Legette and Beverly Lewis Legette. Mr. Legette was a member of Remount Baptist Church. Maxine Miller Mills, 81, of Moncks Corner, died Thursday at a Moncks Corner nursing home.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. John's Baptist Church, Pinopolis. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be private.
Mrs. Mills was born February 21, 1920 in Hamilton, Alabama, a daughter of Paul D. Miller and Estelle Northam Miller. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and the First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. She was a long time resident of Myrtle Beach and has been a resident of Moncks Corner since October, 1999. She was the widow of Tom V. Mills.
Surviving are two sons, Tom V. Mills, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, Mickey Mills of Nashville, TN; daughter, Mrs. Albert Boyt, Jr. (Mary Nell) of Pinopolis; three sisters, Mary E. Clark of Auburn, AL, Regina Nixon of Laceys Springs, AL, Claire J. Cook of Hamilton, AL; three brothers, Douglas Green and Gatmon Green both of Hamilton, AL, Jim Green of Muscle Shoals, AL; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Dwight Edmund Black, 78, a retired electrician, died Thursday in Lake Toxaway, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Walterboro, SC, conducted by Rev. Ed Stiltz, and directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Black was born March 15, 1923 in Denmark, SC, a son of the late Rev. Walter Black and Vera Crosby Black Blakewood. He was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Local 1579). He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II and was the widower of Hortense Sweet Black.
Surviving are two step-daughters, Norma McCall of Lake Toxaway, NC and Peggy Foster of Orangeburg, and a sister, Ava B. Thorson of Walterboro. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
Memorials may be made to the Jernigan Cancer Fund, c/o University Hospital, Augusta, GA.

Mrs. Miller was born April 17, 1945 in Camden, SC, a daughter of Robert Hough Fletcher and Mrs. Marian Miles Fletcher. She received her Bachelors Degree from Winthrop College and Masters Degree from the Citadel. An educator, Mrs. Miller taught at the former Chicora High School, R.B. Stall High School, Midland Park Elementary School all in Charleston County and for 17 years at Westview Middle School in Goose Creek, SC, where she was teacher of the year (1986-1987). Her family and children wish to express their sincere gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love and support for Donna and the family. It has been obvious that God has blessed this family with an even larger family of friends. Her family would like to honor her by encouraging all who knew her to remember her in the many roles that she played; wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, student, teacher, aunt and friend.

SANTOS, William
William Anthony Santos, Jr., 74, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at a local hospital. Born October 14, 1926 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of William A. Santos, Sr. and Catherine Conlon Santos. He was a graduate of Bishop England High School, a member of the Merchant Marines and later served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II witnessing the testing of the atomic bomb and traveled to the South Pole with an expedition of Admiral Byrd. He attended Clemson University and later, trained by his father, was a licensed Harbour Pilot in Port Royall. He retired as Project Manager of Flour-
Daniel Construction International. He was a member of the Master's Mate's and Pilot's Association in Charleston. Mr. Santos is survived by his wife Mildred Garrett Santos of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sons, William Anthony Santos III, of N. Charleston, Thomas Jay Santos of Florence, S.C. and James Earle Santos of Albany, GA; two daughters, Mary Ellen Saare of Tulsa, OK and Catherine Ann Smith of Gilbert, SC; one sister, Mary Santos Blanchard of Mt. Mr. Wright was born in White Hall and was the son of Rev. Cleveland Wright and Lovie Barnett Wright. He attended the public schools in Colleton County and was a member of Ebenezer C.M.E. Church.

MANNING - Mr. John Earl Lynch, Jr., 65, died Friday, October 5, 2001, at a local hospital after an illness.
Mr. Lynch was born in Florence County, a son of the late John Earl and Eunice McGee Lynch. He was a retired plumber and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Kirby of Lake City, Earline Jordan of Sumter and Eunice Marie Razor of Summerville; one son, Patrick Michael Lynch of Summerville; three brothers, Lee R. Lynch, Sr. of Manning, John L. Lynch, Sr. of Moncks Corner and James B. Lynch of Summerville; one sister, Pat Kelly of Sumter; several grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Joyce Carter of Manning.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2001, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel, Lake City, with burial in the Camp Branch Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

LATTA, SC - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Benton Gasque, 84, of Latta died on Friday, October 5, 2001 at a local medical center.

Mrs. Gasque was born on November 16, 1916 in Puyallup, Washington to Edgar Augustus Benton and Blanche Altamae Peacock Benton and was reared in Hanson, Mass. Mrs. Gasque was a graduate of Whitman High School and Brockton Business College. She was a secretary for the federal government in Washington, DC at the Italian Division of the Office of Secret Service. Mrs. Gasque was a member of the Latta United Methodist Church and a member of the Josephine Stackhouse Circle. She was married to Samuel Norwood Gasque, Sr. for 60 years.
She is survived by her husband, Judge (Ret) Samuel Norwood Gasque, Sr., of the home; sons, Samuel Norwood (Marilyn) Gasque, Jr. of Flat Rock, NC, and Paul Edgar (Laura) Gasque of Latta; daughters, Judith Anne Gasque Moody of Florence and Nancy Ruth Gasque (Buzzy) Finklea of Latta; a sister, Glenna Ruth Oksanen of Halifax, Mass; grandchildren, Jesse James (Jennifer) Brigman, III, Nancy Elizabeth "Betsy" Finklea, Belva Jenkinson (Andy) Britt, Tracy Fore Finklea, Paul Conan Gasque, Lauren Elizabeth Gasque, all of Latta; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Victoria Britt of Latta. Mrs. Ross was born February 3, 1940 in Horry County, a daughter of Mazie Gerald Hardwick and the late Walter Hardwick. Mrs. Ross was an administrative assistant with Anvil Knitwear. She was a graduate of Floyds High School and Columbia Business College. Mrs. Ross was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Ross are her husband, William "Bill" Ross of the home; her mother, Mazie Gerald Hardwick of Nichols; 2 sisters, Doris Miller of Lancaster and Barbara Elliott of Camden; a brother, Harold Hardwick of Charleston; 6 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces and great nephews.

ANDREWS - Mary Faye Clemons Cooper, 76, died Thursday, October 4, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Cooper was born in Andrews on April 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Robert Bissell Clemons and Annie Louise Smith Clemons. She graduated from Andrews High School and lived in Andrews all of her life. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Anna-Hannah Circle of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her husband, Spivey C. Cooper of Andrews; two daughters, Pamela C. Brett and Deborah C. Watford both of Andrews; two brothers, F. Ervin Clemons and Robert B. Clemons, Jr. both of Andrews; three sisters, Suzy C. Gilmer of Pawley's Island and Roberta C. Tisdale and Emma C. Davis, both of Andrews; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cooper was predeceased by a son, Gregory S. Cooper.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning, October 6, 2001, at 11:00 o'clock in Trinity United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Steven M. Todd, the Rev. Paul Miles, and the Rev. Billy Rufus. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
