McCULLOUGH, Alton
KINGSTREE - Alton Hale McCullough, Sr., 80, died Wednesday in a Charleston hospital.
Mr. McCullough was born in Lane, S.C., a son of John Arthur McCullough and Elizabeth Eason McCullough. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a Naval Flight Instructor for five years during World War II. Mr. McCullough was retired from Koppers Company, Inc., and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Mr. McCullough was the Mayor of Lane, S.C., for three decades, and was a former member of Lane Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, where he served as both deacon and elder. He was a longstanding director of the Lane Industrial Development Corp., and was a longtime supporter of the University of South Carolina athletic program. He was a life member of Inglesby Lodge #267 AFM in Greeleyville, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.
Survivors include, wife, Blanche Gamble McCullough of Kingstree; one son, Alton H. McCullough (Jane) of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Marguerite McCullough Appleby of the Presbyterian Home in Florence; two grandchildren, Alton H. McCullough, III, and Helen Wilson McCullough of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., graveside at Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday. BERRY, Hilda
WALTERBORO - Mrs. Hilda Hiott Berry, 85, of 115 Weiters St., died Tuesday at a Walterboro hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, at the chapel of the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Jack Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Berry was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Willie Lee Hiott and Orrie Drawdy Hiott. She was a retired sales clerk for Edward's Five and Dime and was the widow of Harold Berry. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU, and was also a member of the Ladies Missionary Group at Tabor United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Billy O'Quinn of Walterboro, five grandchildren, Michael O'Quinn, Sharon O'Quinn, Keitha Drawdy, Curtis Conrad, and Judy Benjamin, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Pearl Conrad.

WALTERBORO - Mr. Howard Lin Woodard, 72, of 109 Rose Avenue died Monday at a nursing center in Beaufort. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of the BRICE W. Mr. Woodard was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late Howard L. Woodard and Bernice Stamm Woodard. He was a retired employee with the New York Central Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Walterboro and was the husband of the late Virginia Woodard.
Surviving are his daughter, Denna Marie Schoolcraft of Indiana, a brother, George Woodard of Walterboro, a half brother, Greg Graham of Ruffin, a sister, Connie Dill of Indianapolis, Indiana, and a grandchild, Paul Schoolcraft.

Mrs. Massalon died Wednesday, November 7, 2001. Born in Ashville, NC and raised in Charleston, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Asbury P. and Ada Evans Presnell. She was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church.

Baker Earl White, of Waycross, Georgia died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
He was born May 6, 1934, in Marion, South Carolina. He was a son of the late Clarence Pickett and Florrie Belle Richardson White.
Private memorial graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001 at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery in Conway, South Carolina.

She is survived by her husband of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Linda V. He is survived by his wife of Charleston; two sons: Dennis J. Fisher, M.D. of Charleston, SC and Allan L. Fisher of Potomac, Maryland; one daughter, Sharon F. Stricker of Charleston, SC; two sisters: Rose F. Laban-Meth of Boca Raton, Florida and Laura F. Hecker of Statan Island, N.Y.; one brother: Bob Fisher of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and seven grandchildren.

GRIFFEN, William
William W. Griffen of Berwyn, Pa., died Tuesday, October 30, 2001 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He was a resident of Charleston from 1956 until 1974. The Reverend Canon Samuel T. Cobb will officiate at a Funeral Service to be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 9 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
Born May 27, 1925 in Kingston, PA to John Griffen and Mary Pennypacker Griffen. He joined the US Navy during W.W.II, serving Seabee construction battalions building airfields throughout the Pacific Theater. After the war he completed his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Virginia.
He married in 1953 to Nancy Kennedy Luke and began his law practice in West Chester, PA. Bill moved his family to Charleston in 1956. He was an active supporter of the Republican Party and a member of the Charleston Club, Country Club of Charleston, Yeaman's Hall Club and the Carolina Yacht Club.
He moved from Charleston to Southeastern, Pennsylvania in 1974, and resumed the practice of law as a partner in the firm of Butler, Griffen and Mannix until his retirement in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his three sons, William W. Griffen, Jr., Thomas K. Griffen and J. Pennypacker Griffen; two sisters, Elizabeth G. Wilbert and Catherine G. Berry; and a granddaughter, Mary Gray Griffen.

NACHTIGAL, Genevieve
Genevieve M. Nachtigal, former resident of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, November 2, 2001 at Larchwood Inns Nursing Home in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Genevieve was born November 14, 1915 at Monessen, Pa. to Frank and Mary Masiglowa Wolanski. She spent her childhood and graduated from South High School in Youngstown, Ohio. On August 25, 1941, Jean Married Frank P. Nachtigal in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. They moved to Mount Pleasant, SC in 1980 and lived there until 1998 when they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to be near their daughter.
Genevieve was a member of the Catholic Church. She had been a receptionist for many businesses including the NEA Newspaper. For enjoyment she played the accordion, and loved to dance and roller skate dance. She was noted for her beautiful smile and was a good cook.
Her husband, Frank of Grand Junction, Colorado, daughter, Gail Price of Aspen, Colorado and a sister, Estelle Kilroy survive her.
A graveside service was held Monday, November 5, 2001 at Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado at P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506.

Born in Charleston, S.C., August 7, 1974, Mr. Muscott moved to Manatee County, Fla., from Port Charlotte, Fla., in 1993. He was a partner with Tri Company Irrigation and was later employed as a well driller with Absolute Water Company. He was a member of Sarasota Family Worship Center and Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, S.C. He was a drug and alcohol counselor with Carolina Outreach Drug and Alcohol Center prior to moving to Florida.
Survivors include, wife, Angie Muscott of Bradenton; two daughters, Chelsea and Morgan; two sons, Chandler and Austin; one sister, Dorothy Christine Muscott of Summerville, S.C.; parents, Jim and Elise Muscott of Summerville, S.C.; paternal grandmother, Florence Muscott of Summerville, S.C.
LENON, George
WALTERBORO - George Lenon, 97, formerly of Walterboro and widower of Ethel McFadden Lenon, died October 31, 2001.
The funeral will be in the Hamilton's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in the Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro.
Mr. Lenon was born in the state of Georgia and moved to Walterboro, South Carolina early in his life. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Walterboro and a former member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in
Yemassee.
Survivors are: two step-sons, Judson McFadden (Shirely) of Green Pond and Robert McFadden of Santa Clara, California; one step-daughter, Ethel McFadden of Syracuse, New York; a son-in-law, Emanuel Whitlock of Walterboro and a granddaughter, Anglette Holmes (Carl) of Summerville.

JUDGE, JR., Curtis
Curtis Herert Judge, Jr., formerly of White Plains, recently of Charleston, SC died on November 7, 2001 at age 77. He joined R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1965 as Vice President of Marketing and resided in Winston-Salem, NC until he joined Lorillard in 1970. Mr. Judge was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lorillard from 1970 until his retirement in 1985. He served on the Board of Directors for Loews Corp. Following service in World Warr II as a pilot in the Air Force, Mr. Judge received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas in 1947. Following a year practicing law, Mr. Jude joined Colgate-Palmolive Co. Mr. Judge received numerous honors and awards from his peers. In 1981 he was inducted in the N.A.T.D. Tobacco Hall of Fame. He served two terms as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Tobacco Institute, the trade association of U.S. Cigarette Manufacturers. He was married for 52 years to the late Rosemary Tom Judge. Mr. Judge is survived by two children, Curtis H. Judge, III of Harrisonburg, Va., and Kate Longo of White Plains. Also survived by three grandchildren. Services will be private.
