Elene Parker West, 68, of North Charleston, died Thursday at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Cherryville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Walter L. Parker and Nettie Craig Parker. Mrs. West was a Charleston County school guard. She was a member of Pittman Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William M. West, Jr.; a daughter, Alita W. Adams of Fairfax, Virginia; a son, William M. "Chuck" West, III of Goose Creek; a sister, Katie P. Newton of Burlington, NC; grandchildren, Jason Burton, Nick Adams, Kasey West and Chase West.

HANAHAN, John
John "Jack" Hanahan died on Monday, October 8, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was born August 5, 1924 at Mercy Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina to John and Hardin Davant Hanahan. Mr. Hanahan graduated from St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware and received his BS and MA in education from the University of Tennessee.
Mr. Hanahan taught geology, Spanish, geography, and coached the golf and tennis teams at Belmont Abbey College for many years. For the last 14 years, he was an active member of the Institutional Advancement team at the College. He was preparing to celebrate his 50th anniversary with Belmont Abbey this week.
He is well known for his professional contributions: as curator to the National Science Museum in Charleston.
Surviving are his sister Mary Hanahan, sister-in-law Marguerite Hanahan, niece, Ruth Ann Hanahan & nephew Thomas D. Hanahan, Jr., great-nephew John Davant Hanahan, all of Knoxville, Tennessee, along with 12 godchildren & numerous cousins.

WALTERBORO - Mable Tracy Maloney Hayes Pinckney, 99, died October 6, 2001 in a St. George Health Care Center.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001 in Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Walterboro. Burial will be in Varn Cemetery in Islandton.
Mrs. Pinckney, daughter of the late William Maloney and Alice Tracy Maloney, was born April 15, 1902 in Colleton County. She received her early education in the public schools of Colleton County. She furthered her education in nursing in Charleston and received her license in 1948. She attended Saint Mary Catholic Church in Charleston.
Surviving are a son, Leroy Hayes, Jr. of Smoaks; a daughter, Jennilee Battle (Joe) of Savannah, Georgia; two sisters, Edith Chess and Gertrude Aiken both of Ruffin, a brother, John Rupert Maloney of Walterboro; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

William W. Risher, II, 72, died on Thursday, October 11, on Kiawah Island, S.C. Born in Charleston to Viola Henderson Wilbert and the late William W. Risher. He was a graduate of the Citadel and received his masters from the University of Maryland. Mr. Risher served his country as a Lt. in the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Comptroller for the U.S. Federal Government. Mr. Risher was also a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church. He is survived by his mother, Viola Henderson Wilbert of Orlando, Fla.; son William Risher and a daughter, Harriet Risher, both of Columbia, S.C., and a sister, Barbara Risher Smith of Orlando, Fla. The family will receive friends, Sunday, October 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 15, in the funeral home chapel. Loma E. "Maggie" Phillips, 78, of Hwy. 402, Moncks Corner, S.C., a former attendant at Dick's Station, died Friday afternoon in a Charleston hospital.

Mrs. Phillips was born August 30, 1923, in Camden, S.C., a daughter of Brooks T. Williams and Rosa Cook Williams. She was a member of the Santee Circle Community Church. She is the owner of Maggie's Bait and Tackle.
