Dr. Owilender Kennedy Grant was born August 29, 1929 in Colleton County, South Carolina the daughter of the late Carl Kennedy and Eddrie Black Kennedy departed this life November 3, 2001 in a local hospital.
She graduated with first honors from Colleton County Schools and South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC., in Mathematics in 1950. She received her masters degree from the Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, in 1955 and a doctorate of philosophy in Mathematics Education from the University of South Carolina in 1978.
Dr. Grant accomplished 45 years of teaching in the field of education. She was a public school teacher at Colleton High School in Walterboro, SC and Burke High School in Charleston, SC. In 1972, she was selected to be the first black professor at the College of Charleston. In 1977, she was promoted to Project Director for the Upward Bound Program where she retired, she returned to education at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1986. She became Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and later, Chairman of the Division of Natural Sciences. In her final retirement, she became an adjunct professor at Charleston Southern University.
She married the late Reverend Canon Henry L. Grant.
Dr. Grant received numerous awards and citations. She was a member of Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and was bestowed the honor of "Golden Soror" for fifty years of service and held the office of treasurer. She was a member of The Links of America, Incorporated, which she received recognition for twenty-five years of service from the Raleigh Chapter in North Carolina, Jack and Jill of America Incorporated served as president of the Charleston Chapter.
Surviving are a son, Henry L. Grant, II; a daughter-in-law, Constance Jones Grant; two grandsons, Alexander Lacy Grant and Andrew Joseph Grant of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Carl B. Kennedy (Louise) of Columbia, SC., two sisters, Pamela Allen (Samuel), of Barnwell, SC., Darlene Watso (Joey) of New York, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ford was born March 11, 1929 in Blackbrook, New York, the daughter of Edward and Alice Frenyea. She was the widow of Bernard F. Ford and a retired administrative assistant of the R.O.T.C. program at Baptist College.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Noel Bostain of Dorchester, her son, Michael Ford of Palm Springs, California, her granddaughters, Bernadette Rose Bostain and Brittany Noel Soileau and a great-grandson, Brandon Pierce Soileau. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Richard Frenyea of Peru, NY and two sisters, Alice Bushy of Morrisonville, NY and Dorothy Kruse of Pennsylvania Furnace, PA.

Mrs. Sandra Faye Tate "Sandy" Bierer 68 of 144 Salkehatchie Road in Yemassee, died Wednesday morning in the Bayview Nursing Center in Beaufort, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Bierer was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvannia May 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Lawrence Camden Tate and Grace Sutton Tate. She was the former Director of the Merrick Art Gallery and Museum in New Brighton, Pennsylvania was a member of the Eastern Star in Pennsylvania, and the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Yemassee.
Surviving are: Her husband: Thomas William Bierer of Yemassee; son: William Scott Bierer of New Brighton, Pennsylvania, son and daughter-in-law: David Tate Bierer and Anita Bierer of Hampton; one sister: Wanda Borsa of New Freedom, Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren: Elizabeth Bierer of Hampton, Richard and Stephen Bierer of New Brighton, Pennsylvania.
