WHITMIRE - Lizzie Mae Agnew, 87, died Aug. 15, 2002, at J.F. Hawkins Health Care Center in Newberry. Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Wade and Fannie Hargrove Agnes. She was a member of Spring Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Whitmire. Ms. Agnew was predeceased by a son, Frank Agnew.
Surviving are a son, James Earl Agnew and a daughter, Fannie Pearl Agnew, both of Whitmire; two sisters, Rev. Maggie Adams of Newberry and Frances Agnew of Whitmire; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Whitmire. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Hunter Funeral Home of Whitmire has charge of arrangements.
Bill Redding
William (Bill) Redding, 74, widower of Martha Redding, died Aug. 16, 2002. Mr. Redding is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy Myer of Chapin and Becky and Steve Cobb of Union; and a grandson, Michael Cobb of Union.
He was predeceased by his wife and a son, Mike Redding. The family is at the home of his daughter-in-law, Kaye Redding, 909 Huntington Drive, Hartsville, SC. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home of Hartsville has charge of arrangements which will be announced later.
Norman O. Winchester
Norman O'Neal Win-chester, 63, of 611 Northgate Ave., Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Union, widow of Shirley Winchester, died Aug. 14, 2002, at 9:32 p.m. in the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., after a sudden illness. Mr. Winchester was born in Union on Oct. 31, 1938, a son of the late Frank Queen and Kathleen Knox Queen. He was of the Baptist faith and was formerly employed in textiles.
Mr. Winchester was first married to Lunnette Price of Union. Surviving are two daughters, Kay Caulder of Charlotte, N.C. and Tammy Kelly of Union; a son, Jeff Winchester of Iron Station, N.C.; a sister, Wanda Bright of Union; a brother, Jackie Knox of Jonesville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Bright, Kenneth Bright, Lewis Horne, Eddie Edwards, Joseph Edwards and Thomas Edwards Sr.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9. The family is at the home of his sister, Wanda Bright, 502 Toney Rd., Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Roland Dudley Kirby, 87,
husband of Laura Howell Kirby of 311 S. Mountain St. died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at 12:57 p.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mr. Kirby was born in Union on Oct. 27, 1914. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired store manager of Rice Music House in Spartanburg and served many churches in Union and Spartanburg counties as part-time music director.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Kathy Jobe of Hurst, Texas.; two sons, Michael Kirby of Columbia and Christopher Kirby of Dallas, Texas.; three grandchildren, Laura Ann Jobe and Lynn Jobe of Dallas, Texas, and Sara Elizabeth (Sally) Kirby of Winston Salem, N. C.Mr. Kirby was predeceased by a son, Lynn W. Kirby.

HARTSVILLE Ruth Ingle Abrams, 89, widow of Thomas J. Abrams, died Aug. 18, 2002.
Mrs. Abrams was born in Rutherford County, N.C., a daughter of the late Isaac and Ola Ingle.
She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Ray Petty of Hartsville; grandchildren, Amy Petty, Susan (Ervin) McElveen and Kerry (Steve) Parker all of Hartsville and Beth (Phillip) Long of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Irene Abrams of Buffalo; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Abrams was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Abrams.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at West Hartsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Tomlinson and Rev. Paul Sullivan. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. Virgil Ivey, 85, of East Flat Rock, N.C., died Aug. 16, 2002, at Memorial Mission Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Union County, he had lived in Henderson County since 1953. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church, the Pigeon River Masonic Lodge in Canton, N.C. and The Oasis Shrine Temple.
Surviving include his wife, Laurel Ivey; a son, Douglas Mew of Hendersonville, N.C.; two daughters, Reba Maxwell and Sharon Etnire both of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Virginia Layman of Waynesville, N.C. and Polly Williams of North; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ellis of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Harold McKinnish officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Jackson Funeral Service and Crematory, Hendersonville, N.C. had charge of arrangements.

William Redding
William E. Redding, 74, widower of Martha Redding, died Aug. 16, 2002.
Mr. Redding was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Floyd C. and Pauline Schyler Redding. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and worked for Sonoco for 40 years as a Print Shop Supervisor.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Chuck Myer of Columbia and Becky and Steve Cobb of Union; and a daughter-in-law, Kaye Redding of Hartsville. He was predeceased by his son, Mike Redding.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Tim Tomlinson and Dr. Bev Kennedy officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Becky P. Locke
Becky P. Locke, 76, of Huntsville, Ala., died Aug. 19, 2002.
Mrs. Locke was born on June 23, 1926. She was a member of West Huntsville Church of Christ.
Surviving include three sons, William R. Harris Jr. of Toney, Ala.; Marion C. (Buck) Boyd Jr. of Seneca and Donald P. Boyd of Little River; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home by Tim Rice.
Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg.

Jimmy C. Helton Sr., 66, of 220 Barnado Rd., died Aug. 20, 2002, at 7:55 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Helton was born in Newnan, Ga. on Nov. 6, 1935, a son of the late Ecra William Helton Sr. and Amber Gertrude Johnson Helton.
He was a Baptist. Mr. Helton was retired a meat market manager with the A&P grocery Ssore where he was employed for 28 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Rose Helton of Union, Donna Boyter of Buffalo and Darlene Burgess of Whitmire; two sons, Jimmy C. Helton Jr. of Union and Tim Boyd of Luthersville, Ga.; four sisters, Myrtle Willard and Vera Stewart both of Union, Martha Ann Bailey of Newnan, Ga. and Betty Jean Kirby of Douglasville, Ga.; five brothers, Jack Helton and Joe Helton both of Union, Edward Helton, Elliott Helton and Wayne Helton all of Georgia; 13 grandchildren, Jamie Helton, Brandy Boyter, Kevin Boyter, Cristy Burgess, Amanda Burgess, Casey Burgess, Cliff Inman, Jay Helton, Tammy Boyd, Timmy Boyd, C.J. Boyd, Tiffany Boyd and Tommy Boyd; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Helton was predeceased by a sister, Tiny Helton. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Marie J. Hill

Marie Jeter Hill, 87, of 143 Family Circle, Carlisle, widow of Silas Hill, died Aug. 20, 2002, at the National Health Care Center, Laurens. Ms. Hill was born in Union County on Dec. 6, 1914, a daughter of the late Jack and Martha Jones Jeter. She was a member of Jeter Chapel A.M.E. Church, attended the public schools of Union County and was a homemaker.
Ms. Hill was the last surviving member of 13 children in her immediate family. Surviving are three daughters, Arie Tucker and Jeanette H. (John) Dawkins both of Carlisle and Joyce H. (John) Dixon of Clover; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jeter Chapel A.M.E. Church with a graveside service at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday night from 6:30-7:30 at the funeral home. The family is at the home, 143 Family Cir., Carlisle. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Thelma Louise Wade Wix, 77, widow of Joe A. Wix Jr., of 740 Lakeside Dr., died Aug. 21, 2002 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Wix was born in Union on Feb. 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Linder and Gertrude Byrant Wade. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant, and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Terri and Cecil Stephens of Union and Lou Ann and Ronnie McGee of Myrtle Beach; a son, Joe M. Wix of Union; three sisters, Virginia Smith, Lucille Baber and Murial Mitchell, all of Union; seven grandchildren, Jeff Roberts, Brad Roberts, Danna Dowdy, Angela Eshleman, Melissa Whelchel, Amy Hall and Shane Wix; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wix was predeceased by a grandson, Allen Wix; a sister, Eva Moody; and two brothers, Roy Wade and Linder Wade.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Barr-Price Funeral Home Historic B-L Chapel. Mrs. Miller, widow of Charles A. Miller Sr., died Aug. 19, 2002. Born in Union County, she was the daughter of the late George J. and Annie Mae Roof Bauknight. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Batesburg, where she taught in the Weekday Church School. She was a member of the WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary and a Life Member of the Auxiliary of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
She attended the Lutheran Deaconess Motherhouse and served her church at the Lutheran Orphan Home in Salem, Va. as secretary/librarian. A graduate of Converse College, she taught in the South Carolina public schools and at Business College in Spartanburg County. Surviving are her daughters, Dr. Gretchen Mooningham of Saginaw, Mich.; and Carol Seymour of Alexandria, Va.; a son, Charles A. Miller Jr., and four grandchildren.
