WALKER, Charles
Charles Wesley Walker entered into eternal rest on Sunday evening, October 28, 2001, at his James Island residence.
The relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2001, at the Church of the Nativity at 1061 Folly Road. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at the JAMES A. MCALISTER FUNERAL HOME, 1620 SAVANNAH HWY. The Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
Mr. Walker was born Wednesday, October 7, 1936, in Memphis, Tenn., the son of the late Harvey and Sally Walker. Mr. Walker was Catholic and an active member of the Church of the Nativity.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 46 years, Cynthia Elizabeth Walker. He was the devoted father of Sharon Clair, Cindy Walker, Fran Lingenfelter, Maria Lugo, Wesley Walker and Travis Walker; three sons-in-law, Michael Clair, Barry Lingenfelter, and David Lugo, all of Charleston, S.C. Survivors also include seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Harvey Walker and Richard Walker; five sisters, Ophelia Balentine, Frances Walker, Naomi Hagan, Patsy Arceneaux and Dian Cease.

Marie Harvey Collins, 91, a longtime resident of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, October 28, 2001. She was a native of Early Branch, S.C., and a member of Ocean Park Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister, Mattie Mae Gibson of Yemassee, S.C., six nephews and three nieces. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, in the chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, with Rev. W.E. Towers officiating. DENMARK, S.C. - Services for Carrie Belle Tyler Binnicker Warren, 85, will be held, 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at St. Phillips Chapel, Vorhees College, Denmark, S.C., with burial in Bamberg Memory Gardens. The family will be at MERCER FUNERAL HOME, from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Ms. Warren died Sunday, October 28, 2001. She was the daughter of Clarence Easterlin and Carrie Foy Tyler, was born in Birmingham, Ala., and grew up in Springfield, S.C. She was pre-deceased by husbands, Willie Woodrow Binnicker and Herman Warren.
Ms. Warren was an active member of the Bamberg County and Denmark Community. She was the first female elected to City Council in Denmark and served for eight years as Emergency Services Commissioner. She was appointed to represent Denmark on the Lower Savannah Council of Governments and served one term as treasurer of that body. She was president of Congress of Parents and Teachers (PTA). She was the first female reader of Christ Church as well as the first female Senior Warden at that church. She also served Christ Church a number of years as treasurer and Bethel Park United Methodist as Sunday school teacher and pianist.
She organized the Bamberg County Coalition to Assist Abused Persons and served as executive director of that agency the three years of its existence.
She was a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem for one year and then served as Bamberg County Guardian Ad Litem Coordinator until her retirement at age 84 in June of 2000. Ms. Warren was bookkeeper and office manager at Edisto Packing Co., Holland Atlantic Hitch Co., and Rogers Tire Service. She was also employed as editor of the Denmark Advertiser.
Ms. Warren received the Order of the Silver Crescent from Gov. James Hodges in 2000. The governor presented the award in recognition of her dedication, commitment and leadership for South Carolina and her citizens.
She also received the Political Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Community during Women's History Month, March 1987, and a Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Community Services (Care Provider) in March 1966, both for the Nu Tau Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Surviving are, a son and daughter-in-law, W. Woodrow and Janice Binnicker of Eutawville, S.C., daughters Pamela Caroline Binnicker of Atlanta, Ga., and son-in-law and daughter Ken and Elizabeth Warren Robinson of Greenville, a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Tyler and Alfred M. Prescott of Belvedere, S.C., six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Richard K. Marshe, 43, of Folly Beach died Friday, October 26, at his residence. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., to Frederic B. Marshe, Sr., and Joan Dursse Marshe. Mr. Marshe attended Charleston schools and was of the Catholic faith. He was a painting contractor and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Mendes. His father, Frederic B. Marshe, Sr., of Jacksonville, Fla., mother, Joan Dursse Marshe of Charleston, brother, Frederick B. Marshe, Jr., of Charleston, sister, Lizberg K. Marshe of Charleston, aunt, Carmel D. Couche of Charleston, uncles, Jules A. Dursse and Gerald L. Dursse, both of Charleston also survive him. TINER, Dorothy
Dorothy M. "Dot" Tiner, 77, of Printer, Ky., formerly of Bamberg, S.C., died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at a Prestonburg, Ky., hospital.
Mrs. Tiner was born in Bamberg, November 3, 1923, the daughter of the late William P. McMillan and Alberta Kearse McMillan. She was a retired registered nurse and operating room supervisor at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside, Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Bamberg Memory Gardens, conducted by Rev. William Courtney.
Survivors include, one daughter, Salley Utsey and her husband Frank of Lakeland, Fla.; one granddaughter, Lori Heather Gay, and her husband, Scott, of Ponte Verda, Fla., three sisters, Carolyn M. Worrix of Allen, Ky., June Kearse of Fairfax, S.C., Margaret Hiers, of Ehrhardt, S.C., and a special friend, Maryland Conn, Jr., of Martin, Ky.

HELFRICH, Carl
Carl G. Helfrich, 94, of Hanahan, S.C., died Saturday, October 27, at a local nursing home. He was born in Biblis, Germany, to the late Johann and Teresa Gansman Helfrich. Mr. Helfrich was an avid motorcycle lover and retired from Harley Davidson. He served in the United States Army and was a W.W.II veteran. Mr. Helfrich was survived by his beloved niece, Elisabeth Huba Defendi and husband Frank of Hanahan, and many great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesdsay, October 30, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., there at the church. SUMMERVILLE - Bertha Paul Staley, age 93, formerly of Conway, wife of the late W. L. Staley, Sr., died Monday, October 29, 2001 in the Presbyterian Home in Summerville.
Mrs. Staley was born in Bucksport a daughter of the late Henry O'Neal and Margaret "Maggie" Davis Paul. She was a member of Waccamaw Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one son, W. Laird Staley, Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Charleston and one daughter, Elaine Staley Winburn Anderson of Conway; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She attended Lakewood Baptist Church and was a member of the Violet Long Sunday School class. She was a homemaker and enjoyed painting and gardening as her hobbies.
Surviving are two sons, George E. Cannon, Jr. of Hampton and Timothy A. Cannon of Georgetown; one brother, Carvin McCutcheon of Lake City; one sister, Felicia M. Baldwin of Florence; three grandchildren, Nathan, Jeremy and Clay Cannon all of Hampton and a number of nieces and nephews.

KINGSTREE - Mrs. Nancy Harkness Horton, 80, widow of Francis H. Horton, Sr., died Sunday in Greenville. Mrs. Horton was born in Abbeville, a daughter of the late Jesse B. Harkness and Mrs. Nancy (Nannie) Gilliam Harkness. She was a graduate of Columbia College and a retired school teacher of the Kingstree public high school. A native of Saginaw, Mich., he was born August 17, 1932, the son of George H. and Margaret Newman McCalpin. An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a graduate of the University of Michigan. Mr. McCalpin was a retired value analyst engineer with the Chrysler Corporation.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Alpers McCalpin; his sons, Mark McCalpin of Prescott, Ariz.; Donald McCalpin of Saline, Mich.; Brett McCalpin of Lapeer, Mich.; his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Kim McCalpin of Lapeer, Mich.; and his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Todd Walgast of Columbiaville, Mich. His step-daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Dan Dyke of Shelby Township, Mich.; Molly and Shawn Emmendorfer of Mt.
