Mr. Witham was born December 12, 1942 in Charleston, SC, a son of George William Witham and Evelyn Sims Witham. He was a Pipefitter/Welder for the United Association of Plumbers and Shipfitters, Local #421. He was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Carlisle Military Academy and attended the Citadel. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 421, The American Legion, Post #147, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 445, the Scottish Rite of Freemason, Valley of Charleston, Omar Shrine.
He is survived by his wife; his mother; one sister, Dottie Witham George and her husband, Robert George, all of Charleston, SC.

HEALING SPRINGS, SC - Myrtle Cain Whittle, 87, died Sunday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2001, 3:00 p.m. in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC, with burial in the Blackville Cemetery. Mrs. Whittle was born in Barnwell County, SC, a daughter of the late Harry D. and Susie Dyches Cain. She was a Christian and a lifetime member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church, a self-giving homemaker and was food service manager for the family business. She was married to the late Mark Briggs Whittle.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Hennis and Dorothy W. Garvin of Hampton, SC, daughter Sara Jane Whittle of Healing Springs and Summerton, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Mack Blane and Robin Whittle of Wagener, SC; sisters, Mrs. Virginia Bass of Dalton, GA, Betty Sue Gregory of Owensboro, KY; and brother, Bernard Cain of Columbia, SC. She was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased in death by a daughter, Harriet Delano Williams; son, Robert Harry Whittle; sisters, Doris Gardner, Ruby Montgomery; and brothers, Gordon Cain, Briggs Cain, D.J. Cain.

Fledner Ross, 85, formerly of Summerville, SC, died October 22, 2001 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, New Jersey. She was a retired homemaker from the Presbyterian Home in Summerville, SC. She was a member of Weldon Chapter #125 Order of Eastern Star and Pauline Court #620 Heroines of Jericho. As a member of St. Daniel United Methodist Church, Harleyville, SC she served as a member of the Trustee Board, Senior Choir, Gospletts, Sunday School and United Methodist Women. She later joined Bethel AME Church, Asbury Park, NJ, under watchcare. Her husband of 52 years, Sammie Ross died in 1994. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Alfred and Jessie Ross of Alexandria, VA; daughter and son-in-law Pernice and Robert Joiner of Neptune, NJ with whom she lived; two sisters Irene Coburn of Harleyville, SC and Louvenia Smith of Hartford, CN; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. HELFRICH, Carl
Carl G. Helfrich, 94, of Hanahan, SC died Saturday, October 27 at a local nursing home. He was born in Biblis, Germany to the late Johann and Teresa Gansman Helfrich. Mr. Helfrich was an avid motorcycle lover and retired from Harley Davidson. He served in the United States Army and was a WWII veteran. Mr. Helfrich was survived by his beloved niece, Elizabeth Huba Defendi and husband Frank of Hanahan, and many great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 30th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. there at the church. Richard K. Marshe, 43, of Folly Beach died Friday, October 26th at his residence. Born in Jacksonville, Florida to Frederic B. Marshe, Sr., and Joan Dursse Marshe. Mr. Marshe attended Charleston schools and was of the Catholic faith. He was a painting contractor and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen Mendes. His father, Frederic B. Marshe, Sr., of Jacksonville, FL, mother Joan Dursse Marshe of Charleston, brother, Frederic B. Marshe, Jr., of Charleston, sister, Lizbeth K. Marshe of Charleston, aunt, Carmel D. Couche of Charleston uncles, Jules A. Dursse and Gerald L. Dursse both of Charleston survive him.
