WILLIAMS, Jay
FAIRFAX - Mr. Jay Harley Williams, husband of the late Phyllis Ivy Gibson Williams, died Monday evening in the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta. He was 84.
Mr. Williams was born in Old Barnwell County March 4, 1917, a son of the late Albert R. Williams and Mary Jane Harter Williams. He was a carpenter and an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a Baptist and an avid fisherman.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Jay Harley Williams, Jr. of California, and Eric Arthur Williams of Barnwell; 3 daughters, Patricia Ann Bowers of Fairfax, Phyllis Marie Fisk of Islandton and Jackie Donahue of Allendale; 2 brothers, Robbie R. Williams of Barnwell and Kenneth Williams of Walterboro; 1 sister, Mary Alice Coxwell of Georgia. There are 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 in the chapel of Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home with burial following in the Fairfax Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. SMITH-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME of Allendale is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walker was born Wednesday, October 7, 1936 in Memphis, TN, the son of the late Harvey and Sally Walker. Mr. Walker was Catholic and an active member of the Church of the Nativity.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 46 years, Cynthia Elizabeth Walker. He was the devoted father of Sharon Clair, Cindy Walker, Fran Lingenfelter, Maria Lugo, Wesley Walker and Travis Walker; three son-in-laws, Michael Clair, Barry Lingenfelter and David Lugo all of Charleston, SC. Survivors also include seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Harvey Walker and Richard Walker; five sisters, Ophelia Balentine, Frances Walker, Naomi Hagan, Patsy Arceneaux and Dian Cease.

Benjamin E. Allred, Jr., 75, of Awendaw, died Sunday, October 28, 2001 in local health care facility. The memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 o'clock Saturday, November 3, 2001 in Ocean Grove United Methodist Church, Highway 17, Awendaw. Arrangements were made at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MT. A retired federal agent with Naval Investigative Service, he was born February 12, 1926 in Burlington, NC, the son of Benjamin E. Allred, Sr. and Swana Buckner Allred. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina and was a retired Commander, U. S. Navy Reserve. He was a member of Ocean Grove United Methodist and was formerly a Deacon and Sunday school director at Awendaw First Baptist Church. He was the widower of Caroline Montgomery Allred who preceded him in death August 15, 2001.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael P. and Claudia Allred of Warrensburg, Missouri; Benjamin E. and Melissa Allred, III, of Smithfield, VA; John V. and Cindy Allred of Awendaw; Charles M. and Nina Allred of Sandy Hook, CT; and Thomas F. Allred, MD of Spartanburg. His sister, Helen Frink of Jacksonville, NC, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Melissa Anne Fry, 26, of Hickory, N.C., died October 29, 2001, at her residence. She was born August 2, 1975, in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of Ingolf and Catherine Schluter and Thomas Fry. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and was a student at N.C. State University.

NICHOLS, SC - Miss Georgia Mae Grainger, 97, died Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at her residence after an illness.

Miss Grainger was born August 23, 1904, in Horry County, a daughter of the late Colon C. Grainger and the late Georgiana Sarvis Grainger. Miss Grainger was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a very active lifelong member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Surviving Miss Grainger are her nieces and nephews: Marie G. Tobin of Nichols, Miriam G. Olsen of Mount Pleasant, Charles Douglas Grainger of Nichols, Clarence Willoughby and his wife Mildred of Tabor City, N.C., Essie Brinkley and her husband Bill of Myrtle Beach, Bernice Ray and her husband J.C. of Tabor City, N.C., Aileene Hatley of Wilmington, N.C., Ann Snyder of Wilmington, N.C., Jean Dowling of Westfield, N.C. and Luther "Buzz" Grainger and his wife Sally of Maryland; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Richard Frank Trauger, 71, of Charleston, a retired engineer with the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, died Wednesday at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Philadelphia, PA., he was the son of George Trauger and Annabelle Purse Trauger. Mr. Trauger was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., the Charleston Rifle Club and the Charleston Elks Club. Mr. Trauger was a member of James Island Pentacostal church. Mr. Trauger was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Massa Tauger.

Sgt. William H. Kuck, Sr., Ret. U.S.A., 79, husband of Mildred Crosby Kuck of Charleston died Wednesday, October 31, at a local hospital. Born in Charleston to the late Fritz and Louise Kuhland Kuck. Sgt. Kuck was retired from the United States Army serving in W.W.II, and later retired from Fenwick Hall. He was active in the 9th42nd Army Reserves, Knights of Columbus Council #6250, American Legion Post #247, and the Goods Friends Club. Sgt. Kuck was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. His first wife, Gloria Seel Kuck, and granddaughter, Casey Heisenbuttle, predeceased him. Sgt. Kuck is survived by his wife, Mildred, son, William H. Kuck, Jr., of Delaware, four daughters, Gloria K. Aitken of Utah, Jeannette K. Selan of Virginia, Catherine K. Timmons of Scranton, S.C., and Melody C. Barwick of South Carolina, two brothers, John Kuck of Charleston, and George Kuck of Florida, sister, Mary Peoples of Tennessee, and 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren all survive Sgt. Mrs. Hudson was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Henry Dowling Martin and Annie Bryant Martin. She was a retired cashier with Piggly Wiggly, a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was first married to the late Clevie Buck and then to the late F. Wendell Hudson.
Surviving are four step-daughters, Clarice H. Edwards of Orangeburg, Betty H. Douty of Mt. Pleasant, Frances H. Brigman of Charleston, and Madeline Voss of Jacksonville, Fla., a step-son, Marion Buck of Jacksonville, Fla., sisters, Bessie M. Harvey and Edna M. Wallace, both of Beaufort, a brother, Robert L. Martin of Melborne, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
