Karl Edward Henise, 69, of Goose Creek, husband of Beatrice Windham Henise, died Monday morning in a North Charleston hospital.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at 2 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.

Mr. Henise was born July 7, 1932, in Georgetown, Ohio, a son of the late Victor Court Henise and Lucile Tucker Henise.
He was a graduate of Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Ohio. He was a member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #601, American Legion Post #166 and Sandridge Hunting Club. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired salesman. He was Presbyterian.
Surviving are, his wife, Beatrice W. Henise of Goose Creek; daughters, Theresa Lynn Miles of Goose Creek, Leslie Henise Kelly of Summerville; grandchildren, Karlee M. Schattle of North Charleston, Logan Nicole Kelly and Dillon Michael Kelly of Summerville, Buster, Justin, and Susan Miles of Goose Creek; sister, Betty Jones of Sebring, Fla.

Hazel Elizabeth Shackelford, 89, of Goose Creek, widow of Claude Shackelford, died Monday morning in a North Charleston Hospital.

EDWARDS, SR., Freddie
VARNVILLE - Bishop Freddie M. Edwards, Sr., 79, of 196 East Carolina Avenue in Varnville, died early Monday morning in a local Charleston hospital after an extended illness.
Bishop Edwards was born in Effingham County, Georgia, December 29, 1921, a son of the late Glenn and Rebecca Davis Edwards. He had served as a minister with the Lowcountry District (Church of God) which included Beaufort, Colleton, Jasper and Hampton counties, for over 50 years. His most recent church was the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy, where he retired in July of this year.
Surviving are his wife, Elise Smith Edwards of Varnville; two sons, Freddie Edwards, Jr. and Morris Edwards both of Varnville; two daughters, Gail Stanley of Brays Island and Shirley Cook of Varnville; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy, with burial in the Church Cemetery directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton.
Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday until 1 p.m. when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.
SUMLER, Frank
VARNVILLE - Mr. Frank Everett Sumler, 45, of 3777 Lento Road near Varnville, died early Monday morning in a local Hampton hospital from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
Mr. Sumler was born in Beaufort County, May 17, 1956, a son of Mrs. Annie Mae Smith Johnson, and the late Otis Sumler. He was a carpenter with Unlimited Builders Company. Surviving besides his mother of Varnville are his wife, Terry Lynn Stanley Sumler of Varnville; one son, Harold "Mac" Ferguson of Varnville; two daughters, Tara F. Clifton of Brunson and Rachel S. Phillips of Varnville; one brother, Odis W. Sumler of Varnville; and one sister, Elaine S. Hughes of Summerville. There is one granddaughter, Meagan Elizabeth Clifton. Mr. Sumler was predeceased in death by his step father, Geddis Johnson. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton, with burial in the Grimes Cemetery near Grays. VEVON, Lois
Lois Leonard Vevon, 68 of James Island, SC., died Sunday, November 25, 2001 at a local hospital. Born and educated in New York City, N.Y., she was a resident of Charleston, SC., for over 35 years. A graduate of Fordham University with a Master's from Columbia University, she was beloved teacher who began her lifelong teaching career in New York. In 1960, the family moved to Bound Brook, N.J., where she continued to teach and raise her family. In 1966, she moved to Charleston, where she began teaching in the James Island School District, and then at Fort Johnson High School when it opened in 1969. She taught there for the next 25 years, as Fort Johnson High School merged with James Island High School in 1983. From 1981 until 1994, she held the dual position of teacher and Chairman of the English Department. In 1984, she accepted the additional duties of Coordinator of the Gifted and Talented program at James Island High School. One of the first teachers to teach advance placement English in Charleston County, she encouraged and inspired many students to national and state awards. A member of Delta Kappa Gamma (the international teachers sorority) the NEA, SCEA, CCEA, and the NCTE, she was beloved by many students, friends and family. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gerald N. Vevon of James Island and her five children, Gerald N. Vevon, Jr., of Alexandria, VA., Kristen Vevon of Whately, MA., Margaret Vevon Edgerton of Rutherfordton, NC., Peter Vevon of Huntsville, AL and Loren Vevon of James Island, SC and eleven grandchildren. Also survived by her brothers, Msgr. Thomas Leonard and John Leonard, and aunt, Ceal Bovino, all of New York. SSgt. Rufus Albert Driggers, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret.), 70, of Moncks Corner, husband of Georgia Stafford Kennedy Driggers, died Thursday, in a Charleston hospital.
Memorial service will be held Friday, November 30, 2001, at 3 o'clock in Tri-County Cremation Ceneter Chapel, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Bowman was a long-time employee of Cornell-Dubiler and retired from Eaton Corporation in Sanford, N.C.

FORK, S.C. - Mrs. Margaret Moore Rogers, 81, widow of Hartsell Osborn Rogers, Sr., died Sunday, November 25, 2001, at her residence after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, at the Chapel of COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Archie Prevatte and Rev. James Archie Moore, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rogers was born April 23, 1920, in Dillon County, a daughter of the late Robert S. Moore and the late Annie Atkinson Moore. Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Lake View High School and attended Winthrop College and Draughon's Business College in Columbia. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Fork Women's Club. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Fork Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.
Surviving Mrs. Rogers are, two sons, Hartsell O. Rogers, Jr., and his wife Lenetta of Fork and John Seaborn Rogers and his wife, Mellie of Edisto Beach; a daughter, Mary Anne Rogers Hayes and her husband John Charles of Clemson; five grandchildren, Nikki Rogers Bailey, and her husband John of Columbia, J.
