MCDONALD, Carroll
Carroll Watson McDonald, 75, widower of Carol Ann M. McDonald of Charleston, SC, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC. All funeral services are private. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Mr. McDonald was born in Thomasville, Alabama, a son of Carlos and Alice Bouler McDonald.
He is retired US Navy, and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He also retired from MUSC Procurement Dept.
He is survived by his son, Don McDonald and his wife, Tamara of Charleston, SC, six sisters, Theda Erstgard of Spencer, MA, Anna Welsh of Elsie, NB, Ouida McIntyre of Coffeeville, AL, Mabel Rush of Mobile, AL, Marlene Brock of Clanton, AL, and Faye Stephens of Grove Hill, AL, one brother, Calvin McDonald of Grove Hill, AL. Two grandchildren, Jacob Zimmerman and Rebecca Zimmerman of Charleston, SC, and one great-grandchild, Isabel Zimmerman of Charleston, SC.
Memorials may be made to charity of ones choice.

PARKS, Darla
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of October 28, 2001, Darla Vaughn Mandrell Parks, widow of Charles G. Parks. Residence, Goose Creek, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Darla Vaughn Mandrell Parks are invited to attend her funeral services at the Cryptside, Carolina Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, Wednesday morning, October 31, 2001, at ten o'clock. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL Tuesday evening between seven and nine o'clock.
Mrs. Parks was born December 25, 1935 the daughter of Gail E. and Dalene Mandrell. She attended Illinois public schools, and was a graduate of Trident Technical College with a degree in Horticulture. She was an employee with LaPetite Academy of Goose Creek, SC.
Surviving are two sons, Alan R. and (Elaine) Parks of Goose Creek, S.C., Jimmy and (Joyce) Parks of Greenville, S.C., two daughters; Diane Horton of Goose Creek, S.C., Robin and (Bob Le Master) of Pasadena, MD., two sisters; Sheila and (John) Sherman and Marcia Pribble all of Rantoul, IL., and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Roger Parks.

SIMMONS, Craig
Craig Alexander Simmons, 59, of Goose Creek, SC, formerly of Myrtle Beach, SC, Silver Springs, Mount Airy and Cheverly, MD., died October 25, 2001 in Charleston, SC after a brief illness. He was born in Washington, DC to the late Herschel J. and Sally Smith Simmons. He was a 1960 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, a 1968 graduate of Montgomery College, received his BS in Economics in 1970 from the University of Maryland, with highest honors, and partial completion of his MS in Economics in 1971. He was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. He was also a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, of Charleston, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Goose Creek, and previously at St. Andrews Catholic Church of Myrtle Beach. He worked with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 1971 to 1975. He was employed by the Government Accounting Office's Senior Executive Service prior to retiring from the agency in 1993. He served as Senior Associate Director, in the General Government Division and was responsible for directing work in the Financial Institute and Market Issues Area. He received the rank of meritorious executive in 1987 for sustained superior accomplishment and for noteworthy achievement of quality and efficiency. He received the GOA Distinguished Service Awards in 1981 and 1987 and also a Special Award, Senior Executive Association in 1992, one of six honorees selected annually U.S. Government-wide. He is survived by his wife and "soul-mate", Ann Wright Simmons, three daughters, Mary Lee of Florida, Jennifer of Virginia, Brittany Marie of South Carolina and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Leslie Anne Simmons in 1997. He always had a soft heart for animals, an avid amateur Astronomer, took pride in his landscaping, and was always taking pictures, loved golfing and the water. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30th at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Church, and memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral's Building Fund, 120 Broad St., Charleston, SC 29401. Craig will always be remembered and missed by the many lives he touched as "humble, but accomplished."

BATES, Thomas
We are sad to announce the death of our brother, Retired US Air Force SSGT, Thomas Andrew Bates, 45, in Garmisch Germany. He was a civil service employee of the George C. Marshall, European Center for Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. A full military funeral will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort, Nov. 1, 12:00 Noon.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret P. Bates of Forest Hills Rest Home-Fayetteville, NC, two sisters, Mary Duffer of Charleston, SC and Jo Ann Ferguson of Summerville, SC, one niece, Heather Duffer, two nephews-Perry Holtsberry and John Duffer, and by his ex-wife, Karin Bates of Germany.
Flowers can be sent to the COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, One Copeland Dr., Beaufort, SC 29903 or the cemetery.

ALFORD, SR., Herbert
PAMPLICO, SC - Herbert William Alford, Sr., 67, of 1918 Big Swamp Rd., died Sunday, October 28, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Prospect United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery, directed by STOUENMIRE-DOWLING FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Alford was born in Pamplico a son of the late Furman Cleveland and Cora Lee Ard Alford. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a mechanic for Plowden Motors in Pamplico for 25 years. He was also a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Alford.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Dare Lee Alford of Pamplico; son, Herbert William Alford, Jr., Pamplico; daughter, Wendy Alford of Orangeburg; sister, Geneva "Shelby Jean" Troiano of Pamplico; grandchildren, Autumn, Somer, and Brooke Flowers; great-grandchildren, Randyn and Ashlyn Flowers; two life time friends, Edward "Wilson" Coleman of Summerville and Edward "Junior" Stephens of Pamplico; special family friend, Jessica Boswell; and softball buddy, Larry Watts.
Memorials may be made to the College of Charleston Softball Program, 8 George St., Charleston, SC.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

BRECKENRIDGE, C.
Catherine Margaret Talbirt Breckenridge, 82 of Ladson, widow of Chief Petty Officer John Winston Breckenridge, U.S. Navy (Ret.), died Saturday morning in a Charleston hospital.
Memorial service will be private. Burial will be in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California.
Mrs. Breckenridge was born on November 25, 1918 in Los Angeles, California, a daughter of the late Frances Margaret Talbirt Sherman.
She attended schools in California and Colorado. She was a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch 50, a Life Member of VFW Post 50 Auxiliary and a member of the North Charleston Senior House. She and her late husband owned and operated Breck's Restaurant for over 35 years.
Mrs. Breckenridge was predeceased by her mother, husband and son Tommy Hurst.

TAYLOR, Perry
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of October 29, 2001, Perry Sessions Taylor husband of Carolyn G. Taylor. Residence, Summerville, SC. Funeral services for Mr. Taylor will be held in Park Circle Presbyterian Church, Thursday, November 1, 2001, at three o'clock. Interment will be private. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road, Wednesday, October 31, 2001 from four until six-thirty p.m.
Born November 4, 1921 in Charleston, Mr. Taylor was the son of the late Jesse Langley and Mary Causey Sessions Taylor. He was retired owner and partner of Taylor's Dry Cleaners. He served in the Army Infantry in World War II and was a member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church. Mr. Taylor was a graduate of North Charleston High School, class of 1940, a life member of Hamerton Lodge #332, a member of Scottish Rite, Omar Temple, and Travelers Protective Association.
Survivors are his wife, Carolyn G. Taylor of Summerville; two nieces, Mary Lou Taylor of N. Charleston and Virginia and Thomas E. Phillips of Isle of Palms; great-niece, April Phillips of Isle of Palms and Columbia, SC, and sister-in-law, Lucille B. Taylor. Two brothers, Jesse L. Taylor, Jr. and Paul Saunders Taylor predeceased Mr. Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home Resident Aid Fund, 201 W. 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483 or to a charity of one's choice.

BROUGHTON, Lawton
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of Monday, October 29, 2001, Mr. Lawton (L.B.) Broughton, residence 205 Mulberry St. (Archdale subdivision) Charleston, SC. He is the husband of Mrs. Mildred S. Broughton, father of Ms. Velina D. Broughton of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Lisa Tyler (Leslie), Mrs. Andrea Mayo (Eric), and Mr. Rodney Broughton (Mildred) of Richmond, VA. Step-father of Mr. Alvin Chester (Lynn) of San Diego, Calif. and Mr. Joe Chester, son of Mrs. Rebecca Smith of Cross, SC, brother of Mr. James Broughton (Mildred) of Cross, SC. HEALEY, Jack
Jack R. Healey, 63, of Johns Island and husband of Audrey Healey, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at a local hospital. Mr. Healey was born in Osceola, Indiana. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church on James Island. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Healey of Johns Island, his daughter, Jackie H. Skinner of Johns Island; his granddaughter, Brigitte Ann Skinner of Charleston; three brothers: John, Jerry and Jody of Indiana, and a sister, Jean of Florida. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Richard and Steven.
Jack was a gifted mechanic and was well known in the Hollywood, SC area, where he formerly worked for Too Goo Doo Farms. He was an enthusiastic pilot of his own ultralight aircraft. His many friends knew him for his eagerness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. The many people who depended on his expertise and kindness will miss him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on October 31, 2001, at 1:00 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church on Camp Road on James Island. The Healy family is being served by THE CREMATION CENTER OF CHARLESTON.

CARTER, Hudson
Hudson Wilmoth Carter, 84, of Summerville, died Saturday morning in a Summerville nursing home.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at 1 o'clock in Ridge Baptist Church, Summerville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 2168 Ridge Church Road, Summerville, S.C. 29483.
Friends may call at Ridge Baptist Church from 12 noon until the hour of service.
Mr. Carter was born on February 15, 1917, in Jamaica, a son of the late Henry Hudson Carter and Isceh Rebecca Green Carter.
He attended schools in Jamaica, he served the British Royal Air Force, worked for many years as a handyman and was a member of Ridge Baptist Church.
Surviving are, three sisters, Hyachindh Griffiths of Canada, Ioline Broomfield of Canada, Avis Mandle of Lake Worth, Fla.; two brothers, Frank Johnson of Canada, Peter Johnson of England.
