Thompson, Myra Jean

YONGES ISLAND - Myra Jean Wells Thompson, 52, of Yonges Island died Thursday, April 19, 2001.
She was born in Anderson.

Surviving are widower, John "Terry" Thompson of Yonges; son, Patrick "Devlin" Thompson of Athens, Ga.; mother, Helen Yeargin Wells of Anderson; and sisters, Linda Christine of Aiken and Emily Hickman of Bladenboro, N.C.

She was the daughter of the late James F. Wells.

Services will be held later.

The family suggests memorials be made to Jane Goodall Institute, Attn: SBL, P.O. Box 14890, Silver Spring, Md. 20911.

Arrangements by the Cremation Center of Charleston, 11 Cunnington Ave., Charleston, S.C. 29405.

Gosnell, Grady

DEMOREST, Ga. - Grady Gosnell, 63, of Demorest died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County, he was a steam box operator at CMI Industries and was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Surviving are widow, Geneva Davis Gosnell of Demorest; daughters, Marie Evans of Mount Airy and Louise Wrenn of Clarkesville; brother, Davis Gosnell of Clarkesville; sisters, Christine Church of Demorest, Catherine Bingham of Demorest and Barbara Weaver of Thomaston; and three grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Olin and Roberta Holcomb Gosnell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lamar Gosnell.

Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, by the Revs. Doug Forrester, Alvin Burns and Billy Burrell; burial will follow in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The body is at the funeral home, where the family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and will do so from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The family is at the residence.

Goodwyn, Harold

Harold E. Goodwyn, 65, of 1213 Bolt Drive, Anderson, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Prince George County, Va., he was educated in Virginia. He was a member of Asbury Memorial Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years.

Surviving are widow, Gladys Willis Goodwyn of the home; son, Eric Harold Goodwyn of New York; daughter, Adrienne K. Goodwyn of South Carolina; mother, Bessie Mae Williams of New York; and two grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Thaddeus and Wilmina Ferdinad Willis. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Lee Goodwyn, and a sister, Sarah Goodwyn Beard.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Jarvis Brown; interment will be in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The family is at the home.

The Unity Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ramey, Frank

MOUNTAIN REST - Franklin Delano "Frank" Ramey, 64, of 388 State Park Road died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Oconee County, he was a carpenter with Potts Construction Company, a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist.

Surviving are widow, Pauline Rogers Ramey of the home; daughter, Audrey R. Lanning of Salem; brothers, Jerry W. Ramey and Jim Ramey, both of Mountain Rest, Clyde Ramey of Walhalla and Robert Ramey of Mountain Rest; sister, Shirley Pearson Pifer of Walhalla; and one grandchild.

He was the son of the late William David and Lula Irene Hancox Ramey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Ernest Ramey; and two sisters, Bertha Lay and Lula Mae Ramey.

Services are at 4 p.m, Sunday at Salem Baptist Church; burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davenport Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The family is at the home.

Pressley, Tommy

LIBERTY - Tommy Joe Pressley, 63, of 207 Odell St. died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, he was a retired engineer from Ryobi and a member of the East Side Baptist Church. He was a former Liberty City Councilman and had served as Mayor Pro Tem. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Liberty for 36 years and had just recently retired.

Surviving are widow, Patsy Seaborn Pressley of the home; son, Neal Pressley of Greenville; sister, Bernice Owens of Liberty; and two grandchildren.

He was the son of the late John Frank and Inez Henderson Pressley.

Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at East Side Baptist Church by the Revs. Gene Lloyd and Carlton Cleveland; burial will be in Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the Family Life Center of the church prior to the service.

The family suggests memorials be made to East Side Baptist Church, 920 Anderson Drive, Liberty, S.C. 29657.

The family is at the home.

Liberty Mortuary, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Nelms, Bobby

DEMOREST, Ga. - Bobby Loyd Nelms, 71, of Demorest died Friday, April 20, 2001 at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in White County, he worked at Fieldale and was a Holiness.

Surviving are widow, Maggie Collins Nelms of Demorest; daughters, Joyce Brown of Baldwin, Janice Taylor and Debbie Smith, both of Mount Airy; sons, Robby Nelms and Bobby Nelms, both of Clarkesville; sisters, Louise Collins, Annie Burrell and Rosie Sutton, all of Demorest, and Exie Loudermilk of Mount Airy; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Jim and Florence Shelnut Nelms.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home; burial will be in Macedonia Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family is at the home, 251 Habersham Mills Road, Demorest.

Moore, Pollie

WESTMINSTER - Pollie Rachel Stone Moore, 92, of 221 Dickson St. died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Georgia, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Charles Moore and Tony Moore, both of Westminster, Levi Moore of Liberty and Lewis Moore of Anderson; daughters, Daphne Murphree of Fair Play, Anna Goodwin of Walhalla, Dovie Wood, Lucille Heffner and Karen Dickson, all of Westminster; 36 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of William Horace Moore and the daughter of the late Lewis Jackson and Georgia Whitfield Stone. She was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Grover Moore; daughter, Loraine Fabiano; two brothers, Robert and Ed Stone; and six sisters, Emma Phillips, Ida Adams, Kate Dooley, Mae Holbrooks, Callie Stone and Lillie Stone.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Old Liberty Baptist Church by the Revs. Gary Blackwell and John McKnight; burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The body is at Sandifer Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Flowers are accepted. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, S.C. Affiliate, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 311, Columbia, S.C., 29204, or to The Gideon International, Westminster Camp, P.O. Box 662, Westminster, S.C. 29693.

The family will be at the residence of a daughter, Karen Dickson, 222 Dickson St., Westminster.

Lucas, David

SHELBY, N.C - The Rev. David Edward Lucal, 80, of 804 Elmwood Drive died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born in Westmoreland County, Va., he was a U.S. Army World War II 1st Sgt., served in Chaplaincy Corps, Italy and Northern Africa Campaigns, attended Mars Hill College, graduated from Furman College in 1949, attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary College, Fort Worth, Texas, and was a Baptist Minister pastoring at Ross Grove Baptist Church, Shelby; Rock Springs, Rutherford Co.; and churches in South Carolina, Maryland and New Hampshire.

Surviving are widow, Grace Barnette Lucas of the home; son, David Lowell Lucas of Blacksburg; daughters, Grace Dawson of Grover and Wanda Eaker of Shelby; sister, Peggy Ellerbusch of Shelby; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Benjamin and Annie Bel Washington Lucas. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Melvin Lucas; and a sister, Blanche Forstoffer.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Westview Baptist Church by the Revs. Jim Brackett and Clyde Kerry; burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Cecil Burton Funeral Home, 106 Cheryville Highway, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

The family suggests memorials be made to Westview Baptist Church, 500 Melody Lake, Shelby, N.C. 28152.

Howard, Jean M.

Jean Marie Johnson Howard, 67, of 1206 Bolt Drive, Anderson, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Fort Lupton, Colo., she was a homemaker and was a former resident of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Ithaca, N.Y. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca and was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church in Anderson, where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday school class, the Dorcas Circle and the Centralites.

Surviving are daughter, Michele Alexander of Anderson; son, Jeffrey Howard of Anderson; sisters, Elizabeth Comer of Goose Creek and Ellade M. Conkey of Laramie Wyo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was the widow of Frank Scott Howard and the daughter of the late Friend E. and Io Gifford Johnson.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Central Presbyterian Church by Dr. David J. Bailey; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, downtown chapel. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Green, Eliza B.

Eliza B. Green, 84, formerly of Westview Avenue, Anderson, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Magnolia Manor, Greenwood.
Born in Doogan, Ga., she was a retired employee of Hardwicks Clothing Manufacturing Co. and a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Chatsworth, Ga.

Surviving are son, Jerry Greene of Anderson; brother, W. Carl Green of Cleveland, Tenn.; sister, Sarah Thomas of Tellco Plains, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late John Green and Mary Elizabeth Green Green. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Turner; six brothers; and two sisters.

A Cryptside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel; entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at The McDougald Funeral Home.

The family is at the home of her son, Jerry Greene, 4101 Old Portman Road, Anderson.

Gilstrap, Homer R.

SUNSET - Homer R. Gilstrap, 91, of 625 Mount Bethel Road died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, he was retired from Alice Manufacturing Company, Elljean Plant and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Robert Gerald Gilstrap of Anderson; daughters, Linda J. Ellis of the home and Betty G. Adams of Simpsonville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was the widower of Mertie Hudson Gilstrap and the son of the late Jesse M. and Elmina Corbin Gilstrap.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home by Dr. Buddy Moore and the Rev. H.C. Couch; burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 602, Pickens, S.C. 29671.

Donald, Furman C.

TOWNVILLE - Furman Clayton Donald, 72, husband of Lottie Shirley Donald, formerly of Townville, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
