FLYNT, Margaret
Margaret L. Flynt, 84, died Monday, October 1, 2001, at her home in Goose Creek. Born September 16, 2001, in Savannah, Ga., she was the daughter of Robert Grady and Annie M. Flynt (nee Cushing). Miss Flynt was employed by Wieners Company in Georgia. She was a member of the Summerville Community Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her brothers, James, Robert G. and William C. Flynt preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Charles Flynt, Goose Creek, and four sisters, Annie L. LaBayne, Goose Creek, Marie Geier, Brookville, Md., Eleanor Cave, Sylvania, Ga., and Lillian Crawford, East Avon, N.Y. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 17-A, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 100 S. Goose Creek Blvd., Goose Creek.

GRAHAM, Roy
FLORENCE, S.C. - Roy Graham, 84, died Friday, September 28, 2001 in a Florence hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 pm, Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Florence, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Graham was born in Florence on July 4, 1917 to the late John Foster Graham and Lillian Meares Graham. He graduated from Florence High School in 1937, and was employed by the Florence Morning News in the circulation, production and news departments. During WWII, he was an Army Tech Sergeant stationed at Camp Wheeler, where he was Editor of The Camp Wheeler Spoke. After discharge, he continued his 20-year newspaper career, serving as Sports Editor/Associate Editor the last 12 years. In 1949, he became a Federal Probation Officer and retired in 1977.
Mr. Graham served as correspondent for The State, The News and Courier, and The Charlotte Observer for 30 years. He was Editor of The SC Congress of Parents and Teachers monthly newsletter for 3 years and was honored with a Life Membership. He was Publicity Director for the Eastern Carolina Regional Fair for 40 years.
Mr. Graham served on the Election Commission for Florence County for 3 years and as a Hearing Officer for Florence School Districts 1 and 5 for 10 years. He was President of the Yellow Jacket Booster Club twice and each year set new membership records. He served on the Pee Dee Lung Association Board for 50 years, twice as Chairman. He served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board for 50 years, once as Chairman, and was named its first and only Life Member in 1999. He was a board member of the SC Athletic Hall of Fame and the Baptist Courier for 6 and 15 years respectively. He has been an active Gideon since 1967 and a member of NARFE since 1978.
A member of the First Baptist Church since 1929, Mr. Graham served as a Deacon when eligible since 1946 and as Chairman 6 times. He taught Sunday School since 1944, served as Clerk for 13 years, as Sunday School Superintendent twice, as Director of Discipleship Training 4 times, as Chairman of the Finance Committee 4 times, as Chairman of Nominating Committee 3 times, as member of the Pulpit Committee twice and as Church Historian for the past 15 years, writing its history for the 25-year period from 1966 to 1991. He started the Brotherhood visitation program to hospitals in 1950 and in 1972 initiated The Loving Service Committee, birthday visits to shut-ins. For the past 20 years he has chaired the Brotherhood's Christmas Gift Program for Bethea Home residents and penitentiary inmates. He started The Fifty Year Club in 1980 and The Golden Anniversary Club in 1985. December 28, 1997 was declared Mabel and Roy Graham Day at the First Baptist Church to celebrate their faithfulness and service.
In 1987, Mr. Graham received the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award, in 1988, the Civitan's Citizen of the Year Award, in 1995, the Chapel of Four Chaplains Award, in 1999, the Edward A. McDowell Award for Distinguished Service from the SC Baptist Convention and in 1997, he was named an Honorary Chaplain at McLeod Regional Medical Center and Carolinas Hospital in recognition of over 50 years of visitation.
Survivors include: beloved wife of 59 years, Mabel Mims Graham, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda & Ben Brockman of Fairfield, CT, Donna & Curt Rone, of Columbia, SC, and Betsy & Tom Wright of Florence; son and daughter-in-law Edward & Nancy Graham of Florence; grandchildren, Will Brockman (Lucy) of Ann Arbor, MI, Nathan Brockman of NY, NY, Graham Wright of Cambridge, MA, Elizabeth Wright of Greenville, SC, Nancy Smith (Benji) of Simpsonville, SC, Caroline (Randy) Rice of Apex, NC, Jeni Ramsay (William) of Jacksonville, FL and Lizabee Rone and Nick Rone of Charleston, SC; great grandsons, Jacob Brockman, Jack and Sam Smith; a brother, Alvin Graham of Charlotte, NC; and four nieces. He was predeceased by a sister Ruth G. Woodard and a brother W.F. "Bill" Graham.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday from 6-8pm. Memorials may be made to Gideons, Florence West Chapter, P.O. Box 922, Florence, SC 29503, the Salvation Army, P.O. WHITE, James
James White, 65, of North Charleston died Thursday, September 27, at his residence. Verily, verily I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth in him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life" John 5:24.
On October 16, 1935 Clifton and Annie Ruth White were blessed with the birth of their ninth child, James Richard. This event occurred in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia, Pa. James left Philadelphia to join the United States Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, he began working with Southern Bell Telephone Company (Bellsouth). In 1995 he retired from Bellsouth.
James was a member of M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & A.M. of California and Hawaii, Inc. He was also a member of the Church of Christ.
His smile will be missed by his wife, Marie; daughter and son-in-law, Corliss and Byron Edge of Newport News, VA; sons and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Janice White of Seabrook, Md.; son, Larry White of Charleston; Victoria White of Detroit, Mich.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Terrance Ward of Sunrise, Fla.; stepdaughter, Elaine Garrison of Kansas City, Mo.; brother-in-law, David and Betty White of Philadelphia, PA; sister and brother-in-law, Sara and James Webb of Laurel, Del.; grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all survive Mr. White.
A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hospice of Charleston, 3896 Leeds Ave., Charleston, SC 29405 or the Hollings Cancer Center, c/o Health Science Foundation, 86 Jonathon Lucas St., P.O. GOETHE, JR., Bennie
Bennie L. Goethe, Jr., 70, of 182 Legare Road died Sunday at Walterboro Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Old St. George Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Cook and Rev. Steve Kittrell officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Frankie Fralix, Lanier Fralix, David Wimberly, Gerald Saulisbury, Gary Connelley and Larry McAlhaney. Honorary Pallbearers will be former Deacons of Old St. George Baptist Church.
Mr. Goethe was born August 23, 1931 in Smoaks, S.C., a son of Inez Grimes Goethe and the late Bennie L. Goethe, Sr. He worked as a welder (millwright) and was the owner of Engineered Feeding Equipment Co. in Branchville. Mr. Goethe was a member of Old St. George Baptist Church, he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School Teacher and was a graduate of Smoaks High School. He was pre-deceased by a sister Joan Goethe.
Surviving are his wife, Ollie Mae (Polly) Weathers, Mother, Inez G. Goethe, Smoaks, S.C., 2 Sons, Michael L.(Ann) Goethe, St. George and Randy M.(Pam) Goethe, Reevesville, S.C., 2 Daughters, Mrs. Gary (Teresa) Sullivan of Reevesville and Charlotte G. Brownlee, St. George, S.C.; 1 Brother, David L. Goethe, Smoaks, S.C. 10 Grandchildren: Philip, Tracy, Erica and Ashley Goethe of St. George; Justin and Lauren Goethe of Reevesville; Chris and Gregory Rice of Reevesville; Russell Sullivan of Columbia and Tyler Brownlee of St. George.

HARVEY, Sarah
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Warren G. Harvey are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Tuesday, October 2, 2001 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

HIOTT, Cora
Cora Belle Smith Hiott, 80, of Hanahan, died Sunday, September 30, 2001 at her home. The funeral service will be 10:00 o'clock Wednesday, October 3, 2001 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Greenridge Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening (Tuesday) from six until eight o'clock.
A native of Charleston, she was the daughter of Norman D. and Ella Fertic Smith. She was the widow of Allen C. Hiott, who preceded her in death in 1994.
She is survived by her son, Norman Edwards of Orlando , Florida, her grandson, Shannon Edwards and her granddaughter, Erin Ethridge, both of Georgetown, SC. She is also survived by her nieces, Mary Riddle and Claudette Fennell, both of North Charleston and her nephews, Nick Breuer of North Charleston and Ernest Breuer of Pineville as well as 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2001, Mr. Orin L. Edwards, the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Edwards, and the late Mrs. Mary V. Edwards; brother of Brian G. Edwards, S Sgt.
