MILLER, SR., Ernest
COLUMBIA - Services for Ernest Hite Miller, Sr., of Columbia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Citizens Bank of South Carolina will be held at Shandon United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 6, at 2 p.m., with interment following at 4:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Trenton, S.C. The family will receive visitors in Columbia on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, and at other times at the home of Caro and Cal Cassels, 112 Addie Street in Trenton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army for the benefit of victims of the World Trade Center tragedy, 1301 Lady Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201, or to the Music and Arts Fund at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, S.C. 29205.
Mr. Miller died on Saturday, November 3, 2001. A native of Trenton, he was the son of the late Ruth Hite Miller and Willie Walter Miller. He attended the public schools of Trenton and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a degree in accounting, where he was in the Naval ROTC and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was twice on active duty in the Navy, serving three years in the Pacific in World War II as a Communications and Line Officer and was recalled to duty in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Miller's entire career was in the field of banking, beginning with the Bank of Trenton. When it merged with First Citizens Bank of S.C. in 1980, he joined the Trust office in Columbia. Subsequently, he served in Spartanburg as a Regional Director before returning to the Columbia office. He served the bank as President and Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, a position he held at the time of his death. He was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church where he served on the finance committee and was a member of the Joy Class. He served as a director of the Upper Savannah District, a member of the State Board of Education, and the S.C. Bankers Association.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean Caro Padget and the following, daughter and son-in-law, Caro and Cal Cassels of Trenton; sons and daughters-in-law, Hite, Jr., and Annette Miller of West Columbia, and Clay and Kim Miller of Dalton, Ga.; granddaughters, Cassie Cassels of Trenton and Meredith Cassels of Aiken; grandsons, Hite, III, and Cameron Miller of West Columbia, and Andrew, Grant, Bryan, and Chase Miller of Dalton. He is also survived by a sister, Ruth Miller Simons of Florence and was predeceased by brothers W.W. Miller, Jr., and Edward E. Miller, and a sister, Dorothy Miller Wilson.
Hite Miller possessed the very highest level of character and integrity, and standards from which he never deviated. His Christian faith was deeply held and resulted in a life filled with love and compassion, generosity and wisdom.

ZIX, Lorraine
Lorraine G. Zix, 81, of North Charleston, S.C., died November 2, 2001, in a local hospital.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday morning, November 5, 2001, at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, at 9 o'clock. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Berkeley County PAWS, P.O. Box 903, Goose Creek, S.C. 29445, or Francis Willis SPCA, P.O. Box 1116, Summerville, S.C. 29484.

RAMSEY, Donald
Donald Lyn Ramsey, 46, of Ladson, S.C., died November 2, 2001, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, November 6, 2001, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Plantation Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home, this Monday evening, from 6 to 9 o'clock.

Walter Edwards Bouchard, 70, of Summerville, S.C., died November 2, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, November 6, 2001, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel at 10 o'clock. Burial services with full military honors will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery, Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. HARRIOTT, Hattie
Mrs. Hattie Viola Nix Harriott, 66, of 659 Furman - Nixville Parkway, died Saturday afternoon in the Hampton Regional Medical center.
Mrs. Harriott was born in Hampton County, September 29, 1935 a daughter of the late Haston Monahue Nix and Tiny Hadwin Nix. Mrs. Harriott had retired from the Vacation Wear Manufacturing Company, and she was the widow of the late Nathan Carlisle Harriott.
Surviving are one son: Clyde M. Harriott of Estill; daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Greg Mixson of Hampton; one brother, Linburg Nix of Hampton; and two grandchildren: Tiffany and Greg Mixson, Jr. of Hampton. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Michael Frederickson, with burial in the DeLoach cemetery near Nixville.
Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday until the hour of services.

EVANS, JAMES AND JORDAN
Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, Little Twin Angels, James and Jordan Evans. They are the beloved angels of Mr. James and Mrs. Cathy Evans of 4988 Hyde Avenue, North Charleston, SC and beloved brother and sister of Master Hector Matthews and Master Joshua Sams and Little Miss Talia Brown. Joseph H. "Red" Bokern, Jr., 76, husband of Hazel Fiddie Bokern of North Charleston died Saturday November 3, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Bokern was born Monday, December 8, 1924 in Charleston the son of the late Joseph Henry Bokern, Sr. and Mary Margaret Ferrera Bokern. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II and retired as a Boilermaker with the Etiwan Fertilizer Company. Mr. Bokern was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Charleston Rifle Club, Elks Lodge #242, and the American Legion Post #147. Surviving are his wife of 55 years Hazel F. Bokern, three sons: Joseph H. Bokern, III, George F. Bokern and Robert C. Bokern all of Charleston, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister: Geraldine B. Crosby of Walterboro and a brother: Ralph R. Bokern of Charleston. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Bokern, Jr. are invited to attend the funeral service for the former at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1393 Miles Dr. Friends may call at the JAMES A. KING, Helen
FLORENCE, S.C. - Helen Louise Smith King, 80, of 1085 S. Old Ebenezer Road, Florence, S.C., died Monday morning, November 5, 2001, at her residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum directed by STOUDENMIRE-DOWLING FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends, 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. King was born in Andrews, S.C., a daughter of the late Richard L. and Etta Boyd Smith. She taught in the public schools of Williamsburg and Darlington Counties and taught at Greenwood and Delmae Grammer Schools and the S.C. Industrial School for Boys in Florence County. She was a member of the local, South Carolina and National Education Associations. She was a member of Faith Southern Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bizzan DuBose "B.D." King, who died in 1999.
Surviving are one sister, Genelle (James) Abrams of Andrews, S.C.; and one nephew, James Richard Abrams of Andrews, S.C.

Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of Saturday, November 3, 2001, Mr. James (Khalil Muhammed) Alston. He is the beloved father of Mr. Carlos and Donnell James Alston, Ms. Andrea Cherry, and Ms. Nicole Alston. Beloved son of Ms. Ida Mae Alston. Beloved brother of Mrs. Shirley A. Green, Ms. Cleo Yvonne (Tiny), Patricia, Ann, and Delores Alston, Mr. Irvin and Ronald Alston, and Mr. Richard Williams. Funeral notice later. ANDERSON, JR., James
James Lee "Bubba" Anderson, Jr., 61, of Columbia, SC, formerly of Cordesville, SC, a former production worker for Gates Rubber Co, died Sunday in a Columbia hospital.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the graveside in the Cordesville Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. this Tuesday evening.
Mr. Anderson was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Cordesville, SC, a son of James Lee Anderson, Sr. and Isabell Bunch Anderson. He was a member of the Cordesville First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School.
Surviving are two sons, James Lee "Jim" Anderson, III of West Columbia, and Fred G. Anderson of Gaston, SC; two sisters, Barbara Ann Williams of Dublin, Ga. and Frances A. Wright of Columbia; one brother, Charles Anderson of Summerville; a granddaughter, Whitney Allyn Anderson of Irmo; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

FLOYD, Roland
Roland L. Floyd, 78, of St. Stephen, SC, a former kennel manager at the Oakland Club, died Sunday at his residence.
The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the ST. STEPHEN CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Belle Isle Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. this Tuesday evening.
Mr. Floyd was born Feb. 7, 1923, in St. Stephen, SC, a son of Douglas Floyd and Kizzie Matthews Floyd. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Young of Asheville, NC and Pauline Slagle of St. Stephen; two sisters, Mae Keller of Greenville and Nell Wadford of St. Stephen; one brother, Neal Floyd of Rose Hill, NC; and five grandchildren.

JONES, SR., Vernon
ROUND O - Mr. Vernon Virgil Jones, Sr., 73, of 65 Deep Water Trail died Sunday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Craig officiating. Interment will follow Friday in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Eclectic, Alabama.
Mr. Jones was born in Colleton County, a son of the late James Madison Jones and Kelsey Hudson Jones. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, having served twice in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Eclectic, Alabama.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Ann Jennings Jones; five sons, Vernon Virgil Jones, Jr. of Jemison, Alabama, Ronald Terry Jones of Humble, Texas, Donald Michael Jones of Tallassee, Alabama, Randy Maddy Jones, Sr. of Mount Airy, NC and Marion Ricky Jones of Wetumpka, Alabama; two sisters, Vergie J. Smoak and Miriam J. Craven, both of Walterboro; a brother, Clements Jones of Charleston and thirteen grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant son, sisters, Nerma Smoak, Audrey Lee Jones and Uelia Jones and a brother, Carroll Jones.
The family will receive friends at the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME following the funeral service until 8:00 p.m.

PINCKNEY, JR., Gus
WALTERBORO - Gus Pinckney, Jr., 70, of Mt. Vernon, NY and formerly of Walterboro, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, in New York.
The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2001, in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Walterboro. Burial will be in Ireland Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Pinckney was born in Walterboro, and was a son of Edna Adams Pinckney and the late Gus Pinckney, Sr. He attended the public schools in Colleton County and retired from Westchester County Penitentiary in Valhalla, NY.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Pinckney, Mt. Vernon, NY; six daughters, Barbara Davis, Bamberg, SC, Theola Pinckney and Denise Davis of Brooklyn, NY, Glenda Pinckney, Moncia Pinckney and Alicia Pinckney all of Mt. Vernon, NY; two sons, Gus Eugene Pinckney, Brooklyn, NY and Ronnie Pinckney, Queens, NY; his mother, Edna Pinckney, Walterboro; two step-children, Helen McKineno and Kallip Wise, Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, Roosevelt Pinckney, Daytona, Fla., Thomas Pinckney, Walterboro and Earnest T. Pinckney, Brooklyn, NY; five sisters, Mary Ann Washington, Walterboro, Margaret Pinckney, Brooklyn, NY, Carmel Ray Pinckney and Aeileen Pinckney, White Plains, NY and Henrietta Pinckney, Mt. Vernon, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

JAYROE, Inez
GEORGETOWN - Inez Lawrimore Jayroe, age 84, wife of the late James Cecil Jayroe, of Magnigault Court, died Sunday, November 4, 2001 at Heartland Nursing Center in Charleston. Mrs. Jayroe was born in Georgetown, a daughter of the late John Russell Lawrimore, Sr. and Annie Jane Brown Lawrimore. She was a member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church in Bucksport and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest E. Lawrimore and John Russell Lawrimore, Jr., and one sister, Maude Lawrimore Humphries.
Surviving are two sisters, Bertha Lawrimore Cole of Pawley's Island and Lena Lawrimore Moore of Conway; eleven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at GOLDFINCH FUNERAL HOME, CONWAY CHAPEL with the Rev. Robbin King officiating. Burial will follow at Waccamaw Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

DUBOIS, Jessie
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 4, 2001, Jessie Marian Yarley DuBois, widow of Ivy L. Dubois. Residence, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Funeral services for Mrs. DuBois will be held in Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at one o'clock. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road this Tuesday evening from six until eight o'clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, 2105 Cosgrove Avenue, N. Charleston, SC 29405.
Born December 12, 1920 in Ehrhardt, SC, Mrs. DuBois was the daughter of the late Linnar George and Annie Laurie Clayton Yarley. She was a graduate of Ehrhardt High School and attended night classes at The Citadel in Charleston. She was retired from the Charleston Naval Hospital where she was Director of Finance. Mrs. DuBois was a member of Cherokee Place United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Boone Bowen Bible Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of Marshlands Chapter of the American Business Women's Association and was named their 1974 Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the Charleston Rod and Reel Club, the Sandhurst Garden Club and Woodman of the World, Fort Sumter Lodge No.1.
Surviving Mrs. DuBois are two sons, James Ivy DuBois and Gregory Marion DuBois, both of Charleston; four grandchildren, J. Dru DuBois, Clay H. DuBois, Cherrie Lynn Kopacz and Victoria A. DuBois; and one great-grandchild, Hunter Bryan Kopacz.
