HUGGINS, Anderson
HEMINGWAY, S.C. - Anderson "Gump" M. Huggins, 78, died Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Huggins was born in Hemingway, S.C., a son of the late George Anderson Huggins and the late Sephy Brown Huggins. He was retired from the International Paper Co. in Georgetown and was a farmer, a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Indiantown Masonic Lodge #165, American Legion Post #84 and Woodman of the World. He was a W.W.II veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and Army and attended Hemingway High School.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Eaddy Huggins of the home; son, Robin Huggins of Hemingway; two daughters, Amanda H. Eaddy of Johnsonville and Tania H. Lawrimore of Hemingway; brother, Phillip B. Huggins of Hemingway; two sisters, Odean H. Smith of Andrews and Letita H. Barrineau of Kingstree; four grandchildren, Mr. Huggins was pre-deceased by a son, Andy Huggins.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by MORRIS FUNERAL HOME, will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Georgetown County, Inc., 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, S.C. 29440.
MURRAY, Salley
Salley Murray of Jamaica, N.Y. (formerly of Charleston, S.C.), died peacefully on Sunday, October 28, 2001, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Erline Murray of Hollywood, S.C. She graduated from the public school system of Charleston and continued her education at York College in Queens, N.Y.
For many years she was a manager at Alexander Department 59th Street Store in New York City, N.Y. Later she took the position as receptionist and secretary at Kings County District Attorney Office in Brooklyn, N.Y., until her illness.
A viewing of her remains for friends and family members will be held on Friday, November 2, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at FIELDING HOME FOR FUNERALS, 722-3348 or 1-800-290-5954. Family members and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, November 3, 2001, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 4214 Hwy. 174, Hollywood, S.C., at 11 a.m.
She is survived by her brothers, Samuel, Louis (Louise), Sidney (Raphelle), William (Betty), and her sister, Ernestine, sister-in-law, Ruth Murray, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
SPICER, Gertrude
Gertrude McRae Spicer, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Spicer are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Friday, November 3, 2001, in St. Matthews Lutheran Church at 12 noon. Inurnment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Thursday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock.
Mrs. Spicer was born January 12, 1917, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the alte Kenneth D. McRae and Elizabeth Keely McRae. She attended the Drexel Institute of Technology and graduated with a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Maryland. She moved to Charleston from Bethseda, Md., in 1966 and was active in numerous community affairs. She also served as President of the Medical University Women's Club (1970); President of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League (1971-72); President of the Family Christian Y (1979-81) and served on the Board of the Franklin Fetter Clinic. Mrs. Spicer participated actively as a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and the League of Women Voters.
Mrs. Spicer is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Dr. Samuel S. Spicer of Mt. Pleasant; children, Dr. Kenneth McRae Spicer and his wife Patricia H. Spicer of Charleston, S.C., Dr. Eleanor Spicer Rueben and her husband, Dr. Adrian Rueben of Charleston, S.C., and Dr. Samuel S. Spicer, Jr., and his wife, Jane D. Spicer of Wilmington, N.C.; eight grandchildren; Dr. Kevin Spicer and his wife, Dr. Galen Spicer of Richmond, Va., Leigh Spicer of Charleston, S.C., Peter Spicer of Wilmington, N.C., Sara Reuben of Charleston, S.C., Matthew Spicer of Wilmington, N.C., Aaron Reuben of Charleston, S.C., Allen Spicer of Wilmington, N.C., Kirk Spicer of Wilmington, N.C., and a great-grandson, Chasen Spicer of Richmond, Va.

ELSEY, Samuel
CAMDEN, TENN. - Mr. Samuel P. Elsey, 84, died Friday, October 26, 2001, in a Camden hospital.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rock Hill.
Mr. Elsey was born April 22, 1917, in Ravanell, S.C., the son of the late Robert Lee Elsey and the late Ella Bivens Elsey. He was a construction superintendent at DuPont.
Survivors include, wife, Mattie Cullen Elsey; daughters, Sharon Rose, Rock Hill, S.C.; sisters, Catherine Umrysh, Charleston, S.C.; step-sons, Harry Gregory, Iowa City, Iowa, Tom Gregory, Camden, S.C.; ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

LOTT, William
William (Bill) Vickers Lott, 83, a retired agent with Life of Virginia Insurance Company, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at his home in Charleston. He was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia, on October 22, 1918. His parents, William Vickers Lott and Maude Harrison Lott Bailey, and his wife Marian Craige Lott preceded him in death. His son, David R. Lott and daughter Marsha K. Lott, both of Charleston, survive him. Mr. Lott served as a merchant marine during WWII and had also worked as a baker. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, a past member of the Elks Club and Elks Glee Club. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2001 at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth Street. COHEN, David
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 30, 2001, David E. Cohen, husband of Ann Wolf Cohen, residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. David E. Cohen are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Friday at 11 o'clock in Emanu-El Cemetery "Maryville."
Mr. Cohen was born August 30, 1914 in Charleston, SC, the son of Jacob Cohen and Jenny Friedman Cohen. He was a retired Sales Representative with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and a LifeTime Member of Million Dollar Round Table for Life Insurance Persons. He was a member of Emanu-El Synagogue and Brith Sholom Beth Israel. He was a member of Charleston Elks Lodge #242, Friendship Lodge #9 A.F.M., Jewish War Veterans and Past President of Synagogue Emanu-El. He served on the Destroyer USS Richard P. Leary in the South Pacific during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; two sons, Larry D. Cohen and Stuart L. Cohen both of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Sandy C. Taffel of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Tillie C. Lehrman of Charleston, SC, Dot Cohen of New York, Sylvia C. Klarer of New York, Rose C. Schwartz of Charleston, SC and Paula C. Beja of New York.

WARD, Bentley
MT. PLEASANT - Bentley Douglas Ward, Jr., 80, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Ward was born in Charleston on June 29, 1921, a son of the late Bentley Douglas Ward, Sr. and Maude Rives Ward. He was a member of the first graduating class at Moultrie High School. Mr. Ward was a former employee of Marine Contracting and Towing, the U.S. Army Depot in Charleston, and the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He retired from American Development Corp. in Charleston. Mr. Ward was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Little Ward of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Beverly Ward Albrecht and her husband William Thomas Albrecht, Jr. of Isle of Palms and Betsy Ward Truluck and her husband Paul Claude I. Truluck of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Rives Ward Kelley and her husband Thomas Kelley of Pawley's Island; four grandchildren, Caroline Ward Albrecht and William Thomas Albrecht, III, both of Isle of Palms and Paul Claude I. Truluck, Jr. and Mary Ward Truluck, both of Mt. Pleasant; and a nephew, Stephen Kelley of Brookline, Mass.; and two nieces, Karen Hartley of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Jennifer Lachicotte of Pawley's Island.
A Communion Service will be ten o'clock Friday morning, November 2, 2001, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Saturday morning, November 3, 2001, at the graveside in All Saints Church, Waccamaw Churchyard at Pawley's Island. Burial will follow under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

WARD, Mary
Mary Guerry Ward, 92, of St. Stephen, SC, a retired cafeteria manager with the Berkeley County Public School System, died Tuesday in a Moncks Corner hospital.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon in the St. Stephen Evangelical Church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the ST. STEPHEN CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001.
Mrs. Ward was born Aug. 25, 1909, in Cades, SC, a daughter of William S. Guerry and Hattie Matthews Guerry. She is the widow of Belton B. Ward. She was a member of the St. Stephen Evangelical Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Victoria W. "Crickett" McGriff and her husband Guy of St. Stephen; a son, William B. "Billy" Ward and his wife Louella "Lu" of Universal City, TX; a sister, Susie G. Lee of Charleston; three grandsons, Eddie McGriff, Brock Ward and Kevin Ward; three granddaughters, Jerry Grimsley, Terry Hoffman, and Mary VanWyk; and fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
PRESSLEY, Gladys
Gladys Benton Pressley, 90, of Long Point Rd., Cross, SC, a former wrapper stretcher for the American Tobacco Co., died Tuesday in a N. Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning in the Oakley Road Church of God, Moncks Corner. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens, N. Charleston. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001.
Mrs. Pressley was born Oct. 25, 1911, in Walterboro, SC, a daughter of Larry Benton and Emma Kinsey Benton. She is the widow of Marvin Pressley. She is a member of the Oakley Road Church of God.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy G. Collins of Cross; a son, Kisler W. "Lucky" Groves of Cordesville; an adopted daughter, Barbara Johnson of Saginaw, TX; a sister, Mable Bingham of N. Charleston; and thirty-seven grandchildren, nineteen great-granchildren, and twenty one great-great-grandchildren.
GRAHAM, Frank
Frank Herbert Graham, 68, died Tuesday evening, October 30, 2001 at his home in Bonneau. His funeral service will be conducted 1:00 o'clock Friday, November 2, 2001 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call this evening (Thursday) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Frank was born April 26, 1933 in Batesburg, SC a son of Herbert R. and Lois Smith Graham Hill. He was an Army veteran earning his combat infantry badge in Korea. He was retired from the Charleston Air Force Base in 1973 and was a heavy equipment operator with the Cullum Mechanical Construction Company. Frank was a champion stock car driver at Summerville Speedway in the late sixties and early seventies. He was a member of VFW Post 3142, Carolina Masonic Lodge #375, was a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carl H. (Kiesa) Graham; his daughters, Karen G. Rodgers and Carol G. Driggers, all of Ladson; his sister and brother-in-law, LeElla and Russell Bennett of Bonneau and his sister, Elvene G. Wells of North Charleston. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Kathy Ray and her children, Patricia E. Crider of Columbia and Stephanie C. Sherman of Summerville. Five granddaughters, four step-grandsons, one step-granddaughter, two nieces and two nephews also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials are suggested to The Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Greenville Unit, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
