Mr. Smith, Jr. was born on May 29, 1917 in Phoenixville, Pa., the son of Charles Edward Smith, Sr. and Elizabeth G. Smith. He was a graduate of Penn State University. He retired as Vice President of Ward Machinery. He was a member of Towson Presbyterian Church in Towson, Maryland, a Mason, 32nd degree Shriner, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra S. Scruggs of Folly Beach, SC and Linda S. Carey of Lafayette, California; one brother, William Smith of Piney Flats, Tenn.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Brown Schlegel, 81, widow of Robert W. Schlegel of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died Wednesday, November 20, 2001, in a local nursing home. The Memorial Service will be Monday evening, November 26, 2001, in Rivers Funeral Home, Aiken, S.C., at 6 o'clock. A graveside service will be in George Washington Memorial, Paramus, N.J., Thursday, November 29, 2001.

Mrs. Schlegel was born in Ridgewood, N.J., a daughter of Cornelius and Catherine H. Brown. She was a volunteer with Community Hospital, Newport Richey, Fla. She lived in Florida for 20 years.

SOPKO, Charles
Charles Sopko, 83, of Loganville, Georgia, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001. He was born in Morrell, Pennsylvania in 1918, and was reared in Cleveland, Ohio. He joined the coast guard at age 21, and served 12 years, during which time he was commanding office of the Loran Station in the South Pacific for 2 years, and at Folly Beach, SC, during the 1940's. After settling in Charleston, 1961, he was a building contractor and a HVAC specialist.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Hull Sopko. Also his daughter, Stephanie Hull Winters of Temple, Georgia; his son, Stephen C. Sopko of Marietta, Georgia; and his youngest daughter, Lois Jacqueline Harrell, of Loganville, Georgia. He was also the grandfather of 8 surviving grandchildren, all of Loganville, Georgia. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1950 and was associated with the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Grayson, Georgia.
After surviving a fall and head injury, he suffered a stroke in December of 1999. He then recuperated for a period of 6 months, and lived at home with his family until his death last week.
A memorial service was held in Georgia on November 18, at 7:00 p.m. at the Grayson Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

James Leonard Corley, 78, of Summerville, SC, died Wednesday morning, November 21, 2001 at a Charleston hospital.

Mr. Corley was born July 6, 1923 in Ninety-Six, SC, a son of the late Mann D. Corley and Fannie Williams Corley. He was a retired manager for The Wilbert Vault Company and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Mr. Corley was also a member of the local V.F.W. and Summerville Lodge No. 234.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Grant Corley of Summerville, SC, 2 daughters, Lynn D. Leatherman of Crouse, NC and Barbara C. Fralix and husband Tommy G. Fralix of Summerville, SC, 3 sons, James L. Corley, Jr. of England, Wayne D. Corley and Michael G. Corley and wife Ann R. Corley of Summerville, SC, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

TAYLOR, Charles
GEORGETOWN - Charles Thomas Taylor, 71, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at a local Georgetown hospital.
Mr. Taylor was born in Erwin, N.C. on November 3, 1929, a son of the late Ruben Thomas Taylor and Margaret Blackmon Taylor. He grew up in Erwin and attended Campbell College in Buies Creek, N.C. Mr. Taylor served in the Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Georgetown in 1952 and was employed by the Woodlands Division of International Paper Company until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Taylor was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and Order of the Arrow Vigil Award. Mr. Taylor was a National Camp School Instructor and National Jamboree Shooting Sports Director. He also served in a number of other positions including Scout Leader and member of the Coastal Carolina Council Executive Board.
Mr. Taylor was a member of the Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church and had served his church as a member of the Administrative Board and of the Council on Ministries. He was a member of Winyah Lodge #40, Ancient Free Masons and a member and treasurer of the Georgetown Lion's Club. Mr. Taylor was also a member of the Pine Tree Club and Quarter Century Club at the paper mill.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Davis Taylor of Georgetown; three sons, C. Michael Taylor of Georgetown, T. Greg Taylor of Atlanta, Ga., and Chris F. Taylor of Fletcher, N.C.; a daughter, Meg T. Wilcox of Georgetown; a sister, Judy T. Wooten of Erwin, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Taylor was predeceased by his first wife, Sarah Smith Taylor and a daughter, Leslie Anne Taylor.
Funeral services will be Friday afternoon, November 23, 2001, at 3 o'clock in Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dennis J. Mardis. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening, November 22, 2001, from 6 until 8 o'clock.

She was born August 6, 1920 in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Grady Durand Perry and Meddie Altman Perry.
She was a member of Ringel Heights Baptist Church and also the Adult Sunday School Class No. 1. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her flower garden as her hobby.
Surviving are one son, Grady Durand Barnhill of Atlanta; one daughter, Betty B. Anderson of Georgetown; four brothers, Russell Perry of Johnsonville, Lionel Perry and Clinton Perry both of Hemingway and Winston Perry of Murrells Inlet; five sisters, Erma Marsh of Statesville, NC., Theora Venters of Johnsonville, Fairy Lou Gregory of Durham, NC., Velma Miller of Murrells Inlet and Shirley Ann McBurnette of Summerville; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Earl Barnhill in 2000 and a grandson, Benjie Anderson in 1999.

LAKE CITY - Mr. Marion O. Yarborough, 62, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at the Lake City hospital after an illness.
Mr. Yarborough was born in Lake City, a son of Myrtle Kirby Yarborough and the late Raleigh O. Yarborough. He was the owner of Yarborough Auto Mart of Lake City and he attended Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a Master Mason, Lake City Lodge #193 and retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Meri Hancock Yarborough of Lake City; two daughters, Cindy Middleton of Florence and Sherry West of Hartsville; one son, Marion O. Yarborough, Jr. of Charleston; his mother, Myrtle K. Yarborough of Lake City; two sisters, Betty Timmons of Kingstree and Ann Evans of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren, Dan Middleton of Greenville, Barbara Middleton of Lynchburg, Va., Clay Poston of Lake City and Croxton West of Hartsville.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2001, in the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park.

STANLEY, James
Mr. James Henry Stanley, Sr., 51, of 995 Stanley Loop in Varnville, died Tuesday evening in a local Charleston hospital.
Born Feb. 17, 1950 in Hampton County, he was the son of the late Claude Edgar Stanley, Sr. and Thelma Clifton Stanley. He had been a parts manager with the Boyles Parts Store and had attended The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Stanley of the home; 2 sons, James H. Stanley, Jr. and Gregory Kyle Stanley, both of Varnville; 2 brothers, Steve Franklin Stanley and Emmett Daniel Stanley, both of Varnville; and 2 sisters, Joan Jarrell of Varnville and Eunice Simmons of Early Branch. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Marie Stanley and a brother, Claude Edgar Stanley.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the chapel of PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton, conducted by Athley Block. Burial will follow in the Sandy Run Cemetery.

HEMINGWAY - Mrs. Jo Catherine Smith Daniel, 92, wife of the late Rudolph J. Daniel, died Wednesday in a Georgetown hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Burial will follow directed by MORRIS FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Daniel was born in Liberty, S.C., a daughter of the late Joseph Warren Smith and Mattie Kennemer Smith. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1930.
Survivors include her daughters, Martha Jo D. (Milton) Poston of Georgetown and Mary Jeanette (Ronald) Thompson of Birmingham, Ala.; her grandchildren, Aaron and Shelby Poston of Georgetown; her sister, Ruth Page of Hartwell, Ga.
