Mrs. Roberts was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 8, 1902, the daughter of Herbert G. and Edna Morris. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Cecil A. Simpson and Nathan Roberts.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerome and Doris Simpson; Thomas and Donna Simpson; her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Frank Skestone, all of Mt. Pleasant; her grandchildren and their spouses, Blaise and Tom Dugan, Dr. Tom and Beverly Simpson, Diane and Mark Patterson, Duane and Donna Simpson, as well as her grandchildren Pamela Gomez, Randall Simpson, and Lauren Simpson, and six great-grandchildren.

Martin J. "Marty" Hacker, 63, of Goose Creek died Friday November 2, 2001 at a local hospital. Born January 20, 1938 in Staten Island, NY he was the son of Martin J. Hacker and Mary Robinson Hacker. Mr. Hacker was a 1957 graduate of Middletown Township High School, Middletown Township, NJ and attended Indian River Community College. He served 20 years with the US Coast Guard and was employed by the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Department, Ft. Pierce, FL from 1981-1994. While residing in Ft. Pierce he was a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion Post 40 and served as the finance officer for the American Veterans. He and his wife Hazel moved to Goose Creek five years ago and are members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mr. Hacker was a member of the American Legion Post 166, Fleet Reserve Branch 269, and a member of the 40-8 #1067 in Goose Creek. He was also an avid pool player. His wife Hazel N. Clanton Hacker, two daughters: Tammy Adkins, Summerville and Kelly Lovette, Goose Creek, four sisters: Dixie Pettison, Jensen Beach, FL., Sharon Parker, Scottsborough, AL, Joyce Monroe, Green Cove Springs, FL, and Lorraine Branscomb, Ft. PENDLETON - Dr. Harlan Ewart McClure, 85, died Nov. 1, 2001 at Clemson Downs Health Center. He was born Oct. 19, 1916 in Chattanooga, TN. and was the son of the late Alexander Ewart McClure and Jeanette Huffman McClure. He was a native of Washington, DC and had lived in Clemson and Pendleton since 1955. He was Dean Emeritus of the College of Architecture at Clemson University.Harlan McClure earned the Bachelor of Architecture degree from George Washington University in 1937 and then spent a year of graduate study at the Royal Swedish Academy in Stockholm before receiving the Master of Architecture degree for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1941. He was awarded the honorary Doctor of Humanities degree by Clemson University in 1987.He served in the United States Navy during World War II, primarily as an operations officer on aircraft carriers, rising from Ensign to Lt. Commander.Dr. McClure began his teaching career at the University of Minnesota in 1945 and was named a full Professor in 1952. In that year he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for teaching and was a Visiting Professor at the Architectural Association School in London, England. In 1955 he was named Head of the Department of Architecture at Clemson University, which became the School of Architecture within three years. He founded the Clemson Architectural Foundation, which is considered by many to be the most successful support foundation in the country for the building professions, bringing to the campus distinguished architects, artists and thinkers from across the U.S. and abroad. He became the Dean when the Department was advanced to College status in 1958. In 1972, he established the Charles E. Daniel Center for Building Research and Urban Studies in Genoa, Italy, and thus allowed more than 800 Clemson students and many alumni to benefit from study abroad at the Center.Dean McClure's service to education did not stop with Clemson University. He served as Editor of the Journal of Architectural Education. He served as national Secretary and then President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and as Secretary and President of the National Architectural Accrediting Board. As a member of the Accrediting Board he served on thirty-seven accrediting teams, chairing seven, visiting and assessing universities across the United States. In 1986 he was awarded the national ACSA Distinguished Professor Award, and he was awarded the prestigious national Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education in 1994, given jointly by the American Institute of Architects and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.Harlan McClure practiced as an architect throughout his academic career, serving as design architect for numerous private residences in Minnesota and South Carolina including St. John's Lutheran Church, Cherryville, NC and Lee Hall at Clemson. He served as design consultant to several firms in South Carolina and he was credited with design work that helped win 12 state and regional design awards. He was advanced to Fellow of the American Institute of Architects for education and design in 1962. He served as a member of the South Carolina Board of Architectural Examiners from 1955 to 1986 and was elected Vice Chairman and Chairman. In May 2001, he was awarded the state's highest honor for an individual architect, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects "25 Year Award."In 1983 he was awarded South Carolina's highest honor from the Governor, The Order of the Palmetto for distinguished services to the state, and in 1984 he was presented the Verner Award by the S.C. Fine Arts Commission for his contributions to the Arts in education in South Carolina.Surviving are his wife: Susan Watson McClure of Pendleton; son: Christopher McClure and wife, Joyce Davis of Raleigh, NC; son: Wesley McClure and wife Susan of Raleigh, NC; daughter: Beth McClure and husband Rick Sigmon of Columbia; step daughter: Melanie Lail and husband Don of Charlotte, NC; brothers: John McClure of Silver Spring, MD and Kenneth McClure of Charlottesville, Virginia; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren. William R. "Capt. Billy" McPherson, 72, of Charleston, passed away Friday, November 2, at a local nursing home. Born in Charleston to the late William R. and Nettie Brownlee McPherson, Sr. His beloved wife of 42 years, Helen Adams McPherson predeceased him in 1991. He was a 1947 graduate of Bishop England High School and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mr. McPherson was retired after 43 years from Southeastern Shipping Company as a Stevedore. After retirement Mr. McPherson volunteered with the American Cancer Society. He was a devoted father and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His five sons, Gerald G. McPherson of Bonndau Beach, S.C., William R. McPherson, II, Marty McPherson, Gary C. McPherson, and Joseph E. McPherson, Sr., all of Charleston, a daughter, Gail E. Albert J. Bradbury, 49, husband of Kathleen Battison Bradbury of Charleston died Wednesday, October 31 at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY to Richard G. Bradbury and the late Mary Logan Bradbury. Mr. Bradbury was a bio-medical equipment technician, employed with the Medical University of South Carolina. He served in the United States Navy and Army. Mr. Bradbury was an avid lover of his pets and enjoyed spending time with them. He was of the Catholic faith. His mother, Mary Bradbury, brothers, Thomas and David Bradbury all predeceased Albert. His wife, Kathleen, his father, Richard G. Bradbury of Niagara Falls, NY, brother, Timothy Bradbury of Norfolk, VA, sister, Shelia Bradbury of Buffalo, NY and a niece and nephew all survive Mr. Bradbury. He had retired from the New Orleans Steamship association as a Supervisor, and was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Savannah Italian Club, and Carmelites Nunnery. He had attended both St. Marys Catholic Church in Hampton and the Hopewell Baptist Church.Surviving are, his wife, Susie B. Mr. Charlie C. Padgett, 74, of 1688 Charleston Highway, near Hampton, died Wednesday afternoon at his residence after an extended illness.Mr. Padgett was born in Hampton County, March 20, 1927, a son of the late Charlie and Alice Georgeann Priester Padgett. Mr. Padgett had retired as manager of Lawton Tire and Recapping Company in Hampton, and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a Past Master of the Crocketville Masonic Lodge #248, Past Commander of the Hampton York Rite, Treasurer of the Lily Chapter of the Eastern Star, and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Alee Shrine Temple and Charter member of the Jahab Shrine Club, and member of the Sylvania Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Sandy Run Baptist Church. Surviving are, his wife, Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Sauls Padgett of Hampton; two brothers, James Padgett and Roy Wingler, both of Hampton; and was pre-deceased in death by a brother, Hilbert Padgett and by a sister, Alice Elverta Padgett Wingler. There are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, in the Sandy Run Baptist Church, conducted by Rev.
