ACKERMAN, John
John Martin "Jack" Ackerman, 45, of 1154 Bellwood Road, Charleston, died Tuesday.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2001 in the chapel of AVINGER FUNERAL HOME in Holly Hill with the Rev. Buddy Lock and Rev. Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Jaques Cemetery near Cottageville.
Mr. Ackerman was born in Orangeburg a son of Lawrence Mytlin Ackerman and the late Mary Elaine Avinger Ackerman. He was a graduate of Holly Hill High School and a Marine Corps veteran. He was a masonry restorationist and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving are his father of Holly Hill, and his fianc‚, Jacquie Muir of Charleston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday, October 4, 2001. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Hunley, 255 King St., Charleston, SC 29401.
GOGGINS, Margie
GEORGETOWN - Margie E. Goggins of the Plantersville Community, died Tuesday, October 2, 2001 in a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday. October 5, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL. Officiating will be Rev. Clyde Hendrix. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
She was born February 12, 1941 in Georgetown County, a daughter of Essie Davis Carter Felders and the late Harry Julius Carter.
She was a retired employee with International Paper and was a member of Liberty Christian Church in Andrews.
Surviving are her mother and step-father, Hart Felders of Summerville; three daughters, Robin Port of Socastee, Teresa Boyd of Georgetown and Beth Hensley of Vesta, Virginia; two sisters, Everly Bouchette of Rowesville and Sherry Stephens of Conway; six grandchildren, one great-grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marion Ware Oglesby, 74, of Summerville, S.C., died Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, October 5, 2001, at 1 o'clock. Entombment will be in Summerville Cemetery Mausoleum. Mr. Oglesby was born September 28, 1927, in Garnett, S.C., a son of the late Lewis Ware Oglesbry and Annabelle Hoover Oglesby. He was an Army veteran of W.W.II and a member of the Mason Carolina Lodge #375.
Survivors include his close companion and her children, Doris Haselden of West Ashley, S.C., seven nephews, Robert Crosby, Donald Crosby and Edward Crosby, all of Summerville, Lex Oglesby, Jr., of Beaufort, S.C., and E.L. Oglesby of Cummings, S.C.; four nieces, Patricia Shuman of Cummings, S.C., Faye Lipham of Summerville, Barbara Jean Joy of Clemson, S.C., and Mary Lamb of Bonneau, S.C.
SMOAK, Josie
SMOAKS - Mrs. Josie Mae Warren Smoak, 87, of 29973 Lowcountry Highway, died Wednesday at a local health facility. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, at Smoaks Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Buie officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery, directed by the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.
Ms. Smoak was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late George Warren and Clara Varnadoe Warren. She was a member of Smoaks Baptist Church, where she served as organist for 65 years and was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She was the widow of A.B. Smoak.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy S. Byrd of Smoaks, a brother, John Warren of Clermont, Fla., a grandson, Joe Byrd of Charleston, a granddaughter, Cathy Miles of West Columbia, and two great-grandchildren, Katie Byrd and Karen Jean Byrd. She was predeceased by a son, Donald S. Smoak and by a grandson, Johnny Byrd.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home.

Annie Margery Davis Nelms, of 4021 Charleston Augusta Road, Bamberg, S.C., wife of the late Henry R. Nelms, died Tuesday, October 2, 2001, in Bamberg, S.C.
Memorial service will be held in the COONER FUNERAL HOME, Saturday, October 6, 2001, at 2 p.m., in Bamberg, S.C.
Mrs. Nelms was the daughter of the late Willie Collis Davis and the late Laura Frances Hooker Davis. She was a member of the Nazarene Church. She was an employee at Bamberg Textile Mill for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, gardening, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include, two daughters, Margie Dianne Nelms of Bamberg, and Emily Caroline Hamlin of Ridgecrest, Calif.; one son, Richard Nelms of Savannah, Ga.; three sisters, Lila Mae Davis of Bamberg, Minnie Lou Taylor of Bamberg, Mildred Louise Hoffman of Bamberg; one brother, Joe Morgan Davis of Bamberg; three grandchildren, Erica Danielle Nelms of Lodge, S.C., Jonathan Aston Hamlin of Ridgecrest, Calif., Kyle Murray Hamlin of Ridgecrest, Calif.; 23 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William L. Davis of Neeses, Marion Davis of Bamberg, Harold Davis of Winter Park, Fla.

Mr. Buero was born August 28, 1920 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of George and Mary Buero. During World War II he served his country as a 2nd Class Motor Machinist Mate in the U.S. Coast Guard and then later served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1953. He was a Catholic and a retired carpenter and millwright and was a member of the Southeast Carpenters Union.
He is survived by his wife of Hanahan, SC, one son, William Augustine Buero, Jr. of Moncks Corner, SC; one brother, Harold Buero of Charleston, SC; one sister, Alma B. Caines of Summerville, SC; two granddaughters, Christina Elizabeth Buero of Charleston AFB and Stephanie Danielle Buero of Moncks Corner, SC.
