METTS, William
Mr. William Metts, 85, of Moon Lake, Miss., formerly of Memphis, Tenn., a retired carpenter and truck driver, died November 26, 2001, at a Helena, Ark., hospital after a battle with pneumonia.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001, graveside in Memory Hill Gardens, Memphis, Tenn. FOREST HILL EAST FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
He was a member of Twin City Church of Christ in West Helena, Ark.
Survivors include, wife of 29 years, Jessie Mae "Judy" Metts, three daughters, Bettye M. Sims and husband Larry C., Harleyville, S.C., Bonnie Bettie and husband Curtis, Marvell, Ark., Paula Walsh and husband Steve, Summerville, S.C., one step-son, Dennis Burns and wife Charlotte, Arlington, Tenn., one brother, Harold Metts, Memphis, Tenn., seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. BENSTEN, Audrey
Audrey Eugene Bensten, 73, of North Charleston, a retired supervisor of the Naval Weapon Station, died Tuesday at his residence. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Portsmith, Va., he was the son of James H. Bensten and Sadie Bensten.
A Navy veteran, he was a member of North Charleston United Methodist Church, Hamilton Lodge and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret and son Milton H. Bensten.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Bensten Baxter, of Hanahan, a brother, James L. Bensten of Norfolk, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

STEVENS, Anne K.
Rev. Anne K. Stevens, age 47, of Kennesaw, Ga. died Tuesday, November 27, 2001.
She was a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Penn. and received her Law Degree from Case Western in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a member of the Ohio, Florida and Georgia Bar. In 1953, she graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga. and was ordained as pastor at Silver Creek Presbyterian Church in Lindale, Ga. She was a member of Cherokee Presbytery. After illness forced her resignation as a pastor, she became a strong advocate for The Lupus Foundation and continued in caring ministry to many others.
She was the great granddaughter of the Rev. G.A. Sowash who served as a United Presbyterian missionary in the Sudan in the late 1890's.
She is survived by her parents, Ralph and Nancy Stevens of Kiawah Island, S.C.; brother and sister-in-law, David and Cynthia Stevens and niece, Celina Grace, all of Traverse City, Mich.; as well as many loving friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta with the Rev. Mary Beth Lawrence and Rev. Arthur Ross officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

LONE STAR, S.C. - Jesse David Shirer, 87, of 2972 McCords Ferry Rd., Lone Star, S.C. died Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at his residence.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 30 in Pine Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Don Loadholt and Pastor Bob Young officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lone Star, S.C. Pallbearers will be David Shirer, III, Mark Shirer, Scott Corcoran, Michael Smith, Derek Koucky, Michael Shirer, Jr. and Kayne Shirer.
Mr. Shirer was born in Lone Star a son of the late William Perry Shirer and Susan Felder Shirer. He was a retired lumberman and farmer. Mr. Shirer founded the Cameron Lumber Company, which he operated over 60 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church. He was a former board member of First National Bank, The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties and was a former Highway Commissioner. He also served as a former Magistrate and Constable. Mr. Shirer was a Mason and Shriner. He was a charter member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Christine Zeagler Shirer, of the home; sons and daughters: J.D. Shirer, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Martha Emily Shirer, Lone Star, Margaret S. Mims and son-in-law, Richard E. Mims, Columbia, Linda S. Koucky and son-in-law Jack Koucky, Gilbert, Mike Shirer and daughter-in-law Kristi Shirer, Lone Star; 9 grandchildren: David Shirer, III, Donna S. SUMMERVILLE - Memorial services for Jeriel Tormah Guess, Sr., 79, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, November 30, at Summerville Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 1 at 1 p.m. at the Clinton United Methodist Church near Salley, S.C.

Mr. Guess died Monday afternoon, November 26, 2001 from injuries received in an accident at his home in Summerville. He was born in 1922 in Olar, S.C., the son of the late Frank McCarley and Maida Still Guess. He graduated from Olar High School in 1939 and went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was sent from there to the Pearl Harbor Shipyard where he was elected president of the South Carolina Club. As president of the club he received a letter from Mayor Lockwood of Charleston expressing gratitude and relief upon learning his son was safe in Pearl Harbor. Mayor Lockwood had learned of his son's participation in a South Carolina Club function through a newspaper article in the Pearl Harbor Banner. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was an active member of Summerville Baptist Church where he served many years as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. In 1996 he was named Deacon Emeritus at the church. He was a Mason and a life member of Dorchester Lodge 369. He was retired from civil service and was a member of the AFL-CIO at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
Surviving are his wife of 56 yearss, Gladys Poole Guess; sons Jeriel T. Guess, Jr. and his wife Linda of San Antonio, Tex.; Michael W. Guess and his wife Lynda of Lancaster, S.C.; Dr. Frank Mitchell Guess and his wife Margo of Knoxville, Tenn., Keith A. Guess and his wife CB of Summerville, S.C.; grandchildren: Katherine Guess of Maryville, Tenn., James Olin Guess of San Antonio, Tex.; Lydia Guess of Lancaster, S.C., Meg Guess and Julia Guess of Summerville, S.C.; his sister Abbie Guess Bozard and her husband James Bozard of Gilbert, S.C.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his brothers: Robert McCarley Guess and Ramah Audrey Guess and his sisters Emma Guess Broughton and Lou Weida Guess Alleman.
