HARROD, Emma
Emma Krall Harrod, M.D., was born in Eaton, Ohio, on February 25, 1930. Died at home on Isle of Palms on November 10, 2001, after a brief illness. Kay was the daughter of Bert and Mildred Krall. She attended Jackson Township High School, received a B.S. from Miami University (1952), M.D. from Harvard Medical School (1957), and postgraduate training at the University of Minnesota Hospital and the Children's Hospital of Buffalo. She was a member of the Phi Betta Kappa Society, Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics, and sat on the Rand Capital Corporation Board of Directors. She worked in the fields of clinical pediatrics, genetics, maternal and child health, student health and substance abuse. We will remember Kay with great love for her compassion and caring, her generosity, intelligence, curiosity, boundless energy, and enthusiasm for life. She was at all times a loving wife and mother, a dedicated professional, and a person who cared for both her family and humanity. She was involved in charity work throughout her life and supported the YWCA, March of Dimes, and many others.
Kay is survived by her husband, David Harrod; her children and grandchildren, David Harrod, Kathy Lehman, and Nina Harrod; Eric and Jan Harrod; Mary Ellen Harrod, Tristram Ryvers Ellicott, Ivan Ruhle, and Milo Ellicot; Richard Harrod and Juliette Cook; her sisters, Florence Bowen and Mary Essex.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday the 14 of November from 6:30 to 8:30 at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.

GLOVER, Dorothy
It is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we sadly announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Nesmith Glover.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, however they will be announced at a later date by from Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 701 St. John St., Kingstree, S.C. Rev. Willie Wilson, pastor. The interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Hwy. 52 North, Kingstree, S.C.
Mrs. Glover, age 56, died Friday, November 9, 2001, at the a Florence hospital, Florence, S.C., after an illness.
She was born, October 27, 1946, in Kingstree, S.C., to the late, Mr. Cleveland Nesmith, Sr., and Mrs. Nealey Mae Dorsey Nesmith.
She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she sang on the choir. She was a member of Lady Hattie Wilson Chapter No. 224, Order of the Eastern Star, Bronx, N.Y.
The former Miss Dorothy Mae Nesmith was united on holy matrimony to Mr. Lee Morris Glover.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, two loving daughters, Ms. Annie Mae Nesmith (David Williams) of Bronx, N.Y., and Ms. Gail M. Frazier of the U.S. Air Force, Washington; four caring brothers, Mr. Cleveland (Alma) Nesmith, Jr., and Mr. Victor Nesmith, both of Kingstree, S.C., Mr. Horace Nesmith and Mr. Anthony Nesmith, both of Bronx, N.Y.; three devoted sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae (Vernell) Woods and Ms. Anna Pearl Miller (Nathaniel Goodbread), both of Kingstree, S.C., and Mrs. Brenda (Leo) Burgess of Hemingway, S.C.; three admiring grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family members are receiving friends at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. Vernell and Mrs. Lillie Woods, 825 Thorne Ave., Kingstree, S.C.

ALSTON, James
The funeral services for Mr. James Alston will be held on (today), Monday, November 12, 2001, at 1 o'clock, in the Chapel at Harleston-Boags Funeral Home, Inc. The Rev. J. McDaniel Deas, officiating. SMITH, Helen
Helen Sease Smith, 76, of North Charleston, a retired bookkeeper with Piggly Wiggly, died Sunday in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Lodge, she was the daughter of Claude Sease and Blanch Jones Sease. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Azalea Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Anderson College and taught school in Johnsonville prior to her employment with Piggly Wiggly. She was a member of North Charleston United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William B. "Smitty" Smith; a sister, Amee S. McDaniel of Charleston, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

FINKLEA, Elaine
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 10, 2001, Elaine H. Finklea, widow of Francis Jaudon Finklea. Residence, North Charleston, S.C. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services, Tuesday morning, November 13, 2001, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Finklea was born November 20, 1910, in Valdosta, Ga., a daughter of James Luther Harrell and Annie Lou Harrell Bullock. She attended Charleston County schools and graduated from Memminger High School. She was married to the late Francis Jaudon Finklea. They resided in Ferndale for 50 years before moving to the Goose Creek area to be near there grandchildren. They were the founding members of the Ferndale Missionary Baptist Church where she taught, led the choir, and played the piano regularly. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Chapter #56.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their only daughter, Bettiann. She loved music and children dearly and she taught neighborhood children piano lessons. She enjoyed growing houseplants and had a true love for violets. After Bettiann graduated from North Charleston High School, she married Edward E. Capps, Jr. They had two children, Debbie and Johnny. Mrs. Finklea spent as much time with them as possible, taking them on trips and just "loving" them. As the years passed, they also married and four great-grandchildren came into her life. She loved playing and spending time with them. She was known as "Mama" to every child she met. She will be sadly missed by her daughter and son-in-law Bettiann F. and Edward E. Capps, Jr., of Charleston, grandchildren, Debbie C. and Mark Williams, John E. and Gina Capps, great-grandchildren, Brett Allen Williams, Krista Leigh Williams, Lauren Brittney Capps and Amber Elizabeth Capps all of Goose Creek.

DOYLE, Mildred
Mildred Jones Doyle, 97, widow of Charles Edward Doyle, entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 10, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services, Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at 2 o'clock at J. HENRY STUHR'S, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun St., Charleston, S.C.
Mrs. Doyle was born in Conway, S.C., and a daughter of the late Preston C. and Mary L. Jones.
Mrs. Doyle graduated from Rice Business College, and taught school for many years in Horry County. She retired after working 20 years at Naval Base "Supply Department" as "IBM" operator. She was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughter, Mary Ellen Doyle Blitch of Charleston, S.C., three grandchildren, Mary Margaret Mills, David Eugene Blitch, and Mardi Joy Lempeck, and two great-grandchildren, Aaron Blitch and Christian Blitch.

DUNBAR, Madelyn
Madelyn Huxford Dunbar, 78, wife of Robert Samuel Dunbar, for 58 years, entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 10, 2001. Brooks, Thomas Andrew Dunbar, two great-grandchildren, four sisters, Florence Kurtz, Janet Woodard, Wilma Diveley, and Anne Middleton, and one, brother, H. Russell Huxford.

Entered into eternal rest, Monday, November 12, 2001, Mr. Izell Johnson "Sonny Boy," 63, of 2106 Mt. Pleasant St. He is the beloved companion of Ms. Emily Sampson, father of Floyd Davis and Izell Davis, Jr.; step-father of Lanie Mae Grant, Juliet Taylor, Deborah Williams, Penelope Middleton, Anthony Sampson, Joe Sampson, Bernard Sampson and Lorenzo Sampson; brother of Joseph Giles and Gertrude Blocker. KIMBALL, Dale
Dale Albert Kimball, 65, of Sullivan's Island, died Friday, November 9, at his residence. Mr. Kimball was born December 9, 1935, in Grand Island, Neb., to Wayne Kimball and Lula Beyersdorf Kimball. He attended schools in Nebraska. Mr. Kimball was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Kimball was employed as Public Safety Officer for Patriots Point. He was retired from the Isle of Palms Police Department and from AT&T as a warehouse manager. He was a Catholic and a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church.
Mr. Kimball was predeceased by his wife, Carole Ann Austin Kimball, and a brother, Kenneth Kimball. He is survived by a sister, Betty Lohman of Kearney, Neb., a sister-in-law, Sharon M. Heneghan of DesPlaines, Ill., a niece, Maureen Ann Heneghan of DesPlaines, Ill., a niece, Maureen Ann Heneghan of DesPlaines, Ill., a nephew, Michael P. Heneghan of Chicago, Ill., and several other nieces and nephews, and very close friends, David and Cathy Fox, among many others.
The relatives and friends of Mr. Kimball are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2001, in Stella Maris Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island. Burial will be in Mt. MCAULIFFE, Sister Charlotte
Sister Charlotte McAuliffe, 84, died at the Motherhouse of The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy on Monday morning, November 12, 2001.
Sister Charlotte, formerly Catherine Mary McAuliffe, daughter of Patrick and Charlotte McNeil McAuliffe, was born Monday, December 4, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a graduate of St. Angela Academy, Aiken, SC and Our Lady of Mercy Junior College, Charleston. Sister Charlotte entered the convent on December 8, 1934 and professed her vows on June 14, 1937. For 15 years she supervised the boys department of the City Orphan Home, Queen Street. She also taught in parochial schools in Charleston, Aiken, Sumter and served as Principal of St. Anne's, Sumter and Christ Our King/Stella Maris School in Mt. Pleasant. Sister Charlotte became a member of the Pastoral Care Department of St. Francis Xavier Hospital in 1978, where she worked as Sister Visitor until 1999.
The relatives and friends of Sister Charlotte are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2001 at the Motherhouse, 424 Ft. Johnson Road, James Island. KENNEY, Raymond
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 11, 2001, Raymond L. Kenney, husband of Lucia Vallejo Kenney. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Kenney are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in the Guerry Chapel at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community, 1873 Camp Road, James Island, SC, Wednesday at three o'clock. Interment will be private.
Mr. Kenney was born September 30, 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Leo Kenney and Heazel Kenney. He was a retired senior vice-president with Equi Fax, Inc. of Atlanta. He served with the US Navy in W.W.II.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; three step-sons: Francis V. McShane of Seattle, Washington, Dennis C. McShane of Atlanta, Ga., Michael G.J. McShane of Charleston and seven grandchildren.

BARNES, SR., Edward
PROSPERITY - Funeral service for Edward Reid Barnes, Sr., 77, of Prosperity, was held 1:30 o'clock Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. Service was conducted by the Rev. Carl D. Clary and the Rev. Randall Steven Derrick. Pallbearers were Mr. Barnes grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes died Friday, November 9, 2001. Born in Selma, AL, he was the son of the late William Edward and Marietta Reid Barnes. Mr. Barnes retired from Carnation Milk Company as Regional Sales Manager after 30 years of service. He was a former member of College Place United Methodist Church for 35 years and at the time of his death, a member of Chapin United Methodist Church. Mr. Barnes was a Master Mason, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served in the European Theater.
Survivors are his wife, Martha Gibbons Barnes of Prosperity, sons, Edward R. Barnes, Jr., and wife Barbara M. of Summerville, SC and Carl Richard Barnes of Marathon Key, FL, a daughter, Cissie B. Lewis and her husband Terry of Irmo, SC, five grandchildren, Edward Reid Barnes, III of Atlanta, GA and Jennifer M. Barnes of Atlanta, GA, W.R. Medlin, III of West Columbia, SC; Andrew Richard Medlin and Cody Lewis, both of Irmo, SC; a sister, Martha Barnes Green of Rome, GA; three nephews, William Victor Willingham of Pond Branch, SC, Julian Green of Atlanta, GA; and Richard Green of Rome, GA; a niece, Mary Griffin of Rome, GA. Mr. Barnes is predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Frances Willingham Barnes.

KEMP, Annie Mae
BAMBERG - Annie Mae Kemp, 85, died November 11, 2001 in Laurel Gardens, Florence, SC. She was born in Bamberg a daughter of the late James Jefferson and Henrietta Beard Hughes. Her husband was the late Thomas Edward Kemp, Sr. She was a retired dietician having worked at the Bamberg High School and the Bamberg Hospital.
Mrs. Kemp was a member of the First Baptist Church and an active member in the Sunday school. After her retirement she did volunteer work.
Surviving are a son, Tom (Penny) Kemp, Jr., Turbeville; two daughters, Linda (Jack) Stevenson, Tega Cay, SC and Barbara Ann (Spencer) Ferguson, Bamberg; a brother, Wenzell Hughes, Bamberg; a sister, Myrtle Boineau, Adams Run, SC; a daughter-in-law, Anne Kemp, Evergreen; seven grandchildren, Mardie Kemp, Sonja Carr, Cliff Kemp, Tamara Stevenson Hooper, John Stevenson, Tripp Kemp and Ashleigh Kemp and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Jim Kemp and a grandson, Spence Ferguson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2001 in the First Baptist Church of Bamberg at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Memory Gardens near Bamberg. The family will receive friends at LAYTON-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 4210 West Palmetto Street, Florence, SC, Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of Tom and Penny Kemp at Turbeville, SC. Prior to services in Bamberg, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church.
