KNIGHT, B. Way
Benjamin Way Knight, 89, of Moncks Corner, a retired pulp preparation supervisor with Westvaco, died Sunday at a Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the First Christian Church of Moncks Corner. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Knight was born October 25, 1912, in Ridgeville, S.C., a son of Paul W. Knight and Martha Vaughn Knight. He was a former Moncks Corner Town Council Member. He was a member and trustee of the First Christian Church of Moncks Corner.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Ruth Jones Knight of Moncks Corner; three sons, B.W. "Bud" Knight, Jr., of Savannah, Ga.; Danny Knight of Mt. Pleasant; Larry Knight of Summerville; sister, Caryl Louise Rodgers of Walterboro; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Martin was born January 15, 1944, in Florence, S.C., the son of Ralph Franklin Martin and Margaret Chaplin Martin. He was a retired attorney and a member of Old St. Andrew's Parish Episcopal Church. He served with the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia School of Law.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen M. Rodwell of Folly Beach, S.C., three grandchildren, Evan T. Rodwell, Shelby K. Rodwell and Ansley E. Rodwell; one sister, Eugenia M. Benson of Charleston, S.C., and a special friend, Patricia Canfield Ackerman.

James Island and Charleston lost a friend today in the passing of R. Blair Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers and his family operated the F.S. Rodgers Landscape and Nursery on James Island for over 50 years. The azaleas and camellias they raised continue to adorn landscapes on James Island and downtown Charleston. Mr. Rodgers was dedicated to the well being and care-giving of family members throughout his years and particularly during hard times.
Surviving are one son, John J. Mikell of James Island, S.C.; one daughter, Kitsy M. Wise of James Island, S.C.; two brothers, Jimmy Rodgers of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Jack Rodgers of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret Madsen of Johns Island, S.C., and Frances Korstad of Durham, N.C.; two grandsons, Kelly Wise and Danny Mikell; two granddaughters, Amy Taylor and Becky McKee; two great-grandchildren, all of James Island, S.C.; many nieces and nephews.
WATSON, JR., William
Colonel William Ready Watson, Jr., U.S. Army, Ret., 74, husband of Dolly N. Watson of Mt. Pleasant, died after a prolonged illness on the evening of Sunday, November 18, 2001. The funeral service will be Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at 12 noon, at the graveside, Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, with full military honors. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, this evening (Tuesday) from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
Col. Watson was born November 17, 1927, in Henderson, N.C., the son of William R. and Natalie Kammer Watson. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and a 1948 graduate of the Citadel. He was a member of the Charleston Citadel Club and the Brigadier Club. He served 28 years in the U.S. Army in both Artillery and Aviation divisions. His tours of duty include Korea, Salzburg, Austria, and Vietnam. Awarded medals include, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Defense Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. He retired in 1975.
An avid golfer, he was a former co-owner of "The Golf Shack" in Mt. Pleasant. He was a longtime member of Snee Farm Golf Club and Men's Golf Association.
Col. Watson is survived by his wife, Dolly Norfleet Watson, his daughter and son-in-law, Robin (Mark) Watson Levy; his sons and daughters-in-law, William R. (Joan) Watson, III, of Granville, Ill., Robert N. (Darlene) Watson of Elon, N.C., and Richard A. (Janet) Watson of Burlington, N.C. His sister, Dorothy V. Watson of Charleston. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Treasured by all who knew him, we were honored to have been loved, fathered and befriended by him.

Mr. Gatch was born in Gloverville, SC, August 26, 1912, the son of Allen Joseph Gatch and Annie Lee Hill Gatch. He was an electrical engineer for the United Piece Dye Works until his retirement. He was a member of the Citadel Square Baptist Church, and a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, Chicora Lodge #366. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #776 for over 60 years.
Surviving are his wife of North Charleston, SC; two sons, James Bailey Gatch of Charleston, SC, Perry Jonathan Gatch, Jr. of North Huntingdon, PA; one daughter, Cheryl Gatch McLaurin of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Ethel Addison of New York, NY, and Ann Dowdy of North Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Terri Sowers of North Huntingdon, PA, Barry E. McLaurin, III of Marietta, GA, Lorree Gatch of Charlotte, NC, Annette Harris of North Huntingdon, PA, P.J. NUSSMAN, Ozella
Ozella Campbell Nussman, 79, of North Charleston, a volunteer with the Lutheran Service Center, died Monday in a local nursing facility. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Gastonia, N.C., she was the daughter of Otto Campbell and Fannie Misenheimer Campbell. Mrs. Nussman was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was the widow of Harry M. Nussman.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Cooper of Goose Creek; sons, Stephen Nussman of Summerville and Harry Nussman, Jr. of Cottageville; a sister, Ruth Eidson of Salisbury, N.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Maria Roels Sherrer, 77, of Charleston, died Sunday, November 18, 2001 at a local nursing center. She was born in Antwerp, Belgium and has been a longtime Charleston resident. Maria is survived by her husband of 49 years, Louis Sherrer, a son, Jimmy Sherrer of Charleston, two daughters, Betty Ann Scott of Charleston, Linda Myzell of Ridgeville and five grandchildren, Ryan Sherrer, Tracy Scott, Ashley Sherrer, Alex and Lauren Kirby. BENNETTS POINT - Mr. George Gary Rizer, III, 55, of 14995 Bennetts Point Road, died Monday. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Glendale Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Mabry officiating and directed by the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Rizer was born in Columbia, a son of Ottie Lee "Totsy" Ramsey Rizer and the late George Gary Rizer, Jr. He was an employee with Emcompass Technologies, a member of the SC National Guard, a Mason and a member of the Green Pond Fire Department.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Walterboro are his wife, Mickie Robertson Rizer, sons, Derrick Rizer of Warrior, Alabama, DeWayne Rizer and David Rizer, both of Bennetts Point, and Chris Rizer of Maine, a daughter, Sherri Rizer of Atlanta, Georgia, a sister, Ruth Rizer of Walterboro, a brother, Homer Rizer of Bennetts Point, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Allen Rizer.
SMYLY, Eugene
RUFFIN - Eugene W. Smyly, 85, a retired welder at Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Tuesday at a local Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME, conducted by Rev. Ed Stiltz and Rev. David Cox. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smyly was born January 10, 1916 in Ruffin, a son of the late Charles Stephens Smyly and Phoebie Williams Smyly. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and a former member of the official board. He was past worshipful master of Bells Masonic Lodge #236 A.F.M. and had recently received his 60 year pin. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Italy and Austria. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, Mary G. Smyly of Ruffin; two daughters, Gloria S. Valentine of Ruffin and Donna S. Myrick of Ulmer; a brother, Richard Smyly of Barnwell; three sisters, Lenora S. Keegan and Phoebie S. Phillips both of Walterboro and Shirley S. Lawhon of the Isle of Palms, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
