveland of Spartanburg and Columbia and Reba Sanders Williams of Columbia; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchildren. Family reflection services will be held Thursday at the Welfare Baptist Church in Anderson at noon by Rev. S.B. Nealy.

Funeral services will be held at Corinth Baptist Church at noon Friday by Rev. J.A. Calhoun. Eulogist and words of comfort will be brought by Rev. David Kennedy, pastor of New Beginning Baptist Church in Laurens. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Ministers will be honorary and active pallbearers. Ministers wives and members of the Order of Eastern Stars will be honorary and active flower bearers. Union Community Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Marvin Trammell

The body is at the home of his grandson, Jason Trammell, 529 Lover's Lane Road, Union, where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 and will be placed in the funeral chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Elwillie Jeter Haney
Native of Union County

GAFFNEY - Elwillie Jeter Haney, 80, of Magnolia Nursing Home, Inman, died Aug. 12, 2002 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Widow of Noah Haney Sr., she was born in Union County a daughter of the late Wesley Smith and Ella Sims.

She was the adopted daughter of Elijah and Lula Sims Jeter. Mrs. Haney was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Surviving are a son, Noah Haney Jr. of Spartanburg; a daughter, Esther Jenkins of Spring, Texas; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Gaffney.

Burial will be in Gaffney Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Haney Jr., 523 Dodd Lane, Spartanburg and will receive friends Friday from 6-7 p.m. at the Gilmore Mortuary in Gaffney.

The body will be placed in Kingdom Hall Saturday at 2 p.m. to await the hour of service. The Gilmore Mortuary of Gaffney has charge of arrangements.

John E. Mack Jr.
Union native

GASTONIA, NC. John Eddleman Mack, Jr., 83, husband of Jennelle Garrison Mack, of Gastonia Village, formerly of 1695 Robinwood Road, Gastonia, died Aug. 14, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Union, he was the son of the late John E. and May Jarrett Mack.

He was a retired used car dealer, home builder, and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Mr. Mack was a member of Masonic Lodge #668 for 50 years and a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple since 1951. He was an avid fisherman and played golf both right and left handed.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Jane B. Mack III and Steve E. and Becky Mack, both of Gastonia, N.C.; four grandchildren, David F. and Diana M. Mack of Roswell, Ga.; John Bradley Mack and fiance, Patience Horne of Winter Park, Fla.; Scott and Sherry Bumgarner of Harrisburg, N.C., Sherri and Michael Mock of Cornelius, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Jane Mack, Christina Marie Mack, Emily and Megan Mock; a brother, Jarrett Mack of Spartanburg; and a sister, Josephine M. Godshall of Union.

Mr. Mack was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Thomas, Bryan and Raymond Mack; and a sister, Miriam Clark. Graveside services will be held Friday at noon at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia by the Revs. Rammy Lybrand and Brenda Bynum.

The family will receive friends at the Carothers Funeral Home, 312 W. Second Ave., Gastonia, Friday morning from 10:30 until 11:30. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 805 S. York St., Gastonia, N.C. Carothers Funeral Home of Gastonia has charge of arrangements.
